Not sure why I never wrote a review when I came here! But better late than never. We came in on a Wednesday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. I'm surprised by how much I liked the food since I don't typically care for chains like this. The service was friendly, attentive, but not invasive. The food was good and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. My burger was cooked to my liking and they listened to me when I asked for extra onions. Will definitely come back! Place is not as big as I thought but luckily there were two open spots at the bar right away. Service was prompt CHICKEN TENDERS*** were good and hot. The chicken was very tender- no dryness at all. The portion sizes/the amount of tenders you get could have been at least one more WEDGE SALAD W/FRIED CHICKEN*** was delicious as well. Good quality lettuce. However it was not actually a "wedge"- it came in a bowl instead. All ingredients were radiant and fresh HAIL CAESAR WRAP*** good nothing too special about it. Awesome Smashburger and hot crispy fries. I love ketchup and Tabasco with my fries and both are at each table. The burger is super juicy and the bread is fresh and soft. Loved it! Also had a pumpkin shake that was amazing! Loved the location and the place. If you love a good burger, this is the place. Will definitely come back. My family and I stopped in after a long day of activities in Milwaukee. It was our first time and hopefully not our last! We all enjoyed our meals and they are good portions. I stopped by for lunch and the place was decently busy, but not packed. Unfortunately, it took a while for me to be noticed by several bar staff. AJ Bombers offers complementary peanuts, but they took a while to arrive at my table. I went for the classic Milwaukee burger with tater tots as my side. My burger was really excellent; The patty was juicy and flavorful while my tater tots were crisp and delicious. We had a reservation for AJs fun place. They have covid precautions in place. I had looked at the menu before and really wanted to try all the apps, so that's what we did and split a Barrie burger. Great portions for the apps, everything was delicious. I loved the sauce for cheese curds. The Barrie burger was super yummy also. One of my favorite burgers in MKE, called the CHEESE ON CHEESE ON CHEESE Burger! Recommend getting the tater tots instead of fries. Always great service from the waitstaff here and fun environment. Decent location where you can easily walk short distances to other bars and restaurants even in the cold. The spiked shakes are alright, but if you want a drink get their bloody mary's(Bloody Bombers) (if you like them spicy like me let them know too) or the cocktails. Two hours of looking up hundreds of restaurants in Downtown Milwaukee led us here for dinner and I'm SO glad it did. This spot had everything we were looking for: good food, character, Milwaukee-esq grub, and positive Yelp reviews. Mere steps into this corner restaurant and you know it's different. The writing is on the wall...literally. Past guests and patrons have left their mark on every inch of the wall space and I immediately began to think of what I'd put. The menu is simple and you order by checking the box(es) on a disposable menu. My husband opted for the classic cheeseburger and I went with a fried chicken sandwich. Although the portion sizes were fairly small, we left satisfied as I ordered a side of tater tots and Sam upgraded his burger to a combo for $1.50 which included fries. I also couldn't resist trying an order of the fries cheese curds (as I had never tried them before and our server Tony looked at me like I was crazy when I asked what they were). Wisconsin is known for the beer and cheese so I'm glad I experienced a staple in their state. The coolest attribute of this spot is that there are "peanut bombs" that can be sent to your table. I'm a huge fan of salted shelled peanuts and thus I was in Heaven. You have to check out this space for that experience alone! Is this place classy? No. But that's not why you'd come here. Okay so this was fun. Grabbed a burger that was recommended by the waiter. I thought this was written after visiting but sadly I didn't review it. I also snagged a bloody mary- um it came with a SLIDER and a Miller as a chaser. Amazing. To get the full experience the waiter launched the bomber to deliver peanuts to the table. Gimmicky? Atmosphere: fun. They have an old war plane theme and the ability to slide peanuts across the ceiling to different areas of the restaurant. Burger: Was it the most amazing burger I've had? No. But it was solid and I would return