The Apartment Lounge is tucked away behind the Children's Museum in downtown Grand Rapids. It's known for being an inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly place. I've been there several times and have always had a good experience. The past few times we stopped in, there has only been one bartender working, so it can be a little busy with a wait for drinks at times, so be prepared to spend some time relaxing. The bar has an old-school feel with unique touches throughout. The space is not huge but the comfy booths are nice and the bar is large so usually you can find a spot. It can get pretty packed though! They have a good variety of canned beverages, a handful of options on draft, and whatever cocktails your heart desires. My favorite part of visiting the Apartment Lounge is the 80s music videos they play on the TVs. Definitely a fun spot for a drink near downtown! Happy Pride! read more

Amazing Service and Great Drinks! After a really disappointing experience at a bar called Stella's nearby, we decided to check out The Apartment Lounge, and it turned out to be the best decision of the night! When we mentioned the poor service we received at Stella's, the staff at The Apartment Lounge immediately apologized on their behalf (even though it wasn't their fault!) and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The atmosphere was welcoming, the drinks were so much better than what we had at Stella's, and the service was exceptional. Special shout out to Matty, our bartender, who was not only friendly and attentive but also mixed up some incredible cocktails! They completely turned our night around. Highly recommend The Apartment Lounge for anyone looking for great vibes and excellent service! They even gave us popcorn and candy. So that's a definite win! lol read more

I really liked this bar!! It was cozy and the people were friendly! By the time we got there, we could only get a drink but I had my Sex on the Beach as usual and really loved it! I had wanted to come here for the Halloween Costume Contest but we couldn't find it until I remembered we could use Google Maps and found it right away!! Maybe next time we can be in a Halloween Contest! It was still a memorable night And we were told about a Haunted Mansion that my husband and I have to check out one day!! The only reason people write this as five stars is because it's the only gay bar in the city of Grand Rapids and the larger Grand Rapids-Holland statistical area. So when there isn't any option there isn't much to compare to. Bartenders Try be snobby but its kind of a shabby place, so it doesn't really work. Ahhh, the Apartment lounge.. I truly hold this place dear to my heart and it will forever be my go-to for sangria! First, the sangria that I rave about is strong yet deceivingly sweet. It tastes fruity with a hint of a bite but I have definitely learned to stop at 1 despite the coy flavor. I usually go for the red pitcher of sangria but I switch it up now and again and enjoy the white which is just as good. The atmosphere is vibrant, welcoming and lively. They have popcorn to munch on while you enjoy the festivities which I always ask for 2 baskets of. lol The LGBT+ community is definitely celebrated in this establishment and anyone else for that matter, truly. Right. Well, The Apartment Lounge is well deserving of the four stars. It would get five, but nowhere gets five. One reason for four is that it's cash only. And one reason that it's not three is that it's way too good to be a three. Four is the new five anyway. It's like being a teacher and never handing out an A+. Four is the rule, five is the exception to it. If we were to be grading on a scale of ten, I'd be giving eights. This is a locos bar with a friendly vibe. Aside from the pleasant and friendly service, they have one of the most cleanest gay bathrooms I have seen. Mind you, I am from LA area in CA and they don't have as nice as the Apartment Lounge. A most hangout in Grand Rapids if you want low key with a personal touch. read more

A lot of smoke smell from people smoking outside and inside it's not much better because it all smells like popcorn. Most of the beers are bottled rather than being in tab, but the prices aren't too bad. On a Saturday night, it's half empty. I personally did not find it very fun, ended up leaving without even finishing my drink. read more

Love this place!! Definitely always feel welcome when I am here & the bartenders/servers are all awesome! They have different drink specials each day & even free pizza with your drinks after 10pm on Monday night. Sunday's have a Bloody Mary bar from 2-6 and every other Sunday (1st & 3rd usually) they have a DJ. They also have a lot of fundraisers for local organizations, gift collection for kids at Christmas, & they care about the community here! Definitely one of my favorite places. Went here with some friends after Festival on Saturday. Great specials ($2.75 calls), awesome bar tender who makes a mean bloody mary, good music and a dark chill interior perfect for escaping the summer heat. Another review from a few years ago mentioned them being cash only, they take credit card now (with a $10 minimum). Looks like they have great specials almost every night of the week. Our bar tender mentioned that the have a make your own bloody mary bar on Sundays For $2, $3 or $4 depending on the vodka you choose. $2 MYO bloodys? I'm sold. I asked our bartender about a cinnamon liquor that I had not previously tried. While he hadn't tried it either, he offered me a taste with out me even asking. The also have free popcorn, and a pretty basic selection of microwave bar food. Great bar, great service, friendly patrons, close to everything down town. Come check it out. read more

Love coming here! It reminds me Of a "cheers" bar back in the day. Unfortunately this past Saturday (3/4) at Roughly 7-8pm I was visiting with some out of my out of town friends who also love this establishment because of the the drink prices,decor, and the fact that it's not so "in your face" like other gay establishment in Grand Rapids. Our server that night (heavier set, Tattoos, glasses) was so odd/rude he really threw me and my friends for a loop. He was just negative and kept making fun of us for the drinks we ordered. (Beer, vodka/soda, what's weird?) he refused to tell us what beers they served because "it's written down behind the bar why don't you go look?" He was acting so catty for no reason and it wasn't the funny kind of catty. I don't know if he thought he was being funny but it was just awkward. He put a bad taste in all of our mouths. Then to top it off, we had been walking around down town ALL day. But as Soon as we sat down at the apartment mind you it was DEAD, he threw all of our water bottles away which really pissed us off. We have NEVER had anything but a fun time here and spend a good amount of $ each visit. But this past experience was enough to Make us reconsider possibly a new favorite downtown dive bar.
