Unfortunately the service at our last on June 23, 2026, was not as pleasant at in the past. Not was our server (Grace) really not interested in serving my wife and I, but you could see the same throughout the staff. I met a friend here for a belated birthday dinner. I arrived first and was impressed on how large of a space they have. It was a sunny day and all of the windows are full of sunshine, which was nice but a little warm. We seated in a booth and was impressed by the wide array of happy hour items as well as an extensive menu. Our server was friendly if not overly attentive. Our food came out fast. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and upgraded to sweet potato fries and my friend got one of their seasonal offerings, a bowl with sweet potato, quinoa and other autumn veggies. The food was good. Grilled chicken is not particularly exciting, but it was done well. The sweet potatoes were a little disappointing. I was here El was the bartender and had a Blue Moon and pizza. I wish I had taken pics, but sometimes I fail and this is one of those times. There was a problem with the order El was beyond gracious with me as a customer. I had the Goat pizza which if I wasn't in my upper 40s, overweight and on a statin I would eat every single day! I've been here before for lunch, and it's been great. I think the key is not go during a busy weekend. We went for dinner on a Saturday in May with several college graduations happening. I had made a reservation weeks prior. Upon arriving, the line was out the door. We waited for 10-15 minutes before getting up to the hostess stand. The hostess admitted that the manager made them take all walk-ins even though they had many reservations that night so they were behind. We were seated approximately 20 minutes after our reservation. It was an hour and a half later that we got our food, and we ordered soon after sitting. Our server was frazzled. My asparagus was charred black. Boneless wings were dry. My walleye was delicious. I really wanted to love this place! It's in a decent location right next to the Woodland mall and has ample parking. The inside is pretty cute; it has a lot of natural lighting. When I went, it was later and not super busy. Despite this, our server was very slow with getting to us for drinks and our food order wasn't taken for at least 30 minutes. We didn't end up getting our food until 50 minutes into our time there. Once the food did come, it was good! The beer cheese wasn't my favorite, but that's only because I'm a cheese snob! Beer City took me and my friends in one warm summer night and treated us... well, no, I treated them to an evening out. But we all celebrated being at this nice tasty place. In order: * Beer: Good variety. A lot of locals on tap, prices are reasonable. They were out of the raspberry ale my friend wanted, but that happens. * City: Feels a bit steely inside. They went for modern but it's a combination of lighting and decor, open kitchen... in the end I'm not a big fan of the ambiance. Service was fine, nothing special there. * Bread: There's a reason they are named for the bread. It's incredible. My friend requested the table bread, since it's by request only, and we got plenty of the delicious cheese bread that is a starter. You want this. Request as much as they'll give you, and then keep requesting. The other foods were OK - hot honey was a bit on the breaded side and the fries were thin, resulting in them becoming oily and overdone. Fresh, sure. Overall solid, I think the table bread sets the bar a little too high for the rest of the experience. read more

I have fond memories of going to Arnie's with my grandparents as a kid, so Beer City Bread has a special place in my heart! The decor is very cool and industrial; it is a fun place to go on a date, out for drinks with friends, or even out to dinner with family. I've actually done all three lol! The service is usually pretty good, sometimes a little slow. The food is overall very tasty if you are a "normal" eater. My husband is particularly obsessed with the whiskey cake. Unfortunately, I am a "funny tummy" girlie, which means I avoid gluten. Their gluten-free options are limited, and they often run out. Couple pet peeves. 1) they served our meal without having settings on the table and we had to ask for it twice; and 2) the wasn't any salt or pepper and again, it to 2 asks to get it. This is based on my meal alone. I ordered the perch dinner as the touted it as the best. It was not. I am pretty sure it was not yellow lake perch. The filets were way too long and thin. The lunch specials were such a great deal with huge portions. Pick a sandwich and pair it with a soup or salad for under $13. I really enjoyed my hot honey/jalapeño fried chicken sandwich! I upgraded to truffle fries which had great flavor but the majority of them were soggy, which was a bummer. The sandwich wasn't spicy at all but had great flavor from the hot honey and fresh salsa. Our server was very attentive and was great about answering questions on the menu, making recommendations, etc. That being said, we do not recommend this place other than the beer pretzel appetizer -- which was the only palatable item we ordered. Started the meal with drinks and the appetizer. There was something very off about the grey goose dirty martini -- maybe the olive juice was off or turned. It was smooth but tasted weird. We didn't send it back, but wasn't enjoyable. The Aperol spritz was good; as was the MI Old fashioned. Asked