I wanted cheese curds today. Specifically today, because the greatest place on Earth, AJ Bombers, has sadly met its demise. I found myself in Holland at dinnertime and asked Yelp where to find curds. Yelp has delivered. Goog's is an intriguing place. It's attached to a meat market. One of the menu options is to pick a steak from next door and they'll prepare it for you, which is honestly a good deal. Their whole menu is a good deal, honestly, for the quality and quantity you get. The cheese curds satisfied my craving - okay, admittedly, many of them were monterey jack squares, but I didn't want to push them and ask for "all curds" - and they were willing to sub queso dip for the standard ranch. Very nice of them! After that, I was rather full but wanted some nutrition. They prepared a side salad, which isn't on the menu at all - your standard lettuce/tomato/cuke/etc. Again, generous portion at a good price, and very nice of them. Other perks: rotating root beer of the month if you don't want to drink, a ton of customizable burgers. Goog's is really customer-oriented and they want to work with you to get you exactly what you're looking for. Doesn't get more 5-star than that! read more

When you're driving to Goog's I think you're under the impression you don't know what you're gonna get. It's a little restaurant attached to a liquor store. But man do they know how to do food. The Texas grilled cheese has burnt ends inside and it is delicious! The tenders came with a lot of chicken and also were great! Our server was quick and attentive. Ordered takeout from Goog's based on recommendations from our hotel. It's a cool combination of tavern, meat, cheese, and beverage shop. Great combo! We were impressed with their extensive burger options and landed on the Wagyoog wagyu burger with bacon jam, seasonings, and smoked gouda. Also ordered a seafood basket and a Cobb salad. While waiting, we perused the shop and our hunger caused us to buy smoked whitefish dip and some toasted bread snacks for dipping. We picked up our order and went out to the park to eat and watch the sunset. Overall, the food was solid. We ordered the burger medium and it came out well done, that might have happened with the short time that elapsed but it really hampered the burger for me. It was a little dry and hard to discern the quality of the beef, and also the other flavors were not very distinctive for me. The seafood was also decent, maybe if we had eaten in, it would be better. The shrimps, scallops, and clams were 3.5/5, so I'm rounding up to a 4. The salad was fine, nice portions of chicken, bacon, and fresh greens. The quantity of the food was also great, so a proportional value after spending $60+ on 3 items. We have always enjoyed Goog's and then after they rebuilt with a new building and market it is even better! The ambiance is fine and the food is great, with creative burger options and amazing fries. We always want to try other items on the menu but the burgers are so fantastic that we always gravitate back to them when ordering. Never have been disappointed here. read more

(If you're not putting a fried egg on your burger, what are you even doing?!) Swapped the fries for o-rings, but you'll love either. Every bite packed all the stuff. Goog's Pub & Grub may be a little off the beaten path and somewhat difficult to find, but it is absolutely a treasure worth searching for. I went with The Smokeeater, and it was easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. Savory, well-seasoned, cooked perfectly to order, and packed with flavor. The fries were over the top as well. I honestly wish I lived closer because I'd happily eat my way through the entire menu. I also stopped at the adjacent store looking for a hard-to-find favorite beer, Moose Drool. Unfortunately, it was out of stock, but the gentleman working there explained that darker beers are more readily available during the winter months. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful--and even gave us Michigan-shaped treats to take home to my dogs. The staff at both the restaurant and the store were friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Goog's may take a little effort to find, but it is definitely worth the search. In my last review I mentioned the fabulous chicken noodle soup was no longer on the menu but would be available occasionally as a special. "Occasionally" just came so after driving 38 miles, we were comfortably seated anxiously waiting to see if the soup was as good as I remembered from the "old Goog's". The soup was out of this world fantastic and was every bit as good as I remember. I've had chicken noodle soup at deili's in New York and Chicago that aren't as good. Also, the burgers were once again perfectly cooked (rare and medium rare) Consistency and excellence don't come by accident. My hat's off to management for making it happen every time. read more

I stopped in here with a friend for dinner recently, and was really happy to have stumbled upon this place. There was about a 20 minute wait so we went and walked through the store which had all kinds of super interesting things in it. Think Little Debbie flavored ice cream for example. when our table was ready, we grabbed a seat and started looking over the menu. I asked for some help when it came to understanding some of the burgers and what was the most popular and what was the staffs, most favorite, etc. Ended up going with a classic burger that had been tossed in Worcestershire sauce and onion rings. Lots of people recommended this and so the first time we came here it was really crowded and so we came here another time when it was a weird hour and then it was less crowded. That is a good trick we did. We were able to pull off that trick because we were playing croquet before. I have never played croquet before this but it is quite fun. One of the best burgers in town! We ordered carry out the first time, but most recently came inside to sit in and eat. It's a small spot so you might have to come at an off peak hour time to eat if you want to get a table right away. We didn't have to wait too long though about 10-15 minutes. I got the Phoenix with tomato and avocado, which was excellent. It was a cooked perfectly and seasoned well and was juicy but not greasy. It had the little kick that I wanted and wasn't over powering. The toppings and veggies tasted fresh. I also got the sweet potato waffle fries which I appreciate them having as an option. Our server was extremely nice and apologized for the food coming out slow or longer, but we expected it given how busy it was. Phenomenal burgers and onion rings! While takeout is available, I'd recommend eating in as the servers are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. In addition, the quality of the food drops significantly as it cools down with travel. Decent selection of beers on tap. I adore Googs, and have since before the new store opened. They execute their burgers brilliantly and I always love trying what they have new. I've been delighted that they've returned as I missed them dearly while the new place was being constructed. There is only one thing that is worse about Googs now versus 3 years ago before it closed and that's the size. The new space is much smaller with fewer tables meaning higher wait times during peak dining. Not going to lie this is pretty frustrating and prevents me from wanting to lunch here or being larger groups. But hey, if the worst part about a place is that they are so good they don't have enough space for all their rabid fans then you could certainly be worse off.
