Decided it was time to try Tio Bens.Food was excellent and reminded me of ol Mexico style food.Service was excellent.Luis did a very good job.I liked the decor much better than what was there before.Draft Mexican beer was expensive.I'll be back happily !

What a pleasant surprise it was to find this gem! The combos were delicious and such a large serving that my husband and I were stuffed and had enough to take home. We loved the vibe and the music! Luis, thank you for a wonderful experience! You were so attentive to us and for sure we will be back. It looks like they have live entertainment on the weekends so we will be back for that.

New place here on NW Side. Super excited! Ordered combo plates- service is great! Margarita is tasty & I got a skull toothpick Great place to check out for something new. Should become a new stop!

Hidden gym off of Orange and Thornydale. I've had t bone, grilled fish, and shrimp and everything was great. Live one man band on Fridays and Saturdays is a nice twist. Give them a try. Pricing is reasonable for the items I got. Combination plates around $13.

Combo #13

Everything is good! Food is delicious. Waitress is very friendly. We had combo #12 (Beef Tamale, chili relleno & ground beef taco) and #13 (green chili pork).

#12 but I got the shredded beef taco instead of a ground beef taco. Delicious

Birria Burrito plate

I can't say enough about Tio Bens!!! From the initial welcome throughout the entire meal the service was spectacular - our chips, salsa and water refilled, our food arrived hot and sizzling (fajitas:) in no time at all, and we were greeted kindly and felt at home. Went on a Friday and were thrilled with the live music - not Mexican music- but still lovely - old favorites sung beautifully while strumming the guitar. The food was also on point! The Birria burrito was stuffed with tender, flavorful meat. The chicken fajitas were scrumptious and a very generous portion! 2 folks split the fajitas and we still took leftovers home! I would also give very high marks for the enchiladas verdes. The meat (chicken and Birria) was tender, lean and such high quality - not a bunch grizzle which is sometimes served. The green sauce was bright and the beans and rice were above average. The beer was crisp and cold and a good price. The margaritas were tasty but a tad expensive. Please treat yourself to a lovely dining experience at this family owned gem

It's better than I expected. It's not the best I've had, but some nice touches that made food just a bit different than surrounding Mexican restaurants. Taco Salad was good size , shell crisp, light not over crisp. Came out with warm chicken, which was a nice surprise ,most serve it cold. Chicken little oversalted, but I am salt sensitive, others may find it fine. Nice balance ratio of ingredients to lettuce. Would have liked to seen fresh green pepper added for color and flavor. Refried beans in bottom and placement of shell. Beans just OK ,something missing in flavor though. There is plenty of chicken for sure. Guacamole had a nice lemon tang ,but would have liked better if diced tomato had been added to Guacamole. Was filling, so I could only eat 1/2 of it. Husband had ground beef enchiladas combo. Red sauce was good, had nice spice kick, and the flavor was excellent. Quality was generous. Salsa again some spice and heat to it , chip light ,crisp, fresh and lightly salted. Will be back, prices on par $$ with other places close. Service excellant , server pleasant, attentive and nice smile. Oh, I had water with lemon. The lemon had to be Myer lemon it was so good, tangy and refreshing!

Fun experience with great service and incredible cocktails!!…read more Great tiki motif that felt very original. Be sure to walk around inside to look at all the tiki mugs - so unique! The whole vibe is awesome - they even have a submarine room. My guy had a Painkiller and it was delicious. I was all about the spectacle of having my drink lit on fire so I went with the Tandoori Express. I was honestly not expecting it to be as tasty as it was. I was super impressed. And when the fire gets lit - watch out! I was tempted by the Spam Musubi but sadly didn't order it. We did get some Stoner Fried Rice to go and ate it when we got home. Really good!

We were split into 2 groups and we were fine with it. In the future, I would probably limit a reservation to 6. My table ordered 1 of everything on the menu. My faves were the coco nido wings (wings with coconut rum glaze), the Stoner fried rice, and the ahi wonton tacos (cucumber, jalapeno, soy ginger, Chubasco aioli, wasabi peas). For my drink, I ordered the Fogcutter (vintage favorite combines a blend of light rum, cognac, gin, orgeat, fresh orange and lemon juice, and is finished with a port float), refreshing and not too sweet. We implemented the 'take 1 and pass left" maneuver to share all the dishes amongst us. We had a great time eating and comparing notes. There were 2 bartenders and 1 dude running food. it's not a place to eat fast. You have to be willing to chill and take in the vibe. Half the people in our party had just arrived to town so it was the perfect, festive yet low key, speakeasy setting for our party. I got a lot of in-law family points picking this place. This was my 2nd here and both times have been super fun. Thank you, Cabali, for a memorable family occasion!

