    meat jun and chicken katsu
    Marisa A.

Don't patronize this establishment. Ever since the new owners took over the food has gone downhill. The first time I ordered after the new owners took over the portion for the sides went down. So i decided to stop going here. But today I felt like eating korean food. I ordered a combo with meat jun and bbq chicken. When I got back to my office I had meat jun and chicken katsu. I called them and the lady couldn't understand what I was saying. I kept telling her that I didn't get what i ordered. Then she asked if i could come back and show her and after I said I couldn't come back today, she hung up on me. I know english is their second language, but she should've handed the phone call to someone who could understand what I was saying. Not going back there. I should mention that the already cooked bbq chicken was battered and deep fried and served as chicken katsu. See pic. Auwe.

This is a pretty popular Korean food lunch spot in downtown so except a line when coming during weekday lunch hours. I ordered the seafood soup with comes with rice and 2 sides. The soup was hot and perfect for a cold gloomy day. I really like their Kimchee but choose their daikon and kimchee cucumber this visit and those sides were equally delicious. Service is always pretty fast even when they are busy.

Had this for lunch they are located on Bishop Street in Downtown, Honolulu The portions are huge and the flavors of the BBQ meats and Chicken was very tasty. The Fried Mando was also very good with lots of flavor and crispy not soggy or soft The side vegetable dishes also was very good I had the shredded daikon, cucumber Kim Chee the pickled seaweed and rice noodles it wasn't spicy but the flavor was good.

Meat jun + Mandoo Combo $18 all for this little plate. More rice than meat

One of the many to go lunch spots located at bishop square. However, the price is pretty high for what is given. I ordered a meat jun + mandoo combo which is $18. Comes with 4 sides. The meat portion was so small. They give a small meat jun cut into 6 small strips and 6 pieces of mandoo. The mandoo wasn't very crunchy and more on the softer side. There was more white rice than meat. However, the sides were delicious. If I were to come here again, I would just get the vegetable plate that comes with rice and thats it. With what they gave, I feel that other bbq places provide way more such as tastys or yummy bbq. This location was just more convenient wise with working close by.

If you're in downtown area near Bishop Street close to Jack-in-the Box, this is a decent Korean bbq place. It's strictly takeout place. There's no sitting area. I got the mini meat jun plate with 2 choices: sliced daikon and fishcake for $10 and some change. They have variety of side dishes here. I came here shortly after 11am so it wasn't too busy but people started coming after I ordered. The service was efficient. My order didn't take more than 10 minutes. Meat jun came with a shoyu sauce with gingerly flavor. The sauce added yummy flavor the meat jun. I hope to return and try other things.

If you're working in downtown Honolulu and want some Korean BBQ, this place is your go to destination. It's located Tamarind Park in downtown Honolulu. This spot is one of my coworker and I's favorite lunch spots to go to. The service here is very exceptional. Between the two ladies in the front, they seem like they got everything under control which is a good thing because during the lunch rush hour, it can get very busy and you can expect lines out the door. This restaurant has no seating area inside, but there are a lot of tables and seats outside. The food here is pretty great too. I usually order their fried chicken and it is one of the best fried chicken I've had. I feel like they incorporate a little hint of curry in their batter. I could eat their fried chicken all day, err day. I've also tried their pork cutlet which also is flavorful. The batter/meat ratio is a perfect balance. Overall, this has been one of my go to spots in downtown and I definitely recommend if you want flavorful Korean BBQ

Go early because they get crazy busy at lunch with a long line out the door (which should tell you how good they are). After you order youll have to wait outside until they call your number since its not that big inside. I like that they take credit card. FOOD super tasty! Meat jun is well marinated so you really dont even need to use the side sauce. They also offer brown rice. Or you can get no rice and pick an extra banchan (side). My usuals: meat jun, kalbi, or bbq chicken SERVICE theyre pretty fast even if its busy Polite but not overly friendly

This has been my go-to Korean BBQ in downtown for years. I usually get the mini meat jun. Mini plates come with 2 choices of vegetables. The meat jun is soft and tasty. This place does get busy during lunch so if you're short of time, best to call in your order first. If I'm not eating back in the office, I would eat at the tables by this place. The tables are normal height but the chairs are pretty low. It's a rather odd setup.

    Mandoo kook (no noodles)

I had the mandoo kook with 2 vegetables and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. They gave about 10 mandoo in a seaweed broth that was very flavorful. Would definitely recommend for the price.

Meat jun and mahi mahi katsu combo plate (no rice) with 5 sides.

Nothing much to comment on. Had the mini meat jhun. Doesn't seem much time & effort put into the entrees. Sides could be better tasting.

Walking in, it was dark, cozy, smelling delicious and it was Full House. We were seated quickly with servers that were friendly & fast. The meats were fresh and tasty. The spicy cold noodles were refreshing, and all the Banchan little dishes offered lots of varieties and refillable. You know this place is authentic when you have bean paste dipping sauce and raw garlic slices. They are not trying to tailor to westerners. I really enjoy the Korean comfort foods! 4 stars for the food, soups, and ban chan, 5 stars if the service was great. Typical service you will get at a Korean spot but no complaints. Just gotta be patient for ban chan refills or if you need anything else, I don't expect much just happy that I get to have my Korean food. During this recent Saturday visit, I decided to go here for our late lunch, after hiking Koko Head Trail & Makapuu. It was about 4:30 pm, we were the only ones there, but it filled up pretty quick an and they do have many take out and Uber/Door Dash orders. My favorites here are the combo set, choice of soondubu (combination, kim chee, spam, beef, sausage, clam,) & either meat jun, fried mandoo, bulgogi, yellow corvina, seafood jun, or BBQ chicken. The combo use to be $20.55 my first time but now went up to $23.55, hence the increase, it is still a great deal, this meal comes with rice and 5 different ban chan. This combo was more than enough for the both of us. My favorite is the spam soondubu ( yes. who picks Spam right?! hehe) & the seafood Jun. Although it so hard to decide since all the choices are good, I will have to visit again for the other selection. The other half and I cannot eat an entire combo set by ourselves. I love the ban chan, especially the daikon & kim chee, so fresh and crispy! When I first dined here, I was surprise to see they give you a fresh egg to crack in your soondubu soup, I am use to the egg already in there. We always have leftover soondu soup which I take home and add to my Korean ramen the next day, so good! Support this local mom & pop restaurant, So Gong Dong has been around for the longest time just only recently I've discovered it. I will be back for the next Korean soondubu, ban chan fix!

For the meats, the beef brisket and beef toro were the stars, but the beef chuck was slightly tough and dry. They were also out of bulgogi, which was disappointing. The pork had a really strong boar taint smell/taste, which completely turned me off from ordering any of the pork. We had to ask for more meat and banchan refills multiple times. There was usually a pretty noticeable lag before anything came out, which was frustrating for an AYCE spot. They also seemed to be selective about which banchans they would refill. They would bring more of the dishes like kimchi and cucumber, but when we asked for more tuna mac, they wouldn't give us any. It also looked like there were only two people working while there were probably around 10 tables during the Tuesday lunch rush, so I do think they were understaffed. If you're offering AYCE, the refills and service should flow a lot more smoothly. It felt like they were paying more attention the tables that selected a higher tier of AYCE. Not a terrible experience, but definitely not as seamless or enjoyable as I was hoping for.
