We have been here numerous times over the past few years. They are usually booked ahead of time and rarely take walk-in's, so definitely reserve in advance. I was severely disappointed by the quality of the haircut, the cleanliness of the store, and the attitude of the staff. Most recently, I brought my dog here for his usual cut. The staff told me they still have previous photos I've sent on file. However, the owner warned me that if they find matted hair, there would be an additional $20 surcharge for the time it takes to cut matted hair. I reassured them that we will not need it since I double checked and constantly brushed my dog with care. I signed in and left my phone number. I also made sure to let them know that the phone number I left is different than what they have on file. Unfortunately, when the time came to pick up my dog, they did not call me and called my uncle instead. I had to hear from a family member that my dog was ready for pick up because the owner ended up calling them. Only the spa owner, with special instructions, does a good job of trimming pets down. I received my dog in the worst cut he's ever had, with bald patches on the back, uneven ears, and extremely cropped head. To save time and effort, the staff gaslit me into the matted fur surcharge. We took my dog to another dog spa in San Francisco for a haircut just 1.5 months prior to this most recent incident at Fur Pal. It would be near impossible for him to have matted hair considering I had brushed him myself daily and he had only just gotten a full cut and brush down 1.5 months prior. I asked to inspect the fur they shaved off, and they said that it was visibly matted. After I touched the fur, there were no matted parts. However, they did not let my dog out of the grooming area and stand with me in the reception area until I paid them. The final cost of this cut was $165 before tax and tip. Dog owners should also be alerted that they do not brush dogs here. By the time I inspected my dog, there were tangled hair in his ears and tail. Cleanliness was also an issue for me, as I'm allergic to other dogs with fur (and not hair). I found bits and pieces of another dog's white fur all over my dog's body, across his torso as well as in his bushy tail. The area with the grooming stations is infested with a mysterious mixture of pet fur on the ground which made me have a slight allergic reaction. My dog is terrified of this place more than other establishments because they're less caring and empathic when dealing with dogs that are uncomfortable at the groomers. At our other groomer in SF, my dog tends to be nervous but less upset. I brought treats in hopes of conditioning him to like Fur Pal, but the staff rudely turned me down and said "We don't do that here" in response to my offering them treats for my dog. I understand that they have a busy operation, but I was hoping to be treated in a milder tone of voice. read more

This is the only place anyone should have their fur babies groomed! Where do I begin? Let's start with the owner Wendy, she is the kindest and most caring business owner I have ever met. She truly listens to her clients and goes above and beyond to take care of them. I know people always say that about businesses, but let me explain why Wendy and her spa are true brand ambassadors! I suffer from panic anxiety disorder and my dog Mijo is my everything. It is hard for me to trust anyone with him. However, when I explained this to Wendy years ago, she has gone above and beyond ever since. Not only does she give me updates throughout his grooming, but ensures he is always safely secure per my requests. Mijo also suffers from horrible skin allergies and they go out of their way to use the right products perfectly for him. Her staff is incredibly friendly. They had experience with the dramatic and excessively furry Husky. This was the best $100 before tip spent. She looked 10 lbs lighter shedding off all that extra fur and she looked whiter and brighter. I was not doing her justice trying to brush her myself and fighting with her all while not doing a good job. I can't get over that I can finally see her butt which was dramatically trimmed down - poor thing carrying all that extra matted fur on her toosh. Booked an appointment a week in advance as they were pretty booked. I have a mini schnauzer and they took good care of him. Told them not to fuss over the pull of hair in his ears as my dog had a bad experience and doesn't like it. I asked for a schnauzer cut and they said they knew how to do it. Got him back and after thoroughly examine my dog I notice the neck area had rough uneven patches. Felt the they had the bandanna to cover the messed up patches on this neck area. She took a picture of one of the pictures. I spent time going over exact directions. Keep Hair long on top. Even asked if there were any tangles in her head area that would prevent the hair on top of her head from being kept longer than the body. I asked that because she said her body did have tangles that and would require it to be short. I ok'd that part. And reiterated that I wanted the head kept longer. I then pointed out we NEVER want her EYELASHES cut. She has had long eyelashes since she was born. It's her character trait. We have had 3 groomers - 2 before we moved and one here that all made sure this never happened. They have never been cut. I picked her up - her body was great. Feet great. But unlike my directions... her HAIR ON HER HEAD WAS SHORT. Not even a cute cut. I pointed this out - I was disappointed. I made a big deal that it didn't look good at all. I was met with LOTS of SORRIES. But, was I offered a discount on a clear mistake on their part? Nope. Just a sorry and immediately followed by the amount you owe is. Against my better judgment, I scheduled a future appt. Because hair grows back and we can attempt it again. I get to the car. And I notice - her EYELASHES are gone. This was the final straw. This mistake was inexcusable. I called and asked the woman I spoke too when I dropped her off - DID YOU CUT HER? Because maybe there was a loss of directions when handed off to someone else... NOPE... she admitted she cut her. Which made me even angrier. Eyelashes don't grow back the same way and speed. We are super sad by this crappy situation. I heard a little rustling and he comes back head down eyes closed and very shocked. "SKUNKED" He got a face full of fresh skunk spray. So I leash him right away so he doesn't go back for more. There is lots of wild life were we live and this was not the first time one of my dogs got into it with a Skunk. So at 8 am I began calling the groomers in my area. The third call Fur Pal told me to bring him in right away with his vaccination records. Fur Pals is located near the corner of Alcosta and San Ramon Valley Blvd in a strip center. After a short stinky ride we got to Fur Pals, showed them the vaccination records and filled out a short info card. The owner is a tiny Asian lady and was quoted $90 to get my dog clean again. Great just take him please! A couple hours later my dog N is clean. Just to give you an idea of how bad it was I threw away his collar, leash and the gloves I was wearing. Luckily Fur Pals were able to take him. They did a great job and what was a weekend disaster, the skunk emergency was bearable. read more

