Amazing place for Ada let a lone GR. Always love the food and the service is also great. One thing I will say, the ac needs to get fixed for the summer. Know it's an older building however we were sweating in there eating. Again, awesome spot but don't go if it's too hot for your liking outside. Will be just as hot in there. read more

Was expecting some amazing food by the reviews I read and from a friend's recommendation. We both went during lunch as we happened to be shopping. The service was ok, the waitress seemed put out Becsuee my friend has celiac disease and wanted to make sure the soup was gluten free. I also hate when I have to ask for refills on my drinks. If the food was good that would have been minor, but my sandwich and salad were just " ok". Very bland and something I could have gotten anywhere. Maybe dinner is better? read more

Gorgeous place, wonderful food, and kind people! My husband and I went to Nonna's for our anniversary dinner and it was the perfect spot to celebrate. Upon entry we were greeted by friendly staff and given a menu to review while we waited for our table. After being seated we were able to order drinks and food quickly! Everything came out in a timely manner. We also got a free dessert for our anniversary which was such a wonderful touch! The dining space is a little small which made it difficult to converse at some points but this was truly the only downside. We can't wait to return to this spot for another delicious dinner! Food: -Calamari: beautifully seasoned and breaded. Great portion size with amazing flavor! -Chicken Scallopini: Creamy lemon goodness! Rich flavor with perfectly cooked chicken. We had a fabulous meal with a client here a few weeks ago. I would definitely recommend a reservation. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect, it's like going to your Italian Grandma's for dinner. For appetizers we tried the Grilled vegetables, calamari, and meatballs plus the avocado salad. Dinner entrees were salmon, a filet, and a couple pasta dishes, I forget which. Everyone enjoyed all over their food, so much so that we did not get to try dessert! The service was pleasant, helpful without being intrusive. Ada Restaurant Week menu - the Poached Pears with Vanilla Gelato and walnuts was delicious and the perfect way to end the meal. Reservation recommended especially as it gets colder out. We didn't make a reservation and decided to sit outside with a heater. At 54° and an overcoat I was perfectly comfortable. Service was great! The pasta dishes are always great. Ambiance is lovely for a sunny warm Saturday afternoon meal with friends on the patio. Just be aware they have a brunch menu until 3 pm. But it does have plenty of options if you lean towards a lunch preference in the early afternoon! Highly recommend any salad with the French vinaigrette. It is authentic. Nona's has become a family favorite of mine! We come on special occasions like birthdays or holidays, and the staff always gives us the best service. Our food is served in a timely fashion and is always hot and delicious. I also think the portion sizes and overall quality of food are worth the money, as this restaurant can be on the pricier side for most. I recommend any pasta dish (it's always alienate) or anything form the seasonal menu. The space itself is small and a bit cramped, but honestly that adds to the ambiance for me! I enjoy the business of the restaurant. Plus even with a lot of people, it is not too loud or echoey. I think that's because the restaurant is in a "house." Overall a high 4/5 Yelp stars! read more

Nonna's is absolutely charming. We ate on the deck under a beautiful evening sky. Having an outdoor heater was a nice addition. Service (by Jill) was excellent. Her recommendation on a rose wine was perfect. We split a beet salad that was delicious. Perfectly cooked beets were graced with goat cheese and arugula plus a balsamic glaze. Our mains included a delicious Mixed Vegetables plate for my bride. I had the Ravioli stuffed with goat cheese and spinach, covered in a delightful cream sauce, shredded lamb and peas. We stumbled upon Nonna's during a drive and it was the perfect spot for a relaxing lunch. On a hot day, we wanted something refreshing, and their selection of sandwiches and salads hit the spot. My wife's chicken pesto sandwich was packed with flavor, half of it was gone before I could snap a pic! My chicken salad croissant was also delicious. Came here for lunch and it was absolutely delightful. Restaurant is clean, quaint, and beautiful inside. I ordered the veal saltimbocca and it was very good and fresh! They use great ingredients and we feel amazingly after eating. Service wasn't great but the waitress was very nice. She gave us the order that wasn't made to order and when she gave us our bill she accidentally charged us for an extra entree. She fixed both issues quickly and it was likely an honest mistake. Make a reservation! This is our first time here and it was highly recommended. We were able to get a same day reservation, but the restaurant is tiny and was packed! Menu is pretty extensive overall. We both felt the pasta dishes seemed lackluster so we opted to not order from that portion of the menu, but we have been told it's the best Italian in GR, so we'll have to try at some point! We started with the salmone plate which was pretty good- salad, smoked salmon, soft boiled egg, capers, lemon. Felt like something was missed. We also had bread with the olive tapenade oil. This was pretty delicious and neither of us like olives. The lamb shank and special short rib were good. The sauces seemed the exact same. The mashed potatoes in the lamb dish were subbed for broccolini. The portions were massive and we both had leftovers. Overall the dishes were fine but I wouldn't order again. I would order the tiramisu a thousand times. It was perfectly light, coffee flavored but not overwhelming. The chocolate sauce was a perfect touch. I went to the coffee place next-door at 8 AM and they were supposed to be open and no one was around. So I went in and asked if I could get a dirty chai tea and that was the best one that I've had in a long time. They were super friendly, great chai tea, and the menu looked great, but I was in a hurry. I will definitely be back very soon! read more

