We dined al fresco for our visit and had such a lovely time. Our server was Landon and he was training a new server, so they made sure to pay good attention to us, aside from how busy it was that evening. One slip up though was that we had to grab our silverware from the bar cart because we hadn't gotten any and we hadn't seen them in a few minutes. We got this meatball dish as an appetizer and that was probably my favorite part of the meal. The sauce was just so savory and delectable and the meatballs are a good side. I also love being able to mop up the extra sauce with the toasted bread! Then for our main course we both got pasta dishes. I don't remember much about them already because they were just fine, nothing to really jump for joy about. One of our dishes had lots of peppers on it, which is always nice. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that with the weather being nice, there was a surge in business so things might not have been top notch. Wonderful food and great ambience!! Staff was super friendly and their menu had so many great selections it was hard to pick! I had the pesto fettuccini with chicken and my husband got the braised short rib. The fettuccini was probably one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had and the goat cheese with it completed the flavor. We also ordered Brussel sprouts and a baguette on the side. We went to a few other restaurants and we were mostly disappointed with what was offered in the town, but our last night on a whim we decided to try Waverly Stone and oh my goodness it was so good. I visited with a four-person group on a Thursday evening. My reservation via Yelp worked flawlessly, and the host was waiting to seat us. Server Landon, too, was ready when we were, knowledgeable and efficient. The space, which I dimly remember as the 8th Street Grille, is pleasant on the eye, not too loud, and comfortable. The food, currently with a "Mediterranean" theme, was excellent (see my photos). Therese H.'s gluten-free pasta request was handled flawlessly. My seared swordfish with root veggies and risotto not only was fresh and flavorful, but was presented well, with a little verticality and a seared lemon, good-looking and tasty comfort food for fall. The menu has changed since our last visit here. It is now Mediterranean, and also has many seafood options, plus smashed burgers. We had made a reservation but the dining room was not full at all. It seemed very quiet and slow for a Friday night. We started by ordering an appetizer, stuffed artichokes. The two artichokes were good but were very small, not what we were expecting for 14.50. There were three of us, and after we had shared the two artichokes between us, our server had mentioned that we could have ordered an additional artichoke for $3.50. Had we known that when we ordered we definitely would have. It took quite a while for our appetizer to be served, so we ended up not ordering dinner but only a couple of drinks before leaving. The food and drinks were on point, we got the Brussels sprouts, my husband got the double cheeseburger and I got red snapper on their cucumber salad. We went on July 4th so they were out of a few items but that didn't matter, everything was high quality and delicious. My husband even said he wished he took the bartenders recommendation initially on his drink since it was better than his backup choice. Very dog friendly patio as we went with our two corgis, they brought a metal bowl with water which was perfect. This is actually our second time here and we were not disappointed. Visited with a group of 10 for a birthday on a Saturday evening. There was a 2 hour wait, but it was 100% worth it, and also our fault for not making reservations. It was a beautiful evening so we wandered around and slightly spoiled our appetites at Whits, first. Promptly at the time they said, we were seated and let me just say, the remodel is gorgeous! It's such a lovely vibe. Water glasses are placed on the table and the server brings carafes of water. I also ordered an old fashioned which was lovely. We opted to skip appetizers and just went straight for mains. There were so many good options it made it difficult tk choose. My friend is gluten intolerant and loves how many options they have! My fettuccine alfredo was perfection. Delicious! And, because we didn't all order appetizers, I also wanted to try the tuscan beer cheese and pretzels. Both were so good, but I managed to share some with which the table. Everyone's portion sizes were plentiful and everyone left happy. Some of our party also indulged in dessert. The creme brulee was lovely and large enough that we could have shared. We were in town visiting for a night and wanted somewhere within walking distance to our hotel. We wanted somewhere that took reservations but wasn't necessarily a super upscale place and Waverly Stone was the perfect fit! We arrived a little early for our reservation, but they happily seated us early! The inside was very spacious and clean with the table appropriately spaced out (I hate when places squeeze tables in, making it a