Since 1979, the Quiet Man has served amazing meals, provided comfort food, a place to feel at home and joyous music and entertainment. They will be closing next Saturday. If you haven't been, I'm sorry. If have, rejoice and know the chef, Skip, who happens to be my brother-in-law will enjoy his retirement after a chaotic, non-stop last month. I stopped in for lunch today with my good friend and struggled with what my last meal should be. I opted for the Chicken pot pie and corn fritter. It was light, flaky and delicious. The corn fritter came with maple syrup and brought me great joy. My friend went with the pork Milanese which was huge! It came with mashed potatoes and veggies. She definitely will be having a second meal from that pork cutlet. She also ordered a Reuben to take home for her hubby. Sorry, no photos of the sandwich. The service is always top notch and the drinks free flowing. Stop in if you can. But know the wait will be lengthy but worth it. read more

Authenticity Cozy Irish Pub with soft lighting and warm friendly staff. Smaller establishment but not too tight. There may be a wait on busier days; but not too bad and worth it. Nice bar, and good selection for wines and beer. Parking is street parking mostly and they have couple of parking spots to the side of the restaurant. Genuine hospitality that welcomes you like they've known you forever. You are going to ask why you haven't been here many times before after you visit. Everything is of quality and fresh. The menu is concentrated offering a nice balance of traditional items and Irish dishes. The Potato and Leek Soup is made very well with such a clean smooth broth and plenty of potato and leek present in the soup. Try the Cajun Chicken and Sausage gumbo was a nice option offering Big pieces of Chicken and Andouille Sausage. Nice kick but not overwhelming. Clams or Mussels appetizers are on point and worth sharing with the table. The Corned Beef and Cabbage dish was amazing and definitely NOT bland! Lean Corned Beef and fresh hand cut veggies make this a must have! The NY Strip, is tender, cooked perfectly and recommend having the whiskey sauce over the top! For $38.95 it is a bargain! The Quiet Man has been a local favorite for decades. I have so many memories of wonderful times with family and friends. I'm saddened that they will be closing at the end of the month. Had heard great things about Quiet Man and finally got to check it out last Friday night. We were able to get a parking spot in their small lot next to the building and also got a booth for 2 people with no wait. Our waitress was very nice and when my husband asked which dish she liked best, was quick to recommend the corned beef and cabbage. I got the fish and chips. They also brought out two slices of Irish soda bread for us. My fish was light and flaky and the fries were also cooked perfectly (just could've used a little more salt for my preference which was an easy fix). My husband said the corned beef was some of the best he's ever had! There was a live performer playing the guitar and singing some good tunes. Based on the event schedule he's there fairly often (and for good reason!) By the end of the night the restaurant was pretty full with many lively patrons having a great time, after all, it was the Friday before St Patty's day. Had many meals there from the 70s to when i moved out of nj 10 years ago and never had a bad meal or service and for years when ever i had a special dinner party i would order a tray of there scalloped potatoes and they were always the highlight of the night and miss that fantastic place and can't ever be replaced . read more

Friendly is the name of the game at the Quiet Man. And not just a professional politeness. There was a genuine warmth to all the staff we encountered. Food was good. Wings weren't the best but we enjoyed the pork chop Murphy, cod and strip steak with old school classic steak fries. Only slight ding was my draft Harp. I love Harp but it had a skunky after taste, most likely from unclean beer lines. Place itself is very cozy and cute but pretty small. Perfectly mellow live music was great and was delighted that no tv was on. Parking can be a bit tricky. Service was good and as noted, super friendly! I'm glad when St. Patrick's Day is on the weekend, so we wanted to enjoy the day at The Quiet Man Pub, and it was nothing short of amazing! First time here, but will be back. Walked in--short wait for a table--was greeted with festive decorations, lively music, and a great atmosphere. The staff was prompt and friendly; all were dressed with St. Patty's flair...the servers sporting green attire...ensured that everyone was welcomed with cheerful smiles and the Irish spirit. We sat near the band, so we enjoyed a the music, and then a gentleman walked in playing the Bagpipes, creating a festive mood. As for the food and drinks - we indulged in traditional Irish plates of tender corned beef and cabbage, bursting with flavor! Went downhill in the last several years we went for St. Patrick's Day I ordered the shepherds pie which was an extremely small dish and very watery. My husband ordered the bangers with cabbage and potatoes and carrots. Everything were extremely cold and the potatoes and carrots were hard. The bangers were just like breakfast sausage sausages he sent it back and ended up getting a sandwich. I also ordered an Irish coffee which came in a tiny little glass. Usually, you get a little bit of green cream of mince on the top of it shaped in a shamrock, but there was nothing there probably won't be returning here Thatcher McGee's is a lot better. read more

For over 40 years The Quiet Man has been a staple restaurant in Dover. This place is the epitome of what an Irish pub should be. It had been a couple of years since I've had the chance to stop in, but my wife and I were able to get here for lunch today. Even in these COVID days, it was still a pleasure to dine here. The bar is closed, but we ate in the rear dining room, the O'Hara Room. To start it off, we ordered drinks from a large drink menu. My wife had a Peppermint Stick, which is Rum Chatta with white creme de menthe, and I had a great Black & Tan. For our meals, we each had a bowl of soup, then two classics...I had Shepherds Pie and my wife had fish n chips. Everything was delicious! If you're in the Dover area, I definitely recommend giving this landmark restaurant a try! read more

