What an awful bar. Not even worth a single star. I moved here to west mich about 5 years ago. I've been to a lot of bars around the US and this is by far the worst one I've ever been to. So dirty, smells like a porta potty right when you walk in. All of the workers put me off in a bad way, I remember once they were closing down and the DJ just started blasting scream-o. Just feels like everyone hates you here. One of the last couple times I was here I threw up after one draft beer. They probably never clean their taps, or worse. If you come get a bottle of something and WATCH them open it at the bar. These workers at parrots are the types of people to roofie your drink as well, you think I'm kidding, ask around a little bit of people who have frequented here. No reason I should be over the toilet after one drink. It's astonishing that someone owns this sorry excuse of a bar and allows it to bring down holland and the surrounding area. I love a good dive bar, but this is a whole class below. Genuinely smells awful in there and my two ingredient drink was made incorrectly.

If you want the ultimate legit dive bar experience - this is it. Also the only option if you want to stay out past 10p in Holland. Cash only. No front entrance. $1 cover. Dirty as ever. Rude bartender. Hot as hell on a summer night. Dark ink stamps don't show on our dark-skinned friends hands. $9 for a double Tito's and soda. If it weren't for the DJ playing every song we requested or the kind group of clientele who offered to challenge us in beer (water) pong, we would've lasted 10 minutes. The man was not nice He charged us more because we were a bachelorette party with two brides. He was also rude to another party with a male who happened to be openly gay. He was about peoples attire. We went to the bar at 630 pm and were the ONLY customers, we felt so uncomfortable we sat outside. We got this recommendation from a local but felt so unwelcome, we got one drink, sat outside, made friends with a 90s bar crawl who shared our feelings and left. I would not recommend this bar to anyone with an open mind, a plan to have fun, or looking for a good time. read more

I will never go back again. I'm am African American man, and when I got there today, within the 1st 5 min I heard the lame amateur comediam, and the host say the "N" weird about 20 times as if it was ok. Everyone in the audience even felt uncomfortable, but they continued saying it to try getting a laugh. I encourage everyone and especially minorities to stay far away from these racist people. Don't give them a single penny of your money. They showed by their jokes how they really felt about us, so why support them? I hope they lose their business. read more

If this is a dive then I have been in some really terrible places. I went there for a mic and had an awesome time. The bartender was cool, we chatted about Star Wars and I felt completely relaxed. If you are pretentious, you won't like it. Fun place, fun bar. No bells and whistles. Love this bar, and the comedy shows! Love to see very funny local comedians from all over have a platform and place to practice! Also, the comedian who hosts the show isn't racist, he's black. Sorry he's not black "enough" to use the N word like some may think. Stay for a show before you walk in for 2 minutes and determine whatever you hear is racist. read more

I've never felt so negatively about a company but if I could rate this place 0 stars I would. The owner was our bartender and was rude, homophobic, and made no attempt to provide any sort of positive customer service in any way. After finding out my fiancé and I were celebrating our bachelorette party (as 2 females), he increased the price of our round right in front of us. Some may say that's a good reason to refuse to pay/leave right away but after a great day with our friends the last thing we wanted to do was cause a scene or let him ruin our day. As a customer you also should never need to do that. I know additional negative reviews for this place won't change much. This is a college bar and he'll get enough business to make up for any lost by out of towners like me. But locals should not recommend this place based on the experience we had when it was recommended to us. read more

The only thing that you need in a dive bar is a friendly bartender, and this place does not have it. The owner/bartender is the nastiest, miserable person I have ever encountered in my 57 years. I just went in for a quick beer and I was the ONLY person in the bar. He treated me as if I had leprosy! What a sad example of someone who owns a bar!! Divey. Pool table is seen better days, dirty as ever. Smoke stained tabled that don't stay steady, torn seats. ATM that barely works. Bathrooms are minimal. Clean, but minimal. Toilet paper: not there. Compared to the office the drink prices were pretty up there. 10 dollars for a large pitcher. Good place for some pool, beer pong, or that place to just drop in and talk to a couple chicks. Wouldn't really spend a long time here. STAY AWAY! I wish I could rate this dump lower than 1 star. This was the worst place I have ever been to, and I have been to Tijuana. I hated everything about this place. I don't know where to begin: 1. The service is AWFUL. They are incompetent, obnoxious and are especially rude to the non-townies. The place is full of the bar tenders friends who obviously have been hanging out in the same sad clique for years "ending the night" reliving the glory days. It is really sad, I honestly feel bad for them. 2. The drinks were severely overpriced and were served to me in plastic disposable Dixie cups. Even their "good" drinks were served this way. I was surprised to find this as located near beautiful downtown Holland. Do yourself and humanity a favor and spend your money elsewhere. 3. The venue can only be described as unsanitary. I don't know how else to put it. The building has the cleanliness of a frat house. I am glad I was up to date on my vaccinations. If you are looking for an overpriced bar with weak drinks served in Dixie cups by uninterested and arrogant bar tenders incapable of completing the simplest task who also abuse and do not understand the scope of their "authority," then by all means give this place a shot. I was wondering why this place got 2 stars. I now know why. First of all, you can't access this place through the front only the back. Thought it was closed at first. Charge $1 for entry... strange they didn't charge in nickels only. First thing they asked is what I wanted to drink obviously. So I looked at what they had on stock. I saw buffalo trace whiskey. One of the only whiskeys they had. I ordered buffalo trade to be told "sorry that's not for sale it's the owners stash." Why keep it in front of people! The bartenders didn't know how much any drink was and were just using a calculator from 1950 to add up the cost. This place blew my mind and i have no idea how it is still in business. Would not recommend going here as it smells like urine and is creepy. read more

