My dinner last night was the Carne Asada Chimichanga with rice and beans. When it was brought out to me it was piping hot from the fryer. When I cut the Chimichanga open it was packed with 1/2 inch cubes of grilled steak. The guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and tomato on top was fresh and tasty. The rice and beans are also excellent. I usually put my rice in my beans so it is easier to scoop up! It was such a big meal that I only ate half. I finished off the rest for lunch today. The portion size is ideal for sharing. It has a very family friendly atmosphere, but the adults can also enjoy a beer or margarita as well. Restrooms are clean and odorless and the staff treats you like family. read more

I felt like Nana's met my needs, but I also felt like I need to visit at least one more time to give an accurate review. Based on my ONE visit, I will say the food was good and the pricing was fair. The building is a small strip mall area and the floor of the restaurant is facing a bar area. I was present for lunch which was half full or less and the services were timely. Only issue with the food was the refried beans seemed a little burnt but I did not have any other issues with the food. The menu is pretty average for Tucson Mexican food which we can be a little snobby about because Tucson has some of the BEST Mexican food in the US. So this does not take away from the quality. It is worth trying out and experiencing. Very casual, not very intimate, no dress up required. read more

Great margaritas, great chips & salsa, fresh & tasty guacamole. What else is there? I had the enchiladas that look like the Mexican flag. 3 enchiladas, 3 different sauces (red, white, green). We also had the enchiladas with the red sauce, the server said it was mild but it was fairly spicy. Dinner for 3 with appetizers and several margaritas = $80. Very good dinner at a good price. I ordered Fajitas Half Steak Half Shrimp. Let me say, save your money. I would not call what was delivered to me Fajitas in any way form or fashion. The steak and shrimp was not hot. The steak strips looked like left-overs. There were three small strips of steak and four baby shrimp. They spread this out over half of the plate to fill the plate. But there is no filling the plate when most of the plate is bare white. The sides, beans and rice tasted like they were dumped straight out of a can. The sides occupied the other half of the plate. I sure wished I would have taken a picture, because this is still hard for me to believe. But I was so stunned by what was brought to me especially since it is one of the more expensive meals. One of the other individuals at my table asked what it was they brought him. He said he did not order what he received and they argued that he did. He ordered a dish with chicken on it and was served some sort of a vegetarian corn dish. Ordered thru Grubhub recieved- no silverware, napkins, tortillas that came with my entree and NO SALSA with the order. I called and explained I dine in occasionally but had not ordered takeout from them for the last year because I had a disappointing experience prior. I asked them to explain why none of this was included in my order and was going to ask if I could just drive over and pick it up myself. I was first speaking to a woman but then had a man take the phone from her to tell me that this wasn't their problem "it was a Grubhub problem" -to call them. In addition.... The food is mediocre and the guacamole tasted only of smashed of avocado. Don't waste your money when there are plenty of amazing Mexican food places on the Northwest side that may treat you like a valuable, paying customer... the new Guadalajara opens soon right around the corner. read more

Definately it could have been much better. We have voted Nana's quite often, but tonight it was not good at all. We arrived a little past 7 and immediately sat down. Yes they were a little busy but it was normal on a Friday night. After finally ordering our meal 7:11 we sat and waited. We had to run down out waitress to ask for more chips and salsa (she only brought us salsa no chips). We finally received our food at 8:05. We had only ordered a Quesadilla and Taco Salad. The Quesadilla was horrible. Our waitress never came back to ask how our food was or if we needed anything or even apologized for the wait. We were extremely disappointed in the experience. The biggest reason for my group's visit in early April 2019 was the gluten-free options the restaurant offered. My group consisted of five people, one of whom has a diagnosed gluten sensitivity. Now we live on the NE side but will still drive 45 minutes each way to eat here because the food is that good and the family that owns this place is so lovely. Came in for breakfast this morning, but they were out of eggs, so we were going to go elsewhere, but I was so hungry and uncaffeinated that I needed something and there were waits at everywhere else in the vicinity. So I ended up ordering a coffee and the sopapillas and my mom ordered their mexican shrimp cocktail. The coffee was surprisingly good and strong and the sopapillas were absolutely fantastic! The dough was perfect (crispy on the outside and soft and airy in the middle) with a generous amount of powdered sugar and honey! There were six to an order and I could only finish four (trust that the other two came home with me). They were literally "finger-licking good" and my mom scolded me for licking my fingers in public, but I told her to wipe my hands on the napkin would have been a waste of sopapilla! She was in love with her shrimp cocktail and said it was so filling and flavorful, so there you go and she is a woman who loves her shrimp cocktails! The staff is so sweet here and I liked the decor, especially the painted mural. I will definitley be back during my out of town visit to Tucson to sample their lunch fare as they seem like a truly authentic mexican restaurant! read more

