I'm always on the hunt for really good chocolate mousse and found an amazing shop in the city but little did I know there's one 5 minutes from my house! I'm so glad I found Palmer's Sweetery. Wish they were open 6 days a week. They're only open from Thursday - Sunday. Ordered 2 cups of chocolate mousse to try and the mousse was light, airy, absolutely delicious and not overly sweet either. So glad they're so close. New to the area, have been wanting to try this place for a while. Went midday on a Saturday, wasn't super busy, I didnt wait too long to order or receive my items. I got a slice of quiche w/ side salad, a chai latte, a chocolate mousse cup and a lemon poppy scone. The quiche was delish! The side salad I didn't eat though because the spinach looked questionable. Most of the salad looked like it had been in the fridge for a few days and was going bad, so I tossed it. Excited to try their other quiches. The iced chai latte was tasty without being overly sweet which I really appreciated. The scone was so good! Paired with a nice cup of tea it makes the perfect snack. Really enjoyed it too! Chocolate mousse came with a smaller container of chocolate crunchy pearl toppings. Will be eaten for dessert tonight so I'll update my review with that bit. Customer service was okay. The shop is quaint, with some seating outside and inside. They do charge 10 cents a bag, so be mindful bringing one if you plan to go crazy like I did. I didn't mind it though but good to know for future visits. Overall, really enjoyed the items I got minus the side salad, but happy i found this little bakery. read more

We went out of our way to go here, because of a Yelp Instagram post about supporting Black-owned businesses. When you walk in, the vibe is extremely friendly and welcoming. The barista knows exactly what she's talking about, and pointed us to just the right recommendation based on our cravings. I had the honey bear latte, and it was just the right amount of sweet. Found this spot just walking around drinking my coffee. Decided to go in and give it a try. I wanted the Buttermilk Buscuits, but those were gone. Decided to try the cupcake and donut bread pudding (since they do no bake bread, they instead put this twist on it). It was really good. The caramel wasn't for me, so I used some I had at home and that made it great. It was flavorful and beat to heat it up before eating. It brings out some more of that goodness. The cupcake was moist and the icing was not that sweet to me, but it complimented the cupcake perfectly. I'll be back earlier next time to get my hands on some of their other items!! read more

If you get to Maplewood early enough (read: before 2-3PM in the afternoon) be sure to visit Palmer's Bakehouse before they close. This lovely bakery reminded me of a modern version of classic bakeries I grew up with in Brooklyn where there is a large open space and a counter you order from with beautiful baked goods on display. Behind them is bustling activity as baked goods are prepared for customers. On my recent visit I picked up something I rarely see: Lemon Olive Oil cake. *Sometimes* you find this on restaurant dessert menus, but all to often they either do not have it in stock or it is not that great. If you're lucky enough to find a good example it can be a wonderful experience. A good version of this cake should be moist (a given), have a bright flavor with sweetness that is *not* overwhelming. The olive oil adds some body and smooths out the texture. I am very happy to report that Palmer's version of this cake has all that and is wonderful. You should absolutely try it. There are many bakeries in Maplewood (and they all have something nice to offer). The lemon olive oil cake is unique to Palmer's in this area and I highly recommend it! read more

