**July 2025: Wednesday Lunch Visit** While I was researching iconic food in Wisconsin I came across an item called Butter Burger which sounded so decadent and delicious. My friend and I were only exploring Milwaukee for a day so we wanted to make sure that we picked a good spot to try this region favorite. AJ Bombers came up consistently ranked on top for really great burgers. We came on a weekday so parking was pretty easy, but it is metered street parking. The restaurant is located at the corner of a large building and since we arrived right at opening we were seated right away. We ordered the following -Cheese Curds $9 - These were delicious. Nice and crispy, almost had an airfried texture to it so it tasted healthier than others that I've tried -Bomb Butter Burger $14 - The meat was very juicy and overall a good burger -Milwaukee Burger $12.50 - This was a fantastic burger and I think I preferred this to the Bomb Butter Burger. The flavors were more balanced IMHO -Tater Tots and Fries: The burgers all came with a side and I enjoyed both! They were freshly fried and served hot. The tots made me feel really nostalgic since those were things I remember eating growing up. The unfortunate news is that this restaurant despite all the accolades will be closing later in 2025. It's served Milwaukee for 16 years and while I'm bummed that they'll be closing their doors later this year I'm glad that I got enjoy one of Milwaukee's best. Was home for the week and decided to come to AJ Bombers one last time before it closes at the end of the year. I haven't been in years, but it was sad to see that they don't give out peanut like they used to and they were not all over the floor. There was a singular waitress there but she was nice and checked in on us. I ordered the Milwaukee Burger. I loved the onions on it and added tomato to it. I thought the burger itself was ok. Not too much flavor, I wish it was a little more pink. It would've been better if the bun was more toasted as well. I ordered onion rings, fried pickles, and cheese curds. Cheese curds and onion rings were really good, but the frickles were huge and every time I would take a bite the pickle would come out of the batter and I would be stuck with the plain batter alone. Decent burgers in the heart of Milwaukee. The tots are nice, hot and crispy and the shakes look amazing however as tempting as those shakes sound, we would be compromising our waistlines as we've already been indulging in the many tasty treats Milwaukee has to offer! Like the old school Gino's East establishments in Chicago, you can write on their walls if you can find the space. The main room bar is set up where staff can load up aerial bombers filled with peanuts that fly over a tracked metal beam to be dispersed table side to their final destination. Service is swift. We found a table within minutes during prime weekend lunch and the food came out at a decent pace. Pricing is not too bad for the area either. It's a fun place to be out with friends and family, catch a game and enjoy a good burger in the city. Parking is street side only. I did not see a dedicated parking lot. Glad we went for the last time as one of the waitresses informed us this location is permanently closing in November. I'm not one to leave bad reviews but the experience was so awful we almost walked out. I feel bad that she will no longer will have a job but paying customers shouldn't have poor service while she still has one. Her entire attitude was obvious she didn't want to be there from her facial expression to avoiding us after she finally took our orders along with the long wait to pay the bill. It wasn't at all busy in the restaurant either. I had to stand up and show I'm ready to leave to get her attention as she avoided eye contact the entire time. The only good thing for this visit was the adult milkshake which is why it received one star. Everything else AJ Bombers is known for was non existent on this visit which was a bummer cause we really wanted my mom visiting from out of town for the first time to experience it. No fun upbeat customer service, no cool quirky peanut deliver service. Burger and fries which is normally AWESOME was just ok. Bummed this place is closing as I loved visiting when in town and horrible final experience made matters worse. If you're in the area and never been I do highly recommend going to see the cool decor, have a burger, fries, and milkshake (add the booze if you're old enough). Hopefully you'll get a much better waitress than we had and get to experience one of Milwaukee great restaurants before they close the doors. read more

My friend and I wanted to try a Butter Burger which is one reason we ended up here. After I read an article that AJ Bombers would be closing down, it solidified my stance as there are other establishments that offer it as well. To start off - we arrived shortly after opening during the week. Only a few guests. Nice and quiet. That changed pretty quick though. It got busy and I felt bad for the one FOH staff member who was the hostess/bartender and server all-in-one. She was hustling taking care of the bar as well as the tables. There was at least one other staff member in the back of the house as he served our order. As for the food - I enjoyed both burgers (Milwaukee and Bombers Butter) along with the Wisconsin Cheese Curds. We didn't finish it all and it wasn't due to not trying to - the portions were generous. Had we known, we probably wouldn't have ordered so much. At least I know I wouldn't have. The food was served fresh and hot and the fries and tater tots were also hot and crispy. I enjoyed both with the sauce that came with the cheese curds. Gonna be sad if closing down is the fate of this place because AJ Bombers seemed fun and the food was good. This is not the AJB of a few years ago. It's going downhill because they're closing and quality has