I stopped in here after a hard days work and was delighted and relieved to find a simple dive bar serving simple bar eats along with my Blue Moon Beer. The foot is very basic - large hot dogs served plain on the bun, squeeze your own toppings; bar pies; $1 pretzels (arguably the best deal, although the hot dog isn't bad for $2.25). This is not a place to dine. This is a place to drink, hang out, meet up with local friends, watch the game, and stay for awhile. It does all that just fine. read more

Yay! This is a great little dive bar. I started a new job at the beginning of the year and one of my coworkers recommended it. I've lived in the area for a while, have driven past it countless times, have giggles at the sign (wondering if it was a ripoff of Hooter's), but never bothered giving it a chance. Went there pre-covid and loved the indoor imbibing experience. Tried the outdoor seating during covid - once in summer and once in autumn - and it's kind of a free-for-all and safety will depend on who else is there. Crowd can get a bit rambunctious so it's not my ideal scenario. But I can't wait for post-covid because I'll definitely be going back for the cheap and varied drink selection. read more

Honestly, this is what I want in a dive bar. Looks crappy on the outside, equally so on the inside. Odd demographic of clientele as well. But... Ridiculously decent beer menu of rotating seasonal taps...the kind of thing you'd expect to find at a tap room (even if it's just 7 or 8 taps), plus good bottled selections as well. I've not tried the food yet, but I can heartily recommend this place as a good place to grab a beer. A good one to use to break friends into the idea of a dive as well since it has the divey look and feel without feeling like, say, hillbilly hall or some of the similar REAL dives. read more

I love how they get creative at this bar...ie, always changing up the decorations to fit the holiday, dressing up the owls, and hosting events like Halloween karaoke: "SCARYOKE." There's a good amount of TV screens, and by good I mean there isn't an endless friggin row of 'em blaring so loud you can't eavesdrop on the hilarious barfly babbling at her poor drinking companion how she's so tanorexic she can't even get a tan in Florida... This was our first visit to Hoover's, and we will return every chance we get. It is a local neighborhood bar. Nothing fancy, good jukebox, cold beers, but what made our experience exceptional was the amazing bartender we had, and the locals we met there. The bartender's name was Chrissie. I think the term dive bar gets thrown around loosely and people often use that word to describe a dark generic Irish pub. You want to know what a dive bar is, Hoover's is a god damn dive bar and I think that by even writing a Yelp review on Hoover's betrays those that go here and work here, but fuck it. I went here for years and got stares from dudes nearly every time I came through. So if you aren't a professional day drinker here, expect it from the locals. The bartenders have always treated my friends and I right. If you want to really trip, try taking a trip up the street to Mt. Tabor and you'll think you've stepped into It's A Small World with all their multicolor houses for all the gnomes that live there. read more

I must say, I was a little skeptical coming here as most small town bars I have been to have their own ways, or 'cliques', for lack of a better word. But after minutes of grabbing a seat at the bar, I was greeted by who I assume is their main bartender, a woman who looked to be in her late 30's. She was very kind and personable, and I didn't feel at all rushed to order nor was asked for payment for my drinks until the very end of the night. Atmosphere was very laid back, a good mix of a crowd with ages ranging from early 20's to late 50's. The fact that they sell beer and wine until closing (2 a.m.) is just an added bonus. My favorite local bar. I'll walk here during a snowstorm and enjoy a drink or two or ten and have a great time. Definitely more of an older crowd but who cares--everybody chills in their spot and you won't be bothered in contrast to the groups of children you'd find in Morristown.
