I've been to Nail Envy a few times, and every time I am so impressed! I remember I came here for my first manicure after Covid when things started opening back up. I was so happy to get in there after that long hiatus so I always have good memories of this corner nail salon. I was in the area again after a not great experience at another nail salon.. and I was so glad they had time for me. I ended up getting a dip manicure with aura design for fall, a deep red and it was BEAUFITUL! I wish I remembered the name of my technician but she did a great job. I got a mani pedi here with French toes and a design on my nails. I got no chip. The price was about $150 after everything, which was a bit expensive. The no chip however did last several weeks, and my pedicure still looks great. Inside the salon, everything seemed very clean and everyone was really nice. I moved to the south side of Chicago but the drive is worth it because she is amazing and timely!! Her acrylics sets are like no other! Called Sun morning and they were able to get us in Sunday afternoon. I was thrilled. We arrived and waited 30 minutes past our appointment start time. My husband was almost finished with his pedicure and they still had not started my manicure. I left and went to Red Lion for a delicious scotch egg and a pint. :) My husband is pretty easy going but said the water was lukewarm even after he asked several times for them to make it hot. This place is poorly run and it is such a bummer because the technicians do a good job but nobody takes charge or organizes appointments. On three separate occasions, I've made appointments and when I come in at appointment time, they tell me to "wash my hands and have a seat" and I've been waiting for 20 minutes up to 45 minutes for my appointment. There is no receptionist or site manager that writes down appointments or honors the time slots. What's worse is when you ask how much longer, they seem annoyed. My pedicure was so bad, she didn't get any of my dead skin on my edges and she also cut the base of my toe so low I was wincing in pain. I have been going to Nail Envy for a very long time. first it was just joining a friend for a pedicure, but then I joined another friend who was to be "mother of the bride" and she wanted the full treatment, and had tips put on, and I was hooked! Not the worst but definitely not returning. I had gotten a dip manicure which turned out okay; it was extremely thick and the guy (Kevin) cut my cuticle so I had a scab there for a few days. The price was fair, which is why I checked this place out. What is making me give 2 stars was the removal of the dip mani. I made an appointment on Yelp and arrived on time, only for them to be confused and deny my appointment. I showed them the receipts and luckily they sat me down. Kevin again was extremely rushed and drilled off the mani, which was painful. They then dripped oil all over my hands that got all over my coat. Oh, and I had to pay them $10 for this rushed, terrible experience. TL;DR don't go here unless you want bloody cuticles and an empty wallet. read more

I've been here a few times because it is close to home. It is very clean and they have great COVID protocols. However, two or three times now I have been with Sherry. She doesn't really do a good job. She always seems to be rushed and/or uncaring. During my last visit, she was very aggressive with pushing and cutting my cuticles to the point where I bled. She also spent less than a minute rubbing my feet/legs. I was very envious of the girl next to me who was receiving a nice massage from her person. To top it off, I think their prices went up. I came here on a whim as I was in the area visiting from the East Coast and needed a refill badly!! After some confusion as to whether they did liquid gel refills, the technician removed my old gel overlay and replaced it with acrilic. She was skillfull and worked quickly. I left with a fresh set of nails that looked 100x better than anything I'd had recently. No longer will I rush to get my nails done before my roughly 3 trips per year to Chicago. The staff does great work, but they have an ongoing dispute with the owner that annoyingly and negatively affects the customers. They purposely don't answer the phone even when it's not busy. When asked about this, the staff responds that they refuse to do so since the owner won't hire a receptionist. They urge customers to write negative reviews highlighting this so the owner will give in and get a receptionist. In the meantime, no one can make an appointment and they rarely take walk-ins. This nail salon is A-ok in my book. Not great, not awful, but it'll work if you're in a pinch. The pros: They were really friendly, and the shaping on my nails was done well. With normal polish, I don't think I've ever had such shiny nails! I also appreciated that all the technicians here are licensed -- I didn't even know that was a thing! The cons: The finished product is just not quite what I'd hoped. You can see the line of the two coats of polish along my nail bed, and the tips of my nails feel rough. On my toes, they didn't use separators so the polish is messed up on my smaller toes that touch. Also, the shower cap over the pedicure bowls (I'm guessing it's for quicker sanitation?) felt weird between my toes, and the manicure station had pieces of fake nails all over the floor by my feet. Don't get me wrong -- I still feel like I left with my nails in better shape than when I walked in. But Nail Envy felt a tad bit cheap and dirty, and I can get imperfect nails at home, right? For me, the jury's still out on an awesome Lincoln Park nail salon. read more

After getting my nails done the exact same way by the same person numerous times, I was surprised when she told me my acrylic fill was $51. The pedicure was so rushed and after I left and looked at my toes I realized there wasn't enough coats it looked like I had just done them myself. The acrylics were fine but when I left they were $20 more than I had expected given the price on the menu. She said this was because I got an "almond shape" and chose a "gel color" fine, but when I asked for acrylics those were the colors she told me to choose from and didn't tell me about the upcharges for either. I see this is a common occurrence in the reviews. I had made an appointment for 3pm on a Sunday and wasn't out until 5 when they close, and felt so rushed they cleaned all around me and shut everything off I felt like an inconvenience. I have tried this salon many times - as I live down the street. Fool me once...I should know better. I continue to book appointments, hoping it will be better and have spent hundreds of dollars for a sub par product. Since the change in management (many years ago), it's been a nightmare. I'm always told when I walk in that an appointment is required ... So I book appointments in advance, but when I arrive for my service on time, they don't have a tech to do the service. I wait. And wait. Then I don't get the most experienced tech and the dip/gel looks awful, breaks or chips within days. Last week my husband surprised me pre-scheduled appointments for pedicures for both of us and they couldn't take us both - even though we had appointments for 10am when they just opened. What's worse - 2 1/2 hours later I left with a powder/dip with 3 nails that look horrible and other nails chipped within days. My pedicure is chipped as well. It's only been 3 days.
