When you are married to Patricia Mary Flynn, March 17th is a day for a special Irish feast ... Corned Beef and Cabbage. The funny thing is that my wife's Irish relatives never eat that meal ... to expensive! For us, it's a treat. I had their offering of the celebrated meal and it was wonderful. It was also a very generous portion so besides a lusty lunch, I'm planning on a delicious dinner. My wife had their fish and chips (head scratching but she likes fish more that beef) and she called her meal yummy, yummy. The crowd at the restaurant was "out the door) so we did take out. That's a good option for these special annual events. I plan on visiting soon because we saw shepherd's pie on the menu and that's one of my favorite non-italian meals. Generous portions, tender beef, perfectly cooked vegetables ... winner, winner holiday dinner! read more

Casual bar on Danville's main road. There is public parking for the various stores and restaurants in town. Did not have trouble finding parking on a weekday night. If you're ever there on a Wednesday, make sure to participate during Trivia night! I didn't get to try the food since I went there late, but did enjoy the drinks that evening. Really cute Irish pub, so warm and welcoming. Bar was busy even on a Tuesday night. I saw they have trivia at 8 on Wednesdays. There are two rooms with tables that are quieter and we sat there. Very quaint decor. We split a chicken wrap, it had great flavor but chicken was chewy. read more

Stopped in for lunch on Tuesday afternoon. We were greeted warmly by our host, then by our waiter (Ben). As an appetizer we ordered Frychos (not for the faint of heart): waffle fries topped by pulled schnitzel, cheese, and caramelized onions, which was sinfully good. And huge. For main courses we ordered fish and chips and an Irish breakfast, both delicious. Their unsweetened ice tea has a hint of lemon which makes it perfect. Inside the restaurant is decorated in an eclectic way which just works. What a great meal, great service, great value. It was my second time here, and there is so much more to have; I definitely will return, and highly recommend it. read more

6 stars and I'll be back!!! This is probably one of the best Irish pub/restaurants I've ever been to. I'm not gonna lie! The atmosphere from the outside to the inside is reminiscent of your typical pub/restaurant in Ireland. The town and street it's on makes it that much better as Denville is one of the best towns in NJ(my opinion). We were having a flight of beer across the street at Diamond Spring Brewing Company when I was like let's go check out the Irish place across the street and grab an app and a beer. I am glad we did too because I was pleasantly surprised at the interior of this place. We sat in a cool wooden booth overlooking the bar and enjoyed a Cape May IPA(me) and a Magners Irish Cider(gf) and ordered the Irish potato skins app minus the bacon and added chili. We had a pretty lackluster experience here. The food was average at best. This was expressed by my whole party of four. Personally I got the buffalo chicken dip which was ultimately just ok, I would never get it again. I then got the French dip styled entre which was very bland and lacked flavor in my opinion. I will say one dish that my party seemed to really like was the loaded French fries. Service also seemed to ignore us for the most part. We would ask for basic things like silverware or refills and be completely forgotten. One positive note that I will mention is that the ambience was quite nice on the inside. read more

Server was fantastic. Corned beef was dry. Chili had no taste. Not so famous French fries. Shepard pie was good but too many vegetables. Just an ok experience. Was hoping for a better experience especially for St Patty day weekend. Ambiance was nice. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in downtown Denville. The food is awesome and the extras like trivia games and whatnot keep me coming back. The only reason I have to knock 1 star out is because their TouchTunes jukebox is offline and they have no clue how to turn on the closed captions for the televisions which makes it impossible to enjoy watching Family Guy or anything with dialogue. I was promptly seated today during a mid afternoon stop in Denville. Katie M was my server and she was super efficient and nice. Prime Rib Dip hit the spot nicely with a substitution of fries with mash. It was not too crowded on this humid day, and the place was comfortable. Great visit and value, I will be back when in the area. read more

A dinner stop at Thatcher McGhee's Irish Pub on Broadway in Denville. Sat at the bar and ordered their Galway Fish & Chips, along with a few cold beers from their large tap selections while watching the Giants pre-game show. You know you're in a good Irish pub when your served speaks with a strong Irish brogue. LOL Thatcher McGhee's is a lively, casual, and friendly place, with an Irish cottage atmosphere. The service is fast and friendly. A fun place to watch a game, or just hang with friends. The fish and chips were very tasty. Three nicely sized pieces of juicy cod fillets prepared in a light, crispy batter, perfectly soft and crunchy. Just like they're supposed to be. The fillets were accompanied by a generous side of crispy french fries and onion rings; malt vinegar (a must)and ketchup appropriately arrived with the meal. A nice, lively, neighborhood pub. But to be honest, everything in the food department was just average. Burgers - meh. Corned beef - meh again. Apps - standard. A highlight was the draft beer - fresh and cold. Service was somewhat friendly, somewhat edgy and a bit slow. If a couple of buddies invited me to join them at the bar, I'd surely go back. We were in town visiting for the holidays and happened upon this restaurant. First of all we had to climb stairs to get into the place finding out there was an elevator later for MY WIFE with a replaced tip not a good thing then when we got inside, it was extremely crowded and busy and the business showed our service was poor and intermittent at Best. The food was OK. Nothing to write home about the attitude of all the employees really turned my day off, cause as much money as they probably weren't making with such a full house not a smile in the place no we won't be back. The ambience was terrible in the restaurant. May be better in the bar, but I didn't go there. Good luck with the future but from the packed house, maybe you don't need it read more

