    This is chopped.

People with disabilities, DO NOT COME HERE! We had lunch here and requested a salad chopped for a disabled person and a spoon for her to eat it with. First we were told only if they had time. WE SAID, we have all the time you need. There were less than 20 people in the entire restaurant. They brought her a knife to cut it her self. They said the teaspoon on the table was the only option for her to eat with even though our soup was served with a soup spoon. When we spoke with the manager, he repeatedly interrupted us and told us the disabled person should have brought the salad to him because he is the only person in building who was allowed to cut the salad. When we repeatedly tried to get him to understand how offensive that is to ask a person with a walker, he said that's just how they do things. So to all the people with disabilities, DO NOT COME HERE.

I had some time to kill at the 6am hour so I thought I would get breakfast here. I thought this would be one of those typical greek places after seeing it. It's your typical sh%#y looking carpet place with lots of wood. I was seated promptly and my server brought over the menu with all your typical breakfast items. I asked to have a few minutes to look over the menu because I was not ready to order and a minute later she was back rushing me to place my order, the place was empty. So I ordered the two eggs with sausage patties and a side of ham. I like to get two proteins to get a better idea of the quality of the food being served. While waiting for my food a friendly fruit fly kept bothering me and kept me company. I can't remember the last time I was bothered by a fruit fly in a restaurant. This is probably not a good sign. My food came quick, see my pictures. The eggs were pathetic looking with flat yokes and the sausage patties looked dull like they were pre cooked. The hash browns were burnt looking. The toast was hard and not soft on inside with a toasty outside that you expect. The ham was fake and not off the bone but the best tasting part of breakfast. The sausage was bland and on the dry side as I suspected. The hash browns were bland and lacked that buttery flavor I like, I don't know what they were cooked in. This whole breakfast was below average but regulars kept walking in and were greeted by name. Over all this was below average for a greek place and possibly one of the worst greek places that I can remember. I used to think that if you find a greek place you can't go wrong, no more. There are way better greek places in Milwaukee to chose from. Lisbon cafe not far away is way better.

I chose the brunch sandwich which comes on a homemade rosemary biscuit and it was fantastic! My mom said her tuna salad sandwich was the BEST SHE'S EVER HAD!!! They even have jugs of water for you to take to your table which I appreciated a lot. Next time I'm in the area, I'd love to come back and try a coffee! My only negative is that our food took a very long time to come out. Although, it was definitely worth the wait!

Food: They have a large selection of breakfast pastries, including scones, cinnamon rolls, hand pies, and more. There are also some savory items, such as a rosemary biscuit. It was a tough choice, but when in doubt, I go for a scone, and they had a Maple Cinnamon one. I had it warmed up a bit, and it was delicious. These scones are not muffins in disguise, which means the texture is a bit drier and more crumbly--perfect alongside a hot beverage. For my drink, I ordered a London Fog Tea Latte. I was hoping to have it served in an actual ceramic mug, but those are only offered to customers who order drip coffee. That said, they made a very good London Fog, with a little extra lavender and plenty of foam. For my taste, it could have been a bit hotter. Service: Everyone who helped us was kind and helpful and gave us plenty of time to choose the perfect pastries. When ordering the London Fog, they explained how they make theirs and how they would add the extra lavender, which I appreciated. As mentioned above, they do not provide mugs for specialty drinks, using mugs instead to keep track of customers who have paid for bottomless drip coffee. I could bring my own mug from home, but I am not a fan of carrying around coffee shop essentials. Atmosphere: The building is nicely designed on the outside and sits on a corner with plenty of large windows that bring in natural light. It faces north, so you avoid the glaring morning sun. Upon entering, there is a short walk to the counter, where you can view all of the bakery and pastry items. A menu board above clearly displays the breakfast and lunch offerings, making it easy for first time visitors. There are numerous tables that accommodate small groups, and a fireplace with a couple of upholstered chairs offers a cozy seating option. Even after filling up with customers, the noise level was very good, and easy to have casual conversations. A nice visit and a place I would enjoy coming back to.