We visited better while visiting the other side of town. It was odd that they had tables under a…read moretent in the parking lot near front door. Hubby got shrimp Alfredo fettuccine and i got spaghetti and meatballs. Husband said "this is the best fettuccine I've ever had in my life" and I never get spaghetti when we go out because it never tastes good. We did the meatball appetizer. This gave me the chance to try their sauce and meatballs, but already knew I'd get my "go to" ... Pizza the sauce and meatballs were amazing! I changed my mind and got spaghetti and meatballs for my order! I ordered a half, because now I was full from eating so much of there appetizers! Good thing, cause even the half wads a big serving. This is a must try place! So good! Service and atmosphere were great too! Oh, and we learned why they had the seating under the tent in the parking lot... this place had a line out the door by the time we were leaving and all the tent tables were full!

Dominick's real Italian is not that real or great…read more The first red flag we ignored was we called before going to the restaurant and asked how long the wait would be. They said 50 minutes, and added us to the waitlist, this was at 5:40. We got seated a little after seven (almost 1.5 wait). Then we got seated. The garlic knots were brought out and tasted pretty doughy but good. They kinda remind me of the garlic knots you can get out of the freezer section at your local walmart. No bad things to say about the bruschetta. Two of my friends got the Caesar salad, which they enjoyed. My other friend and I got the garden salad, which was fine. My last friend got the minestrone and it was adequate. Then the most unfortunate part of the night was our entrees. Two of my friends got the penne vodka, it had no taste and reminded me of cardboard when I tried it. They both rated it a generous 4/10. To pay almost $30 for that meal was diabolical. My other two friends got the lasagna and to put it nicely, they think the Stouffer's frozen lasagna could beat it out. They also rated it a very kind and delicate 4/10. Lastly, I got the chicken saltimboca. It tasted like boiled salty chicken with canned minced garlic you'd keep in your fridge piled on top. Not sure my breath will ever smell good again. Instead of Marinara sauce I got vodka sauce on my pasta and I guess you could say no taste is better than a bad one? Disappointed in my meal to say the least. Very overpriced Italian food that I could make at home for a fraction of the price. Would not recommend.

I was greeted by the bartender who was SUPER friendly and made me feel very welcome. There were others at the bar that asked if I needed a seat at the bar. Very cool vibe. Sports bar vibe....with a family friendly place as well. The second bartender that relived the first one was..nice and friendly, but I did not get that "happy your here "feeling. I ordered the HH cod tacos with slaw, avocado lime sauce, and salsa. They were so good!! The blend of the fresh fish with the slaw....YUMMY. The fish was perfectly cooked. Crisp and not greasy, and so flavorful. I wondered why they delivered a bunch of napkins and ....a few bites in I realized. All over the face, and dripping down the chin....good!! :-) I got a burger to go, with added green chilies. I asked for rare, and I got medium to medium well. Sad panda, but it is still a good burger. I just really love to taste the burger at a rare temp. I also asked for a cup of the gumbo. My first bite was SO salty. I don't know if it was in storage or not fresh, but it was a salt lick. Could not taste the flavor past the saltiness. Good locals place, and prices are reasonable. I appreciate a Veteran owns the establishment and since I am a Veteran as well....I will always support Veteran owned!!

We had to try the deep fried pickles (excellent, they are spears not chips), but I had to leave most of my fries behind. Also be aware that the sound level can be pretty high making it hard to carry on a conversation without shouting. Service was snappy and efficient - our drinks were kept full. Atmosphere is bar-like with a see-through kitchen. My wife had the fish & chips - excellent. I had the Captain's platter which is a little bit of everything. The shrimp were to die for. The one downside is everything came fried in the same batter & oil, so everything starts to kinda taste the same. We'll be back the next time we get a craving for deep-fried seafood!