This is one of my consistent go to places for several years. The food is usually great. The servers are all fantastic. It's a great convenient spot with delicious food that's reasonably priced. I'm very happy to support this business and you'll be happy with this place if you give it a try. Whoever the owner and management is is doing a great job with this place. She not only executed our orders to perfection, but I watched along as she memorized regulars drinks AND food orders. When I say there is a good bartender, a great bartender, that is a compliment. Thatcher McGhee's is a nice casual spot to grab a bite and a drink. They have a shaded outdoor patio with plenty of seating which was perfect for a warm summer evening. The menu is large and you can find all of the bar classics, plus some Irish fare too. And of course there is a large menu filled with libations -- local draft beers, wines and cocktails galore. My plate of sliders was huge and came with four decent sized burgers. Melted American, sauteed onions, pickles and a burger on a potato roll - perfection! The burgers also came with a side of crispy crunchy fries. There are a bunch of kids meal options and for $7 it's a great deal. My daughter enjoyed dinosaur chicken nuggets, tater tots and an included vanilla ice cream. This was a planned treat (she had to get shots at the doctor before) so it was definitely a happy ending to her day. I skew more towards downtown Morristown than Denville, but I'd certainly head back to Thatcher's for a return visit. read more

We joined my husband's brother and family for a Sunday afternoon meal. We ordered drinks that arrived quickly and reviewed their menu. Hubby had a cheese steak sandwich with fries and I ordered a "Rachel" sandwich, sister in law chose the special scallops and brother had a cheeseburger. All food orders were brought out in a reasonable time and were good. My sandwich was so filling I brought half home. We admired the interior which resembled an Irish cottage, and decor in this location has been improved greatly since the last time we were in this establishment. I came here upon recommendation from a coworker. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the crowd. It was super loud. Then I realized it was really only 2 patrons that were super noisy. I ordered a snake bite and a burger. I requested side of tots, but it came with fries. Unfortunately, that's when the crowd picked up, so I was unable to get staff attention to correct. Came here for the first time during the week night and did a carry out order. It was super easy and simple to order simply by calling the restaurant directly. When I did arrive it was easy to find street parking luckily because this is an a downtown area with a lot of restaurants and shops.. When I arrived again very easy to pick up the order it was ready to go. It was also nice to see that there was outdoor dining options as well during September. First timer!!! Boy was I overdue. Great friendly staff and such a great vibe. It felt like the weekend starts the minute you walk in. Everyone's so relaxed and bar sitting was so missed. I was approached immediately with a smile,bar menu, and drink menu. I ordered the mango- tango. And for those who never had it, is taste like VACATION!! Beach, sand, and sun . Enough said! I was pretty thrilled I got a winner. I decided on Calamari since I crave a good tasting properly shaped calamari. I must say it's been a while since I have seen a great bowl of calamari. Did I say Calamari? I have seen calamari like onion rings lately. Ugh my struggles. It was cooked perfectly and was awe so tender. Big Plus my lemon actually had lemon juice. First time here for a quick midnight appetizer run! Ambiance- Very standard Irish pub with attire being casual. Parking was easy in their lot. The indoor and outdoor seating seemed great although I sat indoors. For 10pm on a Friday night, it was definitely busy but not too filled to sit myself and a friend at a large booth. Price Point - Standard and expected for the quality/quantity of food we got. Pros - It was a planned quick meal and it was right before the kitchen was closed. We were served quickly and received quality pub appetizers. The mac and cheese was delicious in the croc pot and the chicken fingers were great. Nothing tasted like it was cheap, frozen, and made in a microwave. Cons - Not much of a con, but this review is based solely off my late night appetizer run. I would definitely have preferred to have come earlier and try more traditional Irish food and see how it compares to what I'm used to. Overall - I would definitely come back and bring more friends! Thatcher's is a great find for a local tavern. I was happy with the service and quality/quantity of food. I look forward to trying more traditional dishes next time! read more

Thatcher is our new family go-to. The food was IRRESISTIBLY INCREDIBLE! Each of us got something different and across the board it was delicious. The service was great along with the atmosphere. It felt like we were at someone's home having dinner. Honestly their food was amazing. They clearly take pride in their recipes and you can tell with every bite. Don't even hesitate to head inside and grab anything you'd like. When I asked the waitress what her favorite dish was I believe her "I can't pick one favorite I eat/try something new every day because it's all excellent". Great place! read more