here to get it again when I was hungry and not sure what I want to eat because I know I'd get quality food. Fries: Very good. They were definitely the best part of the meal. Service: Good. I didn't have to wait excessively to get a beer or my food. I've updated my rating from 4 to 5 because a couple of small tweaks to the order makes a difference. Three things have moved this up the list for me. 1) ordering an extra patty makes a relatively small burger just the right size. 2) adding bomber sauce. I'm a Milwaukee burger fan (which doesn't come with bomber sauce) per my previous review, and adding the bomber sauce (with the extra patty) puts it over the top! 3) tried the cheese curds, they're amazing. Not a huge fan of the chipotle ranch, prefer the regular ranch but awesome nonetheless. I've realized that a few small tweaks to fit my taste does some pretty cool things for an already great burger! And can't beat the tots either...well done. read more

Solid food, solid service! We were here for a work conference so the wait was a bit long, but we didn't mind. The staff did a great job handling a huge wave of our company swarming down for lunch. For sure the BEST cheese curds I've had during my time in Milwaukee. Light, airy, and crispy!! My boyfriend and I had a date at the museum and wanted a bite to eat. I was craving a burger and stumbled upon AJ Bombers on Yelp. Parking will probably be the worst thing about coming here since this place is located downtown. Thankfully, we were able to find a parking spot quickly since it was Sunday and about 4/4:30pm when we got there. So right before dinner rush. As we walked in, we were greeted right away and was asked if we'd like to sit at the bar or at a table. We chose table and they sat us at a booth. There's a decent amount of things on the menu to choose from: appetizers, burgers, sides, non-burger items. I ordered a Classic AJ burger with Fries and my boyfriend ordered a Big Boy burger with Tots. We also ordered cheese curds as and appetizer and I ordered a Strawberry Pina Colada. Cheese curds: They were good. Alittle bit on the oilier side but still enjoyable. The dipping sauce was definitely delicious though. It has a little kick to it. We ended up keeping the dip for our tots and fries. Strawberry Pina Colada: When the waitress brought my drink out, I was alittle confused since it wasn't blended. I just assumed that it would be blended with some strawberry syrup on top but it definitely was not that. But when I tried it, it was really good. Lol. My boyfriend almost took my drink from me after trying it. Classic AJ: As for the burger, I thought the Classic AJ was alright. Probably not the best burger I have had but it would do if I was looking for a burger to eat. Fries were alittle too seasoned for my liking but my boyfriend enjoyed the seasoned tots and fries. You had no problem sitting the couple before us at a table then you tell us you can't sit us because you stop sitting people at 820. We decided to stop by here on our visit to Milwaukee since we'd heard of the great burgers and fun atmosphere. We ordered the frickles (fried pickles; not pictured) and the cheese curds as appetizers, and the classic AJ burger. The service was fast and pleasant. The fried pickles are unique and perfectly delicious (not soggy). The curds are rather addictive. No complaints about the burger and fries -- tender beef and crispy fries make this a solid joint to visit. Make sure to ask your server for peanuts! They'll load up a bomb (?) thing on rails with peanuts and launch it at a target near you. Upon impact, the peanuts are released down into a bowl. Makes for a great, fun atmosphere. read more

We came here before a Bucks game. Fortunately, we were able to park right in front and then walk across the Milwaukee River to the newly built Fiserv Arena after dinner. Everyone is trying to eat a quick dinner before a game so of course the wait times will increase. We had to wait about a half hour before we got a table. Luckily we arrived early enough to still enjoy dinner without rushing and still made it in time before the game. Anytime we make a stop in Wisconsin, it's mandatory we order some cheese curds, despite us having plenty of places in Chicago to order them, they, for some reason taste better across state line. They were lightly battered, very soft and tasted fresh. They tasted delicious along with their chipotle ranch. I would order these again and again and again. We also ordered a side of fries for the table to go with our meal. My wife ordered their Milwaukee burger. It came with Wisconsin Colby cheese, bacon and onions. It looked and tasted