First visit, nice selection of local crafts. I had the fried perch dinner and it was very good. They turned on the air conditioning about 10 minutes after we sat down and it was blowing right on us. Not sure why they needed AC when it was only 50° outside? read more

Unfortunately the service at our last on June 23, 2026, was not as pleasant at in the past. Not was our server (Grace) really not interested in serving my wife and I, but you could see the same throughout the staff. I watched one staff person eating a pizza behind the counter, apparently on break. The experience just wasn't great and I kept thinking we are wasting our valuable time and money when we could have selected a different place. I have been here before, but it just seems more "run down" now. read more

Nice Ambiance food was delicious. I had fish and it was nice to know it was from Lake Michigan so it was local.

Elle always treats me right from behind the bar! An empty Tuesday night with chill vibes and good music! Loved the nachos but wanted to be able to eat them tomorrow too and I was sooo happy with the results. BCB will always be my favorite happy hour spot! I met a friend here for a belated birthday dinner. I arrived first and was impressed on how large of a space they have. It was a sunny day and all of the windows are full of sunshine, which was nice but a little warm. We seated in a booth and was impressed by the wide array of happy hour items as well as an extensive menu. Our server was friendly if not overly attentive. Our food came out fast. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and upgraded to sweet potato fries and my friend got one of their seasonal offerings, a bowl with sweet potato, quinoa and other autumn veggies. The food was good. Grilled chicken is not particularly exciting, but it was done well. The sweet potatoes were a little disappointing. They were Not hot or crispy and did not get finished a little disappointing, especially when you pay to upgrade. read more

Servers were super attentive and sweet! Place is clean and has a great vibe. Bar seating, tables and booths are options and plentiful. There's a private room in the back as well. Food was hot & fresh! The flavors of the fig chicken were surprisingly amazing - the fig with the goat cheese and the balsamic glaze worked really well together. read more

I was here El was the bartender and had a Blue Moon and pizza. I wish I had taken pics, but sometimes I fail and this is one of those times. There was a problem with the order El was beyond gracious with me as a customer. I had the Goat pizza which if I wasn't in my upper 40s, overweight and on a statin I would eat every single day! Absolutely phenomenal-I wish I had a picture. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and I will absolutely be back! Be waiting El, I'm coming back with my book! read more

I've been to Beer City Bread a couple of times, and they are a great place to have a hearty meal in fall or winter. My favorite items are the French onion soup and the pretzel bites. Last time we were seated quickly, but wait times can vary significantly if the restaurant is busy. It can be a bit loud when the restaurant is close to full capacity, and they usually have sports on the TVs by the bar. read more

Love the happy hour here. Truffle fries and green tea shots are great options after a long day.

Amazing food, Great Service, huge portions and wonderful atmosphere. Had the Perch sandwich, wife had the perch dinner, and my son had the fried chicken sandwich (that he said was as big as his head, and he was right) Each came with a mountain of fresh cut fries that were so delicious. However wonderful the food is, my biggest compliments are to our cheery, professional server named Taren. She went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect. The big question we should ask ourselves, why not eat here instead of the chick-filet next door?! It's only a few dollars more, and actually probably cheaper because of the massive servings given -and probably just as fast! read more

I really wanted to love this place! It's in a decent location right next to the Woodland mall and has ample parking. The inside is pretty cute; it has a lot of natural lighting. When I went, it was later and not super busy. Despite this, our server was very slow with getting to us for drinks and our food order wasn't taken for at least 30 minutes. We didn't end up getting our food until 50 minutes into our time there. Once the food did come, it was good! The beer cheese wasn't my favorite, but that's only because I'm a cheese snob! Everything else was delicious. Regardless, I'd go back to give it another try I think. read more

I've been here before for lunch, and it's been great. I think the key is not go during a busy weekend. We went for dinner on a Saturday in May with several college graduations happening. I had made a reservation weeks prior. Upon arriving, the line was out the door. We waited for 10-15 minutes before getting up to the hostess stand. The hostess admitted that the manager made them take all walk-ins even though they had many reservations that night so they were behind. We were seated approximately 20 minutes after our reservation. It was an hour and a half later that we got our food, and we ordered soon after sitting. Our server was frazzled. My asparagus was charred black. Boneless wings were dry. My walleye was delicious. The perch was also good. read more

The French onion soup was pretty good, but the pesto grilled cheese was the star of the show! The bread, a multigrain sourdough, was some of the freshest I've ever had. It is topped with provolone and Amish MI jack, as well as spinach, pepita (pumpkin seed) pesto, and tomato. I felt that the portions were great for the price! The service wasn't the quickest, but it was lunch hour so it was understandable. read more

Not pictured was the pretzel bites...it's been three weeks and I still dream about the dang pretzels with the perfect mustard and the heavenly cheese sauce. Like I should've gotten four orders of it or asked to take an order to go. Many regrets but highly recommend this place. The service was super quick, everything was delicious. I got the bang bang chicken sandwich and it might look like a hot mess (I accidentally cut the sandwich prior to taking the photo), but beware that it will make you want to devour it as quickly as possible. I would've liked the salad to be in a bowl or less lettuce as I felt like the lettuce was getting all over the place. The atmosphere was very pleasant. read more

