The Unicorn Tavern - Belgian Onion Soup (the soup is under there... somewhere)

Service - eleventy billion stars. Highly engaging and funny. Star of the show. The vibe in here…read morecannot be denied. It's a really fun space and a great place to come with friends. Carbonnade - delish. Would 100% order this again, and possibly in the bread bowl next time! I love that you can just order a cup tho, to see if you enjoy it first. I love places that give you portion choices. Belgian Onion soup - oddly boring with oddly boring bread that tasted too much like the gas it was grilled with. The onion soup sadly didn't have a whole lot of flavor on its own. It needed a lot more salt. And the bread that was topped with on top of it had the flavor of the gas from the grill that they grilled it. And it's soaked up a lot of the soup because the bread itself is pretty spongy for a French bread. I appreciate that there you are making it in-house though. Overall, maybe not as good as a traditional French onion soup. Could have used a lot more flavor of its own. Endive salad - great, if you like blue cheese! This and the Carbonnade were the standout dishes for me. I wolfed this down. This also comes in a small or large size, which meant we got to try more menu items without ending up with too many leftovers! Frikandelle - ok no. Idk man. A miss on almost all levels for me. Cheese sauce was nice! Burger was...dry. slaw was...pickley. There was...too much bread? This was also somewhat dry, unfortunately. This dish sounded great on paper to me, but it and I were just not a match in the end. Hot chicken & waffle - The chicken is very crispy and the breading tastes really good. The maple syrup is very light and the whole syrup and hot bit tastes like a mapley sauce which is pretty nice. The slaw on it with kale is pretty good. Not overpowering, sweet or saucy. It has kale in it which is interesting. The pickles are nice. There's kind of like a sweet bread and butter pickle and are really good, but I think I prefer them off of the sandwich. The waffle itself is pretty weak and wet and not very crispy. If they worked on the waffle, this could be a pretty stellar dish. It was our server's top recommendation! Sunday night 7 pm, busy but only a 5 min wait. Everyone who helped us, from hostess to bill, was outstandingly kind and very personable. These are passionate, knowledgable people who seem to be having a lot of fun. It's infectious! Even though we didn't enjoy some of the things we ordered as much as we wanted to, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would look forward to coming back here in the future, even just for drinks and hanging out, in the future!

The indoor/ outdoor space blends together in the warmer months with cool hangout spaces and game areas. This place is truly a work of art. Drink lists abound, but because it was lunchtime we stuck to food. We were not disappointed. Everything was well conceived and delicious. I can't wait to come back and try the bone bread next time, stew and scrumptious sounding salads. Today we had the kids smash burger, Brussels burger with frites and fried haddock and frites with a delicious coleslaw. The best part? Different sauces to choose to dip the fries in. The curry ketchup was the best (special shout out for *actually* cooking the curry into the ketchup) as it did not taste of raw curry. They definitely don't cut corners here. We noticed, and we appreciated it. We will be back.

We really wanted to love Blue Porch and tried it three times but this visit had problems from start…read moreto finish. Service was slow out of the gate -- despite our waiter hanging out with a table he clearly knew. Food didn't fare much better. We ordered the smash burger, which by definition should come with cheese and smash sauce -- that's the whole point of a smash burger, not an add-on. Ours came with neither, and even though it had two patties, we had to pay extra just to add a single slice of cheese. It was incredibly dry, even after adding that cheese and trying table condiments to compensate. The chicken tenders looked appetizing but the chicken itself was stringy and overcooked. Dessert was the low point. We ordered the Oreo cheesecake bites and waited over 20 minutes, only to be served what was essentially liquid pudding in a shooter glass with whipped cream on top. Our server admitted, "I didn't know I was supposed to make it" -- it seems the dessert needed time to set in the fridge and was served before it was ready. While we were waiting we heard another table complaining. The server responded "chill. It's all good". The table responded "actually it's not all good!" Three strikes and we're out. We won't be back.

