I don't usually leave reviews, especially not negative ones, but thought it was worth letting the company and others know -- especially since I saw another post that was my exact same experience. I came in to get a dip/SNS manicure and it took well over 2 hours. Manicurist forgot to add the base layer (which I didn't realize until the next day), and one full nail came off within 3 hours -- I didn't get tips, this was on my natural nails. I came back the next day to get that one nail fixed, which they fixed including the base coat. Nails started peeling and chipping that same day, and just one week out, I have literally only two nails still remaining. I've gotten gel here before with no issue, so I would definitely recommend just staying away from Dip manicures. read more

Sns dip manicure took 2.5 hours ( not exaggerated) and the manicure was the worst I have ever received. I have been to this salon for a pedicure before and it was fine, but I would not come back for a manicure, especially not dip. After the long dip process (A process I am very familiar with, and usually takes 1hr 15 min) only one thin coat of clear coat was applied. When manicure was finished, I was asked to wash my hands, clear coat came off instantly on multiple nails. Same day, clear coat was peeling off, the dip was lifting up and one nail was a completely different length and shape (middle finger, photo 1). When mentioned, she said it had a previous tip and an accident ( did not charge for 2 tips due to this), so the old tip was soaked in acetone and then left on partially? I did pay full price and tipped 20% regardless of poor slow service. Overall I left very frustrated and disappointed. I had to get my nails redone 3 days later, so essentially cost me double. I love Nail By Nail. There are at least 3 other nail salons within 2 blocks but I come here because it's the best! They're fast and super high quality -- my gel lasts for a month if not more. And, if I chip a nail or mess up my pedicure I can pop in and they'll fix it for free. It's bright, airy, and comfortable and they're always playing Netflix shows that I get way too into. Always enjoy going to Nail by Nail. I've only been to four nail salons in Chicago, and I feel like the service here is consistently good. It's convenient, and I am usually able to just walk in. I personally prefer OPI for gel, but there's also Essie and another brand CND or CNC gel nails. With OPI, my gel nails last up to 3 weeks, only a week with Essie. There are deals for nails all day on Monday to Wednesday (gel mani is $30 versus $35), so stop in if you're free those days. I haven't seen anyone leave with designs, so I'm not sure if they do any, but I'm also not interested in them. read more

Had a great pedicure here with my boyfriend (his first pedi!) this past weekend. Staff was wearing masks and there was nobody else there, so it felt very safe. Massage chairs are very nice and pedicures were great! They gave us a complimentary paraffin wax treatment on our heels and even a back massage while my polish dried! It was a speedy pedicure (~20-25 min), so if you're looking for a longer relaxing one, maybe get one of their upgraded pedis. However, for $30, the pedi was awesome value! They also have good polish selection and offer gel "no chip" polishes as well. read more

My friend recommended this place to me and I LOVED it. The technicians here are very professional. I'm always extremely picky about my nails. I ended up getting a no chip. The technician shaped my nails well and double checked if I liked the shape prior to putting the polish on. There is no polish on my skin. Everything looks perfect. The only thing is that I didn't get the chance to wash my hands between my nails being filed and the polish application, but other than that everything was great. I don't know if its the brand of no gel they use because they seem to crack at week once. Not OPI. Had to get them redone because they looked bad after week one-they seem to come off nail....like bubble off...and have little cracks....$30 no gel and pedicure was $30. It's owned by women. Having to go back after four days cost gas. The women are nice and it feels clean...I saw them putting the tools in and out of some type of bacteria killer microwave looking thing... They also include a scrub and parafin as part of pedicure...which some places like to up charge for those things... (my husband also got a pedicure here and Loved the chairs!) I made an appointment and they had about 7 other people waiting. My pedicure was 15 minutes long, so rushed, more stressful than anything. I wanted to do an upgrade for the better pedicure and they said no they were too busy. Never had anyone decline more money, but they were quadruple booked. A white guy came in 10 minutes after I had already been waiting in my chair and was started on right away with the upgraded service? I came here a few weeks ago with 4 girlfriends for pedicures and the staff was so kind! Great service, quality pedicures. Half our group was super late to the appointment due to traffic and parking and despite the staff's VERY justifiable frustration about this, they were nothing but professional and nice about it. Great value and great service! I've been here a couple times for a pedicure. They let you BYOB so it makes pedicures more of a social happy hour when you go with friends. Their standard pedicure is only $29 but it includes a foot massage, stone massage and a paraffin treatment! At the end of the pedicure, they asked if I wanted a shoulder massage which I wasn't sure if it was complimentary but unfortunately was in a time constraint. Making the Appointment: Very easy fast and pleasant. They were able to fit me in at my desired time slot with no problems. I recommend you make an appointment ahead of time. While they do take walk-ins they are extremely busy and had to turn down folks to honor those with appts. Parking: Street parking. No Pay to Park, which is GREAT! It is a very CONGESTED high traffic zone area, but I did go on a Sunday afternoon so parking was rather easy to find (RIGHT IN FRONT). Shop: Extremely CLEAN. Simple decor, nothing over the top yet pretty! They have a small little waiting area with a large sofa. Which as busy as they are, I'm thinking more seats/couches are much needed! Massage Chairs: Fancy and clean- with a nice high-end feel to it. It has a GIANT remote to adjust your massage to your liking, to which I'm happy to report ALL the options WORK, unlike other places/chairs. Nail Polish Selection: MASSIVE. Essie and OPI. They have cult faves and new (few) collections. I must admit though, I'm happy to have brought my own top coat and hand polish because their polishes are VERY VERY DRY! As for the top coat they use, its a random off brand I've never heard of before! Yes, I'm a top coat snob, it makes or breaks the lasting power of your main! I would like to mention how effective and smart it is of them to have one person whose assigned to assist all the nail techs. She is in charge of gathering all necessary tools, hot towels, paraffin wax, hot stones, cleaning stations, etc. This allows nail techs to efficiently do their job and focus on the client rather than trying to do so many things at once. It just made my experience a lot more personable and I can see how it lighten the load for the nail techs as well. Okay, now on to my mani/pedi overall experience! Pedi Exp: Fantastic! Sarah, my pedi tech was so sweet, kind and polite. She would occasionally ask if something was to hot/cold. She took her time w/o rushing and did an excellent job on my pedi/polish! I enjoyed the sea salt scrub, massage, hot stone and paraffin wax she placed on my heels! OMGEE! Mani Exp: Unfortunately Sarah did not do my mani. Buyanna (owner) did my mani, and she's rather quick but good. (Side Note: they give you a pretty decent massage on your hands, arms and shoulder). Overall: I will def recommend and continue to go. Damen st in Bucktown is known to have many nail salons but I'm so glad I came into Nail by Nail. All the employees are so nice, warm and very welcoming. They greet you with big smiles and even though they are working with other customers they all look at you and say hello. Unlike other salons that have a very strong chemical odor this salon has a good floral and spa like smell. To my boyfriend this is a huge plus since he's very sensitive to smell. Their massage chairs are so strong, high tech and very relaxing. Every visit I've been to I have never felt rushed or felt like they did a half-ass job. They take their time with you whether or not you're getting a manicure or pedicure. Even after you're done and drying your nails they come by and give you a head and back massage. Love this place! Found it randomly one day as my friend and I decided to get mani and pedis. The service was SOOOO good our first time that we thought they accidentally gave up the upgraded mani+pedi service. We were kind of worried when paying but it ended up being a normal service! You get PEDI -hot stone massage - regular massage - hot towel wrap - hot wax peel for your heel - they go above and beyond on removing your dead skin MANI - hand massage - hot towel - shoulder massage (although I did not get this last time!) They also have a stamp card that will get you a 10 min free massage. The ladies are very nice and almost all of them are very detailed and good. My friend did have a few iffy experiences - ladies not being careful or skimping on the extras mentioned above. For the most part this place is awesome. read more

