I had take out during a work trip. The smashburger - DELICIOUS. It was perfect and a decent size. The fries were good. I ordered online and walked over to pick up from my hotel across the street. I was greeted when I walked in and then was directly to the other entrance for pick up orders. Oops. She was nice about it. I just don't recall seeing signage for the other entrance. The other entrance had a small pick up area. It took a few minutes after I rang the bell, as instructed by the sign, for someone to come and greet me. The food was packaged well. read more

Met some friends here before an event at Van Andel. The staff was awesome (thanks Wesley Q he was on top of it). The pizza was delicious and the cheesy breadsticks were also amazing and somehow were light and airy but full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Huge space we got seated right away but it started to fill up as we were leaving. Definitely will be a go to downtown spot. read more

Had a Saturday wedding in the hotel across the street from Peppinos. Friday night a group of us go there for a beer and the servers were immediately extremely rude to us. We were not rowdy due to having a wedding the next day, and couldn't figure out what we were doing to be so irritating to the wait staff. We were a larger group, but we all had seats either at the bar or the high top tables and some people stood directly next to the table to stretch their legs due to just traveling for the wedding. It was not a pleasant experience with the wait staff, but we continued on with our drink to two and left for the evening. We went over there Saturday for our last drink of the evening (10:30pm which is well within hours of operation of closing at 1am) and they REFUSED to serve us because our group was just SO disruptive the day before. I was mortified to hear how disruptive our group was. So, I talked with the hostess and then the bartender to figure out what happened the night before, so if there was an unpaid tab or something that I could pay for it and correct that error to make sure everything was handled appropriately. The hostess proceeds to tell me the only problem was that we cannot sit at the high top tables. Then, I conversed with the bartender, and she said we MUST sit at the high tops. But as for why we were so disruptive was because we were standing near the bar compared to sitting completely in chairs? It was bizarre and did not make any sense. We ordered the wedding late night pizza from there and it was just fine. We also were proceeded to get yelled at for just holding those Peppinos pizza boxes as leftovers to the bar. All in all, both nights the service was terrible and truly just rude. I do NOT recommend this place unless you want to get yelled at for being there :) read more

I came here on a Saturday night with a group of 8 at 7:30pm, and we had a reservation so our table was already set up. I shared boneless wings (12) in Korean BBQ and Garlic Parmesan flavors and a 12" Meaty 5-cheese pizza. Both were great! For the price of the boneless wings I think the size and quantity was fair. The pizza crust could have been a tiny bit crispier on the bottom, but with all the toppings it's nearly impossible for the pizza slice not to flop a little. I also tried their $9 espresso martini and was pleasantly surprised! I hadn't been here in awhile and it's a great sports bar staple in GR. read more

Regular in the area for work; stayed in the hotel across the street and since it was pouring rain, and decided to stay super local and just run across the street for a bite to eat with our group of 11. I had the 5-cheese meaty pizza, which was VERY good. However, my friend's lasagna looked amazing to the point of envy - I wished I'd ordered that. The pizza, although delicious, was lukewarm when it showed up, and it got cold pretty quickly. I agree with some other reviewers that if you're going to serve pizza on a raised metal platform, it shouldn't just be for show - put a candle or something under it to keep the pizza warm. The beer selection is very solid. I had a pint I thoroughly enjoyed. The service was quick with refills and attentive. I would like to go again and try that lasagna that has my eye. read more

While the name might imply a pizza place, Peppino's Pizza is a full-out sports bar with an extensive menu. I ordered the Beef Al Pastor Tacos for take away. It did not take too long to receive my order. I travel extensively, so I am sensitive to the time elapsed between order and receipt. Too fast means it is not prepared fresh. Too long means that there is an imbalance between orders and kitchen staff. The atmosphere was quite loud, which was understandable as there was an NFL game on. On a Sunday night, there were many customers, and they all appeared to have a great time. The reason I ordered the Beef Al Pastor Tacos is that the menu stated that this menu item had won a local award. For $13.99, these tacos are very good and well worth the price. The beef reminded me of pressure cooked beef with spices, very tender and filled with flavor. The onions, cilantro, and lime turned this street taco into a classic! read more

We stopped here for lunch before heading to the Christmas market. We chose this place since it is close to the Downtown market and one of few places open for lunch. We had a Maddalena salad, pizza bites, and a pizza. Everything was tasty. Our server was friendly and did a nice job. The food was a little slow to come out, but not too bad. This is definitely a sports bar with a TV at every table. We had no problem finding street parking midday on a Wednesday, but there is a parking structure next door. They have a small parking lot with 4 or 5 spots that are reserved for people picking up orders. The restrooms are up a flight of stairs so I'm not sure if they have any handicap-accessible bathrooms. read more

We had the "Kicken Bourbon wings" and pizza bites. Totally awesome! Tony and Liz (Mgr) went out of their way to make sure we were happy with our visit. Peppinos is perfect for watching that big sporting event with a big group. They take reservations and have an expansive menu of both food and bevs - everyone will find something they love. Their location is primo (close to Van Andel - so great for pre/post hockey game or another event). They are best at pizza, but do have lots of other bar food options as well - wings, tenders, etc. I almost always order the nachos - not super saucy... but a huge portion with either chicken or beef. There are TVs everywhere that display ALL the events. Last, it's a great spot for/with kids. It's loud and the tables are spaced out to where you'll never feel like younger kiddos will bother other tables - you'll be very comfortable there. And they do have kid menus. For parking you'll want to try and snag a spot along the street (free after 6p during the week and free all day on Sat/Sun). Otherwise there are lots and ramps very near the restaurant entrance. read more

