Overall: I was really surprised with how good this hotel restaurant was, usually not someone who steps into one of these, but this place has definitely changed my mind. Food: The portion sizes here are very generous, I kind of regretted ordering an appetizer after seeing how large the pot pie was. On the flip side, the food was great so I ate the entire thing. Great food and enough to have your fill and bring some back home for leftovers. Service: The service was standard, slightly longer wait time but that may have been due to an event happening at the same time. Ambiance: Very well-decorated interior. You can read up on it on the menu, almost all elements inside have some kind of history to it. For a hotel lobby restaurant, it wasn't too bad. The atmosphere allows you escape from the generic hotel lobby and enter a traditional pub feel. The staff was fantastic and they knew so many people by first name since there's a lot of hotel guests here each night. For my dinner, I went with the fish and chips, and I enjoyed it. The food arrived incredibly fast and it was all correct. The portions were pretty good for the price, but this is New Jersey and in a hotel. Stopped in after errands and we do like this place (not our first time) Had the Rueben, was good. Not too big. Lacking some seasoning. (Last time i was here I ordered the guiness burger and is so much more worth it). I had a cherry bomb old fashioned, was a good amount and not too sweet. I love all the options for old fashioned and the build your own. The atmosphere is nice. The hotel had a Con going on and the restaurant was busier than usual but service was still good. I've eaten here quite a few times as I stay at the hotel it's located in pretty often. I've treated both bar and restaurant seating. I usually just get the Caesar salad and French onion soup. The food menu is pretty limited, so I wouldn't come here for dinner if you're not staying at the hotel, but it makes a very cozy bar if you're looking for pub to have drinks with friends. There's just something about baked potato soup. It was delicious!!! Every bite had bacon and potato. It was a perfect balance of flavor and ingredients. For my entree I had a Turkey burger. It had excellent flavor! The burger came with avocado, Gouda cheese, lettuce, tomato and a horseradish aioli. It was yummy! There was a slight kick, but it wasn't overwhelming. It came with a choice of fries, house made chips or salad. I opted for fries. They were just okay. They needed some type of seasoning. However they were nice and crispy! I also ordered a beer which was nice and cold. For everything including tax and tip it was under $30! Prices are very reasonable. Service was good. On the recommendation of the front desk staff, I tried this place out - I'm not typically a fan of hotel restaurants. I opted for a Guinness (after all, I was in an Irish Pub!) and the chicken pot pie. The puff pastry and the flavor of the filling were both VERY good! I overheard the table next to me talking among themselves about how good the braised ribs were. My only downside was the noise level. Having been constantly reminded to go to this restaurant for my week stay at the Marriott at Hanover, my experience ultimately came to mediocre. The restaurant dishes are decent, but for the price definitely could splurge across the street at seasons 52 or capital Grille. The drinks were ultimately great but yet again you're paying hotel prices. The only pro to come into this restaurant is you get a pretty good burger and desserts were really the only thing that I would go there. The first dish that I had was the short rib. Was great, but the short rib was slightly dry. The second dish was their cheeseburger again the burger itself was dry, and if it wasn't for additional condiments, I would've returned it the desserts that I did enjoy where the crème brûlée cheesecake and The bread pudding that was so tasty and enjoyable. The service has a whole was great. Everybody was friendly, and the employees were ready to greet you. I give this place three stars for its convenience, ambience and desserts. Other than that the entrées are a little to be wanted. Highly recommend more flavoring and patience when cooking the meats because they were definitely overcooked at too much of a high heat. Wouldn't go out of my way to come here if you're not staying here. Only good for short last minute dinner plans if you happen to not want to leave the hotel. read more

When you are stopping in Whippany, you gotta try The Auld Shebeen. The service is excellent. Our waitress was working the left side of the restaurant and running the bar at the same time. When she couldn't get to her tables (when the bar was busy), the staff members and manager checked in on us and took the dirty plates. Excellent service!!! Super nice staff. Now to the food... the french onion soup is a MUST!!! I loved it, and it was actually quite filling. For apps, we ordered the irish nachos and pork belly strips. The irish nachos were delicious. I wasn't a fan of the beef hash, but thats just because of my preference. The pork belly strips were quite rich tasting like super thick bacon. Our waitress noticed we were here for the Wentworth Con, and she wished us a great time. Please give The Auld Shebeen a chance. I