Ada, MI is adorable & this MudPenny location is trendy and vibey AF - comparable to the coasts if you ask me! With their decor, their Slayer espresso machine and delicious food (and drinks!) We stopped in on a work trip and needed someplace close by. Our server was dealing with a broken soda machine, half the menu not being available because the salmon was still curing as well as the steak or something? But, she was gracious and calm! I ordered the: * SMORGASBORD (grilled salmon, mixed greens, arugula, pickled beets, radish, whipped goat cheese, flax bread, herb vinaigrette) - supposed to be grilled salmon but they were out as mentioned so did grilled chicken. * POTATO WEDGES (salt and vinegar potato wedges, truffle aioli, scallion) - not very salt & vinegar-y but the wedges were cooked to perfection!

Food looked absolutely beautiful, but unfortunately it was lacking seasoning and overall flavor. I ordered the brunch wrap with chorizo -- the chorizo was cooked very crispy, almost like bacon, which I wasn't expecting. The aioli and hot sauce really saved the meal. The coffee, however, was excellent and I'll definitely be back for that alone. I also tried a bite of my husband's breakfast burrito and the sausage in that was very good. Service was a bit slow; it took a while for us to be greeted at the table. Prices are also on the higher side, especially considering the food doesn't come with any sides.

Never knew how beautiful Ada is! And to have such a cute brunch/lunch/breakfast place is an added bonus. The service was wonderful despite it being pretty busy. I ordered The Wild Card, which was PHENOMENAL! The mushroom mix they put on top was chewy and savory...SO GOOD! Went so well with all the root veggies and other roasted vegetables on the plate. Husband ordered their brunchwrap, which was also delicious, but kinda small for his liking. (He wanted their braised short rib but sadly, they had already run out this morning. ) We will have to come back again soon to check it out!

Saturday morning around 10am.. seated promptly. Not super busy when we arrived. Took a minute for waitress to take our drink order. I stuck w water, my daughter got a fancy coffee. Seemed to take a while to get the coffee. Got busier while we were there. I ordered the French omelette, my daughter ordered the muddy Christo. Again seemed to take a while to get food. Food was very good. Bill (with tip) about $50 for the two of us.

We went to MudPenny for brunch. The service was exceptional. Very friendly and attentive. I recommend the Muddy Bloody - an appetizer in itself! I ordered the eggs and crispy polenta. My partner had a wrap with latkes. Both were delicious.

We stopped by on a Sunday morning at 10:30 and didn't have to wait for a table for three. Food and drinks were delicious and our server was attentive. The miel cafe was wonderful, as were our meals. Two of us had the Mountie (the sweet potato mash on the sandwich is so good) and the other had eggs Benedict (the eggs were perfectly poached).

MudPenny's French toast sticks

After our stay at the Ada Hotel, we wandered across to Mudpenny for breakfast. What an incredible way to start the day! I ordered the Crème Brûlée French toast sticks. Not a single note...the sticks were so good that I was sad to take the last bite. The coffee was so tasty that I bought a can of their coffee beans to take home. Our waitress was lovely, checking in on us frequently. The restaurant was busy with all sorts of customers coming and going. With all of the different seating choices, MudPenny would be a great place for small work meetings.

In love with the interior of this place! They also have a cute patio, but it was raining so we sat inside. We were greeted immediately and brought to a table. They were very busy for a Tuesday afternoon! I was surprised to see people with work laptops, books, etc posted up at this busy restaurant, but the staff didn't appear to mind. My seasonal blueberry maple latte was such a fun summer twist on a standard latte! My Angela Martin burrito was tasty, but not really any wow factor to it. My dad ordered the lemon pancakes, which again were good but not anything super special. I felt very comfortable with my toddler here- definitely family friendly!

Wild Card (that's the $4 sausage chip sticking out of the right side). It really doesn't need sausage, but I thought I would try it.

Food is always tasty! I dig savory flavors and Mudpenny doesn't disappoint. However, I added sausage to my Wild Card ($4 up charge) and got what appeared to be about a tablespoon of sausage that was smash/fried on a flat grill. Otherwise, the Wild Card was tasty and the portion large enough to take home leftovers. My breakfast partners split the vegan burrito with a side of roasted vegetables. Also tasty. Service was pretty good except that our server spoke in a whispering voice, so lip reading comes in handy.

Came here for dinner for the first time. They do a nice job of setting a dinner scene from the breakfast/brunch place it's known for. Black table clothes, low lighting, very light music. We stared with a couple cocktails that were good and chose the mushroom donuts that were recommended. Server described them similar to hush puppies. They were interesting and did remind me of a fried hush puppy with a mild, earthy flavor. The black garlic Mayo and chili honey they were plated with made the dish added more flavor to the donuts For dinner, I had the spare ribs with a sliced glazed carrots and cheddar polenta. Large portion and tasty with the meat very tender and went well with the polenta. My husband had the patty melt which was an elevated version of the sandwich on toasted brioche. He enjoyed that as well. They were out of the cab, but we found two different glasses of red wine to go with our dinner (Pinot noir and a cote du Rhône). Nice option for dinner in downtown Ada open Thurs-sat for dinner.

