Since we were in Madison, my wife and I decided to stop in at Prospect Tavern for a drink. it was a beautiful day, so we decided to sit on the outdoor patio. The drinks were well made and our server was friendly. We also ordered the pretzel appetizer which I wouldn't order again. The pretzels were mildly warm and not very tasty. The inside bar is very nice and I could picture it being a cozy spot on a cold day. All in all, a nice place for a drink. read more

Great drinks, and the best outdoor seating space in the area. We like to go for a late lunch to guarantee ourselves a table in the sun! This time, we got the whisky blackberry lemonade, and the cucumber gin cooler. Both were very refreshing for the oncoming beautiful weather. (Be warned, they are strong!) The coconut shrimp appetizer is our favorite, this time we got the calamari as well. Everything felt fresh, light and fluffy! A table nearby got some pizzas which looked great as well, and we will need to try next time. Emily was great, and provided excellent service. We will be coming back! read more

An absolutely unforgettable dining experience!! We were a pretty large reservation(yes, a group reservation they accepted) at 14 heads, however, we were seated immediately upon arrival. It was not crowded at all. The night started a little after 7pm with a fun story from our server about the last large party he served. He expressed frustration with how everyone in the group would just not stop swapping seats on purpose! Those rascals really had it out for him for some reason . Oh well! They must just hate him . So, after some discussion with the server we decided the easiest way to keep track of the bill would be to split the party into two checks, simply based on the two adjacent tables we were seated at. A swift, foolproof solution thought of by none other than our own server! Elegant and simple! Anyway, are you often irritated by servers asking you ridiculous, unfounded questions such as, "what would you like to order?" Perhaps they even endulge in such egregious acts as poisoning your ear with a nasty "hello!"or even their name . No need to worry about that here! I got to order my food and drink with my preferred method - the server respectfully snuck up on me and used a combination of his shadow and natural odor to quietly get my attention. How polite! After taking all our orders, we got 2/3 of the apps for our group in 20 minutes. Then it took another hour for a final app to come out. Hooray! One artichoke dip for 14 people! The party has started! Clearly we would have our hands full for a while. Two of our group members had to leave on a big road trip tonight, and unfortunately needed to depart a little early. Luckily, our clairvoyant server was already prepared! He knew in advance, through his superior premonition, that they would not have time to eat. He masterfully witheld sending everyone's entree order to the kitchen for approximately 100 minutes post-ordering, therefore allowing easy cancellation of any now unnecessary entrees. Our small minds were confused at the time. The remaining 12 of us asked, "are the entrees going to be on their way out soon?" "What? No!" He responds, "artichoke dip first, that's how it works" How naive we were, for we did not know how it worked. Around two hours post-ordering, our entrees start to trickle in. First entree: "Oops! Wrong table! Won't happen again" Second entree: "Oops! Wrong table! Won't happen again" Third entree: "Oops! Wrong table! Won't happen again " By the twelfth entree, it had become apparent what happened. We must've all accidentally switched seats to decieve our server and not realized . After shuffling our plates around in shame due to the crime we all committed, we finally (sort of) enjoyed our food . Then the checks arrived. The food was split 50/50 between the two with no apparent organization/reason to our puny little brains . We stupidly marked our inferior understanding of who ate which food on the receipts, then returned them for professional review. "Uh, are you sure?" Our professional sustenance delivery coordinator asked us. Of course we are not! We must have forgotten what we ate minutes ago! Please forgive us, master "Master? Me? No. Carol is the head chief of this great food-based establishment. And your ignorance has angered her!" Our server announces, then bravely hides in the back room to send out Carol herself. This was it. Our moment to learn from the greatest there is. In her infinite wisdom, she revealed to us the error of our ways. We had disrespected the house of Carol(shame on us) by over staying our welcome on what must have been their busiest night of the year. We very selfishly waited 2 hours to receive our food, and in doing so, we had stolen the opportunity from the hundreds of hungry customers waiting outside .(Restaurant was empty, but I know Carol wouldn't lie to us, I trust her) If you read this much of my experience, you are probably soaked with the sarcasm dripping off of it. If somehow you didn't sense the sarcasm, then you were probably our server tonight. Thank you for the unforgettable time, Carol! And to your nepotism hire who clearly doesn't want to work there, as well! All the best! read more

We came here because it was near Drew University. First time here. Lots of good food & drink offerings. Definitely has many of the features of an Irish bar. Everything we had was good. The corned beef Reuben was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. No complaints here. Vast improvement from previous review. When I go for lunch - their buffalo chicken (breaded) wrap is very good. Love that it's overstuffed with all ingredients. Sorry, but this was a disappointing end to a family gathering for an event at Drew University. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed from the start, perhaps he was new, not sure. Two members of our party arrived about 15 minutes after we had all received our drinks, and they were never asked for a drink order! Some of our party had to leave before their food was served, as it was over an hour from when we were seated, and we were informed that the food orders just now went in to the kitchen. Food was "average" but some was not served as ordered (Burger ordered Medium was Very well done, Rancho burger came without the Rancho Salsa on it, etc). Originally we asked to have our orders split into three checks, but the waiter informed us that the management has a policy of no more than TWO checks per large group, so we settled for two checks - one for each table of our two-table party. When the bills arrived, they were all mixed up - a mish-mosh of everyone's orders all over two checks. The excuse given for this was "well you sat here for 2 1/2 hours", but OF COURSE we did, because it took TWO HOURS for our food to be served! We didn't have high expectations. Even though we were coming at 4:30PM, we made a reservation because it is a large party. Almost none of the tables around us were taken. We asked for 2 bills from the get go because some people have to leave earlier - waiter said "no". We asked for more chairs - waiter said "no" then the hostess jumped in to say they NEED those chairs for people coming in right now (they didn't). We stayed for 2 hours, ordering multiples drinks and some food. The hostess said "we need this table back", we asked "no problem. when?", she said "right now!" Stopped by on a Friday night with a friend to grab a few beers and a bite to eat. It wasn't too crowded, and we didn't have a problem finding seats at the bar. It's a rather large bar, too, with plenty of seats. Not a huge craft beer selection, but still a decent variety to choose from. We started with the cheese and jalapeño hummus, which was actually very tasty! It's more filling than it looks. For my meal, I went with a pasta with vodka sauce (it wasn't on the menu, I don't think, but there was a pasta dish and they let me change a few things on it). The pasta was pretty good, but a little less creamy than what I'd expect from a vodka sauce. My friend really enjoyed her sandwich and fries. Overall, service was pretty good. They had a couple people handling the bar so for the most part if we needed something, someone was there. DINERS BEWARE: After being served the pulled pork sandwich, we discovered a strawberry-sized rock/bone in the meat. The waiter was grateful that we called this to his attention, but the only corrective action offered was to inform the kitchen. Diners need to be aware that it was evidently not unusual. When eating, diners should be warned to check the pulled pork for non-meat before biting in and possibly cracking a tooth. read more

