My partner and I always make sure to stop at Wine List whenever we visit the Summit area. Located along the main street, Wine List is in a most convenient spot and it doesn't hurt that the space is vast, but not overcrowded with alcohol displays. There is a great variety of items to choose from, including hard ciders. On our last visit, we looked for a specific red wine and we were helped immediately with finding a substitute since they didn't have it in stock. We normally deal with the same staff member, who is friendly and goes above and beyond to make sure you leave with the perfect product. My recent stop into the wine list was for AMAZING Gigi's cupcakes. For those of you who have never heard of them, we'll, they are delicious. There are regular and gluten free options. For gf, you can pick a yellow or chocolate cake and then frost with any of their available frostings!! Now, as for the wine shop...it has many great options with friendly and helpful staff. Foe me, I find it to be on the pricier side, but then again, rent in the center of town isn't cheap. read more

This is a rather large wine store right on Springfield Ave, and I was pleasantly surprised at their stock in different kinds of wine, which is varied and interesting. The prices on moderately-priced bottles are competitive, and they were good too on the more expensive things. The man working the floor was knowledgeable about some Italian wines from the Veneto that I was asking about, and he was friendly, chatty, and obviously had a passion for wine. Next time I'm in town I'll stop by again and pick up a bottle! read more

Love this place. If I can not find a wine that I'm looking for, I never leaving empty handed. This is always plenty of wines to look for and the staff is always helpful. This store is so pretty and soothing. It's almost like the great wines and beers it sells. The staff is so knowledgable. I've been coming here since I moved to Summit three years ago, and I've never had a bad bottle of wine. I tell them what I like -- a light red and a sweet Riesling -- and they pick out exactly what I like at the prices I like too. I've always bought wine here for my hostess friends too. And they always want to know where I got it. My husband is happy with the Belgian beer selection here, but he wishes they had more Caribbean beers, like Presidente. This little wine shop is one of Summit's best kept secrets. I think people think it's too expensive from the posh look of it. It's not. It's the perfect beer and wine store. Big variety. FULL DISCLOSURE: I have only once purchased wine from this store. However, I LOVE picking up a sandwich at lunchtime here. They have a smallish selection but there's still a good variety to choose from. My favorite is a vegetable sandwich - which they cut in half for me, toast one half and I take the other for lunch the next day. Which of course makes it very affordable. read more

This is a really cute wine store. I love the layout. They use the space really well. And the racks on the wall are large and deep. They also sell cheese and there are round tables set up in the front of the store. It has the makings of a very charming wine boutique. So why only two stars?? The prices are not right, Bob. There are plenty of other wine shops in northern NJ where you can get better deals. The fiancée and I walked around for a good 15-20 minutes and considered many different bottles but nothing seemed original enough to spend the money. It's rare when we'll walk out of a wine store without a purchase. Today, that's what we did. I also got the feeling that the guys working the floor are helpful. Someone came up and told us about their yellow tag specials (30% off any bottle with a yellow tag). He seemed quite available if we had any questions, though we did not. If you're in a pinch and are passing by on your way to a party, you can easily find something good here. The scotch here is also overpriced. read more

Super cool wine store in downtown Summit. The place is huge and has a ridiculously large selection. Major props to them for being the first place I've found this summer to carry Sam Adams Octoberfest. Good selection and friendly staff but the prices keep me from rating this place any higher. It's definitely a good place you can run to if you're eating at a BYOB in Summit. I'm the furthest thing from a wine aficionado but the selection was excellent. Can't beat that. read more

This is a big store right in the heart of downtown Summit. I have done both an in-store wine tasting as well as ordered wines for a client appreciation event. Everyone is SO knowledgeable and professional in this place. While their prices aren't the absolute best, you will not find a more responsive GM in Neil who made my event purchases as smooth as can be. We will seek out their expertise for future events and my boyfriend and I will continue to go to wine tastings there with Ivan. read more

I went in before picking up the wife to get an idea as to which wine I should use for sangria. I wish I got the name of the gentleman who helped me, but he was probably one of the managers or the owner. He steered me directly towards a wine that he told me he uses for his own sangria mixture. It was a very nicely priced wine, and I was very happily surprised that I wasn't pointed towards something more expensive. He then took the time to go over some ideas for what else to add, and I must say, I never had such a great experience. I highly recommend checking this place out. Have been in the Wine List before looking for some special cocktail ingredients. Have purchased things there and found them to be helpful. However, I recently bought a Groupon from them and was extremely disappointed in what I received. Allegedly I bought $90 of preselected wine for $45. When I redeemed my Groupon I received 6 bottles of inferior to acceptable wine.The first wine we opened, an Italian pinot grigio, was like a jug wine and I decided to price it on-line ($6). After pricing the other bottles I came up with $45 for all 6 at most. I brought the wine back to the store thinking there must have been a mistake and showed him the printouts from my on-line seaches. The guy there said that you just don't know where the stores on-line are located. I pointed out that one of them was The Wine Library, a big competitor of his down the street. One of the bottles I got was from a closed south Jersey restaurant that had its own label for its 'inexpensive' house wine. No doubt The Wine List bought a lot of these bottles for a buck or two each. Now it is for sale in their store for almost $15. Looks like the Groupon thing was a good way to dump their overpriced inferior wines. He offered nothing to appease the customer, me, other that stating that their prices on those wines were as advertised. As though that would encourage me to come back. Evidently they have the worst prices on these preselected wines that I could find. No need to return. Too many other wine stores to choose from. BTW, the second bottle opened was so poor that my wife poured it down the drain. Can't remember that ever happening in our house before! read more

I recently went into Wine List to see if they would honor an expired gift certificate. I approached him with a positive attitude to see if he would help me out. He proceeded to tell me it was expired and was still hoping he would help. As the conversation went on he got very rude and told me that because I had an attitude he would not honor. I feel extremely disrespected. It's upsetting that a local, small business would treat a Summit town resident like that. I would not recommend this wine shop to anyone as they run a poor business in there. read more
