    Hot chocolate at Madcap
    T.J. V.

I always love coming to Madcap for a hot chocolate. The chocolate they use is top notch, so much better than a Starbucks or anywhere else! The staff are also super kind, always greeting me and asking how I'm doing and how my day is going. Go to Madcap if you're in the area - you won't regret it!

This was my first time visiting Madcap and, judging by how busy it was, I could tell from my first step in the door that this was going to be good! We waited 10-15 minutes for my friend's espresso drink, but it was well worth it. She ordered The Bees that came with a yummy orange sugar. I enjoyed a fruity, hot tea to warm my soul on this chilly morning.

I don't know why my friends sometimes compare madcap to Starbucks. While it is a bigger local chain for Grand Rapids, I do not think the local charm is lost. Baristas are always friendly and make good suggestions. And, more importantly, the coffee is always on point. My only complaint would b that sometimes the tables are dirty, but that's usually because they're busy. Solid 4/5 stars!

Madcap Coffee was included in the coffee crawl that Morning Ritual created, so Nate and I found ourselves at the Fulton Street Madcap location last month for a coffee flight. The employee taking our order was friendly and kind. We were given the option of a Tier 1 or Tier 2 for the coffee flight - I'm not sure what the differences are, but Nate got the Tier 2. We also ordered a Field and Fire ham and cheese croissant to split. Coffee is taken very seriously at Madcap, which personally is not really my vibe. I like cozy coffee shops that have fun. Madcap is definitely more spartan and serious. You will not get a cereal milk latte here. Not that there's anything wrong with that! I think the coffee flight consisted of a pour over, a shot of espresso, and a macchiato? I'm unsure but it was fun to try some different offerings. The espresso was super strong and very bold. The croissant was flaky and buttery, but cold inside even though we asked for it to be heated up. This location doesn't have a ton of seating, especially in winter months, but we were able to get a table as it wasn't too busy yet. They have some outdoor seating in the summer. You can order online ahead of time for pickup, but I didn't see the coffee flight as an option on the website since it's an experience best enjoyed in house. If you're a coffee enthusiast, Madcap is not to be missed. This location is more convenient for parking than the one downtown, but you'll still need to pay for metered street parking during the week as there aren't really any nearby parking lots.

The effect cortado. You have options of which espresso you want your drink made with. I tried the eureka and it was excellent! Great location walking distance from Fulton market. Some very friendly looking staff, one mean mugging looking staff. Puts the Mad in madcap. No pastries - but a block down you can get some pastries.

This is some quality coffee here. I got a regular whole milk latte and was thoroughly impressed. There was a strong espresso flavor that wasn't overly bitter and wasn't drowned out by the milk like I've had at other places. Definitely a go-to coffee shop right in the middle of downtown Grand Rapids! The interior was aesthetically pleasing and had a variety of seating options including long tables, small personal ones, and bar seats. Its a great place to get some work done or catch up with friends. Customer service was great as well.

I was heading to the mall and did a quick u-turn to grab a coffee from here first... so happy I did! They were kinda busy, but working very hard to get everyone taken care of. The girl at the counter was super sweet and happy to accommodate any specifications for my drink. I ended up with an iced mocha latte with half the sweetness. Three milk options: whole, skim or oat. Took maybe 5 minutes or so to get my drink and it was perfect. Not too sweet, not too milky... just enough chocolatey flavor. Bright and airy inside, lotsa windows. Plenty of seating outside. Great lil' spot... would love to come back.

a white brick wall and a small table in front of a window - The image shows a simple interior space featuring two black round stools with metal bases placed in front of a white brick wall. A white table with a black support is positioned against the wall, near a large window that allows natural light to enter. To the right, there is a white shelving unit with potted plants and other items. The floor appears to be a reddish-brown color, and the overall setting suggests a modern, minimalistic design.

If there's one coffee shop locals say to visit while in Grand Rapids, it's Madcap Coffee. They may also tell you to visit their second location along Fulton Street- street parking is easier to find. Madcap started in 2008 when two friends opened a downtown shop. These two friends taste over 3,000 coffees from around the world every year and roast the very best. Over time, they expanded with this Fulton Street cafe, a location in Detroit and selling their beans across the country. Coffee enthusiasts will recognize their coffee. The Fulton street location looks like it was plucked from Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighborhood and placed along a historic strip in Grand Rapids. It's well designed with open walls that allow the inside space pour into the outdoor patio. There's a large mural nearby and wall plants inside. The coffee menu is expensive (almost $6 for a latte miel), but you pay for quality. You can taste the bold coffee flavors in every drink. There's plenty of tables, a few outlets and wifi.

I love this Madcap location! Just like the one on Monroe, the coffee is full-bodied and refreshing. I prefer Fulton because I enjoy the small business pop ups they have on Saturdays. Parking can be a struggle with the farmers market down the street (also a bonus because you can visit both), but there's usually a spot within a short walking distance. I order ahead with Toast and my drink is always ready at the pick up window within the estimated prep time. You can easily customize your drink in the app and it shows what they're brewing that day, tasting notes included!

Three coffee menus are laid out on a table at Madcap Coffee in Grand Rapids, MI, showing different coffee options, descriptions, and prices. A separate drink menu for The Mary Lou, priced at $8.00, is propped up on a wooden stand, featuring a layered matcha drink with tropical fruit flavors. The menus include details about coffee blends, notes, and sizes, with a clean, minimal design.

