    Barn Fries (medium spicy)
    Courtney P.

While visiting a friend, she brought me for lunch to one of her favorite places. We came to Barn Bird Kitchen on a Saturday afternoon. The space itself is smaller with a limited number of indoor tables and outdoor tables, but we had no problem getting a seat. The service was extremely fast and friendly. Barn Bird is known for their chicken, obviously. But I appreciated all of the different menu options as to how to enjoy it: sandwiches, salads, or straight up. So I followed my friend lead and ordered the fries loaded with chopped up chicken. I got my chicken medium-spicy, which was the perfect level of kick and I left the coleslaw on mine. My friend ordered the exact same thing but removed the coleslaw from hers. The fries were crispy and held up well to the sauce and coleslaw. There was tons of juicy chopped chicken. They definitely did not skimp on the chicken portion. This dish screamed comfort food, and was exactly what I needed that day while visiting my friend. So if you find yourself in the area, looking for a bite to eat and some delicious chicken, come check out Barn Bird.

Amazing service at a very quaint spot in the heart of Maplewood. So many cute shops and restaurants in the area. We tried the Zobo (hibiscus iced tea) which was good but had an interesting cinnamon after taste. The lemonade was also great. Their tenders were delicious and definitely appropriately named (JUMBO FOR SURE) without being obnoxious. I tried their fries and was delighted by the mix of flavors. The sauce on top deliciously tied the fries and chopped tenders beautifully. We tried their sweet potato waffle with the tenders and it was magical. For a sweet treat we shared a banana pudding which was a little small to share and didn't really give off that banana flavor in my opinion. Overall would go back just for the tenders and seasoned fries!

Small place; but packs a punch! Great quality chicken sandwich with nice heat! I ordered the original chicken sandwich, medium heat, and it was seasoned to perfection. The marinade definitely made the chicken pop! 100% will be back.

Have ordered take out from here a couple of times but finally dined in last night. Was greeted when we walked in, sat ourselves anywhere, and placed order and pp aid immediately at the register. We were brought our food not long afterwards. We ordered the chicken sandwich, 3-piece chicken tenders (both with regular seasoning), side of cole slaw, side of fries, a Mexican Coca Cola, and their fresh lemonade. Not much else to say than this was all a solid 4.5/5. If you like fried chicken-and who doesn't?-you need to visit this establishment. You won't be disappointed.

I've been want to try this spot for a while so decided to order them via grubhub for a lunch delivery. Food arrived on time and fresh. We got the barn fries, sweet potato corn bread and 3 jumbo tenders. When they said jumbo, they meant it. Delish. The also came with barn sauce. We ordered the foot with the hot seasoning and it was just right. I will say the portion size it huge. Couldn't finish in one sitting. The corn bread looked like cake. Huge in size but didn't get a picture. I would definitely order from this spot again. The food was loved by everyone who tasted it. You have new fans.

The food is still amazing almost 1 year in!!!! It may even be better. Today I ordered chicken and waffle online. I said I would get my food to go because I was not that hungry buuutttt....I did not make it out of the parking lot. Smelled so good and tasted even better! I got the honey butter I think it is, and the barn bird sauce. I still love how amazing this place looks inside. I should have sat down to enjoy the ambiance with the rest of those that dined in. Lol Go get your hot chicken!

    Chicken & Sweet Potato Waffle

Hubby & I had the juicy, perfectly seasoned boneless fried chicken & sweet potato waffle. I asked if "sweet potato (flavor)" was optional but after 1 bite, I'm SO glad it wasn't! DEELISH! We loved that you can choose your "degree of heat" for the chicken. I went spicy. Hubby chose mild. And they offer a myriad of sauces, I.e., honey butter, syrup butter, etc etc. We also appreciated that you can observe the food prep. We love a clean kitchen with a crew on open display. #reassuring So glad we found this small, quaint, clean, humble spot with great food and service. Looking forward to returning!

Found this new spot in Maplewood for early lunch and I'm glad we tried it before the rush came in. They specialize in fried chicken with different spice levels to choose from so we got a couple dishes and some sides. The signature sando comes with 2 jumbo tenders, slaw, pickles, & Barn Bird sauce, on a brioche bun and I chose medium spicy. 10/10 HUGE JUICY CRUNCHY chicken sandwich. We also tried an order of 3 tenders (you can choose 3, 6, 12, 24 tenders) and they come with sliced bread and pickle chips. Next time I think I'll choose hot spice lvl. I kept switching between using a fork and knife and just caveman grabbing them with my fingers, these were fantastic as well. The yaji fries were fine, they're seasoned fries but not too salty. And the house slaw had dill which I LOVE but if you're a dill-hater then you might not be into this. The half & half iced tea was also great, a little sweet to complement that mild peppery heat. The place is nicely decorated, clean, tidy bathroom, and polite service. It also got packed by the end of our meal so we got luckyyyyy. I love when that happens. Good luck finding parking during the weekend, I had to park a couple blocks away.

