A classic bar style pizza that is very good (not my style) with good crunch and good taste. I wasn't a fan of the crust personally, it's not your typical style pizza crust but that may be due to the "bar style" that the pizza resembles. Yes. 5 stars. They are a long time Holland staple. The staff is always hustling and slinging pizzas and drinks as fast as they can and they have a great attitude. I don't want to call this place diver but that's the best explanation. They are no frills. They have a decent selection of beer and seltzers. Their pizza is thin crust and crunchy and several options for toppings. They have a couple things that are not pizza. Their loaded nachos have a bunch of toppings including olives and mushrooms. Wow, is this place terrible. The pizza is tolerable, but way too expensive and super basic. Look at our picture and see if you can spot the itty bitty bits of onion or green pepper for which we paid 1.25 each. It's like they took a teaspoon of frozen onion and pepper mix from Meijer and tossed it on. It wasn't cute nearly all the way through, making eating it a pain. The fact that it was quite greasy and served on a cardboard circle made it impossible to cut with the utensils provided, so we had to grease up our hands to tear it apart. It was so poorly cut, it wouldn't tear along the cut lines. The service was lousy. We walked in on a Friday afternoon to an empty dining room, and no one greeted us. Eventually someone noticed us, but didn't bother to say hi. We were seated probably more than 15 minutes before someone finally came by to ask what we wanted to drink. Our waitress was audible in the next room complaining about a customer from some other time. Real charmer, she was. She brought our receipt and read the amount to us. Didn't show it to us. Was this her way of saying, "I'm done with my shift, so if I just tell you your amount, hopefully you'll pay immediately and I can leave." The food took another 15-20 minutes to come out -- it was a single pizza. The pepperoni and sausage (which tasted like store-bought breakfast sausage, the sort of flavor you've never had on a pizza) were in OK proportions, but the onion and pepper were, as noted above, pathetic. There are no napkins at the tables. They gave us teeny tiny paper plates for the food. I despise this place. It is so incredibly poorly done that I can't believe it's still in business. In fact, when we showed up -- as noted above -- the dining room was empty. On a sunny Friday summer afternoon, when Holland was quite busy, and other establishments had plenty of traffic. I think I know why. The locals know better than to come here. This is some of the worst money I've ever spent. What a terrible ending to an otherwise decent day in Holland. Do not come here. I can't rate the food or atmosphere, but I did find the service to be disappointing. I love pizza but I try to eat healthy, so for many years I have only been eating it rountinely 3 times per year and it's something I really look forward to . I eat it twice a year during summer vacations at Morro's in Saukatuck, who to me has the best pizza in the area, but are closed during the winter season. The 3rd time is always at Jets on Holloween, as we always have family and friends over to celebrate this Holiday. This year for Holloween, we decided to try a new pizza and decided on Skiles. I called them on my work lunch break to place the order, to be picked up at 5 by family on their way to my house. I was told by the person who answered the phone, that I was calling too early and that I couldn't call until 4:30 to place the order. I asked her if that was enought time to get the 3 pizza's ready by 5 and she said that maybe I should call at 4:15. I thought it was strange that I couldn't place the order, but I got out of work early, rushed home so I could place the order. For 30 minutes I called (close to 50 times), and the phone was either busy or someone answered it and hung up on me multile times. At 4:45 I gave up but was now in a panic trying to figure out what to do when guests were going to be at my house in 15 min. I ultimately called Jets and we were eating at 5:15. The whole experience was very stressful and disappointing for someone who is a planner and organized, I guess it's best to stick with what works. Skiles could have gained a new customer, but they lost that opportunity as I will never order from or vist this establishment. read more

WORST service ever !!! We walked in at 12:30, one person at the bar, one table of four in the dining area. Two people behind the bar, one was "bitching" about another employee to the other person. No one turned to greet us. The pizza is good and unique flat pizza. You will be surprised how much pizza you can eat. The service is slow and the beer is usually skunky but this location is a classic dive bar pizza and worth it. This is one of our favorite pizza's when people come to visit. It's actually fun to be there and amusing. The servers are grouchy but don't take it personal. I recommend this place if you can handle the paper plates experience. read more

The lady behind the bar on the first day of Tulip Festival was obviously frazzled and pissed off that she had to work. She was scooping ice out of the bin with a glass container repeatedly and slamming them down on the bar in front of us. When the glass inevitably broke, she just picked one piece of glass out of the ice and kept scooping ice with the next glass. When we told the gentleman behind the bar, he decided to get pissed AT US! So you apparently don't care about health and safety, and resent it when people complain. I had the Skiles special while on a walking food tour in Holland. The crust on the pizza was absolutely delicious, and while the toppings were good, they weren't my favorite. However, I think that might be an ordering fault of my own! I'm not a huge fan of sausage and pepperoni. The inside of the building looks like a classic pizza joint that you'd eat with your family. It has been around for over 70 years and it's a real staple of the community. The owner is super nice and always willing to tell you stories about the history of the restaurant. If you're in Holland and looking for a toasty pizza and a warm place to sit this is a great option. read more