We tried out another Madcap in another part of town and were impressed and just happened to graze by another one so we had to go for round 2. Just like a movie, the sequel wasn't as good though--nitro wasn't that nitro and the second coffee had some grinds. Still good though!

We popped in after enjoying ourselves at the Fulton Farmers market. I got the Ope! All Berries to try something unique. The best way I could describe this was drinking a combination of jam and cold brew. This coffee had a thicker but pleasing texture, and wasn't too sweet. Despite the hustle and bustle of people coming from the Farmer's market, we were in and out with our beverages in five minutes.

Swung by Madcap on our trip to Grand Rapids. Super cute, super spacious, super bright! Instead of trying the coffee, we tried the Howie Bling (jalapeño and pineapple). It was mellow and subtle, but you do get that gentle heat that lingers. Will be back to try other drinks!

Always a debate. Which bag do you choose? - A person is holding a black bag of Madcap Coffee Sitio Vista Linda, a Brazilian whole bean coffee, inside a coffee shop. The background shows a white brick wall, a menu board, and several customers seated at the counter. The shop has ceiling lights and a modern interior design.

I used to work at a coffee roaster. I have found that there is specialty coffee and then there is a next level of roasters that do deluxe specialty coffee. I can name on one hand the roasters I have had that are at that deluxe level. Madcap is one such roaster. All single origins have tasting notes. But the beans madcap sources bring flavor that is unparalleled. I do not have to stretch to say a coffee has chocolate notes. I can clearly call their ethiopia fruity. Madcap sources good coffee and then they prepare it intentionally. Coffee is the number one factor for a five star rating. However, this location is also beautiful and the baristas are excellent. I love you Madcap.

**Shorted me $3 and were weird and rude about it**…read more Went in. Started shopping. I was told immediately if I grab anything from the front I can't go through the rest of the store with it. I thought, sure maybe people steal $1 eyelashes. I set them up front. Nice music and all female employees. Love that. Found some things. Prices were better last time I was there a few months ago. Suddenly have to poop. Ask a nice young lady if they have a bathroom. She tells me no. Made my way back to the register. Decide not to get the dumb small stuff like the eyelashes because I'd grabbed the larger items and it was an impulse purchase. Their loss. The cashier is new and I understand that. Make light jokes but let her know I think I've been shorted. She uses two calculators. She assures me that I'm wrong. She says 'phew yeah I don't want to get in trouble' which made me worry for her. What do I know I'm dyslexic and have dyscalculia? I thought. I get back to my car. $63.85 total. $50 paid by card. $20 in cash. I received $3.85. I call a trusted friend. Double check. Darn, I have to go back in and I'm gonna poop my pants. I'm thinking I'm owed $10 because that's how my brain works. I'm confused by my calculator saying I should've received $6.15. But I go in and say 'hey I'm sorry but I did get shorted like $10'. Cashier calls for help through a window behind her register. The owner or head honcho comes around from the back. An elderly woman with 80s hair. She seems annoyed. Sighs deeply. 'You'll have to wait until Monday.' I show trepidation. 'Or' -she gives a laundry list of body language indicating she does not want to- 'I can take apart the register right now and you wait ten minutes.' I have to poop. I'm supposed to have cash for laundry today. I tell her that. But also explain it's only a few bucks. She doesn't want to budge. She must be thinking I stole $3 and want to steal more things in their employee bathroom? I'm not sure. She says Monday she can give me back the money. I go to my car. Take a deep breath. Then I head back in. Decide to return everything that was returnable. I wasn't told it wouldn't be immediate. So hopefully I don't have to wait until Monday to see my card transaction returned. Then I tell her if it isn't rectified in her old cash register now, it might mess up her accounting for Monday. That there could be other small mistakes before then. In my experience as a business owner. She "takes apart the register". It takes 5 minutes. She hands me $6.10. Which is still wrong. But let me get out of here to rush home to poop. Get the evil eye from an employee. I say thank you. Moral of the story. Their method of preventing theft loses them money and customers. They are willing to sacrifice good customer service to prevent theft. 2 out of 3 employees I saw were friendly. I'd made enemies with the 80s hair lady and her tall confidant over a mistake their new cashier made that was a $3 difference. Could've just checked my receipt. Corrected the issue without making me feel like I'm some thief ruining their time. Won't be coming back after that nerve-racking experience and will tell anyone who listens how weird that was.

This reckless driving driver failed to look toward his right to even notice me in transition already and pulled 4 lanes over into my lane, nearly t-boning my vehicle. To AVOID an accident and this driver from colliding into my 9 year old daughter and myself, I swerved to the right, ran into the curb at 35MPH busting my passenger side tires. When I called to complain to his supervisor, she stated how it didn't look like he was at fault and it appeared as if I lost control of my vehicle. I had FULL CONTROL of my vehicle which is why there isn't a collision reported, because I avoided it from happening. The only thing I was looking for was an apology and an explanation as to why he had a lack of attention and respect for oncoming traffic. He could have waited for me to pass especially since there was no vehicle behind me, or simply merged into the middle lane until I passed instead of disregarding traffic coming from his right. I literally saw his attention focus on the traffic coming westbound but he had no concern for the oncoming traffic traveling eastbound. Police report has been filed as will a lawsuit for replacing my tires, the inconvenience due to me NOT having possession of my vehicle now and the mental strain/stress/anxiety placed on me and my daughter on her way to school and throughout the day.