great. I myself, wasn't in the mood for anything special or gourmet. Just a simple AJ double cheeseburger is all I wanted. It was very tasted. Simple, yet still delicious. I don't like change I'm a man of consistency. I've been here a few dozen times now and really dislike change. Maybe it's the change of management or something else but I'm keeping at 4 stars for nostalgia. Service is always great, but tweaks to the menu and atmosphere are causing a disturbance in the force. Turkey burgers have been my go-to. I noticed a few months back that they disappeared so no I have to have real meat on a bun. This will however stop the rest of my family from dining at AJ with me. Now, on a recent trip they switched over to Pepsi. I don't like Pepsi, tea, or coffee. I drink enough water and really enjoy my toxic Diet Coke. Luckily they still have PNUT bombs. I think the lady behind the bar enjoyed sending even more than we wanted to receive. read more

Let me preface this review by saying we decided to carry out our order. And all the reviews you see are from people that decided to dine in. When we called the person on the phone was very nice and answered all of our questions. We were told 20-35 Minutes for our order which isn't bad. I got there in 20 25 minutes and the food was out already! When we finally got back to the hotel (3 Minutes away) and opened up all the food, it looked pretty good. But this is where it takes a turn... all the food was soggy! Because they wrap the food In aluminum foil It causes it to be soggy and disgusting by the time you carry out the food and decide to eat it at your table. The cheese curds were not cooked well and honestly a lot of the dish was just the breading without cheese! The egg rolls had the potential to be AMAZING.... but you can probably guess how it was based on my 1 star rating. We were not happy at all of this meal and would not recommend carrying out from here at all. This weekend away was all about junk/comfort food.  We weren't in the mood for fancy schmancy restaurants - we wanted burgers.  The photos on Yelp looked so good, so we dropped in for dinner on a Saturday night.  Great service from Cameron!  We were first seated at the bar, which we didn't want, and so I asked Cameron, the bartender that night, if there was a way we could get a booth when it opened up and he said he'd keep watch.  In the meantime, he gave me a sample of a beer I had questioned him about, and it was not bad (it had the word "frog" in it).  I ordered a Rock Island Iced Tea (which tasted a lot like Dr. Pepper - because that's what is in it), and my husband ordered the salted caramel adult shake.  Both delish!  I kept sneaking sips of my husband's shake - that salted caramel...yummmmm. Minutes after we received our drinks, Cameron told us a booth was ready for us.  Sweet!  It was cozier and more private in the booth.  I ordered the Cheese on cheese on cheese burger with tots.  Delicious.  I ate the whole darn thing.  My husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger, I believe, with onion straws.  He ate the whole thing as well.  The dipping sauces were great.  All around a positive experience! read more

Crazy delicious. We are hamburger snobs to a fault, and we have *NEVER* been to this restaurant before, so we don't know if this was an exceptional night or what, but my patty melt was off the charts delicious. Probably the best one I've ever had. The loaded fries I got with it were just spot on delicious. And topped it off with this "cookie monster" milkshake -- a blue colored shake with crushed oreo cookies and chips ahoy -- which was nothing short of miraculous. The shake was not at all overly sweet, the custard was delicious, and the inhouse made whip cream was perfect. The bartender was amazing - didn't catch her name, but she made our shake perfectly! My wife had a chickens sandwich version of the Medusa -- yummy! And our 11 year old had The Milwaukee burger. He loved his burger so much. Now for a special shout out to Sarah our server. She was just an absolute delight. She was so kind, answered our stupid questions about what she thought was the best food on the menu, very patient and accommodating. She is so kind, so laid back, and we will come back as a family and beg to have her again. You won't be disappointed. The environment was hilarious with the 1 gajillion scribblings and drawings all over the walls. If you have little ones, be aware you never know what sort of vulgarities you'll spot -- but the food is so good you're not likely looking at the walls anyway. :) The bathroom was very clean, even though it too had writing all over the walls.
