I walked into Murphy's Paw for the first time a few months ago & knew I found the perfect pet store for my new puppy (and me!). The product selection is excellent; unique and varied. Customer service above and beyond! But the best part of all is that Murphy's Paw is a family owned business that LOVES animals and you feel that the moment you walk into their store. The owners and employees were very helpful in special ordering a dog collar for me. They checked in often to make sure order details were correct & kept me posted on arrival dates. My puppy is now adorned with her new collar, and I can't wait to head back to Murphy's Paw the next time I'm in town! The "Best of the Best" - period. read more

Loving this little boutique. Their items are definitely on the higher end and mostly out of my price range but some of their more natural/holistic treats, I can justify spending on my little pup. Baily was wonderful in helping me look for something for my pup's bad breath. She mentioned there is a list of businesses in downtown Pleasanton that are dog friendly and invited me to their monthly doggy meetup events which they host for dog lovers. They don't seem to carry a large quantity of anything but the selections are marvelous and comprehensive. I'll be walking by with my pup more frequently once he has his shots! read more

Walked in around noon on a weekday & was the only patron in the shop. The owner was talking to the shop girl & they looked up when I walked in, barely batted an eye & went back to their conversation. My question to them is: Would it kill you to smile or say "Hi"? I felt unwelcome immediately. I still poked around to see if I could find a pug gift for my Mom for Christmas. Indeed I did as they had adorable pug ornaments. I spent about 25 minutes in the store & almost bought an ornament for my Mom & Christmas gift for my dog, but the lack of friendliness made me think twice so I brought my business elsewhere. read more

This place is great- and I don't even own a dog (yet)! They have a small, but cute cat section, and the staff is always very friendly. It is a bit pricey, but it's basically what you'd expect from any boutique. It's definitely worth a stop-in on a walk in downtown Pleasanton. read more

It's great to find a dog store that doesn't just cater to little dogs. Having a medium sized dog... sometimes it's hard to find cute stuff. But I have gotten the best collars, leashes and durable toys here for my barking child. And I love their assortment of dog foods. My dog is on the raw diet and it's nice to find treats and other goodies that don't have tons of junk added to them. All of the employees have been very friendly and knowledgeable when we've been there and treated any dogs that have walked in like they were the cutest things ever. I haven't been to any of their social hours yet but one day we'll make it over there with our pup. Oh, and their cat section is pretty decent for a dog store. They have some different treats and little toys for the meowing variety. read more

I'm always amazed when I go into a pet store with my dog and they don't have a bowl with water out or even have a way to get some pet water. The first thing you notice here is three (count them 3) bowls of water by the front door. A bowl of little dog biscuits on the counter and customer service that matches the first impression. I've been bringing my dog here since he was 8 weeks old, he's already outgrown a couple of harnesses and I gladly come back to shop for a new one. It's nice to find a family owned, non-chain pet store that is fun, welcoming and has great merchandise. read more

I really like the products that MP carries. They have interactive puzzle games, high-quality chew toys.. basically everything that has a great reputation with good pet owners. Their selection of leashes/collars/clothing/accessories is adorable. Their food and treats are all healthy and high-quality. MP also holds monthly events, like the "Bark and Brew", and they always have a bucket of water outside for thirsty doggy passerbys. I gave them four stars because the store is REALLY cramped - so much good stuff, but not nearly enough room. I went to a Bark and Brew and it was so difficult to get around all the people, especially when everyone had a dog with them. Also, I know it is a high-end store, but the prices are a little high for my taste. read more

I've only ever purchased anything from this store twice due to the steep prices. I'm all for supporting local business, but not everyone in Pleasanton can throw $30 for a doggy shirt. I LOVE THIS LITTLE STORE! They were so helpful, when I needed to special order my German Shepherd's frozen food they were happy to do it, also at Christmas time when I wanted one of their metal "Welcome" signs in the shape of a shepherd they were happy to me me get one. This place is a real treat, and I love that big black mass of a dog that is always there, do yourself a favor, avoid the big chain store, (and the one's pretending to be a mom and pop, you hear me Pet Food Express!) and shop here. read more

This is our puppy's favorite pet store. He got his picture taken, was given fancy treats and we ordered him a fabulous new dog tag. Great little shop with a nice selection of food, treats, toys, beds and a multitude of other accessories. While most of the items are for dogs, they have a decent section for the kitties as well. Definitely worth checking out particularly if you are looking for something unique to pamper your pooch with that you won't find at your run of the mill pet store. read more