But once you know where it is, it's easy to find and worth it. I went in during lunch one day and it was quiet. The hours are limited, as they close early afternoon. I had a great conversation with the owners and cook, Gus, and his lovely wife behind the counter. I ordered the lamb gyro plate with the french fries - and Gus said, you can get fries anywhere, try my rice! And so he served up the rice and asked me to try it right then and there. I asked for my feta on the side, and again he was insistent I try it then. The portions are gigantic - it was enough for at least 2 meals. We talked about his background in ethnic cooking. I was impressed they opened up around the time Covid-19 was raging and they've managed to stay in business despite opening up during a difficult time. The food was good, the portions are generous, making it a good value for the money, I enjoyed meeting the proprietors, and I'm looking forward to returning and trying out some of his soups and other lunch items.

Gus clearly loves his job, and it shows in the food and the service. My wife ordered sausage and French toast, which was wonderfully eggy and rich. I got a chorizo breakfast burrito -- delicious, served with a perfect (for me) salsa -- medium heat and rife with cilantro. The place had just opened for the day and we were the only ones there. The place is large and clean; understated but inviting. Gus doted on us, bringing out some freshly fried tortilla chips for me to enjoy with the burrito and salsa. The seasoning on the chips was a nice touch. The burrito was humongous -- too big really, as we had no way to store it, but we're not going to ding a place for that, and if you can take home leftovers, it's two meals for the price of one. Gus is a gem -- a wholehearted, full FIVE STARS for this place.

While other restaurants in the district had hour and a half plus waits, we practically owned the place sitting wherever we liked. On event days they have a reduced menu. As they were slow, the kitchen gracefully allowed us to place a regular menu Crustless Grilled Cheese with Tomato Bisque order for our kiddo. I ordered the LP Burger with bacon ($14 + $2.5 - double smash, sharp american cheese, shredded lettuce, fresh tomato, shaved red onion, LP sauce, potato roll) and my wife ordered the Potato Chip Crusted Chicken Sammy ($12 - honey mop glaze, mayo, shredded lettuce and pickles). The bar has a fair amount of good bourbons and at decent prices for being in the deer district, such as the double neat pour of Stagg I had. There was one bartender/server for the place, but she knew how to hustle while still being super friendly. The interior could use some art on the walls, but is bright and clean otherwise. The food was delicious and presented very well. That bacon I paid extra for? Oh my goodness. Thick cut, perfectly cooked, so dang good. Usually I regret adding bacon but here it is a must. My 8-year-old kiddo, who is practically a vegetarian at this point, devoured her grilled cheese and half of the big bowl of soup. I never even saw my wife's chicken sammy, so you know it was good when it goes down that fast. Thankfully as our food arrived the place started to fill, as they deserve to be filled! I want to come back on a non-event day to try the shrimp poboy, their house dry rub wings, as well as on the weekend for their brunch.

Most of those spots only open for dinner, so I was thrilled to find that Bavette La Boucherie now serves lunch. My friend, a local, told me the restaurant originally began as a butcher shop. While that's no longer the case, the space still pays tribute to its roots -- shelves lined with kitchen knick-knacks, butcher-block counters, and a display of local provisions that hint at its past. Chef-owner Karen Bell leads the way here, and you can feel her touch throughout -- from the creative menu to the casual-elegant vibe. The décor blends exposed brick and warm wood with soft light and a friendly hum from the open kitchen. Our server, Matthew R., had only been with Bavette a couple of weeks, but his background in restaurant management showed. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and offered great suggestions. Before our sandwiches arrived, we shared a cup of pork and tomatillo pozole topped with cabbage slaw and a dollop of sour cream. It was piping hot, bright, and deeply flavorful -- the kind of starter that makes you stop talking for a minute just to enjoy the next spoonful. Having read rave reviews of the Korean steak au jus, I nearly ordered it, but Matthew suggested the roast-beef with cheddar since I'm not a big lunch eater. Excellent call. The sandwich was divine -- tender, flavorful beef layered with melted cheddar on a crisp, perfectly toasted roll. The beef-fat fries had great depth of flavor, though I'd love them even more if they were twice-cooked for that extra crunch. Being more of a gin or vodka drinker, I couldn't resist the Gin Old Fashioned on the cocktail list. It was delicious -- smooth, aromatic, and balanced enough that I happily ordered a second. Great food, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Bavette La Boucherie is a gem I can't wait to revisit.
