paul made a dismal January 2 winter's visit a time full of hygge as we say in Denmark. I'd left another Irish eatery-drinkery in town because the teen-ish greeter sat me in the middle of a room at a two person near picnic table and she could care less. Not Paul. He warmly welcomed this weary traveler on frosty foot by inviting me to sit wherever I'd like. He then attended to me by walking the football field (or pitch) length of the bar to take and bring my orders with nary a complaint or grimace. And the shepard's pie was the best I've ever had in my life INCLUDING IN IRELAND (coming close the edging out one I had in Kilkenny!) The French Onion soup had a veritable salad of liquid cheese solidified into gullet-cramming ecstasy with the soup itself reminding me of my first such onion soup in Montmartre at Mere Catherine in Paris as a tot - an eatery that is there to this day. And don't tell my new trainer at the gym I INHALED THE SAVORY CHEESE CAKE WITH A GIANT TWO DOLLOPS OF WHIPPED CREAM! And though I'd just told my gastroenterologist in town I don't drink - and Hand to God I don't, I asked which of the Blessed Bushmills they had and Paul recited the trilogy of Regular and Black and Honey! So what's like sure to be my one Bushmills of 2026 glazed and soothed by Arctic Throat with the delicacy of the world's oldest drilled whisky - years ago I visited the distillery in Northern Ireland where it's said while the whisky cures in casks, that which evaporates is the Angel's Share. So this true Irish jewel - not far from the Green where men and women were hung for crimes but now just hang out in warmer times, is here with its doors and arms often. Have really struggled to find bar food here that is really edible, the burger is OK to mediocre, and the nachos were disgusting. The drinks are not usually balanced, as there is a mosquito that is made with Sprite. They definitely take the quantity over quality approach. It is disappointed, based on how large the space is and its prime location. The chili is pretty good, but that was all I have found so far. I have been told that they have good prime rib and that will be the next thing I try. The service downstairs is much better than the service upstairs, which typically leaves much to be desired, but the Hispanic server was much better than the older white man. read more

Hasn't changed too much! Back door entry from municipal parking lot #10 ($1/hr after 5p or on weekends) makes it easier to park there than other places around Morristown's Green. The dutch pretzels were good - little bite-sized pieces with mustard and cheese. The pub potato chip nachos were ok; could have used more even cheese and toppings. The hopper tater tots were a favorite of the table. The fried mozzarella cheese sticks were just ok, more breading than cheese. Beers and other drinks were great, server was very busy so a little tough to get their attention. read more

Always a fun lively Pub. It can be noisy but that's what I want in a Pub. Food is good and prices reasonable. One of my favorites.

Breakfast is amazing, I love the Irish breakfast with bangers n mash. This place has the best service, most hospitable vibes, you'll meet your best friends here. Best place to watch a game, especially premier league Sundays, and Tuesday karaoke is always a good time. read more

This place has a very nice vibe. Large pub area downstairs with TVs and all. Upstairs large dining area with tables and TVs where families with kids are welcome. The staff was friendly and the food came out quickly. Our issue was the food was very expensive for what you got. The crock of Shepards pie was a small thing for $16. The fish and chips was $17 and apparently comes with only three small pieces of battered fish. We skipped the fries and got a side salad which was a nice option. The salad was fresh and delicious. The tartar sauce was homemade and the fish and chips were rather dry and overcooked but not terrible. However for $17 you'd expect more than three small pieces of fish in the order. Because the prices are high for what you get we will probably choose another of the many Irish pubs around. That said if you're a local with kids it's probably my a good option. read more

I came in for a beer and got kicked out, they didn't explain to the reason, they just kicked me out.

Got kicked out due to using the unoccupied men's bathroom because the women's bathroom line was very long and insane. My friend and I quickly did our business and removed ourselves from the bathroom (mind you no man was waiting). Then on my way out of bathroom I was being yelled at and escorted out by a man in a white tshirt. I grew up in Morristown and am disappointed by the people who run this bar. Getting kicked out after years of going because I had to pee really bad is ridiculous. All the bouncers are rude and entitled. Hands were put on us for no reason and we left willingly since we didn't want problems. The only thing we asked was why we were being removed and there was no answer from workers. Focus on letting non underage kids in rather than women using an unoccupied men's bathroom. read more