Murphy's Paw is great!! We are currently "sheltering in place" but needed some treats for our pup. We want to support as many small businesses as we can and Murphy's Paw came through. I emailed the store with some questions and what I was looking for and Dean responded quickly with photos and pricing. We ordered and paid over the phone and they met us outside when it was time to pick up at their Livermore location. They also added a couple of goodies to our bag! Excellent store, with a wonderful variety of items. We mainly come here for the high quality food and other treats that they carry, but there's also a very fun selection of toys. Also love that they carry jerseys and other sport-related accessories so our pup can show off her team spirit too. The staff is very helpful. Once, they did not have the flavor of food we were looking for, and were very happy to order it for us and called as soon as it came in. Very nice staff, and a cute selection of products for those of us who love our pets. It's a boutique store, so it's more expensive, but supporting local business is important too! I've never walked in and not been greeted, and there's usually a dog visiting that doesn't mind being pet and adored. I like coming during the farmer's market and getting a treat for the beast. Cute store but pretty pricey. The store reminds me of a Pottery Barn for dogs. The staff are very friendly plus they take a pic of every new doggie visitor. You'll see that pic rotate on a screen in the store. My schnauzer needs special shampoo and the lady highly recommended a $15 oatmeal shampo. It smelled good but didn't really work. read more

Cute little dog boutique in downtown Pleasanton. Even though I work in Pleasanton, I don't spend a lot of time in this area, but driving through Main St. to get here, there's a lot of restaurants to try and this store compliments all the other boutiques on the street. Good selection of everything for your dog/cat. We were in search of rain boots for Bentley when he needs to do his business outside and they had these disposible/reusable latex boots that look like small balloons for your dog's feet. Hopefully this upcoming sale will include the dog chew toy that looks like a bottle of Cristal but it says 'CrisPAW'. Shoot, if I can't afford the real thing, I might as well get this one for the dog haha. read more

My fiancé and I discovered this place one day while we were taking a walk in downtown Pleasanton. Me: A dog store! Him: Alright, let's take a look. Me: Ooh, look how cute this is! Him: We don't have dog. Me: But look! Then one fateful day sometime down the road we did get a dog and Bailey was so friendly the first day we checked out the store that we decided to go back now that we actually had dog. And as fate would have it, she was there again and talked to us about our new puppy and gave us great tips. The shy guy that our little puppy was, she suggested that we drop by the store frequently with Henry to familiarize him with a public place that's safe and friendly for dogs. He's nine months now and is shy no more! Mike and Melanie are wonderful! Mike is so friendly and does a great jobs with the once a month walks on farmers market Saturday 's which are appropriately names Wag and Walks. Melanie makes you feel at home whenever you enter the store. The end of month dog social, Bark and Brew, allows pets to mingle and owners to have a nice Friday "yappy" hour drink. Mike, Melanie, and the Murphy's Paw gang are a great part of the community. They help to bring together people and dogs! What could be better? Rating: 5 read more

What a cute little pet boutique. Set up right in the middle of Main st. in Pleasanton, this shop is sure to have something for your pup or kitty. I love the leashes (wonderfully marked down at 40-60% off!), the samples of organic shampoo, and delectable treats to try in the back. The woman behind the counter was knowledgeable when asked about appropriate sized treats for small dogs. Soft spot as they DO have a Giants "shrine" (case rather) on the left side of the shop complete with old bats signed by the greats and baseball cards galore. Yep, Giants fans are everywhere, even your local pet boutique. read more

I think it's a cute store and it's nice to be able to bring your dog "shopping" downtown. Dogs can appreciate this treatment once in a while and do have fun picking through the bins. I didn't think this could be true until mine walked through a long aisle of rawhides and kept going back to the biggest bone there was after 2 walks up and down the aisle at Petsmart, they know. At Murphy's Paw they have a good selection of rawhides and do not charge an ear or foot for it. We bought just one rawhide, it was kind of cute, sort of looked like a 12 inch curly fry and did a pretty good job cleaning our dog's teeth. She enjoyed it. It's not a supply store, but more of a gift shop for dogs. You spoil your dog with a gift or it's a good store to go to buy a gift for someone you are visiting and you know that they LOVE their dog like as if they were their children, just as you would with bringing gifts visiting a home with children. Lots of plush toys, leashes and collars, rawhides, bowls, and apparel, even doggles (goggles). With a store like Murphy's Paw in downtown Pleasanton, it seems to be a welcome or a sign of approval to bring your dog there for a stroll. read more