Overall, I rated this a 3.5 experience for food, drinks and friendly, attentive service; cost average $8-10pp. We were searching for a quick snack, so a Large pizza hit the spot and was perfect to share for 4. Extra Cheese (plentiful) and Pepperoni was cooked perfectly with gooey cheese that I like - hit the spot! Craft and local beers were cold and complimented the pie! A large group of my friends and I were looking for a place to eat on a Friday night, and this place could take us in immediately. They have a ton of tables for big groups. I loved the different drinks they have, especially the large list of mule options. Their menu has something that would please everyone, it's not just a pizza place! I had the loaded Mac and cheese and it was awesome! Service was a little slow, but the staff was friendly. It's a little pricey, but not much more than you would expect for a downtown restaurant. I've been here a couple of times and my experience has been the same. This is the sports bar you go to when no one can decide what they want to eat but everyone is in the mood for big portions and fast service. The mozzarella sticks are by far the best thing on the menu. They are giant and always come out super hot. I highly recommend starting with these. I've ordered the burrito, the pizza, the nachos and the salads, the vegetarian options are pretty good if you keep in mind they are substitution friendly. All were large portions but nothing super special. If what you want is good bar food, this place will give you what you need. At night, there is a smaller menu so if you head over past 9 on a week might be prepared for a limited menu - but don't worry - the mozzarella sticks are still available. Went to grab pizza and a beer with a few friends on a Friday night. Bouncer checked everyone's ids with ease until I gave him mine. He repeatedly says "I can't take this" and I saw I'm 22 and show him credit cards in my name for further proof. (He didn't ask for anything additional I was just being proactive). Then he says, "this is fake can't take this". At this point I ask for a manger and even offered to call the non emergency line for an officer to confirm my age. The manger comes out looks at it for a few seconds then the bouncer says "look at this here" (At this point I believe he is making something up to cover himself). Then the manager goes "I trust u" to the bouncer. I repeat my age and try to show my credit cards and offered the manager to call the non emergency line to confirm if he's that suspicious. He repeats "I trust him it's his call". We were coming with 7 people would have been great business but obviously incompetency and egos got into the way. I've been a big fan of the downtown Peppino's since I moved to Grand Rapids many years ago. The atmosphere is great for families, young people, older people, sports fans, college kids, etc. It's not fine dining, gourmet food, but it's consistently good and I always know what to expect. I've been to Peppino's for birthdays, for late night food, to watch sporting events, for ArtPrize, for the lunch buffet... I could go on! They take reservations for large parties but this location can get pretty full on big game days. There are several large booths that all have their own TVs in them that you can tune to any channel, which is nice if you want to watch a less popular game when it's busy. It's a great place to watch a game as there are lots of huge TVs everywhere you look! I've always had great service whenever I've visited Peppino's and have never had any issues with wrong food or food that's not to temp or anything like that. I really like the wings at Peppino's--they're always crispy with just the right amount of sauce. I like the Asian sensation and the garlic parmesan best. My other favorite menu items include: +Nachos (great for sharing) +Pizza bites (legendary puffs of fried pizza dough! Pro tip, get all the sauces they offer--ranch, marinara, and nacho cheese...trust me) +Peppino's deluxe pizza (tons of toppings and great crust) I will say that I would probably skip the lunch buffet; it's a great value but when I tried it, some of the food seemed like it had been sitting out for awhile. Good pre-VanAndel Arena event restaurant. within walking distance to the arena. extremely busy so make an open table reservation so you don't have to wait as long. we arrived around 4:45-4:50 and did not have a reservation so had to wait 20 minutes for a seat even though there were multiple tables open. once we were seated service was good but once the food came there was no beverage refills or check-ins til the check. food was delicious...cobb salad with ranch (it comes with green goddess which was super tangy, not my thing). the spicy chicken sandwich special was a hit with my son. We've been going to peps for over a decade. It's really gone downhill. We were seated on the patio, our server dropped our drinks and then ghosted us. No sign of human life for 25+ minutes. Stuck our heads inside, staff was congregated behind the bar, and not a single one noticed me standing there. While I empathize with staffing shortages, there is really no excuse for not checking on a table for over 20 minutes before they've placed a food order. So we drove over to Uccellos where we had appetizers on our table within 7 minutes of being seated. read more

Visited here a couple weeks ago! I came in here pretty late and it was packed. I decided to sit at the bar cause I wanted to watch tv while I ate. I was greeted right away! Ordered a beer and waited a little bit. Ended up ordering the Chicken Fettucine Alfredo! Food came out pretty fast and wow! The presentation was awesome as you can see in the picture. The portion was perfect! I left full and happy. The flavor of the sauce and the chicken was amazing! The garlic bread that came with the meal was very tasty and had a lot of flavor. This location had so many things to choose from, it has pizza, pasta, sandwiches, wings, and much more. You are bound to find something you will enjoy. I came here a couple days later and had the pizza. It was amazing. Great flavor and great portion. The customer service both times was excellent and never had to ask for more drinks.