maze to walk around). Our service was rather slow, but we weren't in any hurry. We both ordered drinks, I really enjoyed the Pom Parade and Blueberry Fitzgerald. For food my husband loved the Kofta burger with fries! The menu is completely new from my original review four years ago, which isn't surprising. While it has a lot of the basics and some seafood and pasta options, there is a heavy contingent of Mediterranean food, which is awesome because Holland doesn't have many options like that, if any. The space is still fairly cramped when it's the busy season, but that's what you're getting at most places. They do wine tastings and pairings about once a month, and I feel like they should go a little more in on the wine aspect. Breweries and beer places kind of dominate downtown and I think maybe focusing on wine a little more could be nice. But hey, that's just me. After sitting in a booth with a table for six, it took me a little too long to find the wine menu. read more

My family and I came here for a weekend lunch. We came in a bit after their opening at 11am on a Saturday, and sat at a booth which is raised from the floor. The inside is very nicely decorated with a bar area to the right in the front. The food portions were large, and it was nice to have a Mediterranean inspired menu in downtown Holland where there are more pub or American food style places. Service was excellent. Their menu indicates a when certain dishes may take a bit longer to make which we appreciated. This is a more formal place for lunch, prices are higher but the food was good with large portions. AVOID this location! I am usually not one to complain about at restaurant. I fully understand places get busy and most do their best to make customers happy but this restaurant was BAD, BAD, BAD. Let's start with the wait. We were told 30-45 minute wait. It was busy when we got there. Our party went for a walk downtown Holland, when we came back 30 minutes later we were told we were 3 parties away from being seated. 45 minutes and 7 (yes I counted, 7) parties were sat before us. When we finally got seated we placed our drinks order and received those pretty quickly. We then order and wait 1 FULL hour to get our food. At this point the place was 1/2 full and not busy at all. The food was gross! My smash burger was dry and over cooked. My wife's salad had hardly any cranberry's nor goat cheese. So a $20 salad probably cost about $3 dollars to make. There are SO MANY great places in downtown to pick from I would seriously consider any other place to eat. From the wait to the food. This entire experience was not great at all. Great chill, and upscale date night spot. The first time we went I got the chicken gyro with sweet potato fries and I remember really enjoying it. My partner got the hot honey salmon? which was also amazing. We came back last night and I got the alfredo, which had a lot of vegetables (I guess a mediterranean twist) and it was decent, but I would definitely get the gyro next time. I also ordered a lemon drop martini, which wasn't on the menu but a simple drink to make. Definitely recommend this place for dinner! I got the salmon and it was probably a top 5 salmon experience for me. It was well cooked, while most places tend to overcook salmon. We also got the dolmas as an appetizer, which were very good. I also really like the interior, very vibrant and well designed. Only a few things to improve on. First, way too many gnats flying around trying to commit suicide in my wine. Second, this place feels pretty high end, so I'm not sure why they need to have TVs on playing Two and a Half Men and Stepbrothers--it brings the vibe down a notch. I understand if there's a game or something on, but lowbrow sitcoms and movies don't improve ambiance when we're trying to have a nice dinner out. read more

We were welcomed graciously and attended to well all through the evening. Food was excellent. One of us had walleye and I had the swordfish with lemon coconut sauce. I don't like coconut so it was served on the side. I could not see any coconut and it was a perfect addition to the dish. Otherwise, the swordfish may have been a bit overcooked. We chose to check our Waverly based on suggestion from a friend. It was a Monday, early evening around 6:00. They were not too busy, but we enjoy dining at the bar, and there were some open seats. The bartender was attentive and friendly. They offer a fair number of draft beer options as well as cocktails. For dinner I had the Arugula and Goat Cheese Salad. This had gold raisins, apricots, cherries, cashews and Goat Cheese served with a Lemon Vinaigrette dressing which was very tasty. The salad itself was very fresh and tasty. I order the salad with Chicken as a protein, and the chicken was just ok, it had a weird texture. I later learned they use Chicken Thighs which was probably the reason I did not personally care for it. My wife had the Waverly Smash burger. It was cooked to Medium, served on a good bun and had good flavor. Overall Service was good. No complaints. Food is average and what you would expect for a Gastropub.
