Tucked away in a little strip mall, this was a very unassuming restaurant but we walked right into a little lunch rush. And yet, we got our food within 10-15 minutes. The inside reminds me of a diner a little bit, with the retro-style pleather seats and the Coke brand napkin holders. Had to take a picture of it just because I liked it! Food. The star of the show. AMAZING garlic bread. I had mine leftover the next day and it was still fantastic. There's definitely fresh garlic tucked into the cheese there. I split a 12 inch meat lovers pizza with my partner. Probably the best pizza in Holland. Cases can be made for other locations but I tend to find my favorite pizzas here. There is a lengthy selection of specialty pizzas....including some abominations but hey, I respect the innovation and novelty of them. SUPER IMPRESSED with this pizza place! I've got to say I'm disappointed in myself for not trying it sooner. We went there last night and ordered from their huge menu of delicious food and we got three 7" pizzas, two breadstix orders, and two fountain drinks for barely over $20! Seriously great prices for what you're eating! Loved their green bean casserole pizza so much and will definitely be back to try all the sweet breadstix flavors they have to offer! Ask any high schooler or college student in the area where the best breadsticks in town are and chances are high they'll say Sluggo's. It has a place in the heart of locals who remember going to its old location by the state park after a day at the beach and getting ice cream. I'll admit, not the best customer service. My family has acquired some pretty poor experiences over the years - mostly when they've forgotten to put our order into the kitchen. But I'm young so not having super friendly waitstaff isn't so important for me at a quick service pizza place. Now I only get takeout but the price is right and the fun stix menu can't be beat! The worst. We got a taco pizza and said no jalapeños, and the waiter just ignored us and put it on there anyway, you feel like they don't care for you. One of the best parts of my weekend in Michigan was this non-planned, spontaneous pick for dinner on a Sunday night, with kids. I didn't know what to expect when we decide to stop here, I was actually pretty satisfied with finding out that it wasn't necessarily a sit in a restaurant. Rather, you order what you want on the counter and they bring it out to you or you can take it to go. We ordered and sat in, they brought our food out to us when it was ready. Let's talk about the prices, because that was my most favorite thing with taking two teenagers. Super affordable! The kids were each able to get a 7 inch pizza that included a huge side of breadsticks and a drink for under $7. It was one of their specials. I had the small antipasto salad, which was pretty large and only ran me $5.50! This was a Keto- friendly item. And, they offer you all the dipping sauces you want at no extra charge. They had marinara, ranch, and Italian dressing dips available. Pepsi fountain drinks are available, refills are free. There is a counter where you could get your utensils, napkins, Parmesan cheese, extra plates. They also have a large ice cream menu and serve shaved ice. We didn't get to try either of these, but the prices look very affordable as well. I'm giving it a four stars instead of five because the lock on the door for the women's restroom did not work. Oh Sluggos pizza, you did me dirty. My tears have run dry by this point. Not once but twice have i been left fighting demons in the bathroom after enjoying the $7 student deal. Not only did the worker that brought us our food have airpods in (she must've been listening to eminem's latest mixtape) she messed up our orders. our friend who went to cure his hangover, used four cups of marinara, he has not left the bathroom since we got home, we're not sure if it was the thin layer of grease on the pizza or the marinara. who knew having that much marinara could be lethal, he got lost in the sauce. my friend ordered pb & j breadsticks, it was more j than pb. in fact, there was no pb at all. i'm convinced that they layered powdered sugar on the top to trick us into forgetting about pb. my friend plays football, he needs the protein from pb, he will not be able to lift heavy tomorrow because he didn't get protein. smh. Very disappointed after ready so many good reviews. I will say that the all the staff were very young (no manager?) so maybe we went on an off day when the kids were left to run the place. Tables dirty had to ask to get it wiped off. Bread sticks were cook just beyond raw dough, not good. Pizza was hot but the bottom again was almost raw dough. It was like they cook it from the top and the dough never gets done on the bottom. Real bummer as we were really looking for a good pizza. read more