the waiter for recommendations because the menu is overwhelming. He recommend the French Sip, so ordered that, the Pimento chicken sandwich, and another grilled chicken sandwich. Next tried an espresso martini. Waiter asked if we wanted it with cream - said yes. Big mistake! It was put in with "extra cream" so then it was just like a glass of cream -- ick! Barely any coffee flavor; but still burned going down. Sent that back and it was taken off the bill. Don't want to even bother trying another one! Server thankfully took it off the bill. Food arrived. We paid extra to substitute a garden salad with the chicken sandwiches. They never came out. Just got the sandwiches. Very disappointed since I prefer to eat the salad before my meal. At least the server took the up charge off the bill and cancelled the salads. The French dip had NO flavor. The au juice was like hot salty water; no beef flavor. Asked for the horseradish aioli on the side -- it was like straight Mayo. Absolutely no kick. The fries were nothing special. The grilled chicken sandwich was okay. The pretzel bun was delicious -- soft but substantial enough to stand up on a sandwich. chicken had a fine flavor but was rubbery. The "thick cut" bacon was not thick and tasted like cheap bacon, if you know what I mean. The waiter offered us a 25% discount off the food which was appreciated but not adequate. We took his recommendation to our detriment. Again, not on him that the food/kitchen was not up to par, but we will not be back. For the 3 of us, our bills were almost $100. And we tipped 10% on the pre-discounted amount. Take this for what it's worth. There are lots of positive reviews -- hopefully that will be your experience. read more

So glad to finally get here! It's been on our list forever, especially after we met the owner at Perrin's backyard bash a while back! I read up on some reviews, and there was quite the mixture, so I really didn't know what to expect! Drinks I had a Caramel Apple Sucker cocktail (complete with an actual caramel apple sucker!) and Derek had a beer. The cocktail was delicious, and tasted like a decent pour! Food I got the shrimp alfredo- I really liked the red peppers in the dish- sometimes I think they overpower other flavors, but they complimented perfectly in this dish! Derek got the Bang Bang Chicken Za (voted best pizza in GR!) It was so flavorful, although the crust was a little soft on the bottom for my liking, but that's inevitable really, with how many toppings they pile on that bad boy. Stopped in here randomly with the husband and was pleasantly surprised to find out that we were on time for happy hour! We ordered the calamari, I had a burger, and the husband got a pizza. Our calamari was crispy on the outside, yet tender on the inside. I liked that it also came with tempura peppers and olives - this was something we had never seen before, but the flavors paired well with the calamari. My burger came medium rare (just how I like it), and the burger was so thick, I could only eat half (yay for lunch the next day)! Husband's personal pizza came with some hefty amounts of goat cheese, thin crust well done, so it was crispy, crunchy, and delicious. We had always wondered what Arnie's became, and now we know! Oh man, hubs and I were so excited to try this place. Super cool atmosphere. Excellent lunch menu. Nice beer list with good prices. HOWEVER, we sat at the bar and ordered grilled cheeses and tomato soup. Took FOREVER to get our lunch. Bartender only acknowledged our wait after she heard me complain. I was very pleasantly surprised at my experience at Beer City Bread! First of all, the space is massive. I'd never been to this location before, but I didn't expect it to be such a large space. The seating is varied and the spot feels pretty cozy yet bright. There is an Instagrammable wall in the back towards the restrooms. I liked the big industrial mixer up front, I thought it was a unique touch. Nate and I stopped in for their incredible happy hour deals, which run Monday through Friday from 4-6 pm and again from 9-11 pm. These days I'm more into the food specials, and they have a lot of them at Beer City Bread: $4 items include fries and crostini, $5 items are beer bread pizza and a pulled pork sandwich. For $6 you can get a burger, boneless wings, a fresh veggie flight, or truffle fries. $7 gets you beer infused pretzel bites or green chile pork nachos, $8 for flash fried butterfly shrimp, and $9 for beer braised wings or a beef tenderloin sandwich. Wow! These prices really can't be beat. The happy hour drinks menu includes a few $6 cocktails, $1 off all Michigan drafts, shot + pop for $3.50, and $2.50 off domestic beers. We ordered the beer braised wings and green chile pork nachos from our super friendly server. The wings were definitely my favorite - they seemed a little overcooked at first glance, but the meat was tender and juicy. The sauces come on the side - the bang bang sauce was our favorite. The green chile pork nachos were a nice portion but a little lacking in flavor. I found the beer cheese sauce to be pretty bland, but the pork was tender and juicy as well and the toppings were fresh and tasty. I'd order them again but probably ask for some hot sauce next time. I've also had their $5 beer bread pizza before and it was really good! It's like a French bread pizza but is a big size for only $5. Beer City Bread is definitely a great spot to grab some snacks during happy hour. I was also impressed by the large dinner menu.
