It never feels good to leave low rated reviews, but oh boy this place was rough. Starting with the service, you could tell all the girls were frazzled, which I feel. You work by a university and are offering $1 tacos and $2 margaritas, you're going to be dealing with one heck of a crowd. Our waitress personally was able to keep her cool and was doing her best, but the hostess was becoming short with customers and evasive. I wouldn't call them out on service though. I'd like to see any of y'all try to wait on this crowd. The food definitely lived up to its name of being "americano." For a $1 you can't complain about the price, but I did wait 40 minutes for the driest, blandest carne asada ever. The other tacos were alright, with the carnitas being the best, but it was literally just tortilla, meat, and cabbage or lettuce. There was no topping bar and when we asked for salsa we were given the oddest salsa ever. I would probably rename it ketchup with chili seeds. Lastly, the drinks! $2 margaritas was our incentive, but we were given juice. We couldn't taste the alcohol, and each time we ordered a house margarita we got a different drink. One had no dressing and was watery, the second had a tajin rim and was sugary af, and the third was drowned in Lucas to the point where you couldn't hold the cup anyway without covering your hands with the stuff. I may try it again if I'm on campus, but for now I would wait to go until there's some improvement. read more

Timeliness: If you looking for a "quick lunch" I wouldn't recommend Americano Mexicano. I have been 3 times since they open, spaced out and slightly different times of day, and my experience has been similar each time. From the time we order it takes 25-45 minutes to get your food, even with just an handful of other parties. Food: The guacamole and salsa are chunky, but good. You have to pay for chips and salsa now (they used to be included). The meats are delicious and I've enjoyed the tacos twice now. Stay away from the queso. It was first kind of chunky milky water that we got after our food arrived (probably at least 40 minutes from when we ordered) and we sent it back and ask them to take if off the bill. They took it off and sent out another for us to try and it was creamy and looked better, but wouldn't stick to a chip. No spices or chilies - just a plain white cheesy mixture. We didn't get drinks, but they do look really good. Hoping to try those eventually! Service: The service was good and the waitress was kind and checked on drinks/how the food was each time. She apologized for the wait, though she was just waiting on the kitchen. Not bad, just not amazing. If you've been considering it, I'd say try it and see if you're into it. read more

These guys were at the taco festival in Chandler a couple weeks ago and they are amazing. I was looking for something non-alcoholic to drink besides water or soda when I spotted their stand. I love aguas frescas but I absolutely hate it when places make them from a syrup and so they are super sweet and artificial tasting. That is not what an agua fresca is supposed to be! This place does it right. I ordered the tamarindo and it tasted like it was just the fruit pulp mixed with water and a slight touch of sweet. I also got a fruit cup but unfortunately I ordered the small size because I thought they seemed a bit overpriced. Once I tasted it, however, I realized that it was worth every penny! I love eating fruit with Tajin but these guys took things to a whole new level. They also hand squeezed in fresh lime juice (at time of order) and topped it of with a dose of Chamoy to your taste. The fruit was all amazingly fresh and I really loved that they also mixed in some cucumber slices. The overall effect was an explosion of flavor with some good heat. Absolutely delicious! Stay far away!! My family and I went in the evening for dinner being first time to this "restaurant" and it will be our last!!!! We arrived at about 8pm, with the restaurant only having about 2 small other tables that have already been seated and eating. It started out okay as we had chips and salsa. The chips were just okay since a good amount were burnt. But once it came to ordering, everything else after that went down hill. We ordered our food at around 8:20. Slowly a few other customers started to come in but never coming close to have a full house. Yet, the other tables were getting their food before us. We kept asking about our food and we just kept getting "sorry". A few people got food. But by 930 most of us were frustrated and annoyed. We had got to the point where we were sharing plates and eating the kids left overs. When in a restaurant that's the last thing that should have to happen. When I asked to speak to the manager, she came out and only had excuses. One being that she works 48 straight and she doesn't have any help. When clearly there were 2 other cooks in the kitchen. Plus, why is that the customers fault? AN HOUR?!!!! For food in a restaurant ?!!! She then told us to come back in the morning that it'll be better. How? And why would we ever be back? I asked that we be compensated for such terrible service. And we got a discount of........ $1.90!!!! Yes 1 dollar and 90 cents!!!! Never will I go there again. And you know the best form of marketing is word of mouth!! Well guess what! I will be letting everyone know to stay far away!! To top it off, I order my son a 5 cup of albondigas that he hardly ate. So I asked for a to go cup and the server said he will pack it up for me. Well he never brought it back. So I left paying for a bowl of soup that we never really got. I visited here with friends on a Thursday for happy hour. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the smell - and it wasn't a good one. It smelled like a bathroom. I then noticed there were very few patrons, which wasn't a great sign. The waitress was kind and friendly, but the service was a little slow. I only ordered a margarita. There were complimentary chips and salsa which were good. The happy hour prices are reasonable too. I probably wouldn't return as there are better options on University Blvd. read more