Interior is loud...mural on the wall is childish...understaffed...the two brothers more interested in talking to people about bourbon...was excited to try one of their award winning margaritas (passion fruit). I have eaten here several times and I would have given it 4 stars had the consistency been steady. Some times the food is amazing and some times the food is just so-so. The service can be hit or miss too. The chimichangas are very good - the tortilla is so light and crispy it's almost like it's puff pastry. Just went today and we decided that, since moving to Tucson 2 years ago, this has been our favorite Mexican restaurant. My carne asada chimichanga, rice, and beans were fabulous. My husband's enchiladas with green sauce (and rice and beans) were quite good, but we agreed the chimi was better. . Took the lettuce off the top and the crust stayed crispy through the whole eating experience. Beans were smooth and tasty; salsa was delicious. We were there at 1220, so it was a bit busy and we had to wait a while for our food, but it was worth waiting for! read more

Amazing Mexican food! The food is very authentic and the salsa is truly fresh. I would highly recommend this place to eat with family and friends. The taco salad was amazing and served homemade in a homemade shell which is enough for two. The cheese enchiladas were great and you get a choice of mild medium or hot salsa. I did a $140 GrubHub order from this place and HALF of the food didn't arrive. My kids didn't get their food. I called the restaurant and the lady who answered didn't care and told me to call GrubHub. No empathy was expressed whatsoever! She wouldn't event review the order with me. Bye they don't start making it until your driver gets there, and that took an hour. ON TOP OF THAT, the food we got was rancid. The Masa for the green corn tamales was rotten and stank so bad we had to light a candle. My husband even tried it to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was just stinky cheese, and it was rotten and he spit it out. We have visited Nana's Kitchen many times because of the locations proximity to our house. Each time our visit is hit or miss with service and quality of food. When we arrived on this occasion, there was a little bit of a wait. We didn't mind waiting, as many of the tables looked as though they might be getting up soon. We probably waited about 15 minutes before we were seated which wasn't bad considering it was a busy night in Tucson due to the rodeo. After we were seated we were promptly asked what we wanted to drink. Our service at this point was great considering how busy they were. When our waiter came back with our drinks he also brought fresh salsa on two dishes, one mild and the other hot. We ended up ordering a cheese quesadilla, cheese enchiladas, and I ordered the veggie tostadas that came with guacamole, rice, lettuce, and cheese. Since they put animal fat into the Redford beans and we are vegetarians, we couldn't order anything with beans (which was a little disappointing.) The food came out promptly and was really good. The reason for the three stars? The service after our food was sent to the table. After we were done eating we needed boxes and our check. We waited 20 minutes for this. At this point, the restaurant has begun to clear out so being extremely busy wasn't an issue. I will definitely give Nana's another try. We were driving through Arizona and we decided to stop for some food. I start looking for restaurants and found this place, I glance through the images of food items and noticed their refried beans has queso fresco on top so I knew they were legit! Walked in right as they were opening and immediately I felt like I was walking into a relatives home, cheerful greetings, that whole, "My casa es su casa" vibe. I ordered a margarita and chilaquiles breakfast, my husband ordered the enchiladas breakfast. Let me tell you, that first bite was heaven. Best Mexican food I've ever tasted!
