    Birria egg rolls
    Leslie A.

Came here on a Friday night for a bachelorette party small group of us and I believe there were reservations for us. We got a great round table in the back, which was one table away from the DJ. The menu is small, but mighty and fierce. Let me tell you. There is enough choices and options whether you're vegetarian or not and the pizza combinations and the different takes on foods is really quite creative for example to have Birria eggrolls what a fusion and what a concept but it works really well tasty The pizzas were really awesome Detroit style very something I like. Sauces were very generous as well and toppings too, so there was no hunting for meat. The service was really nice and very patient with us, which was great As soon as the DJ started, whoever that guy was that night he was amazing and awesome, and everybody was dancing. I don't believe you were supposed to be dancing, but no one said to stop. This place is located downtown Grand Rapids easily accessible by foot, especially if you're staying in the nearby hotel

A fun find fittingly found is The Foolery! They're making Detroit style pizza with all those good crusty, crunchy, caramelized-cheesy corners that make you want Detroit 'za in the first place. But unlike the other guys, Foolery's has mastered a Detroit style pan pizza that doesn't arrive in a pool of grease. No orange drips when you lift a slice to take a bite! Full bar. Paid parking on the street or in the nearby ramps.

I'm so glad I finally got to try this place! I got the birria egg rolls which were amazing and still hot when it came out. If you're not sure what to get, you must try this! They have a lot of creative pizza options that you won't find anywhere else. For example, Big Mac inspired pizza? Yum! My friend got that and I tried hers and loved it. It came out with 6 slices so definitely shareable or you can save the leftovers for later. We went during their happy hour so I got a slice of the Detroit style pizza for only $5 and a margarita for $9. Their other happy hour options include $9 palomas and $1 off all draft beers or a pizza + beer + Jameson shot for $10! I gotta say the food, atmosphere and staff were amazing and I will definitely be back to try the other delicious menu options.

I always LOVE a great Detroit Style pizza and given that this is the sister restaurant to Social Misfits, I definitely was excited to try it! It's definitely more of a higher end pizza joint meets a dive, but is right smack dab in the middle of downtown GR. You're paying $20-$25 per pizza with 6 pieces and they're definitely unique. I've tried the Barbara Ann and MCDC pizzas and two shareables: the hot honey roasted carrots and roasted cauliflower. I'll start with the apps: both were great! I really loved the roasted carrots. But when you put both side by side, the cauliflower lacks flavor in comparison. Which is just because you have something that is so flavorful to something a bit more subtle. But both were quite enjoyable. Now to the pizzas: AMAZING crust and very flavorful. Both pizzas are HEAVY on sauces. MCDC was doused in buffalo (it was way too much for me and I like buffalo) and the Barbara Ann had a pineapple sauce which helped add a sweetness to the pizzas. Just feel like it's too saucy for me, and I want to enjoy the toppings, the flavor of the bread and CHOOSE to dip it into a sauce to control. I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to go back because I'm actually not a saucy on top pizza gal, but if this is your jam, I'd say roll with it. Maybe I'll just go back and try the cheese bread since there is no sauce on it!

FLAT TOP TABLE BREAD with hot honey and garlic ranch

We tried The Foolery out on a Thursday night. They do not take any reservations, but luckily it was not too crowded. The food was pretty good. We had an appetizer of the Flat Top table bread with hot honey and garlic ranch. The bread was way too crispy and not that great. But the ranch dip was fantastic. For our pizza, we chose the Meat-Za with Pepperoni, Salami, Capicola, Bacon, Foolery Marinara, Mozzarella. It was very tasty! Not too greasy. Perfect crust and lots of toppings. The beer selection is kind of minimal. But they have a good selection of unique cocktails. I tried Tom's Mischief (Aperol Ice Cream, Aperol, Prosecco, Olive Oil, Pinch of Salt). I enjoyed it very much! The atmosphere is fun and service was prompt. I would like to come back again and try another type of pizza. Really, the only disappointment was the table bread.

Wanted to try Detroit Style Pizza and found The Foolery. Place was dead on a Tuesday night but they did have live music. Sat at the bar and ordered the Birria Tacos which were good and The Large Marge pizza without balsamic but added Capicola. Very tasty and better than Chicago deep dish in my opinion. Movies were playing in the bar which sports would have been better but I did not ask. Would come back if I wanted pizza. Live music was nice but surprised how dead downtown Grand Rapids is.

The Electric Forest (front) and the Large Marge

As die hard Social Misfits fans, we were willing to try anything they came up with. But an upscale dive bar is kindddddd of our niche Throw in some deep dish pizza, and we're 100% sold. I will say I don't know if "upscale dive bar" is exactlyyyy the vibes. There are definitely some "dive bar esque" touches. It's very similar to Social Misfits, and feels more like a cocktail bar, but we liked it, nonetheless. The service was great, everyone was very kind and attentive. We got drinks and pizza and were in and out in about an hour probably. I ordered the Tom's Mischief as a cocktail- it had ICE CREAM in it. Enough said. The pizza itself was classic detroit style, and absolutely delicious. I had the Electric Forest, and Derek had the Large Marge. Different flavor profiles, but both were fantastic. We probably could've ordered one and split it, but were happy to take home leftovers.