had been here many years ago. I remember a great vibe in this place. The décor and the separate spaces are conducive to sharing smaller group gatherings. We showed up and immediately sat at the bar. There were a few choices in IPA's. I went for a nice hazy fruity choice. Then we ordered our meal. Soup was a good choice given the yucky weather. We got French Onion Soup and seafood soup. Both were delectable. The broth was just right with a ton on Gruyère cheese. We then got a keto-ish spin on Fish and chips by eliminating the chips and substituted with Caesar salad. My better half had a crab cake sandwich. Wow! It was relatively quiet here on a Saturday night which is how my mom and I ended up here while staying in town overnight. Kind of an interesting setup, it's inside the Marriott, but has its own distinct interior with a real Irish pub feel. Very dim lighting though. I ordered the Rigatoni Vodka and my mom got the Crab Cake Sandwich. They came out very fast, which was nice, but my pasta also seemed like it had been overcooked or sitting in sauce for a while, which makes me think the food had been made a while in advance. Otherwise my pasta was really good though. The sauce was really tasty and just rich enough for my liking. Portion was satisfying but not so big that it was hard to finish. Also had a bite of the crab cake sandwich and from what I could tell from just a taste, this was really good! The crab cake tasted fresh and the sauce went well with it. The portion size on this was a bit bigger (which is how I ended up getting a taste) - the crab cake itself was huge, plus it comes with a side salad or fries. We shared Chocolate Cream Pie for dessert which delightful. It was a plain/vanilla cream base (almost like a cheesecake) with a brownie-like crust, chocolate cream pockets, and chocolate shavings, which was different than what we were expecting but I thought it was a lot more interesting than just a straight chocolate filling. Went here with my coworkers on a holiday luncheon. The atmosphere is a combination of old Irish pub (as someone noted here, shipped over from the Old Country) and hotel. We got a back room which was rather quieter and more Irish than other parts of the establishment. Service was friendly and we weren't waiting too long for our food. Drinks: Expensive. I had one beer, but everything on the printed list was $7/16 oz or $10/10 oz (specialty). Did not ask what the prices of standard Smithwicks/Harp/Guinness are, but they're not listed. I could get this same beer for less in Morristown. Morristown, for crying out loud. Food: One word: good. Two words: and generous. I had the... something fake-named Irish chicken sandwich, but it came with supposed Irish cheddar and Irish bacon. Added avocado. The portion was generous, the quality was good, I really like their steak fries (they're more like breaded, fried wedges than fries. super potatoey). Table comes with two types of mustard, so I mixed the British hot mustard in with the regular as a fry sauce. I was a little jealous of the people who ordered the Irish dip (I mean, it wasn't called French Dip, so whatever it was actually called) and got a nice big cup of jus for dipping. By far the biggest jus cup I've seen at a resturant. Verdict: You wouldn't know it's here if you're driving by on Route 10 looking for a restaurant, but it's really not a bad choice. This is the restaurant I the lobby of the Marriott hotel in Hanover. What does a hotel restaurant mean? Well, generally overpriced food, but a few gems on the menu. I got the chicken pot pie, which had a nice flaky crust, though the sauce was just a little too thick for my liking. Treating to think of the right word to describe the decor of this place. It kind of felt like I was in an old pub in Ireland with dark wood everywhere that looked like it had been there for 100 years. I think the bartender actually mentioned that a lot of the carpentry was done using materials that came from Ireland. The beer section is decent- obviously Guinness since you're in an Irish pub, but also a number of local beers. I'm not sure if this restaurant is worth a special drive here, but if you're staying at the Marriott, definitely worth taking a look. read more

I appreciate they left the dressing on the side without me asking- however I wasn't a huge fan of the taste. Salmon was a little salty. Average salad. I look forward to trying their wings and some of their dinner entrees. Night 2 I ordered the blackened ahi dinner entree and the hummus appetizer. Both were great! The Ahi platter is topped with a very spicy sauce, pineapple and dressed with arugula. It's not a large portion, so you will want more food if you're hungry- $20. We stayed at the Marriott for my daughter's lacrosse tournament and we were pleasantly surprised by this Irish pub here in the hotel. I've stayed at many Marriotts and this has to be one of the best hotel bar/restaurants they have. Very charming and inviting decor and the food and service were excellent. First night I had the fish and chips and they were outstanding. My wife and daughter had the chili and French onion soup which were also great. The next night we hung at the bar and had cocktails which were perfect and had their shebeen wings. Highly recommend! Kudos to the staff.