Everything looked so delicious! We wanted to dine in and followed the signs to the seating area which was also bustling. We were seated across from each other at a long communal table, which is fine, but our neighbors seemed offput by having to move their coats and bags off the chairs. We were sitting so tightly together that I could barely shrug my jacket off without elbowing my neighbors. We waited and looked around for about 10 minutes. When no server approached us, we realized we needed to get up and order at the back counter. This was not made clear. Orange Juice for me (fresh squeezed - $12), iced coffee for him, the Spreads and Breads, and the Schnitzel Sandwich. We also split a small cinnamon bun. Our bill was nearly $80. Yowza. I will say that everything we ordered was good. We had things to do so we essentially ate and left. We were in and out in under 45 minutes. This is definitely a locals kind of place. We'll opt to grab-and-go if we are in the area again.

First off: Service. I told the employee that this was my first time there, and they were more-than-happy to help me make a decision for my order. Patient and walked me through. Second: The Food. Let's get into it. 1) Cassava Latte ($7.50) - I was so pleasantly suprised at this drink; described as "(i)nspired by the Filipino dessert cake, made with condensed milk and coconut." The first sip, and I was intrigued! It was perfectly sweet, and the perfect mix of that coconut-dessert taste that cassava typically delivers! It tasted genuine, if that's possible. 2) Sinigang Croquette ($5.00) - This was interesting. Described as "Pork and Gabi (taro) shaped into a patty, rolled in Japanese bread crumbs, and deep fried. Served with our in-house sawsawan (dipping sauce)", it hit all the right notes. To be honest? $5.00 for 1 felt a bit steep. I'd pay $7.50 for two, though! 3) Boy Bawang Shio Pan ($7.50) - This was the most curious of all my purchases. Described as an "(i)n-house salt bread rolled in garlic and corn crumbs, filled with roasted garlic butter, topped with corn cheese whip. Inspired by the popular Filipino snack: Boy Bawang. THIS ITEM I SING ITS PRAISES. I am an absolute lover of the Boy Bawang Garlic Flavor Corn Snack --- much more pungent than anything Corn Nuts could ever offer. This Shio Pan absolutely delivered with its roasted garlic flavor! And as soon as you take a few bites ---- you get hit with that roasted garlic butter --- and let me tell you, they are not shy about their filling! Absolute master class --- but it's only for a limited run. You should definitely try! Third: Ambiance - The Cafe is quaint --- and has a seating area that could maybe fit between 18-24 people? It's just along the side of the business, but I managed to get a table for myself. Ayala, you did not disappoint! Can't wait to try your Sisig Flatbread for the next round!

I had the sisig flatbread and the pork croquette. The sisig flatbread had very unique and complex flavors. I thought it was very creative. The croquette was fresh and tasty, but it was truly the sauce that came with it that was the star of the show. It bold and vinegary and tasted great with the sisig flat bread as well. I tried a bit of my friend's pandan waffle and it was quite tasty! I could really taste the pandan. Now the bad. The ube latte was mediocre. I asked for mine with matcha, but I really couldn't even taste the matcha. I think next time I might try their other drinks to see if there is a difference. However, I was really expecting better. Overall: I'd say the food is better than the drinks, which is a bit of a disappointment because I was hoping for both to be out of this world. The service was good and the staff was very kind. I also enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant as well.

Menu didn't really have a "theme" so lots of options across from traditional breakfast items to Colombian dishes like calentado. Friendly staff which is always a plus. We ordered the grilled chicken wrap and what sounded like a meat lovers omelette. The wrap came with fries and was simple, what I was looking for. Maybe would've been better with a chipotle mayo or something. The omelette was huge, served with toast and home fries but a little greasy. Not sure it would be the first place in mind to return to but not a terrible option to recommend. They had some patrons there enjoying the cafe vibes, drinking coffee and chatting so that was nice. Not a lot of traffic if you're looking for a quiet spot to meet with a friend or even do some work.