A friend of mine took me to Nonna's for my birthday recently and we enjoyed our experience so much:)! Walking up the restaurant had me feeling like I was entering someone's house, but after you walk in you see a bar and a bunch of seating. Since it's wintertime it's not open but it looked as if they have a nice patio area for nicer weather days:) The inside felt a little more upscale than I expected and the decorations felt very festive for the holidays. We made a reservation that was honored as soon as we arrived. Our server quickly got us some waters and gave us plenty of menus to look at. We had a specials menu, cocktail menu, wine list, and a huge dinner menu. Looking over the menu was overwhelming only because of all the exciting options to choose from. My friend and I are big on Italian and any kind of pasta dish so it was a challenge to pick just one thing!:) For an appetizer we ordered the mussels! These were amazing! Not at all fishy and the mussels were very succulent and flavorful. The menu says they are cooked in white wine, garlic, and a spicy tomato sauce. I could honestly drink that broth .. it was that good. My friend ordered the Penne Alla Vodka which had asparagus, vodka cream sauce, and a smoked salmon that really made the dish have a smoky flavor in general. I took a bite and it was delicious! I ordered the Shrimp Pasta off the specials menu which had big and juicy tiger shrimp, bacon, garlic, shallots, baby spinach, with fettuccine, and slow roasted tomato cream sauce. This dish had me drooling all over the place. Yum! Looking over the dessert menu, my friend ordered the creme brûlée which my friend said tasted more custard-y (but still great) and I ordered the tiramisu which was a pretty large piece with lots of chocolate drizzle on top and I ate the entire thing. The server boxed our leftover food for us and she was very on top of getting thing out to us in a timely manner and always had our waters topped off. I will 100% return here! I've been trying to find some solid, authentic pasta to please my Italian husband in the area for quite some time. I entered Nonna's with very high hopes! I liked the cozy, intimate feel of the tables all tucked into the first floor of a home, and our waitress was really sweet and personable. We ordered the carpaccio for an appetizer, which I would not recommend.. and the sangria which I would definitely recommend! We really enjoyed their bread and tapenade too! For our meal we decided to get an order of the spinach and ricotta ravioli, and 2 half orders of the tagliatelle alla Bolognese and the penne alla vodka. I loved that they allowed half orders! So few restaurants do. Their meals all seemed to have a little twist to them.. the spinach and ricotta ravioli was served in a creamy parmesan sauce and sprinkled with lamb and peas. This was the best of the three by far. We loved the asparagus addition to the penne alla vodka, but the sauce didn't have much taste or substance to it. The bolognese was just ok as well. I have to admit that overall I was a bit disappointed, but I may return to try some other dishes and grab another glass of the sangria! read more

This place is always amazing. In the summer they have plenty of outdoor seating and the staff is incredible. The food is always perfectly made. I've had the osso bucco, chicken piccata, and beef Bourguignon. The meat is always fall apart tender with a very savory flavor. In the winter or fall when there is no outdoor seating it's a very small area with bar seating and some tables for large and small groups. It's a must if you are in Ada. We got in easy at the bar on a Saturday before noon but I would suggest reservations. Alyssa, the bartender is so friendly and makes some great cocktails. read more

I've been here a number of times (only lunch and dinner-have to try the breakfasts soon) and was surprised I've never done a review. For us, Nonna's is usually "off the radar" despite being so close. When one of us or a friend has the idea to come here, we are never disappointed. On our most recent visit this week, we ordered the mussel appetizer. A generous quantity of mussels were served in a wonderful broth. Broth was perfect for dipping the fresh baked bread in also. We also ordered Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese and Penne Alla Vodka. The bolognese is definitely the best I've had in Grand Rapids and easily compares to what I've enjoyed in Italy. Penne Alla Vodka was presented with salmon, asparagus and a wonderful vodka tomato creme sauce. Two perfect choices! Nonna's has both inside and delightful patio seating. Another plus in my book is their wine list. You don't see the normal "rip off" wine by the bottle prices which encourages me to order more wine! Service is close to perfect. This place is too cute! It reminds me of the restaurants we've visited in Carmel & Monterey, CA. Very charming! We visited for a Saturday date night and we had a great time. The service was attentive, timely, and very friendly! For drinks, I ordered an espresso martini with baileys, and it rivaled one of the best I've had! My boyfriend ordered a sidecar and said it was very good and lemon-forward. We started with side caesar salads and were also given freshly baked bread. The caesar was great, very crisp & a good portion. The bread is complimentary and comes with olive oil & an olive tapenade; it was delicious! For our entree's, my boyfriend ordered the penne alla vodka, which had smoked salmon & asparagus in it. I wouldn't call it traditional, and honestly I don't think the sauce tasted like a vodka sauce at all, but it was a good pasta and flavor nonetheless! I had the angel hair puttanesca and substituted the salmon for shrimp. The shrimp was cooked very well, and they put a good amount of them in the dish. If you like spicy sauces, this was good! I would say it leaned more towards an arrabbiata than puttanesca because it was so heavy on the red pepper flakes. I enjoyed the dish, and the serving size was very large so there was plenty to take home. We also took home a piece of carrot cake, and it was divine. I will say when you make a reservation, skip the high top option as that spot is right next to the front door, bathroom, and host stand, so it was pretty crowded and busy most of our time. We booked pretty last minute though so at least we know for next time! Their standard tables & outdoor dining looked lovely, though. We're looking forward to coming back! read more