Beer City took me and my friends in one warm summer night and treated us... well, no, I treated them to an evening out. But we all celebrated being at this nice tasty place. In order: * Beer: Good variety. A lot of locals on tap, prices are reasonable. They were out of the raspberry ale my friend wanted, but that happens. * City: Feels a bit steely inside. They went for modern but it's a combination of lighting and decor, open kitchen... in the end I'm not a big fan of the ambiance. Service was fine, nothing special there. * Bread: There's a reason they are named for the bread. It's incredible. My friend requested the table bread, since it's by request only, and we got plenty of the delicious cheese bread that is a starter. You want this. Request as much as they'll give you, and then keep requesting. The other foods were OK - hot honey was a bit on the breaded side and the fries were thin, resulting in them becoming oily and overdone. Fresh, sure. Overall solid, I think the table bread sets the bar a little too high for the rest of the experience. read more

I have fond memories of going to Arnie's with my grandparents as a kid, so Beer City Bread has a special place in my heart! The decor is very cool and industrial; it is a fun place to go on a date, out for drinks with friends, or even out to dinner with family. I've actually done all three lol! The service is usually pretty good, sometimes a little slow. The food is overall very tasty if you are a "normal" eater. My husband is particularly obsessed with the whiskey cake. Unfortunately, I am a "funny tummy" girlie, which means I avoid gluten. Their gluten-free options are limited, and they often run out. But, if that's not a problem for you, you'll be very happy! read more

Service was amazing. Very quick for beginning of dinner service. Food was delicious, and fresh. We had pizza, wings and a burger from the happy hour menu. All were tasty. Very easy decision for a return trip to GR! The restaurant itself was gorgeous and really nicely kept and pretty. read more

I never think of coming here because this is still Arnies in my mind but I was beyond wrong. When someone in our group suggested this, I was excited to try it but I didn't have high expectations. This place was completely remodeled and you would never be able to tell what it used to be like. It's now a modern atmosphere with a great food and drink menu. The lunch specials were such a great deal with huge portions. Pick a sandwich and pair it with a soup or salad for under $13. I really enjoyed my hot honey/jalapeño fried chicken sandwich! I upgraded to truffle fries which had great flavor but the majority of them were soggy, which was a bummer. The sandwich wasn't spicy at all but had great flavor from the hot honey and fresh salsa. The staff was great from the moment we walked in and Jordan took great care of us during our lunch. I'll definitely be back. read more

Been here before and I would have given it a 4 star. Today, the service was average at best. Couple pet peeves. 1) they served our meal without having settings on the table and we had to ask for it twice; and 2) the wasn't any salt or pepper and again, it to 2 asks to get it. This is based on my meal alone. I ordered the perch dinner as the touted it as the best. It was not. I am pretty sure it was not yellow lake perch. The filets were way too long and thin. Luckily it was not over breaded. Ambiance was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. I will probably be back because of my first experience here. read more

I'd heard this place was very good from a few friends in the area so I decided to check it out. When I walked in I felt a little out of place as it seemed to be slightly more upscale than I'd expected and relatively dead, but I'm glad I stayed. The bar service was quick, friendly, and knowledgeable, the food was very good with pretty large portions, and the prices were good at least during my happy hour dining. Our server was very attentive and was great about answering questions on the menu, making recommendations, etc. That being said, we do not recommend this place other than the beer pretzel appetizer -- which was the only palatable item we ordered. Not sure if it was an off night due to it being busy on a Friday evening or what. Tho note: the beer cheese is runny even tho the flavor was decent. The mustard sauce was fantastic. Started the meal with drinks and the appetizer. There was something very off about the grey goose dirty martini -- maybe the olive juice was off or turned. It was smooth but tasted weird. We didn't send it back, but wasn't enjoyable. The Aperol spritz was good; as was the MI Old fashioned. Asked the waiter for recommendations because the menu is overwhelming. He recommend the French Sip, so ordered that, the Pimento chicken sandwich, and another grilled chicken sandwich. Next tried an espresso martini. Waiter asked if we wanted it with cream - said yes. Big mistake! It was put in with "extra cream" so then it was just like a glass of cream -- ick! Barely any coffee flavor; but still burned going down. Sent that back and it was taken off the bill. Don't want to even bother trying another one! Server thankfully took it off the bill. Food arrived. We paid extra to substitute a garden salad with the chicken sandwiches. They never came out. Just got the sandwiches. Very disappointed since I prefer to eat the salad before my meal. At least the server took the up charge off the bill and cancelled the salads. The French dip had NO flavor. The au juice was like hot salty water; no beef flavor. Asked for the horseradish aioli on the side -- it was like straight Mayo. Absolutely no kick. The fries were nothing special. The grilled chicken sandwich was okay. The pretzel bun was delicious -- soft but substantial enough to stand up on a sandwich. chicken had a fine flavor but was rubbery. The "thick cut" bacon was not thick and tasted like cheap bacon, if you know what I mean. The waiter offered us a 25% discount off the food which was appreciated but not adequate. We took his recommendation to our detriment. Again, not on him that the food/kitchen was not up to par, but we will not be back. For the 3 of us, our bills were almost $100. And we tipped 10% on the pre-discounted amount. Take this for what it's worth. There are lots of positive reviews -- hopefully that will be your experience. read more