I was sat at a table for 30 minutes before my drink order was taken, another 40 minutes before they asked what we wanted to eat, then another 30 minutes before we actually got our 6 tacos. Tomato was more white than red. Fries were cheap, and bland (could at least come up with a seasoning for them). Waitress was quick and non obtrusive and nice. This all could've been alright had the country music not been on the loudest setting during lunch, like it was Thursday night after 9. Long way to go for this spot. I was here about two weeks ago on a Saturday night. I was really excited to try the margaritas and ordered a house margarita and one of their special margaritas. The house margarita was tasteless and watered down. I couldn't even taste any tequila in it. The special margarita also was very watered down and it was served from one of those big orange cooler dispensers. It just tasted like flavored water. My friend and I had to order a tequila shot to mix it in with the margarita to give it some flavor. This place has a lot of potential since it's really close to the university but their drinks do need a lot of work. This place is great. They have really good food and fun, creative drinks! They have a lot of amazing deals (for example, on Tuesdays they do $1 tacos and $2 beers!) and always have a nice crowd. It should be called Blando Mexicano because everything we had was bland. PLUS, besides the rice, it was just barely warm. The rice wasn't even warm. Room temp and the most bland thing of all. It was a bad sign when I saw that they misspelled Negra Modelo on the menu. They used Negro, lol. I stopped going to Auld Dubliner years ago, mostly because it was kinda dark & depressing in there. Well, guess what? It still is. They didn't spend $100 to improve the ambience. Even the same old furnishings. My wife says it was a bad sign that Americano comes before Mexicano. We saw the ad for this new place that said it had Mexican style fish, so we went, love that type of fish. The menu listed a filet prepared "al mojo de ajo" which is a traditional way of preparing sea food in Mexico and it is wonderful. Al Mojo de Ajo is a butter and garlic sauce which the fish is usually grilled or fried in. (We have been going to Sonora for 40 years too). However, when we got it, the filet, although fresh, showed no signs of being grilled or fried, with just a hint of garlic, probably from garlic salt sprinkled in the pan, not one piece of fresh garlic, and no visible butter either. It came floating on top of a bed of Ore-Ida frozen crinkle cut french fries, not your typical Mexican fare. You could upgrade to beans and rice, but the beans were a puree of beans, again not your norm. Save your $3 for this one. Suffice to say, they should drop the "Mexicano" noun after Americano" and at least it would be maybe more accurate. read more

First timer! It was a big group of us going in for Taco Tuesday. First off, amazing deal-- $1 tacos! I really liked the vibes of the restaurant with the lights and the furniture. I applaud the waitress for getting all of our orders despite a couple mistakes here and there. As far as the food, the flavor was pretty good for the chicken tacos but because there was only one tortilla, the taco almost immediately fell apart. Look to getting 6 tacos if you want a hearty meal. Anyway, I wouldn't necessarily come regularly but I'd probably come again with a group of friends for Taco Tuesday. read more

I popped into Americano Mexicano while I was waiting for my chiropractor next-door to work down his waiting list. I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere as a whole, and our bill at the end was and awesome bonus. $13 for two beers and a tasty Michelada, and our server kindly comped us a bowl of chips and salsa, probably because she could see the hunger on my face and was fearing for her life. Overall I had a great little catch up with my boyfriend on a Friday evening. I am glad I finally stopped in after walking by this place several times on my way to the chiropractor. I noticed that they always have great specials going on in the evening, and Fridays black out was no let down. Two dollar domestic pints and fireball shots and the $8 Michelada of it was well worth the price. read more

I was born and raised on the border and I can say without a doubt that this is the most amazing Mexican food I've ever had in Tucson, and honestly the best I've had anywhere outside of my own home! The food tastes exactly like my childhood in Nogales, from the Albondigas(which are perfect) to the green chili pork, I feel as if I'm stepping into my nina Gloria's house every time I am lucky enough to eat here! The Raspados are almost as amazing as the food! Amazing drinks, both alcoholic and virgin, complete the amazing dining experience. My 21 year old loved her fajitas (great seasoning and the bacon took it to another level) beans and rice were authentic (5 stars). The wife and I had albondigas. Stopped in on Sunday (01/13/19) evening after the football game with a group of seven. The waitress who was also the bartender greeted us and stated all draft beers were $2.00. We ordered drinks and a few minutes later she came to our table to apologize and that beers were only $2.00 during the game. Regular priced draft beers start at $5.00 for a pint of beer. Had the ceviche which was very good, but overpriced at $16.99. Service was not very good, especially because the drink special was not honored. We paid the bill and went to a location down the street where pitchers of beer were $12.00, and the service was A LOT better. Ownership should really pay attention to their reviews!