I've had Nonna's the Trattoria on my radar for awhile and decided I wanted to try it out for breakfast on my birthday recently. I'd looked over the menu beforehand of course and decided everything sounded good, so I knew I'd probably enjoy it. I'm certainly not a picky eater, but I enjoy having options! I had read about their porch patio, but when Nate and I got there around 8 am on a weekday morning, it was still quite chilly, so we opted to sit inside. There's plenty of parking, including a large lot across the street as well as street parking. We were greeted right away and told we could sit wherever we wanted. Our server was very kind and polite and quick with coffee warmups. I ordered the French omelette with everything: ham, spinach, sauteed mushrooms, cheddar and goat cheese. It comes with toast and jam - I chose homemade cherry jam. I also ordered a side of bacon, because... bacon. Nate ordered the Adams' breakfast sandwich: toasted English muffin with one fried egg, 3 strips of bacon, white cheddar, and avocado. You can substitute steak for the bacon for an upcharge. We also added a side of grilled veggies (zucchini, portobella, asparagus, and peppers) for health. Ya know. Our food came out pretty quickly and everything was nicely presented. The French omelette was perfect -- creamy inside without any browning on the outside, and stuffed with plenty of fresh veggies and cheese. I really appreciated that the butter was room temp and easily spreadable on the delicious sourdough toast. The bacon was perfectly crisp and a great accompaniment to this special breakfast. The breakfast sandwich was huge and came with a ton of avocado! It did need a touch more seasoning, so we added some hot sauce and that did the trick. Finally, the side of grilled veggies may have been my favorite part of the meal! They were incredible. Perfectly seasoned, crisp tender, and super flavorful. I could've eaten an entire plate of them. Don't sleep on these veggies! I'm so glad we found a new to us breakfast spot -- it's a bit further from our house, but totally worth it and I can't wait to go back again for more breakfast -- and those grilled veggies! read more

Nonna's looks like the most quintessential Italian restaurants from the outside. It's in a cute building near the water in downtown Ada with a wraparound porch with tables. The image they project led me to take my mom here for dinner, but we left disappointed. Here's why: 1) Service: Worst service I've had in West Michigan. Not only were the servers not genuinely nice, they were forgetful and slow. It took them around 20 minutes until our server came over to take our order, give us water and bread. Every time she left, we had no idea when we'd see her again leaving massive gaps between service. My water was never refilled until I proactively asked and half of our order was forgotten. When it did come, we were given things we didn't even order. When it was time for the check, our server took my credit card for another 20 minutes, raising alarm. Truly, the worst service. 2) Atmosphere: It looks cute, but the tables on the porch are too close to each other and there are bugs everywhere. It was hard to have a solid conversation between loud patrons nearby and a dozen gnats picking at your food and skin. 3) Food: It was decent, but definitely not noteworthy or worth the price tag. The meatballs came out cold in the center. There was barely any cheese on the French onion soup. The chocolate mousse was terrible and tiny for $8. The only dish we enjoyed was the burrata. Where Nonna shined was in the drink menu offering different wines and cocktails. My sauvignon blanc was great and affordable. This is no fault of Nonna's, but if you go and don't fit into the West Michigan wealthy, white stereotype, you'll feel out of place. There was absolutely no diversity in staff or patrons. read more

Finally made my way to Nonna's for our anniversary. It's a cute little restaurant downtown Ada with easy street parking. We had a reservation and they had a table waiting for us when we walked in a few minutes early. We did find it comical how the door still has signs about social distancing but our table was literally less than a foot from both tables next to us. I hate restaurants that put tables this close together and that has nothing to do with covid. It makes it uncomfortable to get in and out of your table, talking is awkward, and it makes it awkward for the server. We ordered a cocktail and glass of wine, which were both good. Their drink list didn't include any draft beer, which was a bummer. We both wished that the complimentary bread came with regular oil rather than oil and olives but that's just a personal preference. We started with the Burrata which was delicious and large enough to share. For my dinner, I order the Chicken Nathaniel and really enjoyed it. The portion size was enough to fill me up with nothing left over to take home. The menu was on the smaller side, which is common for a small restaurant like this. The service was very friendly and quick as well. If we come back, we will probably ask for a table outside so we don't end up sitting so close to other people. read more