I love this Place, maybe I am Bias because my mommy work in the building and think the owner is great! But I also love this place because they make Down Town Pleasanton Pup Friendly. They have some really great Pet clothing, although my mom wold not normally dress me in Clothes, She ordered me a Security Sweatshirt! I am hoping to get the one that say "Chick Magnet" for x-mas! Large assortment of collars, leashes, toys, & beds for both Dogs and Cats as well as a novelty section with some great handmade note cards, or jewelry. Seriously if you come in they will Take a pic of your pup for the monitor that shows the thousands of doggies that have come into the store. My friends just got a dog and they live down the street, so this is the store they go to when they need stuff, but they also attend there monthly Saturday walks. So they invited us to attend the Bark and Brew which i think is the last Friday of each month, they serve a couple of beers on tap and wine. It's a big turn out for a little store in downtown Pleasanton, about 50 dogs show up for 3 hours. It's a good time out, and the owners are great! We usually try and not buy dog treats and other items as we stock up and support this great pet store when we attend the bark and brews. I think this is a really cute dog boutique... but that's also what I don't like about it. It's just so exclusive. I'm a cat owner and I stopped in to see if it was anything like my favorite pet store in the world Urban Beast (in Seattle) and it wasn't. While my favorite store is also a dog boutique it also specializes in the very best things for cats. It may only be on one table in the back, but they make sure to have the best organic catnip, the best treats, and toys. Murphy's Paw didn't do this. The toys and stuff were okay and the corner was tiny. I felt dejected and like I wasn't a part of this cool club for dogs. That being said, if you have a dog you will love it. There are quality dog things for miles and I think that this is something out of dog heaven. If I had a dog I would love it. read more

Melanie is a delight and clearly loves her store and all her customers, both 2 and 4 legged. On a recent venture in to Murphy's Paw, my son was so taken my all the dog toys that he abandoned his beloved teddy bear to play with all the neat stuff. Not only was Melanie understanding about him rolling balls across the floor and playing with everything, she picked up the bear and put it behind the counter for safe keeping. Shortly after we left I realized that teddy was not with us and a quick phone call conformed that he was safe at Murphy's Paw. I love boutique dog stores in general, even though I have no use for dog carriers or clothes which are often prevalent in these types of smaller boutiques (I have a corgi, he doesn't believe in either), I still love to go in and look whenever I come across a new one! Imagine my surprise then, when I found Murphy's Paw and discovered the lovely collection of high quality dog treats and toys! My corgi has been trying to disassemble his Jolly Ball from the moment I brought it home this afternoon! We'll definitely be back to check out the Bark and Brew! read more

I have bought a leather leash and a tube leash there despite of the poor service. I guess I really needed those items at the time and didn't have time to get them elsewhere. I purchased two dog jerseys from here. I asked if they could be returned if it's not the right size. She said it could be exchanged. Now the girl working was very friendly but I mentioned several times he may need an XS jersey. She did not once say it doesn't come in XS. I left with that idea and of course the jerseys are too big and Murphys Paw only issues store credit. This is bullsh*t. Had I known that wouldn't have bought them in the first place. Well , with much thanks to YELP, I was able to find this little Gem of a pet shop. I found it to be stocked with a great assortment of goodies, and several great gift idea items as well. Timmi had a nice time barking at a few fellow shoppers, ugh hes a barky little thing. The Lady working the store was very sweet and very helpful .. They have this cute thing where they take photos of the visiting pets which they display in large video picture frames. 3 tries later we got one of Tim looking forward.. I too heard about Yappy Hour, However I think Tim is a little too yappy to join.. So we picked out some tasty treats in a nice tin which he of course loves, we will definitely stop by often. by the way the AREA is super nice, lots of other shops and interesting looking food places. I went in this place for the first time today to get my little pup a birthday present. This is a great store with surprisingly good prices. You will not find the quality and selection for those prices anywhere- not even on-line. I would normally expect a downtown dog boutique to be out of my price range, but not Murphy's Paw. Nice staff but very expensive (seriously, I have found the same exact clothes for our dog at Tuesday Morning and Ross... just sayin~) I also realize its in P-town so those folks really like to spend money (because they can)... I think its a republican thing (but thats another post)... all and all only good selection for big dogs but even then have been to much better boutiques... given they are in the heart of PTown I would think they would offer more options for tiny breeds.