gone out the window. Very disappointing. We made a 4 hr drive to get our favorites, curds, Bloody Mary, and burgers and it was all well below average. Curds were not cooked enough, slider on the Bloody Mary was a slice of gross burger patty I couldn't even eat, the bacon on it was raw, and the burgers themselves were a greasy mess. The burgers are a manageable size--not giant, not skimpy; you won't feel hungry when you leave but you're not going to be bursting at the seams either, which is refreshing. I liked that your choice of sides includes a fruit cup. I was super sick of fried, heavy food by the end of my week in MKE and I appreciated that fresh little fruit bowl. A local friend recommended a great lunch, and he nailed it! Street parking was easy, and it was a fun overall experience. I enjoyed their schtick of roasting peanuts and then forwarding them via their interior "drop zones," a series of tubes that deliver the peanuts to your table without a server attending to it. The cool interior includes replica bombs and cool artwork. Their stools are very cool, with unique bottoms. Our server was brand new, and she rocked it. The restaurant manager was friendly and helpful. I loved my Classic AJ Burger. It was tasty and well prepared, and adding bacon to a big burger was a good idea. We stopped into AJ Bombers for dinner. My friends had ordered takeout/delivery a few times and fell in love with their food. On this occasion we were seated at a high top table and we ordered a bunch of appetizers to share. We got the cheese curds ($8), buffalo chicken egg rolls ($9), frickles ($8)and tenders with fries ($12). I also ordered their Almond Joy shake ($9.50) because I love Almond Joys and could not pass it up. This is an awesome place if you're looking to drink and enjoy some good bar food with it. The walls and furniture are covered in messages and signatures from customers created with sharpies and other writing implements- even the bathroom is covered. It's fun to read them all and see the history. The food itself is also tasty. The favorite was the cheese curds. I thought the frickles could be juicier, but my friend loved that they were on the dryer side without too much pickle juice. Our order of tenders and fries seemed a little small, plenty of fries but tiny tenders- my friends also ate them so quickly that I didn't get to taste them so it seems like they were delicious. I loved the Almond Joy shake, it was super thick and had a ton of coconut and almonds in it. Our server was also so attentive and made sure our waters were full and got refills on sodas for everyone. We stopped by this place after a fun afternoon at the Bucks game. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We were seated quickly as there weren't many people there at 2pm on Saturday. It started to fill up as we were seated though. I was sad they didn't have Spotted Cow beer on tap, which is one of the few beers I like. Apparently there's a shortage! However, we were recommended another New Glarus ale called Moon Man, which was served in a bottle--a little bitter but pretty similar to my classic favorite. I think I would've enjoyed it chilled a bit more. We of course ordered some cheese curds to go with our beer for a classic Wisco experience. I'm definitely a self-proclaimed curd snob since I went to UW Madison, but these were delicious--hot, flavorful, crispy on the outside, gooey in the middle, and of course squeaky. I'll keep this short and sweet. Visiting Milwaukee and stopped in to grab some lunch. They have these torpedoes loaded with peanuts which fly across the room. Thought this was fun for patrons. It is loud so brace yourself so you don't get scared. The service was hit or miss. Our bartender couldn't keep up the pace. However, she was friendly and engaging at first. We ordered a couple of burgers and cheese curds. Cheese curds were a small portion, which was a bummer. Delicious but I wish I had more. The burgers took forever to come out and what annoys me more than anything is when food takes forever and then it's not hot. I have the patience to wait for hot food but it wasn't even close. I asked for medium well and didn't get that. My girlfriend found black/brown hair in her burger and then a second burger came right out. That one was hot. I ordered some food to go! In my opinion, AJ Bombers has the best fried pickles. The crunchy batter made the bite so much more satisfying! I also had the Barrie burger. It was a new experience to have peanut butter, bacon, and a fried egg on a burger. BUT IT WORKED IN AN AMAZING WAY. The peanut butter added a creamy element. The crispy bacon and egg always make a pair. The burger patty itself is so juicy. The rest of the toppings just made it taste better. Fries were okay. The waitress was very good and attentive, we got our food very quick. I had the chicken tenders and I wasn't impressed with those as they were over cooked, like they were in fryer too long. We found this place after another local restaurant didn't keep our reservation... however, we were highly impressed and it truly was a perfect place to take a family! My kiddos got cheese burgers and grilled cheese with tater tots. My wife and I both got the Medusa Burger and thoroughly enjoyed them at the recommendation of our wonderful waiter. I have heard really good things about the burgers from here, and I finally tried one last night. I would not eat here again. Granted, I had my food delivered, and I know that plays a factor in this, but I also know that's not the only factor here. I ordered the Medusa burger. I'm assuming it was named that for the pile of onion strings that are supposed to come on it and that were missing from mine. The burger was so soggy by the time I got it, which was only about 10 minutes after it was picked up. I've had burgers with similar ingredients delivered from other restaurants, and they were never