I am writing this review based on my experience on12/24/2020. Pros: good color selection with new OPI and Essie colors in the salon. Dividers between each station for Covid, everyone wearing masks, generally clean. Overall, Kevin, who did my pedicure, did a good job! (See photo). Took his time to clean up my cuticles and toenails. The massage could have been better but I still felt like it was good. The con that listed below was not his fault at all. I would go back only to see Kevin. Con: time management I came in around 2:30 PM and was told to sit at one of the pedicure stations after I picked out my color. I wasn't told how long the wait was. By 2:55 PM, my pedicure still hadn't started. I had gotten up to leave when someone said my pedicure will for sure be done before 4 PM (I had somewhere to be at this time). I said ok, thinking it was still over an hour. They turned on the water for me around 3 PM. My pedicure finally started at 3:05 PM. I didn't have Suzanne, but I noticed that she was distracted while she was giving a pedicure (calls, cell phone notifications). Con: weak massage chairs - I turned on the knead option and there were barely any vibrations coming from the chair. They could just be old, but if you are looking for a pedicure with a chair massage, I would skip this one. I think you could get a better service at the other salons in the neighborhood for the price you pay based on my pros and cons above. Their pedicure is $28.

This place is literally steps from my apartment but I stopped going to this place for a long time because of a sloppy manicure I received from Suzanne a while back. I didn't complain at that time. I decided to come back because I think Ellen does a great job. However, Ellen was busy with another customer. I should have trusted my instincts and either waited for her or go somewhere else. I was stuck with Suzanne again. 1. She did not do a good job taking my old no chip manicure off. I had to show her the spots that she missed. 2. She used the filer to buff my nails but she actually was just scraping the skin on the sides of my fingers instead of the sides of my nails. 3. She tore up my cuticles in two fingers and drew blood. 4. She did a poor job of filing my nails. They were uneven and I had to ask her to fix a few of them. 5. The manicure overall, was very sloppy. Edges and sides are not neat at all. This is all because she rushed. One of her regulars arrived during my manicure and you could tell that right after she arrived, she began to rush. The final product after three coats was awful. I asked her to just take it off because honestly, I was just really frustrated with the whole experience at this point. She said that she would take it off but she would still charge me. When I asked to see the manager, she said that they weren't there and that they never really come in. She offered her regular customer water and no one else in the shop was offered anything. She was unapologetic for any of my complaints and had another technician finish up the manicure. There are so many other nail salons in the area that I will not go here again! Nor should you. If you really want to give it a shot due to location or price, ask for ELLEN! To: Suzanne and her manager that never comes into the store (according to Suzanne), I pay just as much as your "regulars." I deserve the same service. Thanks

Unfortunately, while my technician was very kind and friendly, my no chip has chipped on four nails after only four days. I have a wedding next week and I'm going to have to get it taken off. I'm very unhappy as I've only been washing my hands. Do not get a no chip here.

Original color was too old to create the intended cat eye effect, so she did one layer of another color on top...

I let my nails get out of hand (excuse the bad pun) and was desperate to get them cleaned up ASAP. I stopped in at Ocean Nails because it is close to my friend's place and the prices were so reasonable when I saw the services offered on Yelp. This place is family owned and operated, which is great to hear for a place that has celebrated more than a decade of business in such a big city! 4 of the 5 family members were working (a Saturday afternoon) and were all able to accommodate the 5 walk-ins, myself included, immediately. I was pleasantly surprised Suzanne did my nails and said she thinks they may lose some customers to other shops nearby because they don't do fake nails... I really appreciate the difference that makes in cleanliness and atmosphere without the filing machines that create yucky nail dust! While there is a lot to love about Ocean, it was not cool. Literally. The shop lacked air flow and temperature control, which made for that awkward sticky thigh situation everyone enjoys so much. Also, I asked about price variation for the different gels and was told there is no difference, but then when I paid I was told there is an up-charge for the cat eye gels. I can get over the extra $3, but if you notice my pictures, there was an issue with the original color and she had me pick another to do the final layer. I think it would have been appropriate to waive the fee since my nails did not turn out with a uniform color, but with the lower overall cost here than elsewhere, I guess you get what you pay for ‍ Overall, I think this place could be really wonderful for anyone hoping to get regular gel mani/pedis. That just wasn't my experience on this particular day.

