I'm giving a 1 star simply because I cannot reach this salon. The website says to make an appointment by texting them, but I have tried to do that on multiple occasions, and I never receive a response. I tried calling the number multiple times as well, but it always went to a voicemail saying to text her, and the mailbox was full so I couldn't leave a voice message either. Pricier than your PetSmarts, but you get what you pay for. Here were the selling points for me: 1. Your dog is the only one getting groomed here. For my dog, this meant far less anxiety and shivering upon getting here. 2. Dog-loving and patient groomer. "Doggy, wanna sniff the scissors before I go in? Sniff away!" 3. Rewards for being the goodest boy or girl. My dog was given treats at the end of the appointment that I (the dog owner) was able to administer to him at my discretion. 4. We brought our doggo here for a nail trim and a teeth cleaning. The staff was excellent and was phenomenal with our dog. They allowed us to stand with her if we wanted and they were very, very gentle with her. Absolutely will be coming back. read more

If I could give Alexandra 10 stars I would! I have been taking my 4 little dogs to Alex for almost 10 years! Her attention to detail when she grooms my doggies is like no other! I am not the easiest client to please and a couple of my dogs have a bit of separation anxiety, but once they see Alex they feel the love and are calm with her. They are extremely comfortable with her and wag their tails with excitement when they are under her care. Alex has been able to do the perfect cuts on my doggies and I love each new style When I pick them up! Alex and Dominic at Sugar Paws did a great job trimming the nails of my anxious shepherd/heeler mix, Angel. She was obviously nervous when we arrived, but Alex and Dominic were both warm, welcoming, and patient while letting Angel get to know them, then gently but steadily guided her through the trimming process. I really appreciated the open layout of the salon and Alex and Dominic's willingness to let me accompany Angel into the treatment area since she can experience separation anxiety. They gave Angel lots of treats to help keep her motivated to continue and by the end of her trim she had relaxed and was her typical love bug self. Overall we had a fantastic experience and wouldn't hesitate to return for future grooming needs. Highly recommended! read more

She was so sweet to me and even sweeter to my baby. Redd is my second Standard Poodle and in my experience, it has been very hard to not only find a groomer who will do poodle cuts, but also ones that are good at it! What is special about Sugar Paws is that Alexandra and her husband spend one-on-one time with your dog and only tend to them. My Toby, grooming was fantastic, he's a very difficult dog to do and they got it done. He looked amazing.

I assumed that Alexandra was "the groomer". When I got there w/my pup, she was assigned to a different groomer (not the owner). I explained to the groomer that the previous groomer warned not to cut too short, because it would force a thicker coat on my particular dog. The groomer said, "It's OK, because when dogs get older, their hair falls out anyway." What?! My dog just turned 3. Not only did she cut my dog so short that U could see the pink of her skin, she got water in her ears. So in addition to a higher price ($145 vs $110) than my previous groomer, I had a $365 vet bill to pay! When talking to Alex, the owner, she said that from pictures sent upon her request that my dog didn't have yeast & bacterial infections in both ears. She's a groomer, not a vet. She didn't even offer a reimbursement for the sub-par groomer's mistake or a free next grooming with her...evidently the best groomer at the business. Beware! read more

I've scheduled grooming appointments with several highly rated pet groomers in the East Bay. Sugar Paws is by far the best experience in every area. The communication is excellent! One of my rescues (Pomeranian) had difficulty with groomers at every other shop and makes brushing his tail impossible for me. Sugar Paws manages him in a way that doesn't upset him and he is slowly accepting my efforts. We get text reminders, a report card, photos, and friendly service. We would follow Alex anywhere. Our 15 month tiny toy poodle has been going in for grooming with her since he was 5 months old and he has learned to enjoy his grooming appointments (as much as an anxious hyper boy can) because of her patient and gentle treatment. I am always impressed with how she is able to teach him to have good manners at the appointments while still giving his wiggly self a beautiful, clean haircut.