My nail technician's name was Toya and this was the BEST experience I have EVER had getting my nails done. Today I had a mani and pedi for $36 and it was well worth every dollar plus. From the moment I walked in I felt like family, they made me feel so welcome and comfortable. They asked if I liked what was on television, Toya double checked the water temperature, they hung all my items and got me comfortable right away. The chairs are new and good quality, they have digital controls and they work wonderfully. During my pedi, I received a complimentary paraffin treatment and her foot massage was the best I have had. (I have been to at least 50 other nail salons) While I was letting my mani dry, Toya gave me such a nice relaxing shoulder massage. As I was leaving they even placed my clothes and socks and shoes on me, they were not letting me do anything but relax from the moment I walked in to the moment I stepped out. Now that's EXACTLY what going to the nail salon should be like. I feel so nice and renewed today and am so grateful for their service. Rushed through a pedicure even though it was slow, cut half my toenails severely crooked (even once "fixed" my big toe is noticeably crooked), caked on polish so much so that even after 30 min under the dryer (I always set a timer for 20 and she asked me to wait 10 more so not exaggerating) and the usual oil and baggie treatment they're so smudged they need redone, foot file x 2 both falling apart and surprise! My heels are worse off than when I came in. What a waste of time and $$, especially since I now have to redo them myself or pay someone else to fix them. read more

Wont be back. I have no idea why I have issues whenever I get my nails done but here we are again. I get a French manicure and decided to add some color this time. As a man, I'm still not all the way comfortable with manicures and a French manicure allows me room for a little color. I asked the nail tech to cut my nails shorter but make sure to leave enough room for the French manicure to show. My nails were a bit longer but I by NO MEANS asked for my nails to be cut this short. She started to cut and asked me if the length was okay to which I answered yes. She then though, cut more and filed them down reducing the length. Once your nail is cut there is really nothing you can do and when I stated I didn't want them this short to the second nail tech she stated "it will grow". So disappointed and in literal pain due to how short my nails are! There is polish under my nail and on my skin because there was barely enough room for the polish. Ruined my off day! read more

I love Nail by Nail! They do a great job with high attention to detail. I get manicures and pedicures there all the time. The shellac always lasts a long time and looks great - and they have tons of new colors which I love. The pedicures are amazing, they really polish your feet to be super soft and exfoliated, complete with a little paraffin wax (complementary!) for your heels. Prices are about on par with most nail places around here, give or take ~$3-4 but I've had the best experience at Nail by Nail versus other salons on Damen Ave. read more

I would come here more often if it wasn't such a long way from my place, but when I have the time, this nail place is my first choice. I always get a no chip for a mani, and they have the best selection of essie and opis available. I'm never disappointed with the color I choose. But what sets this place apart from the rest is their pedicures. My first pedicure here was a couple weeks ago before a vacation. I wasn't expecting all the perks that come with it!
