I dig this place. My husband is notorious for ordering huevos rancheros everywhere he goes. He said that it is quite traditional. Their potatoes is very good as well. Just make sure you go early on Sunday. They close at 2pm. I ordered white menudo. Comes with cilantro, lemon and bread. So delicious. I'm glad I ordered the large bowl. Ordered two bloody Mary's because you know it's Sunday. It's pretty big for the price which is always nice. read more

I learned about Nana's when we first moved to the Tucson area. Nana and her family make this place the most welcoming restaurant that I have ever been! The kitchen makes Nana's (Yes, there is a Nana) mother's recipes from their old home in Mexico. This is not a Taco Bell but great food and atmosphere. I also have found that Nana's sons, Marco and Javier, to be great friends who go out of their way in educating, selecting and trying Tequilas as they mix the best margaritas in town. We love Nana's. Great food, great liquor selection and great people. They really treat you like family. We have had them cater many family events in addition to having dinner there. Be sure to know that they have two red enchilada sauces; one very mild and one spicier and more traditional to me. Let's talk about the customer service, yes!! It was amazing!! We just got home from having an amazing time at this place. Javier was amazing, welcoming and quite helpful. Chips and salsa, OMGEEEEE, yes, again!! We were there as a very large group, took a hot minute to get orders in and food out, but, it was worth it! The amount of food was perfect, the taste was delicious, and pretty average on our dinner ticket. Nothing weird in food, no bay leaves floating around, which is what we have encountered in many Mexican restaurants we've eaten at here in Tucson! Good job and congrats on being amazing!!! The place was packed when we walked in. We had a high hope that this would be an awesome place since it's so busy. Nobody came took our order after we had been sitting for more than 15 minutes. It took another 10 mins for the chips and salsa were served. It's great that they brought two types of salsa; one is mild and one is spicy. The salsa were great. I tried both Salsas mild and spicy and their spicy red chili enchilada sauce and they were all on point and full of flavor. I ordered their Nana's taco plate. There are not many spots that put potatoes in their tacos, which I love. My nana put potatoes in her tacos all the time. The food was delish and I wish they Nana's had a location in PHX. She's nice, as is everyone else at the restaurant. Nana's Special *blank* is ground beef with potatoes. I don't like ground beef tacos/tostadas/etc, but Nana's Special beef is abso-freaking-lutely delicious! Chile Relleno is a bit bready for my taste, but I keep ordering it and enjoying it, soooo..... They offer a mild/mediumish salsa, and a hot salsa. One of them is not served cold, which is fine, except I like my salsa cold. Service, while extremely friendly, can be a bit slowish, so I don't eat there if I have somewhere to be. I eat there when I feel like chilling for a bit and reading the news on my phone. Best Chile rellenos I've ever had. Nana's tacos have potatoes and ground beef, really good. Chipotle chicken enchiladas are my wife's favorite. Javier improved the refried bean recipe and now they are the bomb as well. You have to get a "Marco margarita " as long as you are not driving home. Love this family and their food! read more

When I came here for breakfast with a couple others, everything was super amazing and delicious. Portions were generous and price was fair. I ended up trying the pancakes...I know that's not very Mexican and I actually would never order pancakes from an American breakfast restaurant, but I've had them in China once where they were delicious, so I figured why not try the Mexican spin on them. Well, they came out nice and with a crisp top layer just how I like them and not undercooked like the usual American breakfast places and I was thoroughly satisfied. Tonight I went back with a craving for menudo (yes, I'm cheating on my vegetarian diet), but it was not worth it. Probably 95% hominy no joke and any tripe in it was the size of a quarter. So yeah...guess that's what I get for not sticking to my diet! Bf's flautas were also nothing special. We'll be back, but probably sticking to breakfast next time. I am struggling to even give this restaurant one star. The food is horrible, tacos were bland, the queso looked like cottage chees and the quesadilla had a weird flavor and both were dripping oil. Everyone on shift was as the bar drinking for the majority of our visit. To make things worse my friend had to go to the bathroom to throw up and I personally threw up in the parking lot. Decided to stop for a T-shirt because the Nana thing is super cool and many folks call their Grandma "Nana", but no t-shirts here. So lunch it was. We tell Marcos were from San Diego so he hooks us up with a pint of Barrio Rojo Brew. YAY then on to lunch. The Chile Relleno was good, the beef Birria tacos delightful and Sonoran style Chipotle chicken enchilada was an interesting twist to enchiladas Swisas, but.... go for spicy on the salsa! No messing around here. This stuff was supper spice with much flavor. Loved it! Marcos went off menu to give us some of the client favorites. The queso fundido was awesome as an appetizer. After our meal Maria "Nana" came out to visit with us. What a delightful woman. Told her we wanted to practice our Spanish so we went back and forth. Love this family restaurant. We had an amazing meal! The restaurant was very busy, but the staff went out of their way to keep us informed about our meals. We had chips and salsa and some yummy guacamole while we waited for our entrees. We ordered a burrito and a steak entree. Everything was hot and delicious! The margaritas were fabulous. This is a family run restaurant and their care for their customers is really evident. They were knowledgeable about gluten free options and cross contamination concerns. Great job! read more

