I'm very happy that we live only 1 mile from this place. They have a wide selection of wine, beer, and spirits and their prices are usually lower than other stores in the area. Make sure that you meet PJ, the owner. He'll get to know you and your family and he'll always make sure that you found everything that you came in looking for. He and the rest of the staff are also very good at recommending gifts in a specific price range. Sure, we still go to Gary's if we need cheese and other appetizers, but Wine Traders is now our go-to liquor store. read more

Although the place seems updated, it struck me as being disorganized and forget about finding the price on random items. It seemed like every other bottle of wine had prices missing. Add the fact that the staff wasn't even remotely friendly, this would be the last time I will be using this spot. I only decided to stop in here because I was picking up food in the area and was in a rush. Otherwise stop by Gary's on the other side in Madison. Tremendous selection of craft beer including many from New Jersey like New Jersey Beer Company, Cricket Hill and Flying Fish. Friendly people and they know what they have, the man helped me find local beers in the store. Many are in the coldbox, many many more are on the shelf warm. Prices are typical for craft beer, about $10 for a six pack, but to their credit there's a discount on every full complete case. My only gripe is that the big random pile of boxes in the middle of the aisle has no prices, you have to hunt around the outside where they are shelved to figure out how dang much it's going to cost you. Didn't spend much time ogling the wine or liquor, but there's plenty of that too. This just might be my new favorite liquor store because it's so close to me and the variety is so broad. My go to liquor store in the area, great selection across beer, wine and spirits. The owner is a friendly guy as well.

Standard selection but the place is dirty. Dust covers everything, nothing is organized, and it's pretty clear they aren't too concerned with keeping guests safe based on the appearances. At check out, the guy working the register couldn't be bothered to say a single word to me. Given most places are struggling I'm going to support the ones that are putting in some effort to make customers feel welcomed. read more

We stopped in on Sunday afternoon because I wanted to pick up some beer, and also check out the prices for wines and liquor. We normally shop at Gary's (Madison) or at Bottle King (Chatham), but this was on the way home, and since it's also local, we decided to give them some business. The first thing I noticed was that whenever we passed something that looked interesting, and looked for the price - there was none. MOST of the items we looked at had absolutely NO PRICES - not on the items, not on the boxes, and not on the shelves above or below. Really? Gary's and Bottle King have clearly marked prices on ALL of their stock. It's absurd that there were so many items that simply had NO indication of price. You should not have to find someone just to ask a price on nearly EVERYTHING! Needless to say, we walked out of there empty-handed, and will not be returning. Gary's and Bottle King will continue to get our business. read more

Great selection of liquor but the customer service is beyond AWFUL. Wow I have no words about how rude they are and incompetent

Never will buy there again. Very poor customer service regarding a keg we purchased for a party. Sent several taps after I called and complained and 2 of the taps were not even for our keg and the other 2 yielded same bad results. Ended up returning a half keg back to them 3/4 full and was hoping to get some partial refund or store credit but was told the keg looked fine from behind the counter never tried to tap it etc. Simply bad customer service. read more

I'm not sure why there are negative reviews. This place is a beer lovers paradise. I've found beers here I couldn't find at Gary's or in NYC. The wine and liquor prices are great. The staff is much nicer than the Bottle King in Chatham. There also deliver. Whether you're having a party or just stocking your bar, you can call with your order and even get ice and everything is delivered within an hour. Can't beat that. Minus one star for not having any gourmet cheeses or meats or even basic snacks. read more

The best place in the area for beer, wine, or spirits - and a great staff. Beer: the selection is diverse and deep. Still want some summers even though the pumpkins/Oktoberfests are out? Shouldn't be a problem. Good selection of cold items, too. I find pretty much anything I want to find here - and more because they do enough business with vendors to get a few of the rare items. I see below someone was upset they couldn't get 2 of a rare item. Why? Because this location has regulars like me that ask them to save a bottle when it comes in. And they do - without asking for anything in return. If I ran the business, I would save special items for my regulars, too. I am sorry you can't get what you want when you show up for the first time but this is a perk of remaining loyal to a vendor. Plus, I always enjoy talking with the beer guys to narrow down my list for the day/week ( I stop in multiple times/week), and they enjoy the chats as well. Wine: one of our first stops when we moved to the area was to get some help choosing the wine for our rehearsal dinner. The owner helped us pick it all out, taking the time to listen to our likes and wants and pair it up. This is what earned our loyalty. And when we gave a price range there was zero pushback, it was part of the fun and challenge. Fast forward a couple of years and we exchange greetings every time I come into the store. When I am looking for a wine, he knows what we like and our price range. It's always a fun experience and we learn a lot, too. I was interested in trying a different prosecco brut than our usual and asked to factor in how much my wife loves Veuve Clicquot champagne; I was presented 3 options in my usual price range and chose the lesser-known brand from the Cristal producer. Had no clue there even was one but this is the kind of things you learn from a staff that enjoy their jobs. To address another user comment, maybe not everything in the store has a price on it almost everything does; items on the top shelf don't because they are found elsewhere below so be sure to look around. Can't find it? Ask, I always do and every single person working here grabs it and comes back to me with the price. It's a non-issue, really. I've been there when new beer arrives and I see the individual bottles not labeled yet so I ask and - boom - I find... and am among the 1st to walk out with the new Evil Twin or latest Exit from Flying Fish. Spirits: I am a scotch guy first and have to say this place has the best selection of single malts in the area at most often the best prices (and when not the best, definitely fair). I shop around for whiskey to try to get my hands on various things and I always wind up coming back here, the selection is just that good. Sure, I can probably find a certain item $5 cheaper on sale out in Chester but it isn't worth it when it builds the relationship here. In addition to the owner, there are 2 whiskey guys here that enjoy the chat. We always have a good exchange and a laugh or 2. I was able to pick up some 2015 Cairdeas before it disappeared and get some Bruichladdich at the best price around. Plus, as a regular, I also get a couple of special hard-to-find items saved for the wife and me when the come in - I would mention it here but we were asked not to shout it from the rooftops. I also enjoy tequila & mescal, and a particular staff member always comes out to chat on these and share some stories. Lastly, my in-laws are in Europe so we always bring a couple of gifts with us when we go, always a small batch bourbon. I hate the stuff and have to rely on the staff to steer us right and they have never let us down. Last trip we took a Four Roses that was well received. Interesting twist - this Buy Rite has since had their own bottling of the stuff. Overall, this is definitely the best place in the area for beer, wine, and spirits. Yes, I have been to Gary's and go there 1/mo or so but mostly for cheese, bread, oil, vinegar, and the like. It's across town to me and I find their prices to average higher for beer and whiskey, with only an average selection of spirits. That being said, it's a great store whose strength is food and wine. And so is the Wine Library a few towns away. Still, the Buy Rite deserves to be your regular destination. read more

