Hundreds of Hops Stop #16 on our 2024 US hop passport self-guided tour, a weekend in Michigan. I went in expecting the Seinfeld Soup experience, brewery-style based on some reviews. WoW, I couldn't have been more wrong. We were greeted by a gal updating signs, food to the right & beer to the left. She was laughing with us, not at us, which is a great start. We ordered tacos cuz they're tacos & one should have them at every opportunity. Both were solid options with fun twists, a nice addition to our drinks. Once the food order was in, we headed to the drink counter & the gent working was quick to ask our drink preferences/dislikes & make suggestions. I didn't find staff to be off-putting at all & actually found them all to be friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the beer and the environment. We'd both come here again. read more

We've walked past many times but never actually visited this joint until this week. Venue. My partner and I came here with our twins in a stroller. We tried using the ADA lift to bypass the steps leading into the venue but it wasn't working. There wasn't much seating accessible to us indoors so we opted to sit outside. Drinks. Prepared with a list of beers we wanted to try, my partner went in to order 2 flights, only to find out that flights are not permitted outside since they don't allow glass outdoors. Instead, we got 12oz pours of the white chocolate blonde and the fuzzy nectar sour IPA. The fuzzy nectar was AMAZING. We didn't care for the blonde. It's just a shame we couldn't try more beers in a flight. Food. Gnarly Varley is the food service here. We got the elote fries, stout stew, and fish sandwich. The fries were ok -- the elote flavors didn't really come through strong enough. The stew tasted very burnt -- reminiscent of when you burn a pot of stew and taste all the blackened bits that were scraped off the bottom and mixed in with the whole pot. The fish sandwich was DELICIOUS -- perfectly crispy. Overall. IMO the best 2 things here were the fish sandwich + fuzzy nectar sour IPA. read more

We stopped here on our first night in town and it was lovely. We sat outside because we had our dog with us. There are tables along the road, nothing fancy but comfortable on a warm summer evening. The beer was great! The food is served by another restaurant, which is located inside the brewery. The spinach artichoke dip and fish and fries was delicious! I am so glad we made the long bike ride from Holland to Grand Armory so I could experience Pumpkin Slap. We had to visit this friendly brewery twice because I had to have another Pumkin Slap before we went home. I stupidly split the first one I had due to the fact that we had to pedal back to Holland after this. The service was quick, and the bartenders were so nice and efficient. We bought some canned Pumpkin Slap and Nutter Your Business to take home. They do offer BBQ food and had live music when we were there. This was a favorite for me! read more

I thought it was time to start reviewing some of my local breweries since I spend a lot of time in them ha! Grand Armory has a great vibe inside the old brick Armory building. Their beers are fantastic. I just wish they rotated their offerings more. Seems like when they first opened you could try new beers on a weekly basis. Grand Armory is one of two Grand Haven brewpubs. And like its counterpart across the street GAB occupies what was once an industrial building, right down to the original hardwood floors. Beers aren't as varied as I like--I'm the only Michigander who doesn't like IPAs and always wishes for more browns and porters and stouts. But there are staples that seem to satisfy the GAB regulars. Lower level seating can get cramped fast, so arrive early. Order at the bar. Consider ordering two at a time because the bar line can get long. Narrower range of food optipns, but more than some brewpubs, plus the nachos and the brisket sandwich are winners. read more

Came here for a concert a couple weeks ago with some friends. It was my first time here, and I don't get to Grand Haven very often. We had a great time. The music was great and I enjoyed the BBQ. There are separate ordering sites for drinks and food, so be prepared to wander around a little bit to get seated and whatnot. Definitely want to come back for more beer. read more

I went for a roadtrip this weekend and some friend tattered at this place which is a coffee shop, brewery and a BBQ joint. Didn't have the chance to try the coffee but I did try the briscket tacos. I wouldn't recommend them, it was three tacos and they add many sauces to it which at the end you don't get to try the flavor of the meat. I gotta say I'm a traditional when it comes to bbq places so this was very different. The meal was three tacos, chips and a mango salsa (good but wouldn't pay again for that). I asked for coke and the BBQ place doesn't sell them, I went to the brewery clerk (few steps away) and they just sell root beer or orange soda made by them. The place was kind of a factory vibe and had outside seating so definitely would go for the coffee next time. read more

Really good beers, with wide variety and access to BBQ in-building! I tried a couple beers but went with the Double Down Imperial Brown. It was a super complex, boozy brown ale. Fantastic beer and I would totally get it again. It had everything you like about a brown ale but then added some booziness from the barrel aging process. I wanted to get some to go but they didn't have any cans left (not surprising I suppose. Also wanted to try the barrel aged quad but that was sold out too! Not enough of a good beer I guess. I was able to grab a couple packs of the white chocolate blond. At first I thought it wast too sweet but weirdly, it actually seemed to get less sweet as I kept drinking. It had great flavour! Grand Armory is kinda affiliated with Righteous BBQ which is in the building as well. The nachos looked amazing with tons of toppings. The sides were a bit disappointing and super pricy but sauces were good. But this is really a review of the brewery, not the bbq. read more

I really like this place! Cool spot and good vibe. They share the spot with a rib and coffee joint. Righteous BBQ and Aldea Coffee. Did a beer flight of 8 beers and everything was so good. Lots of depth and flavor. Would recommend: wheezin the juice, sap on tap, russian stout, pineapple grindage, and the cloudy with chance of hops. I was super disappointed they were out of the white chocolate blonde. I saw a lot of people walk out with the Crop Duster but I didn't get to try it. Overall great spot and I would definitely return next time I'm in town. Price was good at avg per beer for the flight. 4 pk specialty beers $20, 6 pks I think were $12ish. read more

