I have eaten here a few times since my brother and his family live in the Evergreen area. This last weekend we had a boys weekend and so prior to heading out to Blackhawk to play at one of the many casinos there, we had lunch here to fill up. Started out with two apps: citrus grilled chicken plantain nachos, and the wings. There was four of us, and we destroyed the apps. For entrees my brother got his usual order, the Mexican chopped salad. One went for the black and blue elk burger with no side (told him he wouldn't need it and we were correct...) Two of us got the BLTA (avocado and arugula!) one with the Kennebec fries and I went with my absolute favorite item here, the shaved and fried Brussels Sprouts served crispy with lemon juice and Parm cheese. I loved the sandwich it was filling but not too much food- and the sprouts serving was so generous that everyone ate them and loved it. They have milkshakes here, I've had the house cured pickles before (love these!), the epic pass (pastrami based "Reuben") and a burger. It's a cool location right downtown by the river and they have outdoor seating with live music too. Didn't get our server's name but he killed it and we enjoyed everything we ordered and execution was perfect. I continue to talk about the Brussels Sprouts from the first time I ate here 3 years ago. This used to be my favorite restaurant in Evergreen but the last few times I've been have been disappointing. The portions have gotten so small and the quality has gone down. Their menu is great and inventive but it's hard to justify going there anymore. read more

The love runs deep for this place. I started coming here before I even moved to Colorado. I only take my favorite people here. Actually I have a lot of favorite people so I still need to go back many times. I don't even know how to describe Murphy's because it's rustic, but camp-y, but it reminds me of a upscale American dive or grill spot. It's Western-y since it's in Evergreen. It's a great little mountain restaurant. The food is burgers and pub-style but high-quality? They have tons of sandwiches, but also pasta and seafood. They just do everything right. Like definitely dine here when you're staying a cute Airbnb on some staycation or mountain get-away. Murphy's is right by the river and there's indoor and outdoor seating. I dream about their burgers and truffle fries and milkshakes. Also, raise your standards when you come here because when I told my roommates about the milkshakes prior to going. I think they all just thought "meh" (not trusting me!) but then ordered one upon seeing them IRL. And I must say, their pine needle cocktail is my most favorite of all time. Before I moved here, I emailed the restaurant begging them to give me the recipe. They didn't. But jokes on them becuase I moved here. Well. LOL I guess I still didn't get it so I still have to drive 30+ min to get one, but it's so worth it. It tastes like the forest in the best way possible. 3.5 stars more likely, but rounding down due to mandatory 22% (!) service charge for "large" party of... 4 adults and 2 kids. Uh, what? Never seen/heard of that before. That translated to a $32+ tip on a $149 bill. Service, food, and ambiance did NOT merit 22%. Bleh. Food: weak brussels sprouts "petals" AKA half a bowl of luke-warm brussels sprouts shavings... not whole baked/broiled/fried/prepared in any way at all. Imagine brussels sprout dustings, or cast-offs, and you have a good sense of it. Burgers = quite good, but small patties. Kids mac and cheese very good. Chinese chicken salad OK. Salmon was excellent, definitely best dish by far. Service: "Overworked" is a good term I've seen in other reviews... rushed, weak attempt at being friendly, present at beginning, and then non-existent apart from a token "how's everything" comment. Not exactly sincere or inviting. Ambiance: OK. Nice to have a big table off to the side. Interior was loud and dirty. Bathroom had a loooong wait, and then was _gross_ once inside. Best idea was for the Yelp waitlist... nice to not wait. Probably won't return given the whole experience. read more

Love this quaint spot in downtown Evergreen. The staff is wonderful, the ambiance is mountain lodge meets cabin rustic, meets upscale dining... Just really neat atmosphere, and that's largely due to the fact that this place is a renovated OLD original downtown Evergreen building. I think it used to be a small barn or something back in old timey gold rush days. Anyhow, the wife and I were on our way down the canyon to see a show at Red Rocks (about 15 minutes from restaurant to turn-off for the venue) and stopped in for dinner here first. She had the fish special, I had 'The Epic Pass', which is a fantastic pastrami sandwich. All in all, great experience! read more

After a long hike on 3 sisters, we stopped in on a Sunday for brunch. Great views of the water if you sit outside. The servers were really good and did their best to help out. My friends RAVED about the street tacos and they did look yummy. I had the Cali Style burger - oven roasted tomato, red onion jam, Havarti cheese, avocado, fresh baby arugula, and aged balsamic drizzle it was good, but the meat needed seasoning big time. We also got the Chili Cheese Chingadera which are sweet potato tater tots with Evergreen smoked pork green chili and shredded Mexican cheese, my friends thought it was amazing. I thought it had good flavor, but it isn't something I would order. Overall, it was a good experience with decent food. Beware though, parking is non existent and you MUST have a reservation. read more

I spent an hour and 20 minutes in this establishment today and never received my food. Our waiter turned out to be the bartender as well, and after taking our order, evidently forgot to put in the food order while doing nothing but making drinks until we complained about not receiving our food before 35 minutes later, despite others all around us receiving their food. We were told, "the order was lost." Not by our waiter mind you, but by another waiter we had to flag down in order to find out what had happened because our waiter never came back to our table to tell us what was happening. Even after he was told of the problem by his fellow waiter, he never once came over to explain. In fact, after being told of the problem, he never made eye contact with us. We were told by the waiter who actually looked into the order for us, that the food was being rushed & on its way. After Fifteen minutes and no food still, we advised him we were leaving. Absolutely the worst service I've had in many years ...even pre-Covid. The last time I gave a restaurant less than three stars, was over 10 years ago. This one star is a first for me... but well-deserved! read more