I have been to Nana's kitchen several times and the food and cocktails are always spot on. Today was no difference except for our host Javier. Javier was such a pleasure to talk with. He was attentive and explained the menu, explaining options to my special needs son. He saw that my sons eye lit up when he knew they had horchata, and brought him the biggest glass ever!!! The food was fantastic. My son had a calabacitas burrito, I had the tortilla soup and my daughter had a cheese quesadilla. All had the perfect seasoning and we didn't have to wait long at all. Quite honestly, I wouldn't have minded, as Javier was the perfect host and so genuine. It is obvious that COVID has hit the business hard. We were there early afternoon, and there was only one other family having lunch. If you get a chance, go have breakfast (on Saturdays only right now), or lunch/dinner. You won't be disappointed. If I could this will be a no star. First time here getting food to go. Unorganized and unprofessional. I ordered red menudo to go that's yet. She had to ask me 4 times what I wanted after already taken my payment and order. Charged me more for what it costs in the menu and the size portion is smaller than 16 oz of beer. After I got home there are no onions and gave me lemon instead of lime and when I go eat there we're only 2 pieces of menudo about the size of a nickel. Lots of hominy but no meat. If you want good menudo that's double the size triple the flavor and half the price check out taqueria Juanito. Won't be coming here again. Even the menudo that comes in a can taste better and have more meat than this. That's just sad. read more

We moved to Tucson a month ago and have been trying the various restaurants in the area. Maria from Bank of America recommended this restaurant as well as Molinitos. We'd been to Molinitos a couple of times and were satisfied so we decided to try this restaurant, Nana's Kitchen, for comparison. My son ordered the Tamales platter and I ordered the Sopes. Both meals came with Spanish Rice well seasoned with Cilantro and Refried Beans. I think that there was a hint of citrus in the refried beans. I have to say that I don't have great expectations for rice and beans but these side dishes were incredibly flavorful and pleasing. The portions for both meals were sufficient that two people could easily share one order. The hospitality was top rate with continual refills for drinks, chips and salsa. In defense of the competitor Molinitos there was one waiter Juan Carlos who was attentive like that but I believe he was an exception. Twice we had dirty silverware at Molinitos and were ignored by staff. We did not feel ignored at Nana's Kitchen. Prices are comparable. Molinitos patrons are more Baby Boomer generation or large families celebrating an occasion. Staff wears a tie at Molinitos. At Nana's Kitchen it is more casual, relaxed dining like a mom and pop restaurant with staff wearing graphic tees. So it varies based on preference there. Seriously, we are talking about paper napkins at both places. Nana's Kitchen has very interesting decor and great for conversation. The patrons at Nana's Kitchen were mostly Generation X. Many seemed to call ahead and pick up to go. Bar was well stocked and half the seats filled on a Thursday night. Parking a bit awkward being in a retail mall location with the Mister Carwash occupying most of the frontage space. We parked on the extreme end of the parking lot near the hardware store. As expected, parking is free. Certainly my number one choice. Reasonable prices. Tamales platter was $13.99 and Sobes dinner platter was $15.99. Strongly recommend. read more

The staff answered all my questions about the menu and gave suggestions on what to order food: you know my food was just okay. I got the green chili chicken Quesidilla. We always go to Nana's for the true tastes of Mexico. We always start with their wonderful chips and salsa. make sure you get plenty of guacamole. There are so many choices on the menu but I always seem to end up with the flautas which are delicious. The cheese is very high quality. I like to end my work week with a nice stiff margarita, which is perfectly crafted by the bartender. This family knows Mexican food, and they know it well. Lots of hard surfaces and minimal decor...so go expecting a lot of noise. Table next to us was filled with family (the owner's family) and they were exceptionally loud and close to drunk. Food was decent -- not exceptional but decent. Beans and rice and salsa were all good, and that's one way to judge good Mexican food. Portions were large. Tea was old but once I mentioned it she took it away and said we wouldn't be charged. Not a very pleasant meal. Food was good but the noise level ruined everything.