It's been awhile, Yelp. But I'm bringing it back...and what better way than with PIZZA: my all-time favorite food group. I've been doing well, obeying my wifely duties by making dinner for my man since he works hard and deserves to come home to a nice meal. However, everyone needs a break, and pizza is always my first carryout/deliver choice. So on our way home from buying a new couch (more on that later!), we dialed Sluggo's up, put our order in, and they said 15-20 minutes. Cool. About 7 minutes later, we got there, waited for what seemed like 2.5 minutes, and the gal in the kitchen came out with our pizza! Sweet! By the time we got home, our pie was the perfect temperature to consume, and so consume we did. Mmmm! Doughy crust with a little bit of crisp around the edges, super cheesy, fresh spinach and pepperoni with just the right amount of kick! We ordered a large, which comes cut pie-style, and lucky for us, we couldn't finish it off, so we'll have delicious leftovers for tomorrow. Only thing I really didn't dig? How limp the crust became underneath the toppings. Bummer. Soggy and lifeless. How 'bout something to support the tastiness? Definitely worth another non-home-cooked meal night. read more

So apparently trying to find a pizza joint in the Grand Haven/Holland area that is open on a Sunday is really hard to accomplish. After several failed attempts at finding a pizza joint we stumbled upon this establishment. First of all we were just excited that it was actually open. When you walk up they have two entrances. One is labeled for Sluggo's and the other is for some Hawaiian Shaved Ice (they are connected on the inside). When we walked up to the counter to place our order a girl came out of the back and asked if we were ready. Of course being our first time it took us a few minutes to decide on what we wanted. She patiently waited for us and was friendly during the process. We both got a 7" specialty pizza and an order of cheese bread. Typically when I order an appetizer I prefer it come out well before the main meal. This was not the case today. It came out just 2 minutes before our pizza arrived. The cheese bread was good. I liked it mucho! The pizza was tasty too. It wasn't anything that blew me away, but it was still good and made me happy to consume. The dinning room was clean for the most part. I did notice some crumbs on two tables around us, but nothing out of the norm other that perhaps a lazy employee. The décor is nothing special. It's your typical pizzeria located in a strip mall. The prices were good. I feel that $5 for a 7" pizza is very fair. read more

Several years ago this was a routine stop of mine on my way out the state park to do some fishing. Since I moved back to Holland I've thought several times that I should go back to see if their barbeque chicken pizza is as good as I remember. Well, today while fishing at the state park I got hungry and immediately thought about Sluggo's and knew I'd be checking them out for my supper. Since I'd been craving it I got a barbeque chicken pizza. Surprisingly it lived up to my high expectations. I say surprisingly because it seems like it's rare that things are as good as I remember them being when I haven't had them in years. The reason I'm only giving them 4 stars is because of the crust. On the negative side it was pretty much flavorless to me (I shoud point out though that I smoked for 34 years so it could be that all that abuse I did to my body negatively affected my taste buds so I may be wrong about the crust lacking flavor). However, to be fair though I have to admit that it was a nice moist crust and not a dried out chewy mess like most places serve. Overall even though I'm knocking a star off for the crust I still considered it good since it was moist and did not remind me of chewing on cardboard like other places. One thing I'd forgotten about this place was the fact that they seem to always have young females working there whenever I stopped by in years past and tonight it was the same situation. What I got to experience again was that although the young ladies aren't old enough to have many years of experience behind them, just like in past years I was immediately greeted and made to feel welcome. The reason I find the young ladies conduct here encouraging is that frequently young people don't take jobs too serious so it's always nice to see examples of good service that remind me that I shouldn't be too hard on all young people since obviously some of them take their jobs seriously and provide good customer experiences. Obviously the management here is doing a good job of training their employees and it makes for a pleasant experience. Good job Sluggo's! read more

Sluggo's is the BEST pizza ever. Seriously. Their bread sticks are to die for - they fluffy and chewy and covered in italian dressing (don't knock it til you try it!). They're pizza is fresh and only uses premium ingredients. The cheese is delicious and not like other places. It's fresh and you can definitely tell. They use generous portions of toppings and cheese, and their specials are great values. My favorite is the #1 - A personal (7 inch) pizza w/2 toppings, an order of bread sticks, and a pop - for $6.36. It can fill up the hungriest person, or make 2 meals for an average appetite. The pizza has a way of being both chewy and crunchy at the same time - completely delicious! It's always quick and friendly service!