The wings seemed to be fried with maybe a little bit of corn starch and were okay, and you can add sauces including Buffalo, BBQ and anything from their wall of bottled sauces. The real star was the Brussels sprouts which had kind of a honey, balsamic, chili sauce. They were crispy and very well cooked. The service was also great. The servers were highly attentive. There were multiple TVs playing the French Open including a huge wall sized projection. Great place for watching sports!

We were sat right away at what we thought was the best table in the place - back corner where we could see everything. We liked that the booth was elevated so we had a great view of the stage for when the artist came back from a break. Our and a server brought us water when bringing menus - which I appreciate. We ordered cocktails, he had the smoked old fashioned. He said it was the best one he'd had in a long time. I had the blueberry lavender Collins it was quite refreshing. To eat we had the Baked Feta to start. It was interesting, it was cubed instead of whipped or somehow smoother. A little hard to explain. The halved cherry tomatoes and cloves of roasted garlic made it for me. The feta was warm, but it didn't really spread. Adding the tomatoes completely changed the overall flavor. They were a little sweet and paired nicely with the sharp tang of the feta. We also split the Dune sandwich. Big fans! The turkey was warm, the focaccia was light and fluffy. Served with a pile of kettle chips. The music was a man and his guitar. A one man show of sorts, he was great. We had a great experience and we will go again, for sure. We want to try the flatbread next time!

We ordered a couple sandwiches and flatbreads from here to go yesterday. Seemed to be light on the meat (i.e. not much turkey or chicken respectively) and too heavy on the sauce (mayo, mustard, etc.) so much that the sandwiches were dripping sauce. Looks like they have a nice backyard bar with music, but if you're looking for sandwiches - I'd pass.

And I have to say I think this is lack of singular focus on just one type of food and offering too many different items is probably what leads to some of their stuff tasting meh to horrible. First, the shareables. The elote fries were completely bland. The fries themselves were soggy and limp (they're called fries, for crying out loud) and despite there being plenty of toppings, none of the toppings worked together. This dish was absolutely awful. Their chips and guac were fine. The guac was nice and limey. The chips were actually quite crispy and well-seasoned, which made no sense to me given the fries were the opposite. Maybe they outsource their chips. Entree-wise, we had tacos, both meat and vegetarian. Meat-wise, the pulled chicken was awful, super dry meat and yet the tacos were soaked through, I have no idea how they pulled that off, so it was pretty inedible. The beef one, which is a recent special, just tasted...wrong. Not sure how to describe it, other than it just left a bad taste in my mouth. The fried fish was actually okay. For the vegetarian options, the falafel was also very off. Something weird about their seasoning, it's just not like your typical falafel so idk what's going on there. The sweet potato and seasonal veggie ones were pretty good, though. Tortillas overall were fine but when you have to double-stack them, and the fillings still soak through, making actually eating them a form of labor, something is not working with how you are building your tacos. Service - everyone seemed friendly enough. Overall - pick a different taco place to get food from.

I sat at the bar and waiting for almost 10 mins. Nobody came. I walked back to the front and there was a line of 3-4 ppl looking confused as well. So then I knocked on the kitchen door and asked is anyone servicing the bar, to which they said no because they don't have a bartender. Okay cool. She then seats me. The party of 3-4 were seated and all of them got waters. Meanwhile, I've been sitting here. I've been waiting. Still no water. My server comes to my table and ask can we start with anything, STILL NO WATER brought out for me. But the other party was seated and weren't even asked if they wanted water. I ordered an apple cider which was good! And I had the seafood pasta. The server was nice enough when she did come but the experience was already tainted. I was the only black person in there and my experience was embarrassing. I was recommended this place by a client, and wouldn't go back or go at all as a black person. They will overlook you and make you feel uncomfortable. The stars are 3 for the food and the drink because I am fair. But if it was based solely on experience, 1 star.
