Original, elegant and amazing selection of exclusive craft beers you won't find anywhere else in West Michigan. The wife/gf will love the decor, right out of a playful, hip pinterest board and they even have a delightful assortment of craft cocktails with local spirits a la New Holland. The owner is friendly and happy to allow you to sample the assortment of delicious flavors. I recommend a snifter of the IPA to wash down the palate. Really unique spot in Washington square. On the inside it feels like a coffee shop. Atmosphere is really relaxing and the space is laid out for people to come by and just enjoy a drink together like you're in your loving room. They have a good sized beer list to order from and a full bar if you want a cocktail. One thing I'd love for them to do is create some signature cocktails. This space just feels like you need a cocktail and I think it would be smart for them to add a few of their own. But if you have a favorite drink, they can make it for you. They don't have a kitchen but you're welcome to order in or bring food in. They also have a rewards program where you get $5 off for every $50 you spend. You could reach that in 2-3 visits depending on what you order. read more

Absolutely pleasant is how I would describe this place. My drink was made with attention to details that left me with a positive impression of the culture. They really care about the whole process. The service was great and I felt very welcomed and comfortable. I was here with my significant other and would recommend to singles for dates or happy hour with friends. Why oh why are you located in Grand Rapids? I adore you so! From the pictures already on Yelp I knew I was going to fall in love with this place upon arrival! And it happened, I am in love. What a cool space in a little village looking area of Holland. It is decorated very tastefully with the nautical theme and very conversational seating arrangements. There are some seats by a fire, seating in the windows and seating along the brick wall! Their tap list was stellar with so many beers to choose from. We ended up getting two flights so we could enjoy as many beers are possible. Even getting two flights which are presented on fun handcrafted boats, there were still probably 20+ more beers on the menu. We came on a Sunday, which was a super chill, not busy vibe. (it is before Holland gets busy for summer so it was nice to enjoy with hardly anyone around). We chatted with the bartender who was super helpful. She told us about how they are expanding into the space next door so that they can hold events and use it for overflow, etc since it gets very crowded on a Friday or Saturday she said. This is such a gem find! Located just outside of downtown Holland in a little area called Washington Square, this hip, urban, classy sweet spot is perfect for drinks with friends of all ages. Tons of different beers on tap to choose from for the college crowd as well as wonderful specialty cocktails for me and my crew, all set in a sunny, upscale atmosphere! We stopped by Brew Merchant for an hour and a half as we waited for our dinner reservations. We had a party of 25+ people and we showed up with no notice. Brew Merchant was extremely accommodating. Great selection of not your every day run of the mill craft beers. If you're hungry bring your own food, they have a few options for snacks. Imagine if someone's Pinterest account was splashed liberally over a 500-600 sq ft retail space. Sure, it looks nice, but the seating is awkward, uncomfortable and nooks in the front window could be used as torture devices; nothing fatal but the longer you sit the more exquisite the uncomfortableness becomes. The beer selection is good and the bartender that used to work at Salt of the Earth is the highlight. Sure, they're new and learning but they don't seem to get that. My friend and I shared the Gourmet Meat & Cheese tray on a prior visit. When the gourmetness of the fancy lunchable was called into question, the director of operations (seriously, a bar that seats 40-50 has a director of operations?) mansplained to us that it was and proceeded to deflect. To be honest both my guest and I have spent more years in the hospitality industry than the director has been alive, I attempted to be gracious and offered several chances to own the shortcomings, but the haughtiness knew no limits. In short; it looks good, has an okay selection of beer but lacks depth and is cold and impersonal unless you're a pretty young thing. For my dollar, I'll order carry out and continue hanging out at OBC or help Fireside establish a clientele. read more

I walked into this establishment for the first time last night with friends who'd been there before. They'd tried to give me an overview of what to expect but fell seriously short! The entire staff (whose names I only recall a few) were like good old friends. The ambiance is welcoming - like coming home. I had a converstion with Chris, the owner, about how it's helping to revive Washington Square - along with The Biscuit, Pereddies and other new businesses - into the local place to be that is comfortable and away from the downtown area but just as qaint and relaxing. I'm not a beer drinker but the selection of wines wins my vote. Scott has made some great choices. I also met Carrie, owner, who was warm and friendly and happy to engage in conversation. They also have music on Wednesdays and Saturdays and that's a great addition to the atmosphere and already great brewpub. I'll be back, my friends will be back...often. read more