Zero flavor Carmel latte

Took forever to take our coffee order. Had to wait a bit for her to come back for food order as well. Still waiting on food, arrived here over an hour ago-only myself and one other person and ordered the most basic breakfast. Also coffee was terrible. I got a Carmel latte and there was zero flavor. She did take coffee off my bill so there's that but waitress was very non existent the whole time and didn't give us a heads up on it being such a long wait for food. Multiple tables open so unsure why it took forever. Super disappointed.

a menu and a drink on a table

MudPenny is what happens when the little coffee stand that could grows into a fantastic eatery/coffee joint/hangout spot. It's easy to like. Welcoming coffee shop vibe with a dining room to boot. Sit at the counter or take a table. Staff are friendly and proud of what they're doing. The menu I sampled was special for an event I was attending, but I did try a few of the regular dinner offerings. The tagliatelli dish is off the charts yummy. House made tagliatelli noodles are wide ribbons of al dente goodness, tossed with a light vodka cream sauce and served with thick toast. Just want dessert? Get the coffee creme brûlée--it's lights out fantastic. You'll tell yourself you're sharing, but you won't pass the spoon. MudPenny has become one of Ada's little gems. If you're in town give it a (espresso) shot!

Cheesecake Brownie and Lavender Oat Milk Latte
Eddie E.

Cheesecake Brownie: Oh man...this was outstanding. Rich, but I was able to finish it. Btw, IT'S GLUTEN FREE! Lavender Oat Milk Latte: Not a sugar bomb like a lot of flavored lattes at your run-of-the-mill coffee shops. Perfect amount of lavender. Clearly, it's gorgeous There were plenty of other choices for baked goods and coffee drinks. The "latte lady" was a master (Super Bowl Sunday @ Noon; give her a raise). Different drinks had different plating, which shows attention to detail. The brunch menu looks outstanding and the couple plates I saw looked delicious. I will be back to endeavor further.

Food options are all incredible. Honestly haven't found one thing on their menu that isn't very unique with amazing flavor.

Service and food was really good, however, the eggs Benedict did not come with hollandaise which was disappointing for a Benedict.

Nate and I stopped by on a Saturday morning to try some of their seasonal drinks and get a light breakfast. The menu includes some hot food items (breakfast sandwich and quiche) and a small selection of pastries. We got a bunch of things to share: banana bread latte, a breakfast sandwich, slice of broccoli ham quiche, and a cherry almond scone. Everything came out on a counter near the ordering area and they called out our name. The drinks were tasty but I preferred the robin's egg cold brew the best. The banana bread latte didn't have a lot of banana flavor; it mostly tasted like the spices you'd associate with banana bread. I really liked the food we tried. The quiche was one of the best I've ever had. I'm actually still thinking about it days later. The texture of the egg was silky and custardy, not at all spongy or dry. I thought it was divine but if you don't like that texture, it is not for you (flan-like). The breakfast sandwich was a bit bland -- I asked for hot sauce but they couldn't find any. I appreciated the texture of the biscuit, and the egg was also tender (not as custardy as the quiche). I don't usually like scones as they tend to be dry, but theirs was flaky, buttery, and delicious, with a very almond-forward flavor. I would definitely order more quiche and scones. There were quite a few people coming in for pickup orders on a sunny Saturday morning. If I lived closer, I think I'd come here often. I'd be curious to try some of their take home items or lunch.

I parked in the back of the building and there were plenty of parking spots. I had a cappuccino because I had to try their coffee. It was great! I got some other things to try - the Asian salad and the carrot cake. Both were very good. Salad had tons of chicken. And the dressing was light and fresh. Carrot cake was freshly made and the frosting was amazing!! They had some different options in their take home fridge - some chicken lasagna and curry chicken salad to name a couple. I would definitely love to try that chicken salad one day. This place was the perfect coffee shop/bistro. I wish I lived closer by so that I could try more!

I was fascinated when a colleague recommended this place in Rockford for breakfast and I had no idea what to expect when I pulled up to an old home. When I walked in, I was greeted with delicious coffee aromas being ground while people were buying pounds of fresh ground beans. I was confused about the ordering process, but friendly customers explained the procedure. First, you get in line and pick your drink and order a customizable bagel. I picked a sandwich because I was hungry, so I opted for a full on sandwich. I chose an onion bagel with house-made smoked and sliced roast beef, egg, pepper Jack cheese, horseradish sauce, onion, tomato, and lettuce. Yum! The bagels are homemade and on the smaller side so I was able to scarf down the whole sandwich whilst enjoying a large NOLA coffee brew. All of this came to under $10. A great value and interesting experience. After, ordering you can find a seat and they come find you to come back to the counter to pay. You only pay when your food is ready. Then its cafe seat yourself territory. They also have random items for sale and interesting curiosities hidden in the nooks and crannies of this space. Certainly worth a visit based on vibes and price point alone. the food did not disappoint. Smoked meats for the win!