soggy. This was the messiest burger I've ever eaten in my life, because of how soggy it was. The bun was just not right for this burger, and it was a very bizarre tasting bun too. I did not care for it in taste or texture or not holding up with the ingredients. The tater tots were also soggy and fell apart as soon as I picked them up. They were very bland as well. I asked for a side of bbq sauce for them, and they gave me such a small amount that it was only enough for about half of the tots. In addition, the packaging was really strange. There was no box or container. The burger was wrapped and then placed in the bag and then the tots were just in a fry bag inside of the bag. I'm sure this was a big contributor to why it was all so soggy. Also, the amount of money they are charging for such a small amount of meat was crazy. I can get a larger burger for half the price from Kopp's...and I would enjoy it more. Overall, I cannot recommend the burgers here. You're better off going to Sobelman's. read more

I LOVE this place. I come every time I'm in town. *warning* this isn't going to sound appetizing but trust me it's 1000% worth the calories. The menu has changed post Covid, but I order like it's 2019! I get a double cheeseburger with a fried egg, over easy, and peanut butter. Yes. Peanut butter! I don't know what kind it is or why it works, but it freakin does! (Barrie Burger in 2022 terms) Don't be surprised if you feel compelled to order a second one. (I've done it before). Typically I like to start off with cheese curds. Sometimes I'll chase the burger with cheese curds, either way it's a win. Stopped here for lunch while in town. Great vibe, college bar look with graffiti on walls and tables, but clean and very good service! Ordered cheese curds to start. They were very good, but be careful the chipotle sauce has a little kick! We ordered the Milwaukee with fries and the Classic with tater tots. Both were very good and cooked perfectly! I never even had the chance to try the food as my experience with customer service was so lousy. Placed an order online, but called the host desk as my bank account showed an order had been placed but I received no confirmation via email or text that it had been received, when it was ready, nothing. Called the host desk to confirm whether my order was received. Was rudely told she could help me in 5 minutes and then she hung up on me. I gave her 10 minutes and called back, upon hearing my request to confirm whether my order was received she put me on hold...where I stayed for 15 minutes. Solidest of 4's you can get. This place is great and I always make the effort to go when I'm in Milwaukee. I ordered the Cheese Curd appetizer and was pleasantly surprised by the zing in the sauce. The actual curds were also very good. The standard AJ Burger was also delicious. Perfectly cooked and delicious taste. The fries however are just ok. I've been wanting to visit here for years. We were staying over night in Milwaukee and wanted a place fun for an early dinner. I searched and found out we weren't far from here and instantly knew that's why I wanted to go! It's very easy to access and it's street parking so it's super affordable. I love the big chair photo op outside. Although I'm short so I didn't do it. The decor inside is so much fun I love places where I can doodle. The menu is perfect with options for everybody. The food was absolutely delicious and our server could not have been sweeter. She gave us time to make decisions and put in our appetizer and gave us time to choose our main meal and even offered to make my milkshake to go. Definitely a 10 out of 10 and we'll be back the next time we're in Milwaukee! read more

It was our first time coming here. It was a little after 4pm on a Tuesday. There weren't many people in the restaurant during this time. We noticed that there were peanut shells everywhere on the floor of the restaurant and under the tables. It didn't feel as cleaned and tidy. The interior of the restaurant was filled with permanent markings by previous customers. Everywhere on the walls, booths, bathrooms. We were greeted after a couple minutes waiting and then seated. Service was decent. Food came out after ~20mins from ordering. My husband and I both got the bug boy tribute and after craving for a good burger for a couple weeks. we walked by this location earlier this week and was intrigued by this big sitting chair upfront. Plus being so close to a college campus, it should be good...right? So we decided to give it a try. What did we order or should i say, what did we not order... 1) appetizer's- 1) fried cheese curds, again, didn't have a squeaky texture and tasted more like mozzarella cheese, Perhaps that is how curds are here in Wisconsin-iDK, 2) fried pickles were a bit over cooked and was just ok 2) Chicken tenders and fries: basic and a little dry 3) Big Boy bite: literally their version of a Mickey D's Big Mac from the size, appearance and taste. 4) Turkey burger w/tater tots: good burger with tater tots 5) Black Bean Burger w/side salad: the salad was excellent with fresh romaine and the black bean burger was good- nice flavor not overly seasoned to hide the black bean flavor topped with fresh avocado slices. Heard nothing but good things about this place, however, after getting seated and sitting there for 20 minutes while 2 servers sat at the bar and ate, and no one ever even got our drinks was pretty crazy. YIKES! This place ruined us for the next two days of our vacation! We couldn't stop thinking about the burgers we had. Every time we walked past the location again (even walking to another restaurant), we'd go, "there's AJ Bombers..." Really good burgers and fries with nice, friendly, casual service. My only sadness is that we went during the covid precaution era and weren't able to be bombed with peanuts but hey, those burgers. Amiright??? read more