Took a 60lbs Goldendoodle for $120 and a 45lbs Bernadoodle (6mo old puppy) for $110. Tip: confirm the prices when you drop off your dog, avoid surprises. Pros: appointment only a couple of days out, speedy service, a lot of groomers working (so there's less potential for the only groomer being out sick, which happened to me in another place) Cons: all kinds of weird patches of inconsistent work (see two examples attached, there are others too) and the price being very different to what was told me on the phone. read more

I had given this place 2 tries but the 2nd trip was for sure our last. I have a cocker spaniel puppy and the first cut was decent and I expected it to be a bit choppy since he was nervous. The second visit was awful. I asked to go a bit shorter then last time and when I went to pick him up he was basically shaved. I was devastated and he was shaking. He also had one eyelash that was completely shaved off and I immediately called to tell them. Cocker spaniels are known for their beautiful eyelashes and if the person grooming was properly trained they would know to never touch them. I will never be back and I am glad I found a groomer who was able to fix this after 2 months of growing it out. Edit to Wendy: It does not matter how long ago I came in. Also, I know for a FACT that I never asked for my dog to be shaved down. He is just a puppy has a very healthy coat so why would I asked for him shaved. I also would like to point out how you did not say anything about the noticeable missing eyelash. These pictures were taken the same day as the grooming at your business. I recommend calling to book an appointment instead of using the Yelp Request an Appointment. I had initially put in the Request an Appointment but never saw a response so I decided to call. Upon calling they provided me their next available day (which was a couple days after I called) because they were pretty booked. That day did not work with my schedule and they accepted my request for a Friday instead. Took her in, they asked whether I wanted just a standard grooming and de-shedding. I asked whether that included her nails getting trimmed--it does! They gave me an estimate of about 2.5-ish hours. I let them know that she may not like the blow dryer, and they told me in that case it may take longer as they put her with one of those large floor dryers and they said they would call me when she is about done. I am not sure which they did, but it was pretty close to 2.5 hours. $65 for her grooming and de-shedding. Gave her a bandana with cats on it (it's cool, she occasionally acts like a cat anyway) Her fur is quite soft, her nails are slightly trimmed, ears are clean and paw pads are quite soft. When I picked her up they told me she's a really good dog. I anticipate coming back when we need to. read more

I send my dog in at 1pm because that was my scheduled time, but by 4:30 I hadn't received a call back about my dog though they close at 5. So I went ahead and drove to the spa, but I found my dog still sitting in the cage ungroomed. The employee was not only unapologetic about my dog's unfinished nature, she was also unwelcoming to my early arrival. After staying there for another 40 minutes, I brought my dog home still 2/3 wet with a crooked trim in the ear. I've never been so mad about a grooming experience for my dog and the fact that my dog sat alone in the cage for an extra almost four hours in the cage, despite our appointment time being 1pm. I'm never bringing my dog back to this salon, and if you love your dog and want the best for them, I recommend you don't either. read more
