They are also dog friendly and bring out water bowls for your dog. The peanut butter martini was also delicious! I realized that it's been a very long time since I originally reviewed Second Half and it needs an update. Second half has become one of our go-to places when the neighborhood boys want to grab some lunch and have a beer or two. Whenever we come here we're greeted enthusiastically and our servers are always super friendly. Coming here for lunch is always great as the place isn't loud and we can eat, drink, and hear each other talk. We were here recently for lunch and I had the fish and chips (except I subbed out the fries for onion rings). They don't have a huge selection of beers, but they usually have a nice selection of GOOD beers. read more

The food is good from the few times I been there. My biggest complaint is the appetizers. They are on the smaller side (and that is saying something for appetizers). Warm and cozy. Those are the two words that come to mind as we walked in to The Second Half. The staff was very welcoming and catered to our every need. We ordered the French Onion Soup, which was very good and is recommended. Our almost three-year-old couldn't stop eating the chicken fingers and fries. For the main course, I had a cheeseburger with cheese and onions. The burger was overcooked (asked for medium well and the bottom was burnt) but the waffle fries were very tasty. I asked for BBQ sauce on the side and it was some of the most delicious sauce I have ever had - it had a slight kick to it that I loved. We would definitely come back. read more

A perfect lunch in the heart of downtown Denville. Stopped in for lunch at The Second Half On Main to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day. We arrived at 1:40ish and were able to grab a table near the bar, with no wait at all. While a Guinness is a St. Patrick's staple, I'm not a big fan so stuck with what I know and ordered an IPA. When we first sat down, we were greeted by Kaitlin ( if I botched the spelling on you name, I apologize. There are so many variations) She was quick to keep us hydrated and had a good grasp of the beers available. We ordered a few Lunch IPA's (The Maine Brewing Company - 7% ALC) as well a Guiness which arrived rather quickly. Kudos to Kaitlin for going above and beyond I'm making sure our table wasn't wobbly. We assured her our beers we not a tipping hazard, but she did not want to take that chance and corrected the problem. A huge thanks for going the extra mile for us and not risking a spilled beer. When it came to ordering, Adam took over and was very attentive as well. We took advantage of one of the daily specials and ordered the Conred beef sandwich (coleslaw, pickle and horseradish sauce) as well as a burger. All meals were delicious and served fresh. We were checked on several times during our meal and service was top notch. The beer was cold and the food was great and made for a great St. Patrick's Day lunch. For those hankering a good meal for St. Patrick's Day, consider The Second Half On Main. I'm rather confident they offer this meal all day long for takeout or eat in while supplies last. We did try another local place but it was jammed packed with an 45 minute wait. We found that The Second Half in Main less crowded and a great location for a few guys to catch up while having a few cold beers and eating some food. And could not hold it together to eat as the chicken wasn't stuck to any cheese that it just fell out. Didn't even try the rice (it was supposed to be subbed with fries). A quick Yelp search found this well known eatery. We placed a take out order for 4 (I got one too) and the bags of goodies were ready right on time. Big, juicy, flavorful and yummy are the adjectives for their take on a perennial favorite. The sandwiches came with fries in the take out container so they did get a little soggy. Every time my coworkers and I have gone, the food and service have been absolutely amazing. We don't go often, and the fact that Mike remembered us after the very first time was very impressive. Second half is a solid restaurant with a wonderful outdoor seating area. The service is fantastic and they have an extensive menu. They also have a kids menu that is rather impressive. I like that they have a full bar with a nice beer selection. The restaurant is located in downtown Denville and well within walking distance to classics such as Denville Dairy. I would gladly go back here, and my only complaint is that the crab cakes were a little over-fried. The ribs daily special, kids chicken quesadilla and salads all looked fantastic! read more