Everyone in our party of 5 enjoyed their entree which means a lot. My sister-in-law had the Shepard's Pie, and her husband had the Beef Stew and both said it was among the best they ever had. We waited over an hour to get our food and then another long wait to get the check / our cards back. Would not recommend if you're hungry. Expect to wait. Pluses: Only place open in Morristown for a group of 10 on a Tuesday night. Beer. Very good burgers. Fries done perfectly. Parking is right there. Minuses: Beer was neither the coldest nor cheap. Burger was a little more done than desired, while someone else's was bleeding (switch!). Service dropped off as the night advanced; we had a long wait for our check to be closed out. Do not go here on karaoke night unless you want to karaok. The Hop is one of those Morristown places that just, every time you talk about downtown it just comes up. It's there. It's less of the fake-ID college crowd and a little more adult (late 20s is as old as Mtown gets). I was honestly impressed by how good my burger was. My entire table of 10 got burgers. I don't know if the rest of the food would hold up. There are tables there but it doesn't really lend itself to table dining. It's a bar first and foremost. It's the sort of place that you never really say "oh, let's go back here!" but you always find yourself here for whatever reason. My husband recommended this place as he came hear on his lunch break to have a burger and said it was great so I wanted to try , we walked in an seated ourselves and the waiter came over shortly after an gave us menus .. I was originally going to try the burger but I seen they had Shepherds pie which is a fav of mine so I had to try and my husband got his burger , we also got the wings for appetizer as well ! The wings were ok , a little small but not horrible and my Shepards pie was ok as well , the meat was very sweet an not many vegetables but the mash on top was good ! I did take a bite of my husbands burger an the meat did wow me . Irish Bar with a lot of charm, yet still has that sports barlike feel. Loved the dark wood bar and tables and all the fun stuff on the walls. I have been here twice, once years ago but I remember I liked the Shepherds Pie. Tonight I tried something different. The bartender easily talked me into trying what I think he called the "sizzle steak". It was reasonably priced and it came with a baked potato. The steak was huge and served pipping hot. When it comes, you add the butter slabs to the plate and the "sizzle" comes from the butter boiling around your steak. Kinda cool (see my clip). The steak was not the highest quality, but was decent for the price. Basically, if you are looking for a choice steak, this might not be for you. Overall it was a definitely a fun way to eat a steak and it was a good meal. Loved the French Onion Soup and Potato. read more

So on Sunday, May 28, 2023, we decided to meet for drinks and food. Went then decide on this establishment, not sure if they are the same as the other Grasshoppers but never had an issue at the other places so thought we'd enjoy it. Walked in and sat down. Waiter came over and was grumpy from the moment he walked over to the table. Barely spoke and didn't greet us. Just said here's some menus, just place them on the edge of the table when done. We made our food choices, placed menus near the edge of the table and he walked over. Grumpy once again. Maybe being a Hispanic couple bothered him. Not sure but you would figure that he'd try and earn the tip at least. So we chose to try two different wing flavors, the beer battered onion rings, and a pastrami on rye with fries. He asked if we'd like it all brought together or wings and onion rings ahead. Yes please, wings and onion rings ahead and then the sandwich and fries. Okay he says. Well three minutes later, all the food comes out and placed on the table. Hmmmm, that's weird. Three minutes for this? Ok. Wings looked and tasted as if they were retried and sitting around for a bit. Beer battered onion rings which I've had tons of times were not light and golden and crispy. They were dark, drenched in oil, and soggy as if they had been refried several times. The wings weren't hot at all and again tasted refried. I hate to make waves when ordering food as we all know we can't see what the cooks could possibly end up doing to our food. Picked at the food. A beer and a half later we left. Bill paid. Tip included. Stupid me. Should have complained. Worst service and worst food ever. Went home a short while after and was hit with the worst heart burn ever and ended vomiting several times. They're thief's. They charged my credit card twice. I called 2 times and was told someone would call me back. NOPE. NOTHING. Bartender told me that if you mistakenly leave your credit card there (which they had a cup full of credit cards next to cash register) they crush you by adding a large tip. Food was mediocre. Came here for the first time during a lunch break. It's perfect during lunch time. Not packed, food and drinks come out pretty quick. I got the Grasshopper Burger. This is another standard run of the mill Irish pub with an emphasis on sports. Because there aren't enough of those in New Jersey. There aren't many veggie options on the menu, if you are a vegetarian. I'm not even crazy about their beer options. They're just ok. And they really should be ashamed by their chicken fingers. Best Irish bar in Morristown area with a high bartender standard and above par food. It's a lovely Irish pub with a lively bar downstairs and a spacious dining room upstairs. We stopped here for a quick drink before going to holiday party. They had solid selection of craft beers, decent bar eats. Lot of TVs make this spot a good stop to catch a game. The grasshopper on the green is the best bar morristown has! Service is A1, all the bartenders and waitresses are friendly and deliver the best customer service. Plus, super low key! The food is delicious & drinks are espectacular. Paul the bartender has made my boyfriend and I feel like we belong at this bar. For us being a different race the warmth and hospitality we have felt does not compare. Hands down our favorite bar! Highly recommend! Thank you guys !!! Over an hour line to get into the bar on a holiday. When we got inside it wasn't even as packed as they made it seem for the long wait time. I witnessed them kicking someone out for not throwing out a bottle that was already on the floor and wasn't even theirs...these big "security" men are just trying to look manly. When his friend tried to explain he said "take out his wordy girlfriend also," so on top of kicking out someone who didn't do anything wrong they kicked out someone for trying to explain.
