Did you know there is a speakeasy in Holland?…read more Right below Butch's Dry Dock downtown Holland you can find a small dim lit cocktail bar! You can go to their website to get on the email list for the password each week or you can go to the host stand at Butch's and ask if there is available seating "downstairs". The two times I've done this, the host always understands. They pick up the phone and call downstairs to see if there's any open spots and let us go down there. There are stairs or you can take the elevator to the basement level. After you've arrived downstairs you can find the door with the black lock symbol and KNOCK THREE TIMES. They will let you in and welcome you to find a seat. They have a water station where you can help yourself and some tables and a couch and bar seating. The menu is pretty fantastic. I haven't had a drink that I dislike yet! The prices are a bit elevated but that's okay for a fancy drink imo. Hope you check out this gem if you're ever in Holland and want to go on a little adventure to find this place! My only complaint is the basement area smells a little funky but inside the bar was fine. But otherwise it's totally amazing and worth the experience! The people working here are great too! So kind'

I found a spot up at the bar and played keno while waiting for my burger. Burger was good and cooked medium the way I like it. I stuck with the kettle chips that came with the burger. You could upgrade to fries or onion rings but the chips were fine. Drink prices were on par for a dive bar. Nothing extraordinary about the place but nothing that would prevent me from returning. Bartender was efficient but not overly friendly. All good and I left with a full belly and had a couple drinks. Keno proved to be a waste of money (as always lol).

I've been here with small groups and large groups and we have always received great service. The menu states that since everything is made from scratch it might take up to an hour to get your food but it has never taken that long when we have been here. On this visit we started with two orders of nachos, requesting no meat in one order. The nachos here are seriously my favorite that I have ever had from any restaurant. Ingredients include roasted corn, black beans,, red onion, cheese, lettuce, pico, cilantro, and lime chipotle cream, and choice of meats. We ordered ground beef on one order and the other meatless. After the nachos we ordered a Fun Guy pizza and a burrito, which was huge! We all shared the pizza and burrito. We enjoyed goat cheese cheesecake for dessert. It was wonderful. This place always has the best food of any bar I ever go to. A must try when you are in Holland.

I wanted cheese curds today. Specifically today, because the greatest place on Earth, AJ Bombers,…read morehas sadly met its demise. I found myself in Holland at dinnertime and asked Yelp where to find curds. Yelp has delivered. Goog's is an intriguing place. It's attached to a meat market. One of the menu options is to pick a steak from next door and they'll prepare it for you, which is honestly a good deal. Their whole menu is a good deal, honestly, for the quality and quantity you get. The cheese curds satisfied my craving - okay, admittedly, many of them were monterey jack squares, but I didn't want to push them and ask for "all curds" - and they were willing to sub queso dip for the standard ranch. Very nice of them! After that, I was rather full but wanted some nutrition. They prepared a side salad, which isn't on the menu at all - your standard lettuce/tomato/cuke/etc. Again, generous portion at a good price, and very nice of them. Other perks: rotating root beer of the month if you don't want to drink, a ton of customizable burgers. Goog's is really customer-oriented and they want to work with you to get you exactly what you're looking for. Doesn't get more 5-star than that!

Two times…read moreI've been here with my cousins while we were in town for the holidays, and both times I've regretted it. There won't be a third. As a lifelong Michigan resident, a good local dive is not hard to find - oozing with character & charm. You will not find that here. It's difficult to describe the atmosphere. There is an oppressive, hostile vibe. Perhaps it's different if you're friends with the owner/staff. The space is in poor shape even for dive standards - more reminiscent of your favorite fraternity's party room than a legitimate establishment. It retains none of the unique cultural charm many have come to expect in Holland, or any Michigan town outside of metro Detroit. I suppose it is Dutch in its own way - if Holland is Amsterdam, this is the red light district. The women in your group will feel uncomfortable. Stone faced men sit on the walls, not drinking, or talking, or socializing, but observing. Familiar faces circulate to those same men repeatedly, exchanging few words and brief handshakes. Interpret that as you will. You will also feel uncomfortable. When you request salt & limes for tequila shots, you'll pause and wonder if the bartender actually just called you an explicit homophobic slur. Or perhaps when you're followed into the bathroom and receive compliments regarding your manhood at the trough - unsure if it's a clumsy attempt at connection in a typically conservative locale - or a test with a bloody & bruised prize on your departure. You'll begrudgingly pay a cover and ponder why there's a seriously robust & out of place security team in downtown Holland of all places. You wonder why you can only enter through the back door, while the front is essentially hidden from the main drag. You'll notice the fresh young faces of some of the patrons, and speculate if their drivers licenses are vertically oriented. You'll come to understand that the rot festering in this space threatens to leak out & spoil the carefully curated charm that is Holland. Tolerance is the Dutch way - laid bare at the Parrot Lounge. It's up to you to decide how far your own tolerance extends.

The service was extremely slow, and when we first sat down to eat, it was not busy. It took a while for someone to take our drink orders, then a while after that to order our food. We were told the tator tots had a new seasoning that had lime with it, and that we could get them without the seasoning, so we opted for that. Our meals took a very long time to arrive, and the tator tots had the seasoning on them, lime and tots do not go together. Neither my fiancé or I liked them. We asked to get fries instead, and ate our burgers while we waited. The burgers were great, we both enjoyed them. We waited a while longer for our fries, well after we finished our burgers, and decided to just tell our server to omit them from our order and give us our bill. They did take them off our bill. My fiancé ended up having to go up to the bar to pay, because no one came to our table in the meantime. Overall, just okay. We decided to eat here based on the fact we were staying at the hotel it's in. Also, $1 for a side of ranch and other condiments is a bit pricey, in my opinion.
