Shrimp and grits, French toast, wings

Service was friendly and the vibe fits the cultural link I've been missing since moving to Grand Rapids from Pittsburgh. R&B, relaxed southern references to the atmosphere and mood... and the gravy on the shrimp and grits was outstanding. 8/10 - Wings with the jalapeño peach sauce and they were tender (maybe baked) and flavorful. 9/10 - Shrimp and grits.. that gravy and the portion is filling. 7/10 - French toast. Good caramelization on the bread. Tried it with and without syrup, the berries and glaze drizzle along can serve as the "healthy" sweet option. Met the chef, manager and both servers there and they were all very nice and enthusiastic about the food and giving good service. Excited to bring my family when they come back to GR.

We had a great first experience at Sugah Please! We went on a Saturday and was told it would be a 3 minute wait- it was literally almost exactly that, even though it was pretty busy. Our server was very kind and helped us look over the menu. I ended up ordering the signature peach cider to drink- important to note they don't have their liquor license yet, or their coffee maker in, so drinks are a little limited, but the peach cider is worth it! We then started with the beignets, which were beyond delicious. I had the cinnamon french toast, which was sweet, gooey, and balanced by the fruit on top. My husband had the french toast and chicken, and literally said, "I forgot how good chicken could be". We also got a side of grits, which were super flavorful. Overall, a great experience! It's super cute inside, and will definitely be a great addition to Grand Rapids brunch scene!

They're still working out the kinks here. I expect things to get better in time. Right now, we're still missing coffee (at a breakfast joint) and timely service (the food takes way too long to arrive). But the food *is* delicious once you get it. Our server made a mistake and brought me the wrong omelet (that happened to be $7 more expensive). They did offer to remake the proper omelet, but this would have been another 20 minutes of waiting (!). I stayed with the wrong omelet to save time. But rather than charging me for what I ordered, the manager only knocked five dollars off the bill. Grr--you're going to keep $2 because I couldn't wait another 20 minutes? Mistakes will happen, but it's hard for me to send folks here if we're not working harder to make things right. Bottom line: the food is good. It's expensive. And it takes a realllllly long time to arrive. You can't be in a hurry. Heads up: They automatically charge 20 percent gratuity on your bill. I'm told that coffee and a liquor license are on the way. So I'm hopeful that trying again in a few months will pay off. Support local!

I ordered the shrimp and grits and licked the plate clean, was beautifully seasoned and the consistency of the grits was immaculate. The wait was a bit longer than I would have liked, but the food was worth it and good coffee too.

Superb food, even better service, and a beautiful space. Try the Bourbon Street omelette; it's fantastic.

Nate and I recently stopped in to try some of their new food menu and seasonal drinks. The new drink menu is Japanese themed, so we were excited since we went to Japan earlier this year. I got the alpenglow and Nate got the spicy margarita. Both were delicious and beautiful. We also got some happy hour snacks - the dijon sesame salad and the savory cream cheese wontons. Their happy hour is a great deal and I'd love to come back soon for that again. The salad was fresh and a big portion to share. The raw diced onion wasn't my favorite addition to the salad, but I did love the overall flavors. The savory cream cheese wontons were absolutely delicious - definitely very savory and crispy. I'd get these every time! The vibe inside at happy hour was pretty quiet but it can get packed as it's not a huge space. I am so glad that General Wood Shop is here and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

As a queer person, we have to protect our spaces by supporting them. The care that the staff lures into this place truly shows. The rotating menu, the affordable drink options, the ambiance and the way they truly take suggestions from their patrons. They have a new patio addition which has made the smaller spot feel larger aswell. Last fall, I came in on a whim by myself. Callie was my bartender (love), and they were deciding what to do with some Sloe Gin. Thus the "Femme Fatale" was born, there's something magical about watching a craft cocktail come together. Something even more magical about being able to NAME a cocktail at your favorite watering hole. GW is truly a beautiful addition to GR.

Service was top notch from start to finish. Plates were cleared between each course, we were checked on often but not too much and felt super taken care of. The tart strawberry mocktail was one of the best I've ever had, refreshing and perfectly balanced. We started with the truffle arancini- it sits on top of a bed of black pepper aioli which was to die for. The gem salad was fresh- loved the addition of crispy prosciutto&mandarins. I had the double waygu burger with fries(highly recommend asking for a side of the black pepper aioli for your fries!!) while my husband had the hanger steak frites. Both were cooked perfectly and SO flavorful. We were stuffed, but had to finish with the tiramisu. It came in a chilled glass- so appreciate the attention to detail. I'll be thinking about this meal until I can come back for more!

Food is fresh, service is excellent and the ambiance is cool too. My waitress was on it with her recs! She helped me find a gin drink to my linking and talked up the scallops. I got them and loved it! Dishes were a bit garlicky, but I like garlic! The bed tartar was wonderful and I enjoyed how they "chunked" the meat instead of making it a mush. My friend got a steak on top of the gnocchi and really enjoyed it! Overall I think this restaurant is worth the hype and canto wait to dine here again! It's important to know that if you want to dine here, plan to reserve a table ahead or plan to wait for a table. They hold 50% of table s for walk ins. Parking DT is always a challenge and once they build the soccer stadium, I imagine it will be craziness. It just takes a bit of planning.