Consistently bad and rude service. Food is fine but went down in quality recently imo. Server was sitting on her phone in clear view of our table while we could also see our drinks waiting by the bar, ice melting and all. Are they not training staff? Is there no management? Genuinely cannot fathom how they run on a daily basis, every time we've gone the service has gotten worse. read more

So glad to finally get here! It's been on our list forever, especially after we met the owner at Perrin's backyard bash a while back! I read up on some reviews, and there was quite the mixture, so I really didn't know what to expect! Drinks I had a Caramel Apple Sucker cocktail (complete with an actual caramel apple sucker!) and Derek had a beer. The cocktail was delicious, and tasted like a decent pour! Food I got the shrimp alfredo- I really liked the red peppers in the dish- sometimes I think they overpower other flavors, but they complimented perfectly in this dish! Derek got the Bang Bang Chicken Za (voted best pizza in GR!) It was so flavorful, although the crust was a little soft on the bottom for my liking, but that's inevitable really, with how many toppings they pile on that bad boy. Overall, I have only good things to say! Good food, good drinks, good vibes! read more

Stopped in here randomly with the husband and was pleasantly surprised to find out that we were on time for happy hour! We ordered the calamari, I had a burger, and the husband got a pizza. Our calamari was crispy on the outside, yet tender on the inside. I liked that it also came with tempura peppers and olives - this was something we had never seen before, but the flavors paired well with the calamari. My burger came medium rare (just how I like it), and the burger was so thick, I could only eat half (yay for lunch the next day)! Husband's personal pizza came with some hefty amounts of goat cheese, thin crust well done, so it was crispy, crunchy, and delicious. We had always wondered what Arnie's became, and now we know! No wonder this place is always busy - it's good! read more

Oh man, hubs and I were so excited to try this place. Super cool atmosphere. Excellent lunch menu. Nice beer list with good prices. HOWEVER, we sat at the bar and ordered grilled cheeses and tomato soup. Took FOREVER to get our lunch. Bartender only acknowledged our wait after she heard me complain. Grilled cheese was good but a little too greasy. Tomato soup was probably the worst I have ever had. Funky taste and a very gritty, chewy texture. So gross. read more

Amazing food and great drinks. My son said it was the best chicken sandwich he ever ate (and he is picky)

Food was great! Really enjoyed the spinach & artichoke appetizer and the grilled chicken with asparagus, goat cheese and fig jam. I had the lake perch with fries, nachos, and crème brûlée and it was all high-quality. Customers seemed to be here for totally different reasons - some hung at the bar with open laptops, while others were eating meals with friends or family. Take note that they *are* really proud of that cheese sauce, and it seems to come with a lot of dishes. I'll also admit that I came here wanting this to be the Arnie's I remembered from the past, just with a different interior design. It isn't that. But it's still a great contemporary dining experience, and it's not really fair to compare the two. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised at my experience at Beer City Bread! First of all, the space is massive. I'd never been to this location before, but I didn't expect it to be such a large space. The seating is varied and the spot feels pretty cozy yet bright. There is an Instagrammable wall in the back towards the restrooms. I liked the big industrial mixer up front, I thought it was a unique touch. Nate and I stopped in for their incredible happy hour deals, which run Monday through Friday from 4-6 pm and again from 9-11 pm. These days I'm more into the food specials, and they have a lot of them at Beer City Bread: $4 items include fries and crostini, $5 items are beer bread pizza and a pulled pork sandwich. For $6 you can get a burger, boneless wings, a fresh veggie flight, or truffle fries. $7 gets you beer infused pretzel bites or green chile pork nachos, $8 for flash fried butterfly shrimp, and $9 for beer braised wings or a beef tenderloin sandwich. Wow! These prices really can't be beat. The happy hour drinks menu includes a few $6 cocktails, $1 off all Michigan drafts, shot + pop for $3.50, and $2.50 off domestic beers. We ordered the beer braised wings and green chile pork nachos from our super friendly server. The wings were definitely my favorite - they seemed a little overcooked at first glance, but the meat was tender and juicy. The sauces come on the side - the bang bang sauce was our favorite. The green chile pork nachos were a nice portion but a little lacking in flavor. I found the beer cheese sauce to be pretty bland, but the pork was tender and juicy as well and the toppings were fresh and tasty. I'd order them again but probably ask for some hot sauce next time. I've also had their $5 beer bread pizza before and it was really good! It's like a French bread pizza but is a big size for only $5. Beer City Bread is definitely a great spot to grab some snacks during happy hour. I was also impressed by the large dinner menu. Options like pretzel encrusted walleye, porterhouse steak, bone in NY strip and a thick cut bone in ribeye are pretty elevated choices and definitely something I'd like to try in the future. read more

One of my favorite restaurants for an American meal. The restaurant is too noisy for me so I always do takeout. They have a nice variety including some of the dishes of the former Arnies.