You know in these troubled times with the weight of the Covid 19 Virus hitting and the uncertainty of the future weighing heavily against peoples livelihoods. The balance of their desperation to earn a living, it's a very very delicate precarious balance. My wife and I have pretty much locked down tight since mid March and prior to the pandemic, I would describe our weekend travels were directed not by needs, not so much by curiosity, but driven by our quest to fulfill a desired taste. Since our weekends are rarely, if ever spent apart for almost 32 years, we have covered all genres of foods and all types of establishments serving those foods. Now I can and have rant for a page about a simple Texas wiener, or have on occasion barely mentioned a $45 steak. We have been impressed in local dives and turned off by trending Nuevo nonsense and pretentious attitude.You see it all boils down to a couple of basic ingredients. First and foremost, it's all about the attitude and the effort a particular establishment puts forth. Now I mean a Genuine effort and appreciation of the diner(s) and their choice to visit and have a meal. Second and rightly as important is the desire to please and to improve. An excellent example comes to mind for us and that would be the Grasshopper on RT. 23 in Newfoundland. Great food yes, plenty of food yes, but everyone I cross paths with is genuinely happy We are there. The Prospect Tavern I have some issues with (and will address them shortly) I must admit, everyone was very nice. The food would have been great except everything we ordered, and received was tepid. We ordered for our appetizer, potato skins. We received 4 halves packed with cheese and bacon and dressed with chives and whipped sour cream on the side. Ample portion however, contained very little potato flesh mostly bacon and melted cheese. Now it would have been great, and I've had this dish often enough to recognize it came off the line and sat waiting to be delivered. The cheese color and consistency in addition to the well, less than warm presentation, tells me it sat, and not under a heat lamp. I had what could have been, should have been, a great cheese steak with onions and my favorite addition to anything beef.... cherry peppers. Again, I lost out to poor serving time. One note, if someone orders an item with sliced cherry peppers one would think " person must love the heat and flavor" so wouldn't you put more on than less under the assumption you could always remove some?? Or how about this, a few on the side! What could have what should have and I got the dirty end of the stick again. Leads than hot food. My wife ordered a salad that should have been more than what was presented. She ordered a Mediterranean salad with shrimp. Well the plate came with 7 fairly large shrimp, a little undercooked at best, no kalamata olives and blue cheese not feta. Not such a hit with my wife, and positively not inexpensive. Overall experience was not great. Place was nice enough, kinda cozy actually with a fireplace. There is minimal parking on site however ample parking in the Stop and Shop lot close by. and as aforementioned, the restaurant employees a nice staff. One redeeming factor may be my food was ignored and left too long possibly due to arriving early and maybe, just maybe, my wait person who was actually very nice, was performing his "other duties" prior to the day going full blast. I'm going to run with that theory because we want to like this place for what it is. A nice spot in a nice area. ***Note to the reader**** We find so many times we walk away not really satisfied. Not satisfied with our value and or food. Why does a simple lunch cost so much?? I don't mind the dollars so much if we leave happy and eager to discuss our experience on the drive home. We went here to expand our range and try something new, but once again, not really happy or satisfied, we are just trying to do our part to forward a business in this crazy time. Just went there for the first time and was harassed by another customer at the bar. The bartenders oversaw and never told the rude customer to relax or back off. They were not in control of their own bar and i felt very uncomfortable. They even kept giving this customer drinks after trying to start a agreement with me and my friends. Definitely will not be going back if these are the type of people they allowed there and don't stand up for other customers especially first time customers. When he finally appeared we asked for a kids menu and he just inaudibly and quickly told us what the options were. No prices. No menu. It came off as if he couldn't be bothered. Granted I saw this guy tending bar (to two patrons) on the way out so he was doing other stuff but literally only three tables in use. I had a buffalo chicken wrap. It retained a lot of moisture and because of that completely fell apart. My wife had a Cajun chicken sandwich. It was prepared well. Not too dry or tough per her description. Nothing to write home about. My son had the outrageously priced buttered pasta. A plate full of poorly drained noodles. I mean literally water pooled on the plate. This place has been around ten years and we have stopped by several times. Not sure why I never wrote a review. Well here I go...a great menu with plenty of choices for everyone including kids. Lots of soups, salads, burgers and specials. So far I have tried burgers, French dip (their version), chicken pot pie and pot roast. All have been good but I think the pot pie was the best because of its novelty. Henry our server is always on top of everything. Homey, warm and charming location for a casual dinner.