As always Suzanne and her team treat you like royalty. VERY clean, VERY sanitary, VERY friendly. My nails are always spot on! I have been a client for years now!

I've been to this spot a couple of times now being new to the city. The prices are unbeatable and there's not much they can't do. Suzanne worked on my no chip, French tips and they turned out awesome! She's super sweet and even helped me find almost the exact colors of what i was looking for. Definitely recommend! I always call beforehand just to make sure they have a spot for me but it's always the day of.

Painful infection on my middle finger from a manicure I got here from Kevin

WARNING: UNSANITARY EQUIPMENT (CAUSES INFECTION) AND UNAPOLOGETIC I hate to do this, but it must be done. I got a mani-pedi from this place on Oct 19, and within two days I developed an infection on my finger so bad that I had to take antibiotics. The infection is on my finger, and I got a manicure from the technician named Kevin. After I came back from the doctors, I return to Ocean Nail to let them know what happened, and (considering the amount of cash I had to drop on the doctors visit + antibiotics) I asked for a full refund for the $70 ($84 with tip) that my partner and I spent here for our two $35 mani-pedis. I was genuinely shocked when the managers told me that they could only refund me 15% of the money I gave them ($14). Mind you, this was after they asked me to take off my bandaid to SHOW them the infection, which is rude in and of itself, but which I was glad to do, cause I had nothing to hide (other than a gross finger). I tried to reason with them and explain that I think a full refund is fair, but the lady just apologized and told me that "infections sometimes happen" - which is...not ok. I understand this place has good reviews, but I think this is a legitimate risk that people should take into account and avoid this place if they do not want to risk an infection.

I went here for the first time today and first of all: so affordable! $32 for a full set no chip manicure? In Chicago??? I'm amazed. They also did an awesome job!!!! Were so gentle and precise. I will definitely be going back!

    Very happy with my manicure!

Excellent pedicures that last! Kind staff and very clean facility. No acrylic smells as they only do natural nails.

The last 2 times, after booking the text service reached out which ended up being the owner in a very attacking tone. All of a sudden the what I wanted was going to take twice as long and cost twice as much. I highly recommend finding a salon with better owner customer service, with all of the options out there, don't be swindled by Tracey and her long texts to your phone demanding she knows what she's talking about for a salon you're a regular at while trying to double your service needs. Horrible communication and customer service from the top down which is sad to see given the stylists there don't have anything to do with the way they are conducting their client communication and scheduling.

Right away he sat me down and started inspecting my hair (it was clear I hadn't been in for a trim in quite some time...busted!). He asked me what I was looking for and made suggestions for a cut and style. During the wash, he used a shampoo and conditioner that was particular to my hair needs. The head and neck massage was much needed and so good! Gaetano took time and care cutting my hair, and it was clear it's something he's passionate about. After a blow out, he even curled and styled it for me! The haircut was amazing, but chatting with Gaetano was the cherry on top. He's originally from Rome, and moved here for a better life for his children and family. We discussed our love for Italy and the best Italian restaurants in Chicago. Throughout the haircut, he gave me tips and tricks that I can do to improve the quality of my hair. I normally book a haircut with whoever is available, but moving forward I'm definitely going to be seeing Gaetano! Grazie!

I thought she was just putting there as a courtesy and did not bother to ask thinking she would still honor it if just a few months late. Oh boy No. She declined the gift card when I went in Mar, only two months after the expiration date. My friend just basically gave her $30 and she took it without blinking. According to Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009, Gift cards cannot expire for at least 5 years from purchase or last reload. Illinois even has stricter rule about it stating that retail gift cards generally cannot have an expiration date. If a card says it expires, that term is typically unenforceable in Illinois. I don't care how often you need to go threading your eyebrows, but 3-month expiration period for gift cards is illegal. I will be filing a complaint with Illinois Attorney General's Office Update: your terms and conditions on the gift card are ILLEGAL. I was not rude to your staff. You did not want to provide me the service so you asked your assistant to do my eyebrows to get me out of the door. I did not want to waste my friend's money so I accepted and tipped her well. The gift card is good for two services and you took it and said that's it. If I'd known this is illegal, I would have kept the gift card as evidence and refused your service.
