Mudpenny has a new restaurant location and I couldn't be more excited! Their address is 570 Grandville Ave SW which happens to be pretty close to my office. I have no affiliation with the business other than stalking them on social media for months, anticipating their opening. I stopped in for their friends and family soft opening and then today for their grand opening. I am thrilled that they have a delicious breakfast sandwich on their menu because, as I've said a million times, I LOVE BREAKFAST, and breakfast sandwiches are one of my favorite foods. Their O.G. is a fried egg, smoked cheddar, bistro sauce, and your choice of meat (optional) on wheat. It sounds simple, and it is, but it's executed perfectly. I love a runny egg in most cases, but usually not on a sandwich (too messy), so I like that their egg is over-hard. The cheese was completely melted but not super oozing, the bacon was perfectly crisp, and the bread - oh man, the bread. It was toasted to an appropriate level (it's not going to scrape up the entire roof of your mouth and pain you for days) and was soft inside, yet substantial enough to stand up to the savory filling of the sandwich. I finished this sandwich in record time and was already craving another. One of my coworkers ordered the honey oat pancakes, which are dairy free, gluten free, and vegan - and they were super tasty. They were thin and light (you wouldn't believe they were gluten free), almost crepe-like. The oats added a wonderful texture. I don't usually like pancakes but these were delicious. I also tried the turkey harvest. The sandwich comes on pillowy soft, warm naan and has turkey, bacon, provolone, spinach, and fig cranberry aioli. The warm naan was key - normally I'm not a huge fan of sandwiches on naan since it's usually kind of dry and chewy. Not this naan! Pillowy soft, I swear. Word on the street is they're working on a liquor license, but honestly, it'll be tough for me to not grab one of those breakfast sandwiches on a near-daily basis... read more

Went this morning around 9:30 (on a Saturday) with my husband and two daughters (17 and 6). We ALL have a wonderful time. We were seated right away, staff was very friendly, felt clean and safe. Visiting GR again this summer and the word on the street was to try MudPenny. We wanted to go for brunch but that didn't fit into our schedule so we headed for lunch on a Wednesday. Kids French toast was so indulgent and delicious I could have eaten it all as an adult option. I got the rueben and it was pretty good. I can't say it was $15 good but I wouldn't say don't try it. Several dishes sounded great and I wish I could come back and try more! However the latte was worth every penny and I always appreciate when there are non - dairy options. Restaurant was clean, there is some restaurant only parking, and it's honestly not far from the main downtown area. read more

I don't know why the stars aren't all 5s I'm a foodie and this place is great! It's a little different sure but if you want normal eggs and bacon go to Denny's. Only bad thing I have to say is they aren't open Sundays which is when I have time to go for breakfast but I'm not mad at ya. read more

Love it! Took friends there last weekend and we all had an amazing experience. Great food and wonderful service. MudPenny has a great coffee house vibe. I had a business lunch here last week and was truly impressed with the food and service. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, which I'm sure was one of he best chicken salad sandwiches I've ever had. It was homemade, with big chunks of white meat chicken, grapes, walnuts, and service in a very fresh naan bread. Truly delicious and great quality. The gentleman I was with also had a sandwich that he said was very good. Service was quick and friendly, and the whole place smelled of fresh roasted coffee which I discovered was coming from the coffee roaster in the front room. Prices were a bit high, but for truly good quality food I don't mind paying a little extra. I'll be back. read more

I wish I remembered our server's name - she was fantastic. She alone gets 5 stars. On to the food - amazing and simple and not overdone. I got the B.Y.O.B, which is three eggs, red potatoes, choice of bacon, sausage or roasted vegetables, toast & jam. I of course went with the bacon. I have no idea how they made scrambled eggs taste so good, but they did. We got a side of Short Stack Protein Pancakes - they were tasty but kinda dry, but I think that's just how protein pancakes are when they are made with quality ingredients. I also got pour-over coffee, which was really good, but I don't know coffee well enough to know the difference between that and regular drip coffee. So, if you want coffee ASAP, like the minute you walk in, get regular drip coffee. What a great little spot for breakfast/brunch/lunch in Grand Rapids. They also have a free parking lot. read more

Coffee and service were superb. Dishes were delicious. However, breakfast for four, (with only one coffee beverage at our table), was $84 before tip. Digital menus viewed on customer phones, while more sanitary, were more difficult for my 50-year old eyes to read and reference. Very satisfied, and glad I stopped here on our trip from Chicago, but the bill would prevent us from making this place anything more than a special treat if we were locals. read more