Well well this place is a hidden jem .... Atmosphere : cozy and comfy Service : outstanding and friendly .. A friend suggested this place so we decided to check it out o be we were in the area. So here we go .. The French Onion soup was very good , it just needed a little more bread . The butternut squash soup was certainly the very best I've ever had . Nantuket Cod Filet with scalloped potatoes was simply amazing . Very very good !!!! The crusted salmon cake was not really what I expected to be honest , it was just mushy and had way to much green peppers mixed into it . They also have a bread called quiet man brown Irish bread and that must be one of the best breads I've had !! I would definitely go back. And try some other things on the menu , the only thing that bothered me was that they were sweeping and cleaning the rugs while people were having lunch / dinner . I understand everyone likes a clean environment . However that is just not the time to do that . read more

We've lived in Morris County almost my entire life and today was the first time going to Quiet Man!!! We went around 2:00 and it was still pretty crowded but we were able to get a corner table. We ordered cocktails and after we placed the order they brought nice warm Irish soda bread to the table. The little neck clams were absolutely delicious, according to my husband "they were a 10 out of 10"! The shrimp were delicious, only critique is there were 4 medium sized shrimp and a lot of toast. The wings were so delightfully crispy.. hard to get in a wing, they were on the mild side. My highlight of lunch was absolutely the incredibly delicious fish and chips. Batter was crunchy and flavorful, chips nicely done and I always appreciate malt vinegar served alongside. Service was excellent, very attentive wait staff! Overall a delightful place for lunch! Fish and chips- batter was crispy and on the thicker side fish was moist and flaky a little bland for me but very delicious. Chips- huge portion. But below average chips some were fried gold some weren't. But I picked out a few good ones to eat with my fish. The tartar sauce was homemade and had a nice taste. The staff was very friendly. While visiting NJ for work and meeting up with my best mate I Yelped this place that wasn't but a long stones throw from my hotel. Outside on the sidewalk it was quiet then we walked in and found the place almost full on a Tuesday night and it wasn't long until we found out why this place is the locals favorite hang out. We both found 2 bar stools and ordered drinks; my mate got a Guinness and I ordered a Magner's. The bar tender was very friendly and the Atmosphere was warm and inviting. This was a reunion of sorts so I was happy that I picked a good place. Yelp never lets me down! After speaking with the bar tender we found out that Tuesday was Crabcake Night so we both decided to go with the meal that drew the crowd; I got the Cajun and sausage soup with mine and my mate got coke slaw. We started off with the mussels in white wine butter sauce. When I lived in NJ 15 years ago this was my wife and I go to appetizer but this is the first time having it since then. The mussels did not disappoint and brought back memories. Soon after finishing the mussels our meals arrived which had ample portion size. The crabcake was light and meaty with a tasty sauce on the side. Along with the crabcake the meal came with steamed broccoli, corn on the cob and scalloped potatoes. The soup was outstanding also had just enough kick to loosen my sinuses. Outstanding meal in a fun atmosphere. First time at this place and absolutely was awesome. My wife and I went here we ordered 3 dinners planning on taking leftovers. The service and the food were awesome. I had fish and chips was one of the best I ever had. Was not greasy 3 big pieces of cod light batter amazing. Wife got chicken pot pie and Shepards pie both very good. Price to portion was excellent. The pub has nice dinning room seating the bar side had tighter booths. We had 3 dinners 4 drinks and 1 Irish coffee the bill was $110. Not bad at all. Plan on going back for sure. read more

What a great experience! Not only was the food great, the friendly staff and other patrons were a lot of fun! I found this place by reading the great reviews on Yelp... it did not disappoint! When I walked in I was welcomed by a friendly bartender who told be to eat at the bar because "it's more fun at the bar"! She was right, after the locals figured out I was from out of town, they (including the bartender) starting telling me the rich history of "The Quiet Man Pub" including historical pictures. Apparently the pub is named after the movie of the same name staring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hare. I believe the owner actually worked on the movie set and got to know the stars, so well that Maureen O'Hara actually came to this establishment a couple of times! Many stories later, and after a bowl of excellent French Onion Soup and a tasty (generous) portion of Shepherds Pie, its was time to say good bye. Thanks to Yelp I found this restaurant in a town I have visited many times but just passed it by at least for the last 30 years. Sat at the bar as place was packed on Sunday dinner time. Guy next to me got the fish sandwich. It was huge and he said terrific. Couple on the other side drive almost an hour to eat here and recommended the pork cutlet which is pounded and tender. They share one normally. I ordered the pork chop a poivre. Peppercorns and a hint of cream. It was huge and came with broccoli plus scalloped potatoes. Could have shared this one too, but with who? Mrs. G didn't come this trip. I'm here all week and hoping to get back again for a fish dish. I HIGHLY recommend the Quiet Man. read more