We are from the area but had not tried Skiles, so after some positive recommendations we finally tried it. I can't quite understand why this place has so many 5 star ratings. We ordered 1 special and one pepperoni pizza. We waited a little less than an hour and the pepperoni came out hot but just barely done while the special came out cold and well done. The crust was cracker-like at the edges and soft in the middle,overall mediocre. Toppings were scarce on the pepperoni. I wouldn't call the atmosphere super inviting, no menus except for a sign on the wall, and after telling out waiter it was our first time all we got was "I'll give you a few minutes." My kids ordered a pizza with HAM and BANANA PEPPERS. it wasn't busy, nor noisy. They very clearly said banana peppers. The server brought ham and pineapple. She said ' we don't offer banana peppers, so I put on pineapple. This was our first time here, the kids assumed banana peppers were offered, she should have stated we don't offer banana peppers while they were ordering. Then she changed her story after I said 'they won't eat it' and she said 'well they ordered pineapple'. And she walked away. This was Monday approximately 5:00. They very clearly did not order pineapple. No substitutes were offered, and we paid full price for a pizza they had to scrape toppings off. Very poor customer service. And both pizzas were just ok. I've been coming here for years but no longer. First, the service tonight was extremely rude. We understand it's difficult to find help, but the way we were treated was unacceptable and we will not be going back. I understand how hard worked and understaffed the restaurant industry is but the rudeness is totally unnecessary particularly given we approached the wait staff with respect and understanding. We waited 25 minutes for the table to be cleared, which never was, and had to get up and find a server, then go to the bar.The bartender was extremely rude and I would suggest she was not self aware but she wore a "I hate people shirt", and boy was she right. Really a bit childish but I wouldn't care if she wasn't so rude. Word of advice, before eating go in the bathroom and understand that the people making your food are "cleaning" their hands in there. read more

The "Skiles Special", absolutely freaking delicious! It was crispy, hot, a little greasy and loaded with toppings, just the way it should be in my opinion. The drinks were properly poured (not skimpy at All) and the bar tender Ron was friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend this place. In 2013 I noticed there must had been a change in ownership or management because the pizza was absolutely terrible and there was no longer an actual menu. Wafer thin and limited selection of toppings. We have tried Skiles on numerous occasions and every time it has been pretty average. My issue is that the Pizza is so thin it's like the base is made with Phyllo pastry. Ok they are decent sized Pizzas but still you don't get a lot for your money. Also if you want to select your toppings, you have a very limited selection. So you get a very basic ultra thin pizza for the money. I've really tried to like this place since it has been around since the prehistoric age and is an institution, but I'm sorry, there are better places to eat pizza. read more

Was walking around Holland with a bunch of friends and we felt like having pizza. We called and they were able to accommodate us with 15 people! We ordered chips and salsa and a large pepperoni and a large sausage pizza. Everything was so so good. Great service! We demolished everything. I highly recommend this pizza place. So happy I stopped in to this no frills pizza bar during my vacation to Holland. This place definitely gives off college bar vibes and I assume Hope College students frequent this place. The menu is simple and hanging on the wall. Pizza, sandwiches, and tacos thats it! My group ordered two large pizzas (one sausage/bacon, one Pep/onion) and a pitcher of beer, Miller Lite of course, but they have some craft options as well. The pizza was AMAZING. The crust was perfectly crisp and cut into tiny squares making it super easy to eat. The cheese was generously applied, but not overpowering. The true star of the pizza in my opinion was the sausage which had great flavor and worked great with the bacon and tangy pizza sauce! A fun little quirk about this place is that instead of to-go pizza boxes, you get tin foil to wrap your pizza up to take home. This was a truly delightful bar with top notch pizza, I would love to come back to drink some beers and enjoy delicious pizza. read more

What a great find. We were in town for the Tulip Festival and wanted to get a bite to eat. Their menu couldn't be more simple. Pizza, taco's or sandwiches. Ima deep dish girl from the Metro Detroit area, but this pizza was very flavorful and the crust was nic lay done with the perfect crisp to the underside. You received a very generous pour. TL;DR Bad pizza, worse service, and our group was threatened because we were falsely accused of not tipping enough on our bill. Came here with my family for some pizza and beer. Bartender lets us know they're busy, and things may take a little while because they're swamped. We say we understand, we know how working in food service is. We put in our order for 3 pizzas and beer. Beer arrives, and we wait for our food. For 2 hours. Have to go back up to the bar for any refills (which also take over 15 minutes to get served at the bar). Finally, we decide to pay and ask for our pizzas to go instead. Bill is $100, we still tip 20% even though she didn't deserve it. As we are getting up to leave, one woman at the bar accuses us of only tipping $4, and the bartender corroborates her lie! Even though we have the receipt to prove otherwise! Two men from the pool table block the entrance and start threatening a fight! We throw another $20 on the bar to avoid a physical altercation and ultimately they let us leave. Will NEVER come back here again, and would highly caution anyone who is thinking about trying this place. Not only is the food and service horrible, it is downright dangerous. read more

Once we placed our order watched as the person bringing out the pizza stopped at 2 other tables (of the 5- including us) before reaching us. That was the last we saw of her or our waitress. I cannot speak for the food, but we had the rudest customer service I have ever experienced. Off the bat it seemed fine. We were seated and able to order our pizza. After waiting an hour we spoke up and asked about our food. The waitress right away was rude, and without apologizing told us that there were a lot of take out orders. Being told that we spoke about how we were unaware that the wait for food would be this long, and she should have told us the wait times. Instantly she snapped back, that she didn't need to tell us the wait times on food. That alone would have been enough to make the experience unpleasant, however her attitude continued. We mentioned to her that we didn't know the food would be this long, and we had to be somewhere else. Without an apology she proclaimed how it was a Saturday night and we should have planned better, and we should have known since it's a Saturday night. After her attitude, our appetite was completely lost. Needless to say I have never experienced worst customer service that I had at Skiles. We left since we were treated so poorly why should I support a restaurant that can't even respect their customers. Run don't walk away from this place. read more