I can speak only to the beautiful large quiches we ordered for an event.... But they were out of this world! A local resident suggested this bakery and I just cannot rave enough. We took out three different flavors of quiche: cheddar bacon, pesto sun-dried tomato and spinach. I have never had such delectable quiches in my life. I've been wanting to come here for the longest time after eyeballing their delicious-looking treats on Instagram and having a massive case of FOMO. This past Friday, I finally made an order when I saw they were taking pre-orders for their doughnuts for this Sunday. I ordered their combo doughnut box of cinnamon/sugar yeast and vanilla-creme filled, ube sugar cookies, and black pepper cheddar biscuits. Due to the pandemic, you order online on their website or you can order at the door. I thought you could only order online so it was cool to know you can inquire what they have available that day when you show up at the storefront. Customer service was quick and courteous. Everything was packaged well. Doughnuts were pillowy, delicious and addictive! The ube sugar cookies are very close in taste to the Starbucks ube cookies in Philippines so a huge plus in my book. They are a deep rich purple and have an ube fragrance that sends me into a happy nostalgia trip.The biscuits are delicious! I found this bakery because my favorite ice cream shop mentioned them on Instagram and, although I was hesitant to give them a try because they are an hour drive from me, I am so so happy I did. We tried the ube cookies and ube pie and the bread pudding. All were amazing. The ube cookies were the perfect amount of crisp and chewy, with a unique flavor that I would describe as an elevated sugar cookie. The ube pie was awesome. The crust was flakey, the ube pudding was not too sweet so the flavor does get lost beneath an abundance of sugar and the cream and toasted coconut topping compliments the whole thing. Huge disappointment number one. The quiche was so fluffy , I would have liked for the crust to be a little softer , and flakier. But hey beggars can't be choosers. And paired with the side salad it was a hit. The infamous Rainbow cookies , super delicious, crispy on the outside and edges but extremely soft and flavorful on the inside. Should have gotten a dozen of them but I'll put it on my Christmas list. At 2 dollars a pop they need to be larger in size. This is based upon their bakery although I've gotten coffee and other items off the menu. For my son's baptism, I bought several cupcakes from different bakeries. I'm picky about butter cream. Well, I found my answer to which one won. I'm a fan of that thick buttery cake essence with that creamy but not too sweet buttery icing ( ahem buttercream ) I find many bakeries just add so much sugar to icing it's too sweet. I loved this cupcake so much, I got a 3 tiered cake for my son's baptism, and ANOTHER 3 tiered cake for his birthday a month later . Some people may not like this since it's not the sweetest, lightest cakey cake.... but ALL my guests raved about it ( esp a French one who is very picky about pastries ) and I'm def going to get another cake in the future. read more

This place is AMAZING! I went to check out the sweets but discovered I was more hungry than anything after reading the types of sandwiches they served there. The turkey with brie and cranberry mayo was DIVINE! And of course the deserts weren't lacking either. I had the most delicious rice krispy treat afterwards (which I later learned consisted of brown butter and sea salt). Service is great. So, I have this unhealthy obsession with bakeries, and boy oh boy do I LIVE for a good scone. And until Palmer's came into my life, I was sconeless in New Jersey. In an area full of mass-produced baked goods, subpar coffee, and schlocky decor, Palmer's is a shining beacon of hope for anyone looking for baked goods with quality ingredients that somehow manage to taste even better than they look. From the confetti cookies, to the cheddar/bacon/onion biscuits, to the cakes, this place gets it. I have consistently been here multiple times a week since then opened and everything I've tried has been delicious. Also, it's funny to read the only one-star review for this very lovely bakery as the person who happened to be the customer in line behind the interaction. I can attest that maybe there was a misunderstanding with the way a certain latte should be made (as I would like to remain as diplomatic as possible about what I witnessed) but the way the staffed maintained composure, as they were being screamed at over a LATTE deserves an award. The customer isn't always right. Especially when they fail to recognize that they're unapologetically yelling at a woman who is at the point of tears over a shot of espresso. Easily one of the BEST BROWNIES I'VE EVER HAD. Stopped by here after coming to South Mountain Reservation from NYC for a hike. Not sure if it was fate or the sweet woman watering flowers outside that led me in... but man am I grateful. Got their brownie and it was so simple, moist but not too rich and the perfect blend between a chewy center and a crispy crumbly exterior. Little chocolate chips as an added touch. Would have went back to buy 5 more to take home but they sold out shortly after. Palmer's is my go-to place for the most insane banana bread ever. For those of you obsessed with banana bread, Palmer's version is the holy grail. Dark, dense, and sweet with the perfect touch of spice. The texture of the bread is like none other - moist and rich, filled with super ripe bananas. I order two loaves a week (minimum).
