I love this bottle king store. It is less than 5 minutes from my job, which is a plus. They have an awesome selection of craft beers as well. Whenever I come here, I am able to stock up not only on great New Jersey craft beers, but all states craft beers. The shelves are never empty. They also have a huge selection of wines as well. Plenty of parking as this location has its own parking lot. Overall, when you need some alcohol, this is a great location to come visit. read more

I've been going to Bottle King for years because they were local. Spend about 3 thousand plus a year easily. I went in the other day because I needed some empty wine/liquor boxes. They told me I couldn't have any empty boxes. I needed to buy more than 6 bottles to get a box. I just needed 2-3 boxes and they told me no. I walked out for the last time. I went to Wegmans and they told me I could have as many boxes as I wanted, no problem. I will never shop at Bottle King again. Happy to drive a little more for better customer service. read more

Fraud cashier/manager. I bought two items today and the cashier (a manager), decided to ring me up, after scanning both items, he attended another cashier who was having issues. He noticed I was in a hurry, decided to quickly gun one of my items he had already infrared scanned. When the total was presented, I pointed out what he did. He was caught red handed and I could see his dismay that his trick didn't work. Removed and credited my transaction. At this point no words, no apologies offered. I can't trust this store management. Rude staff. Maybe greet your customers when they come to your register and then thank them for shopping there. I had better training when I worked as a cashier at a supermarket in high school. Also dust your bottles, the place is a mess. Three stars because the selection and prices are good. Cashiers have been consistent in their disinterested attitude and general rudeness for years: I have never once been greeted with as much as a "Hi" from a cashier at Bottle King nor received any sort of "thank you". Great prices from beer to wine! A little smaller than other BK's I have been to but overall same layout. The liquor seems about on par with other stores but the wine is a little less and the beers are priced much cheaper than a local liquor store. Staff, for the most part, is helpful. Checking out is a breeze. They do not have a deli like the Morris Plains one and do have a small cheese selection. I avoid local liquor stores in favor of this place when I pick up wine or beer. The Bottle King location in Chatham, NJ is my favorite liquor stores in the area. I understand that it might be a little smaller than some of the other Bottle Kings in the area but the selection is solid and the customer service is excellent. Matt, the current manager of the store is present and available on the floor interacting with his staff and customers. The staff offers help but are far from pushy. The staff is knowledgeable and willing to provide recommendations as needed. For example, Dan is very helpful when it comes to finding the right wine to fit your evening. One of the most notable things about this location is that the prices are always fair. There are many stores that are charging well above retail for whiskey, particularly rye and bourbon, and crafts beers. Bottle King in Chatham is not one of them. I now exclusively buy whiskey that they carry at this store unless the brand is currently not available there. If you are looking for great prices on Blanton's, Eagle Rare, or EH Taylor, you will find no better in the area for these basic mainstays of sipping whiskeys. In addition, they regularly get in more limited bottlings and they will be on the shelf or in the glass case as well. Recently they had EH Taylor Barrel Proof and 15 Year Whistlepig at great prices! I would recommend that you try out this store! I bet you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of selection but especially the service! read more

I agree with other reviews, a basic beer and booze place with good prices. The wine is vast but no one there knows anything about wine. I took a star away because they do not sell an essential item, pilsner urquell. The wine knowledge is just not there. Often when waiting in line it takes forever to check out. read more

Customer service at this location is great! I frequent this bottle king and I am always satisfied when I leave. The clerks are very nice and helpful. I am not a big drinker, but when I am looking for something for friends/family I ask for help and everytime the outcome has been great. The last two times that I have been to this location, the cashiers have been decidedly disinterested in actually processing a sale. In fact, just a few minutes ago, I left without making a purchase after one of the cashier's decided to turn the light off at the register despite the fact that I was already standing there on line. When I asked if this was meant for her to close after she rung up my sale, she said no and that I should go to another line. Having already stood on a different line for over 10 minutes and having moved to this other line since it was moving quickly, I told the cashier that they had lost my business. Wine selection is much broader that average, maybe not exceptionally deep in any particular category - some interesting choices from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, etc - novices would be challenged to identify them since only the wine manager has a knowledgeable palate. Before I go into why I'm giving this a 1 star review, I should note that I've bought beer here plenty of times without trouble. This past time, however, is the sole reason why I will never buy at Bottle King again. I was purchasing 12 cans for an upcoming Jets tailgate. While the cashier asked to see my ID (I'm 22), he demanded to see my brother's as well (he's still in high school and came along for the ride). I understand that they want to avoid selling to minors, but my understanding of the law is as long as I am the one buying, I am the one liable for where that beer lands up. Then the cashier told me that my brother couldn't be in the store, although he's been in there plenty of times before with my father. So basically, I was being profiled because I'm (relatively) young and he assumed that I was buying for my brother. It also seemed to me that the cashier was trying to show-off in front of his co-workers and I was thoroughly insulted and embarrassed by the experience. They are known for being ID sticklers, but there's a difference between being prudent and being overzealous and rude. I have no problems with taking my business elsewhere. read more

While living in Jersey a year ago, I frequented the Bottle King in Morris Plains. Low prices and decent selection were two reasons why I was excited to see there was another Bottle King close to my new apartment in Chatham. However, my visit was disappointing. First of all the selection of beers was mediocre, although I did find two beers that I enjoyed a few weeks prior. I picked up 2 six packs and headed to the register. I handed the cashier my Pennsylvania D.L. and he requested to see alternative ID. Ok, makes sense, I'm out of state, I've had this happen before. So I handed him my college ID, with my picture and my name clearly printed. Apparently that wasn't sufficient. If you have out-of-state ID, in order to purchase anything at Bottle King, you need to have 2 sources of picture ID with birth dates on both. WTF? It's not even this bad at the airport! He suggested I bring my passport next time. LOL to buy a couple six packs? Get real! I would like to note that the cashier was friendly, polite, and apologetic. However, I definitely will not be going back to the Chatham Bottle King. Next thing you know I'll have to drag a notary there! read more

some nice prices with on-sale liquors, especially their bourbon. not the largest selection of liquors and wines, but good enough. the craft beer selection is very lackluster, though. almost all of the fridge space is devoted to macro. plenty of better stores in the area. read more