Have to drop this rating even further - tried to return a bottle today that had so obviously been stored improperly (I drink this particular wine all the time, and it was undrinkable). They refused to exchange it, even for a store credit, since I didn't save the receipt. Refused to look up the transaction in the computer. I spend $100 a week at this location, but I'll be taking my business to Gary's - where they would have switched it out, no questions asked. Just not a service-led org, in the least. read more

Huge selection. They have a large selection of craft beer and tons of wine. They have a lot of staff who are very present but when you ask for a recommendation for a specific type of wine at a certain price range, they aren't overly helpful. You have to seek out the right people to ask which is kind of annoying. Also, they do a % off depending on the numbers of bottles you buy but you have to specifically ask for it when checking out (kind of feels like their trying to pull a fast one although they may just be rushing). Prices are fair, I'll be back, but only when I know which specific product I want to purchase. read more

I used to be a very loyal customer to this place, but I will no longer go there because their staff, specifically the manager, is extremely rude and inconsiderate. I purchased a bottle of high-end tequila from their store about 2-3 weeks ago. At the time, my friends and I were making mixed drinks so we did not taste/notice that anything was wrong. The next day, my friend and I both got very ill, but drinking can do that sometimes so I didn't think much of it. Today, my friend tells me that he had tried making margaritas with the last of the bottle, but the drinks were absolutely awful because the tequila tasted horrible (and it smells awful too, but that could just be the tequila smell). It turns out that the bottle had expired in October, 2016. I went back to the store with the bottle, explained my story to the manager, and requested either a refund or a replacement bottle. The bottle was almost empty, and if he did not want to replace/refund the whole thing, that would have been fine and reasonable, but you'd think if a store sold you an expired product that got you and another person ill, and you spend a lot of money there, and the person working there recognizes you, you'd think that they would do at least SOMETHING to try and keep you as a customer. The manager immediately refused and said that it's not his problem, and that he couldn't do anything because the bottle was almost empty. He asked me if I had a receipt, but then again tells me he can't do anything because the bottle was empty. He told me to talk to the owner cause he couldn't do ANYTHING and that it wasn't his problem. He also said that they only sell the liquor and pack the shelves so I should call the distributor and take it up with them. That's like saying you go to Shoprite and buy bad meat, and instead of returning it, you're going to call the chicken distributor. Sorry, not the way it works. I told him that I spend a lot of money there and that if he was not going to help me out in any way, or even provide me with a basic discount on my next purchase, then I would no longer be shopping there. I walk into the liquor aisle and he yells from his little desk "hey buddy, the doors over there, the door's over there buddy." Really? Throwing out a customer because you sold them bad liquor? Throwing out a customer because I was upset that you sold me bad liquor and yet you act like you did nothing wrong? At this point, things were hostile so I left. As I'm walking out, he brags about how much he's going to be making soooooo much money from the store one day. I'm guessing that means he's related to the owner, but who knows.Then, as I'm putting the bottle into my trunk, he comes out of the store and yells something, and then he tells me to call the cops for putting the liquor in my trunk. Sorry "buddy," but it's not a crime to put an open container in your closed trunk. This is some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. No sympathy for what happened, no concern for losing a customer, no concern for selling expired liquor, and now, no more business from me, my family, and hopefully anyone reading this message. I didn't expect much when I went in, but I never imagined that I would be thrown out of a store because they sold me bad liquor and I got sick. Please, do yourself a favor and give your business to people who actually care about their customers and their health. read more

I've been shopping here since they opened but will now be taking my business else where. Decent beer selection but that does not make up for horrible service. I noticed from their beermenus they had a limited amount of Mattina Rossa from Allagash and alerted my one buddy who is also a frequent shopper there since opening. Since we both wanted one, my buddy picked me up and we drove together. When we got there we were told to speak with the "beer guy" who only gave us one bottle from behind the counter. When we asked if we could get one each, their "beer guy" abruptly said no as he turned his back on us to ring up another customer. When we asked another employee ringing us up if it was possible for us to get one bottle each he told us they only got 6 bottles total so they couldn't give us another. Then another employee stocking shelves behind us butted in and grunted they had sold them all. It was clear they had more bottles but did not want to sell them to us and continued to give us the run around. If you are holding bottles for customers make a reserve list. Had I known we couldn't get one each because we came together I would have driven separately and wasted the gas. These guys were rude and unprofessional - they will be loosing 2 good customers and we will definitely be spreading the word. read more