New pizza place in town is GOOOOD! In the location of where Wahlburgers used to be is the new sister of Social Misfits serving up detroit style pizza in a fun eccentric venue. Finally was able to check this place out and was already so excited by the cool decor and fun art all around me. The host was extremely welcoming and we were seated immediately. For drinks, I enjoyed my "Diver down" and it was absolutely wonderful! For an appetizer, we ordered the Cheesi Arancheeni and loved them! My friends told me they liked their brussel sprouts as well. For pizzas, my boyfriend loved his Basic B and I truly enjoyed my Electric Forest. The garlic confit and truffle oil mixed well with the mushrooms. Chefs kiss! My friends loved their hot chicken pizza and finished it! I would love to come back and try more of their menu someday soon! I saw alot more shareables and pizzas on the menu as well as some salad and even dessert! Check this place out if you like pizza!!!!!

Hot Chicken Pizza and Pastie #1 (Sausage & Rice)
    Kyle V.

We were excited to try a new spot in the heart of downtown GR! The staff was fantastic throughout our entire meal and the atmosphere of the restaurant was fun and inviting. We enjoyed looking around and finding all the random things hanging on the wall. We ordered the Hot Chicken Pizza and the Pastie #1 which was sausage and rice. We didn't realize it came with 2 small pasties rather than a traditional large one like you'd see in the upper peninsula. It came with marinara dipping sauce which was interesting because they'd probably kick you out of the U.P. if you did that! These weren't traditional pasties in anyway so I guess they get a pass. The pizza was delicious and the perfect size to share with 2 people. It would be nice to have more people to try a variety so that's the goal next time. I felt the pizza could have been cooked a little longer to get the dough crispier but the topping were cooked nicely so I understand why they pulled it. The hot honey had a very mild kick to it that we didn't even really taste until our second piece. Overall, an interesting menu, fun dining room, and friendly staff. We enjoyed our lunch and will definitely come back.

We have been wanting to try The Foolery and I'm so glad we did. The atmosphere is fun and eccentric. The vibes are 10/10. We were there on a Friday night at 6pm and it did get pretty loud. And because it's downtown GR, there is no free parking. There is a parking garage right across the street and it was only $15. It makes it very convenient to get to The Foolery! Drinks - I had the Faygo red pop mocktail drink. It was ok but not the best mocktail I've had. My bf had the space machine beer and loved it. We did not get an appetizer because we order two pizzas! My bf had the Al Pastor pizza. I tried it and we both loved it and finished it! It is spicier than anticipated. We like spice but it's spicy! That sauce is so good whatever it is! I had the Meatza pizza. You can tell the meat was quality. I also really liked the taste of the pizza sauce. It tasted very fresh and homemade. The crust on the Detroit style pizza is unreal. So crispy and cooked perfectly. We wanted to order the doughnuts for dessert but forgot. I am so sad we forgot but definitely trying those next time!! Our waiter was so awesome. He was very attentive to our party of 4 and always made sure our drinks were full. There are bathrooms and they were very clean. We would definitely visit again for the pizza!

After a terrible experience at a business nearby where I got no service, and thus, no food, I was walking back to my hotel and needed to pick up some late night food (for whatever reason the hotel stopped serving food at 9 p.m. and it was running closer to 10 p.m. at this point). This place had the lights on and decent reviews on Yelp, so I stopped in to see if I could get a slice of pizza to tide me over until the morning. It took awhile for someone to notice me, but I eventually caught someone's attention and ordered a slice of pizza to go. Personally, this wasn't really my kind of pizza. It tasted sort of like those frozen french bread pizzas to me. The edges were burnt, but the sauce/cheese combination was tasty and at least I didn't go to bed hungry.

I went on a Friday night and sat at the bar and had a great experience! I started with the Pookie's Favorite cocktail and it was great! Slightly tart, but very refreshing and light. I then asked the bartender for his recommendations and he said that the Birria Egg Rolls were so popular that they regularly sell out of them. I obviously then needed to try some for myself. I also ordered the aranchini, because when I see aranchini on a menu, I get it every time. The birria egg rolls were super yummy. Very crunchy and flavorful. I can see why they're as popular as the are. The aranchini took a while to come out. The bartender comped them from my bill and also got me a free drink for the wait which was so sweet. The aranchini was okay. I felt like they were a little on the salty side, and there wasn't as much cheese in the rice balls as I would've expected. I also feel like the sauce could've used a little more acid, but ultimately they were still decent. When the bartender asked me what I wanted for my 2nd drink, I saw that they had house made limoncello, so I asked if he could make me a limoncello spritz. He did, and it was fantastic! Super light and refreshing. I loved the vibe of this place! It's such a cool ambiance. I thoroughly enjoyed hanging at the bar, enjoying my cocktails and food, and watching Portlandia that they were playing on the TV. I'll totally be back!

It was a hot day, but after work the patio was out of the sun, so we opted for a table outside. The patio is cute. I like that there are a bunch of 2 person tables rather than large party tables, and the lights are nice. Our server was very pleasant. She definitely knew what she was talking about and was able to tell us if something was going to be super sweet, and which drinks were more popular. Also, after she seated us and gave us the menu she gave us a few minutes and came back with waters and little samples of lavender lemonade, which was really good! I ordered the rosemary gin fizz, and my friend ordered one of the zero proof mocktails. She was warned it would be sweet, and she said it was definitely sweet for her taste. I was told my gin fizz was a little sweet as well, but I didn't find it to be overly sweet. I thought it was really nicely balanced, and wasn't excessive on any of the individual flavors. I was hoping for a little more of a salted rim, but it had more of a decorative salt patch on the side. That's the only thing I would probably change about it. Oh, and it's called a fizz, but is definitely still, not sparkling. While we weren't there to eat, and it is a distillery, not a restaurant, I did expect to see a few more food options. I can't knock them for that though, as we didn't try any. Overall, I would go back here for a quick happy hour or to have a quick drink again before an event. I liked the space, the service was great, and the cocktail was really pleasant.