What he received was undercooked crab cakes and fries instead of onion rings. Moreover, the fries tasted like fish because they were obviously cooked in old oil. I didn't fare any better. Cute, cozy, with a neighborhood feel... all ways I'd describe Second Half. There were a lot of people there who all seemed to know each other, and gave it a familiar vibe right off the bat. My husband and I ate at the high-top tables on the bar side, and found the bar staff to be attentive but relaxed; we didn't feel rushed at all. We started with the spinach artichoke dip and enjoyed it; it was not as thick as you'd expect, which may be what some prefer. My husband had the buffalo chicken sliders and waffle fries for dinner, and I had the penne chicken vodka. The sliders came in a pair and the fries were GREAT. The penne was cooked well and the sauce was nice, but I could do without the garlic bread. The drinks were strong but not offensive and overall, I enjoyed my meal. I feel like this place is worth two stars only because of the quality and style of the food. The atmosphere and staff are great and it's really a nice affordable place to come with your family or friends but personally, the food was a deal breaker for me. I came here with six friends and we all shared appetizers, ordered different main dishes, and had dessert, so I can say I tried a pretty good portion of the menu. A couple of my friends ordered pasta and claimed that it was too watery while I ordered a filet mignon wrap which had a strange combination of ingredients (steak and goat cheese on a spinach wrap). The most strange part was that the meat in the wrap tasted more like lamb than steak - I never returned it so I didn't resolved this mystery but I also didn't eat it either. For dessert we had the brownie and ice cream which was pretty good but then again it's hard to mess up a dessert like that. Despite the food, the staff was very friendly. The hostesses at the front were very nice and our waitress Alex was one of the best waitresses I've ever had. She was so personable, attentive, and outgoing. She really added to the spirit of the atmosphere. Overall, I definitely would not come back here again but if you are someone who is willing to compromise quality for a cheap price then this is your place. read more

Disappointed to say the least... My fiance and I recently had a late dinner here. They list their closing for 12AM, so we called ahead of time to make sure their kitchen was still open. The staff said the kitchen closes at 9PM, so we walk in right at 8PM. When we ordered our food, my fiance even asked if we had enough time to get our meal and also get dessert; our server said we had plenty of time...or so we thought. I order a Guinness and the stuffed burger and she gets the mac and cheese with a side of bbq chicken. Food came out quickly, which was a plus, but it had no flavor. The mac and cheese was bland, without the chicken it would've been worse. As for stuffed burger, it was way overcooked; I don't even recall if the server asked what temp I would like it cooked to. Either way, the outside was burnt and it was overcooked and dry. It was supposed to be stuffed with blue cheese, onions and bacon but they were non-existent! I tasted about 2 pieces of raw onion, a single blue cheese crumble and what looked like bacon bits. When I think of a stuffed burger, I picture a juicy piece of meat with melted cheese oozing out of the center. With dinner being mehh, we at least had dessert to save the night. It was now about 8:40pm and our server clears the table. She comes back with the check and we're a little perplexed. We ask about dessert and she said that the kitchen was already closed. If we would have known they would close early, we would've ordered dessert along with our dinner. We feel that she could've at least given us a heads up the kitchen was closing, if we wanted to get dessert. So overall our meal was not the greatest. We have been here before, so we weren't sure what happened that night. Granted it was the end of the night, but service should always be same, no matter what time. Also, if the kitchen plans on closing earlier than said, it would be nice to be given a heads up. Their prices are pretty inexpensive, but I would not recommend this place. Their only saving grace was the Guinness was poured correctly and that they were able to accommodate adding bbq chicken to the mac and cheese. read more

Kids chicken fingers and fries were delish. Love that every fry was crispy from the first to the last. Brownie a la mode was definitely a portion for two, but not my fav. My wife and I decided to try a new place this Saturday evening. Reasonable prices, friendly, quick service and pretty good food. We shared the chicken wings appetizer. Not as good as BWW but not too bad either. Came with bleu cheese sauce, carrots and celery. The burgers were really good, great quality meat, soft and fresh. Several choices of burger types on the regular menu. I had the Cajun burger special and my wife the regular Angus burger with sautéed mushrooms. Almost too much to eat. Mmmmm. Decent selection of craft beers including Guinness and Alagash (like Blue Moon) at moderate prices. Parking on the street was easy for us as we arrived early on a Saturday evening but they also have a lot in the back. We will be back. read more

One of the best restaurants in Denville without a doubt. The second half is a very cute cozy restaurant with ample bar room & beautiful outdoor seating. You will be pleasantly surprised with their portion sizes without breaking the bank. Everyone from the bartender to our server were pleasant & had no issues with any questions or concerns that we had in regards to our meal. I love that the general patrons range from young couples to the elderly grabbing a glass of wine outside. There really is no other way to describe how incredible this experience was other than we will most certainly be returning soon. As for recommendations I would highly suggest the Portabella mushroom burger it came stuffed with deliciously cooked portabella, red onions, feta & a freshly baked bun.