This was a cool little place - seemed like a new taproom, and brewing is obviously done offsite. They do have a small kitchen here, with good sounding food, but we only drank. The beer was decent, and the staff was REALLY friendly and great. I would recommend stopping in here for a brew. read more

Beautiful and fun brewery in downtown Grand Haven. I have been here a few times and I fell in love with the Imperial Brown Ale they had. I sometimes make the trip up to get a growler and take that home with me. I have also had the white chocolate lager as well and that was alright. I know that some people have really taken a liking to that one and though I love lagers I have found better ones out there. As for food, I wouldn't say they have a full menu but they have a great selection of bar food appetizers. The nachos in particular are terrific. Loaded with all sorts of great toppings. I'd recommend those if you looking for something from the kitchen. read more

We really like this place. It's more of a traditional pub than Odd Side (now that they bouged it up a bit), so expect wood, exposed brick, and a really loud environment even when it's not busy. Beers are solid, and when we visited they had 3 really good DIPAs on tap and very nice Imperial Rye. BBQ offerings look great but we haven't sampled them yet. A good, relaxed, truly local spot that obviously draws some tourists as well. read more

The chicken wings were inedible. They were dried out and tasted bad. The pulled chicken was ok. The beer was nothing special, except for the peanut butter beer, which was good. Staff was unfriendly and we could not find a manager to which we could complain about the terrible wings. They were literally the worst wings we have ever had. I would not return as the food was seriously subpar and the bartender we ordered from was rude. Very disappointing and certainly will never return to this place. read more

This is a pretty small brewery but there is an upstairs area with more seating. The main floor has a stage, coffee bar, bbq counter and the main bar. The second floor features an art gallery and studio and is accessible with an elevator. The beer was good and overall the atmosphere was fun. I recommend the crop duster IPA, wheezing the juice hazy IPA, or nutter your business stout! read more

5 stars all around! I absolutely loved the vibe here! There was live music and two levels. Up top is where we sat and it felt like was were at home with friends! They had a chest full of games, which was perfect for hanging out with the gang. I loved their cucumber melon cider It was crisp and refreshing and reminds me of summer! I came here when I was in town for a work related event. I was with some co-workers on a Friday night looking to eat some ribs from Righteous BBQ and listen to live music. Since Righteous BBQ did not serve drinks, I walked over to Grand Armory Brewery and I purchased a beer from this brunette lady behind the bar. It was $4.00 and I paid with my credit card and I gave her a dollar cash for her tip. Beer was okay, I didn't get a buzz, but the ribs from Righteous BBQ was really good. When I got home from my trip I looked at my credit card statement and looked at the charges from Grand Armory Brewery and I see that this Witch who sold me my beer gave herself a 100% tip. They charged me $8.00 instead of $4.00. To be certain that my memory wasn't playing tricks on me, I dug up my receipt and sure enough the beer I purchased was $4.00. Wow! I guess the dollar cash tip that I actually gave the bartender was not good enough. She must have figured out that I was from out of town and that made me fair game for her to falsify my credit card charges so she can get more money for her tip. First off all, her customer service sucked, I was the only person in line and I had to wait until she got done wiping the bar and whatever chore she was doing and then not until there was 2 other guys behind me in line, when she finally asked me what I wanted. This witch probably said to herself that I would be miles away before I found out about her scam. Far enough away that she wouldn't have to deal with me confronting her about her stealing my money. I am from Chicago and we have a lot of scumbags over here. I guess there are scumbags in Grand Haven too like this Hipster Witch. This is no way to treat an out of town guest. This situation left a bad taste in my mouth about Grand Haven. I am sure I am not the first person that this Bartender Hipster Witch has ripped off and I probably won't be the last either... ADVICE TO ALL... Keep your credit card receipts. Verify that the credit card charges that these people charge you matches the charges on your receipts. Consumers Beware! read more

Grand Armory is making some of the best beer in Michigan. Seriously. Their Cloudy with a Chance of Hops DIPA is incredible. Every other beer I've had is delicious, even the darker stouts that I don't normally drink are undeniably solid, tasty beers. The actual location is a little odd. The downstairs is where you want to be, near or at the bar. The upstairs reminds me of a strange teenage hangout and really not the best ambiance. Come here, drink amazing beer or buy their stuff and take it home. So good. read more

Full disclosure: I don't drink beer. So read another review for that aspect of Grand Armory Brewing. I can attest to the atmosphere and service. It's top, top, top notch. I spend a lot of time in the Armory space doing work or socializing as one of the regulars. I personally witness the great customer service offered by the Grand Armory Brewing team. I've had the root beer (or a root beer float) and almost every time I have it, others at the bar want one too. It's brewed by the Grand Armory folks. They sell their beer not only from the tap but also in cans or in growlers. I see plenty of people coming in to get their favorite beer. The space offers bar seating as well as several high-top tables and picnic-table type seating. The shared space (with a BBQ joint and Aldea Coffee) frequently offers live music. It's the place to enjoy music downtown in Grand Haven. These folks treat me like their best customer, but that's the same way they treat everyone they deal with. I highly recommend checking them out for their selection of beer and to soak in the atmosphere. read more