Went here after doing a little bar hopping on 8th street. Heard about this from someone at the bar and figured we would check it out before we got our taxi. First...don't go to the front door, its locked and you'll look like a fool like we did. You have to walk behind the building were you'll see the bouncer waiting outside. So once we finally figure out how to get in, we sat at the L shaped bar got a red bull and vodka and it was very strong and came in a plastic cup, but still it was good. They had music playing and it was way too entirely loud for the small bar. Pretty outdated for the decor. The staff was okay...pretty attentive but not very upbeat or friendly. And lastly...the bathrooms. If you have to pee...hold it. This was the grossest bathroom I have every walked into. Blood all over the counter, the sink, and my friend said it was all over her stall. You have to be a local to appreciate Parrots. Yes it's small, outdated & dingy...and ladies you definitely should do the "hover" over the toilet seat if you use the bathroom (earlier in the night it's typically pretty clean though..just stay away when it starts getting packed) but I can't help but love Parrots. First of all they play good music. Like 90's and early 2000's hip hop along with some current bops. The stuff you can dance to. When my girls and I go out we wanna dance and not to some live acoustic band, to be honest with you. That's what you'll find at any other bar in downtown Holland. You either hate Parrots or you love it. If you're from out of town you'll probably hate it lol. read more

Ha, excuse my French, but what an absolute Sh*t hole. The only reason why I didn't give this place a 1 star rating is because the majority of times I've ended up here, I've had a really fun time. Since I went as a Hope College student, It was known among the students as the bar you would go to if you were having "one of those nights." The - I'm going all out drunk tonight- kind of night...and then you end up here. I would NEVER go out of my way to be here. Here's why: 1. Drinks are EXPENSIVE and TASTE AWFUL. They really water down their drinks, (the "blue drank" in particular) which is absolutely awful for that price. At that quality, it might as well be free. 2. Don't expect grade A bathroom cleanliness because their facilities are pretty much awful. 3. At one point of the night, people become disgusting. This is the place where you'll find the black-out drunks who just want to pick a fight. Let me tell you, I've witnessed my fair share of drunk fights. Entertaining...but just awful. 4. They have a cover fee of a $1. HA, which is hilarious cause, if I came here sober, someone could not pay me to go here. TIP: Befriend the bouncers and they'll get you in for free. 5. Prepare to see the sleaziest of sleazy on the dance floor. We're talking, ass up in the air, short skirts, sloppy drunk grinding action. It's fun if you're at that level (near blackout, probably). It's not so much fun when these people are women in their 30's, the townies in the area. I could probably go on, but I've already had a good laugh. If you do decide to go...or are pushed into going...or just randomly somehow find yourself here, you must know to go after midnight. That's when the real action starts. So, just prepare to have the best or worst night of your life. read more

I brought my friends here at 6pm on a Saturday night, after leaving tulip festival art fair! Awesome art fair! Btw. We thought the bar was closed, nothing on street side to invite patrons in. We entered, and the bartender made excellent lemon drop shots! But when I suggested he open door, or put balloons out front, he said that "No, I don't want more coming here". And he was aggravated I suggested it. Now, keep in mind, that only 2 others were in the bar. And many people looked in, and passed it up since it was empty and no music. I just don't understand why this place doesn't encourage more patrons to enter. Cranky bartender? Lazy bartender? Owner not interested in the profits? Owner not involved? If you want a place to have a drink, NO frills, this place will do it. Cash only, no credit cards. A late night dive, I'm happy Holland has it! read more

Awful!!! We walked in and I think it was about 90 degrees inside. They had us walk to the back and pay their "cover charge", I looked around and there were only 7 patrons in the entire establishment. We went to a brewery and Irish pub afterwards that were great and there was no cover charge. If I could rate a ZERO, I would. read more

The "Dirty Bird" as it is affectionately known. This is an end of the night sort of place. There is sometimes a cover (usually around $1). The drinks are overpriced, and pretty standard. There is a trough for a urinal in the men's room. Everyone is typically pretty drunk which makes the tiny dance floor a popular place. There are often a lot of Hope College kids here. I give this a two star rating if you end up there anytime before midnight. After 1 am it pretty much turns into a 4 star place. Only downside is a place this trashy shouldn't ever charge a cover but somehow everyone still pays it. read more