This little coffee shop/cafe is so awesome! I was amazed that we found a plethora of parking and tables at 10 am on a Saturday brunch. My husband and I were in from out of town and wanted a good brunch spot. They had an awesome variety of food and coffee. I got the Bananas in Pajamas. Super simple and also so delicious! My husband got the Philip Picante and loved it. We definitely hope to be back the next time we come to Grand Rapids. read more

It was a cute little coffee/brunch spot. The table had a variety of coffees (in which all were enjoyed), and a variety of food choices. For the most part, the food was solid. Serving sizes aren't huge for the price (only "complaint"). Will definitely go again though! read more

We came in a group of ladies and everyone was able to find food to fit her diet (keto, gluten free, whole food, vegetarian , etc ). I had the salad with salmon- amazing!!! Came for lunch and had the burger, and the turkey harvest (yeah, I'm a fatty) with a blood orange lemonade. Both sandwiches were excellent. The beef was high quality, cooked to a perfect medium rare and the house sauce was good. The turkey was amazing. I think what really sets both apart is the bread, perfect chew, warm and tasty. I wasn't sure if I was eating an amazing turkey sandwich or incredible bread that happened to have perfectly grilled turkey on it. Now the bad; parking was a struggle, the lot is small and street parking goes quick, but I guess thats Grand Rapids. I was also disappointed in the greens, while fresh, to have a perfectly cooked high end burger and gourmet bread paired with iceberg lettuce felt like a shame, local mixed greens would take it over the top. I'm not a chip fan, but these were fine, nothing to write home about, but good. All that said, I'll be back again and I'll bring my wife for breakfast. And I'm excited about it. It's a VERY clean restaurant in a budding neighborhood with super friendly staff and they actually give back to the community. We need more like MudPenny in the world. read more

This is a little out of the way place that has tremendous service and personality. It's only a stones throw away from the heart of GR but it's worth the travel. The food is tasty. We had the soup of the day, cheesy broccoli. It was creamy and delicious. We split a sandwich and both enjoyed the chicken salad. Hey, it had grapes in it...Bonus!! I did not like the coffee they had (not their fault-I'm just not a fan of some off today's popular coffees) but they were eager to make it right by bringing me something else. The cappacino they brought was strong, creamy and great. As mentioned, the people working there made us feel at home and we're very excited we were there. Service was fast and friendly. I'm in love with this little gem. Food was excellent with fresh vegan menu options. I've searched the GR area for a menu where I could have an excellent meal while my Vegan friends had the same. I highly recommend this resturant. It's a quaint little resturant within walking distance to the college. The Staff was warm and welcoming. Prices were right on board with quality of the food. My only complaint was locating the establishment, and that was only due to their minimalistic signage. read more

We stopped here for a quick lunch halfway through a road trip. It is conveniently right off the highway sporting a fresh and clean exterior and interior. The sandwiches are delicious and all have fun spin on there traditional ingredients (think aioli and served on naan!). It's middle range priced and well worth it for the quality of ingredients! The best part for me was that they have delicious gluten free bread they can put all their sandwiches on so I was able to enjoy their menu without much if any limitation. They also have a fun array of beverages to pair with - I ordered a mojito soda. read more

We were traveling and found the Mudpenny on Yelp and liked that they had a dine in option as it is COLD this time of year in Michigan to dine outside! The food was interesting and delicious! Big menu with lots of GF and vegan options. The tables were very far apart, staff were all wearing masks, electronic menus you could pull up on your phone, hand sanitizer was available as you walked in and they asked us to keep masks on until our food arrived. The flavors of sweet ham, thick cut bacon & cheddar chased by the crunch of the cabbage and little bite of sriracha aioli is fairy tale made reality! Who's Reuben. A new take on a classic staple with the brilliant addition of shredded Brussels sprouts. You will not be disappointed, and yes, your kids WILL love this too! Chicken Salad. My grandmother made the best chicken salad, but this one takes her cake too! Innovative spin on the classic potluck dish, your palate will thank you! Quinoa Fiesta. You would not know its meatless! First time here and we will not be back. The food was just not that great. For the cost, it just was not worth it. I wanted more flavor and it just wasn't there. The French toast didn't have flavor.
