Alakea Steak is a great mom and pop ran location. It is only take out, no dine in. Clean front area with the options to purchase canned/bottled drinks from their fridge. I guess it's been awhile since I last went there...i really wanted fried rice but only can get it until 11 for breakfast. So got the fried noods with steak instead. I should have looked at other reviews b/c the steak so manini. Thin and not much. Also suuuper salty...and I like typically like salty. Noods okay. Choke toppings, but deli ham kinda sliced meat. Not my thing. Rather have spam. I think I'll stay away from this plate from now on. Go back with the garlic steak plates...hopefully that still got planny meat and not as salty. My go to place in town for lunch, with their wide variety of plates to choose from at unbeatable prices, there's something for everybody. The delicious food and friendly staff is what keeps me coming back. The food is made fresh to its about a 10-15min wait so plan accordingly. I always walked by this place downtown and finally got to try it. The first thing I noticed is the wide variety of options and reasonable prices. Small hole in the wall and it's take out only. There was a korean couple running it. They were super friendly and efficient. The lady made sure I had everything I needed (condiments, utensils, etc). Stopped by for breakfast and got the sunshine plate. Got it with portuguese sausage and fried rice. For $8, it was a good amount and super satisfying. The eggs were cooked just the way I wanted and fried rice was good. They completed the order really quickly. Overall, I'll be back to try the other lunch options! Parking: It's downtown, so need to find parking somewhere, get dropped off, or walk from your workplace. You could probably park at the post office and walk over. read more

Located right at the corner or King and Alakea i think this is a great spot to grab a bite to eat! Since they're so close to downtown their line can get kind of long so best to go before noon or after 1 to avoid the lunch rush. I really enjoy grabbing their fried saimin and steak combo! Their portions are good and although the price has gone up over the years i still think it's worth it. If you aren't a huge eater their plate can easily replace two meals. Since covid there isn't any dine in which is okay, it was only really counter seating anyway and that got taken up fast and it got crowded when a lot of people were ordering/waiting for food. I see a lot of breakfast options on their menu just never around during breakfast time to grab anything...not that there is anything wrong with breakfast food in the afternoon! I used to work in Downtown, and the thing I miss most about working in Downtown (besides carpooling with my hubby) is the choke AMAZING lunch options. Alakea Steak is one of those spots I miss. I would call in my lunch from my office, order with the kind Korean uncle, then walk over to the restaurant while they're making my garlic steak saimin. The food is good and of course the steak has so much flavor. The only thing is that the portion size for the price is terrible. I got the good morning plate one time and I saw how little steak was in it. Price wasn't too bad for it since its like only $9. But the next time I bought it, I asked for extra steak and they charged me $6 for it. I thought with the price being more than half of the plate, they would give me a substantial amount of steak. But when I opened it, it looked the same as the smaller plate! I compared it to my friends plate who got the regular good morning plate and it looked exactly the same. There is a great selection on menu. Per male owner, you can order lunch at breakfast time. My order was pancake combo with scrambled eggs and Portuguese sausage. Pancakes are small size and moist. Good but the portion is small you may need to order two meals. I order the steak and garlic shrimp it comes with 4 shrimp and an equal amount of steak. With rice and lettuce. One of the better steak, shrimp plates in the business district! Their menus is kind of big. Like...they offer tons of options. A small, "hole in the wall" type place on Alakea (across from CPB and SBux), Alakea Steak has you covered all day! I usually go for breakfast. My coworkers go for lunch. I docked them a star, not for flavor or service, but because I noticed that serving sizes have gotten a bit smaller. Came back a year after my first review. Admittedly because no one else sells fried rice steak and egg combo within a block radius of my work place. Breakfast food seems good. A week before this review I got streak and eggs with fried rice combo. I bought it again today and the portions is noticeably less. Same two eggs, of course. But rice was really flattened down as if to make it look like it was filling more of the plate. I'll only come back here if I'm desperate for the convenience. read more

We drive by it every morning and finally got to go visit. On my first visit, I ordered a sunshine breakfast plate. Came with two eggs and sirloin steak pieces on a bed of rice. Although it is convenient to where I work I have had Alakea steak on two occasions. And every time my stomach would become upset and have the runs. Since my boyfriend moved into the downtown area for work, we're now able to enjoy having breakfast/lunch together and this is our go-to breakfast spot! Such a great deal for the price and amount of food. Already, he (my boyfriend) and his coworker are regulars, shop owner knows their orders before saying anything [LOL]. Little hint, for breakfast, get the sunrise plate and ask to sub a scoop rice for a hashbrown! OH MAN!!! What a great breakfast plate that is. I don't know how else I could possibly praise this shop. This place has been my go to whenever I don't know what to eat for lunch (I've worked in downtown for about 4 years now and I have ran out of places to go) the food is decent but they can get pricey for some items on the menu. I've come here for their breakfast specials numerous times and you do get what you pay for. It's cheap so not much on the plate. Definitely enough to fill you up for breakfast though. I suggest getting the garlic steak! It's a $1.00 more to get garlic anything. They have pictures on the walls so you know what to expect when you open up your plate lunch.