My husband and I ventured over to Evergreen for a quick weekend getaway. Murphy's was our first dinner stop. Overall- great service, Covid protocols were abided by, and the food was pretty solid! To kick us off, we ordered the Chili Cheese Chingadera with tater tots. Delightful! For dinner, I got the Pecan Dried Black Cherry Crusted Scottish Salmon and my husband ordered the BLT sandwich with French fries. Aside from hearing endless complaints about "the lack of bacon" on his BLT, our meal was quite good. We ended our babymoon meal with the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding for dessert. Very good but very filling. If you find yourself in Evergreen, Murphy's Mountain Grill is a great little spot. Enjoy! read more

We were visiting Colorado on vacation with our Golden Retriever who was on his first road trip from Kansas City and he was doing extremely well. My husband said to me he wanted to sit outside overlooking a creek for lunch and I found Murphy's Mountain Grill to fit the bill. We sat outside on the deck overlooking the creek. We enjoyed their pasta special of the day and Ahi Tuna starter as well as a couple of cocktails. All was very good; although the pasta was spicier than indicated which why this isn't 5 stars. I'm reviewing food only as the service/ambiance was great. I ordered the shrimp tacos that came highly recommended. When I got them, I was extremely disappointed to see that there was only one and a half tiny shrimps on each taco. (4.5 shrimps in total) for a rather expensive plate ($17 for the plate ~ $4/shrimp.) Additionally, they served a slaw on the side which was undressed and ultimately was just cabbage. 0/10 would not recommend the shrimp tacos. read more

We went here on an overnight in Evergreen for our anniversary, and we seriously loved our experience. The place was hopping, and so we ended up sitting at the bar, where the bartender was incredibly busy, but so kind and patient in answering all our questions. They were out of a lot of items at that time (kind of late), but that just made our decision easier! We had one heck of a great burger with sweet potato tots, and shrimp tacos. Loved it all. We have ate here several times and it's knocked it out of the park. This may be my favorite spot in Evergreen (with Cactus Jacks as the challenger). They have got some of the best burgers around. The plantain nachos are an absolute must. The solitude bowl is my favorite drinks and I can't resist getting at least two every time we come here. It can get busy here quick, so join the waitlist when you can. Outside seating here is limited but fantastic on a nice day. This is our favorite spot to bring visitors. read more

So so happy we stumbled upon this place. Amaaaazing food, great service as well as a lovely patio right along the creek. We started with the wings, sangria and Bloody Mary - highly recommend all of these and the wings were so sticky and delicious, also very unique. Ordered the Mexican Chopped Salad for me, beautiful presentation and could honestly eat this every day. My bf got the Murphy Burger and was so so pleased with it, my photo does not do it justice. He loved the Tropical Depression cocktail too. Kelly was our server and she was fantastic. Overall, this is the best new spot we've eaten at in a LONG time. The reviews are not exaggerated, this place is such a gem! Normally you wouldn't expect a restaurant in a little mountain town to have creative dishes, but Murphy's is just that. Sure it's a burger place, but it's menu is super creative and globally inspired. We stopped in for lunch on a Monday afternoon and it was busy! We shared their version of poutine (Chingadera) and added their house-made pickles on the side. If you love dill pickles, these are up there with some of the best I've ever had--extra tart and super crunchy. The Chingadera was pretty decent, with the pickled red onions setting it off. They do pickles right at this place . I had the Epic Pass -- a pastrami Reuben -- with Brussel sprouts on the side and my boyfriend had the Navajo burger. The Epic Pass was a flavor bomb, borderline tops salty, but I can't imagine anything better after a long day's hike when your taste buds are creaming for sustenance and flavor I loved the whole grain mustard and the horseradish sauce. The Navajo burger was definitely messy. The actual burger part of it was perfectly charred and meaty, but would be better served if the green Chile was on the side-- a la French dip. My bf also ordered a "Black Lavender" cocktail--Bear Creek Wheat Vodka, Muddled Blackberries, Lime, Lavender Flower, Lemongrass, Champagne. It sweet, slightly bitter, with a strong lemongrass finish. I honestly am not sure if this restaurant even deserves 1 star. We went today and while they had people at tables, but by no means was it crowded. We waited for about 5+ mins to be seated. The waitress let us know that there would be 22% gratuity since there was 6 of us. We waited about 10-15 mins for our drink order. Then waited about 15 minutes until our order was taken. It took almost an hour to get our food. The plates looked really good. But my cali burger and my husbands Mountain burger were raw. As in the outside looked cool but the inside looked like beef tartare. It was disgusting. It took another 15+ mins to wave someone down to tell them. They did remake our meals but everyone else had been done eating and were ready to leave. No one was even remotely apologetic. If anything they just seemed annoyed to be working. Would not recommend even with the limited choices in Evergreen nor will we ever go back. $18 for a raw burger that takes over an hour to get, um no thanks! read more

Nice mountain environment. Needs a refresh on menu and staff engagement. The architecture and riverside location is unbeatable. We used to get some salads that were lovely, but stopped going there because they changed them to used cheaper ingredients that might be a few Pennie's different. Do get the black lavender drinks, they will change your experience in a heartbeat. Maybe I need one now. read more
