As the saying goes: times heals all. Granted it's just a dive bar but it was a much better experience than the last visit. The bartenders were friendly and attentive and the overall vibe was relaxed. Drink prices were reasonable. Keno still proved to be a waste of money but that's not the bars fault, lol.

Some folks might call this a dive Barr because how dark this joint is. They have a jukebox, pool table and a great dive Barr feel. I love the art on the ceiling. Drinks are reasonably priced served quickly. They have standard bar snacks like pop corn, real jerky and chips. The place feels right. If you're not comfortable in a dive bar type joint, this may not be for you. We loved the place.

This place was a lot of fun. The drink prices are great, the bartenders were friendly and provided quick service and the live music was GREAT! I highly recommend checking out James Reeser and the Back Seat Drivers if you get the chance. We came into Saugatuck to celebrate our anniversary and happened upon The Sand Bar and were not disappointed. While it may not be the most modern, classy joint in town...the patrons and workers all seem to genuinely enjoy themselves which creates the perfect atmosphere to have fun in. There is a pool table in the back, TVs for those that want to watch them, a jukebox full of Blues, a great drink selection and a local cab company that will make sure you get back home safely. The only downside is they take ONLY CASH....but that's not a big deal with ATMs nearby.

    An oasis.

Indoor dining in a mostly empty restaurant (outside was a little livelier, but we had reasons to seat out party inside). First order or drinks went well, it took a really long time to place a food order (thankful for the appetizer we put in!). After that, it was practically like the servers didn't exist any longer. When the food arrived, SOME of us were asked if we wanted refills, but not all? Some people got water refills but not all? Very strange. Meals were a mixed bag, with some additions or subtractions missed, many things not at a temp that inspired confidence in their freshness, and soggy center to pizzas. We didn't ask for alterations for most errors because things already took so long so we just tucked into the eats. We did, however, ask for the add-ons that were NOT present to be removed from the final bill (them being present suggests an actual error in preparation/service, not the order being taken....) Even with a great location/view, The Butler will go under with this type of dining experience. Ultimate bottom line: Like other reviews, consistency in all phases of this business needs work.

I've been here with small groups and large groups and we have always received great service. The menu states that since everything is made from scratch it might take up to an hour to get your food but it has never taken that long when we have been here. On this visit we started with two orders of nachos, requesting no meat in one order. The nachos here are seriously my favorite that I have ever had from any restaurant. Ingredients include roasted corn, black beans,, red onion, cheese, lettuce, pico, cilantro, and lime chipotle cream, and choice of meats. We ordered ground beef on one order and the other meatless. After the nachos we ordered a Fun Guy pizza and a burrito, which was huge! We all shared the pizza and burrito. We enjoyed goat cheese cheesecake for dessert. It was wonderful. We arrived at 9:45pm and were seated at a cute, cozy little couch and table setup. The hostess handed us both a drink menu and a separate food menu. Looking through it, I was thrilled to see quite an expansive cocktail list broken down by "chapters," as well as several small snack options clearly marked with a gluten-free (GF) label. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit disappointing once we tried to order. Despite the online hours stating the venue closes at 11:00pm our server informed us that the kitchen was already closed. There is no indication online of what time the kitchen closes, and it was incredibly disappointing to be handed a dedicated food menu by the hostess only to be told moments later we couldn't order anything. When I asked our server for recommendations and which specific cocktails were gluten-free, she mentioned she was new and had to go check. She returned about 10 minutes later, only to give a vague answer that "most drinks were gluten-free" without offering an actual recommendation or helpful suggestion. My husband ended up ordering a non-alcoholic drink, but between the kitchen confusion and the lackluster service, I opted not to get anything at all. It's a cool venue with a lot of potential, but they should put their kitchen hours online and better train their staff on the menu.

It's next door to their sister restaurant, Lovejoy. Walking in, the space is very dimly lit with a nice bar and some cozy seating. We were directed to a couch and a couple of low chairs. The menu is organized into different "chapters," with different themes for each chapter. They also have beer, wine, spirit-free options, and a spirits list. I wanted something fun, so I chose the Don the Beachcomber, a rum-based tiki cocktail that is flamed tableside. My friend got the Obstacle No. 1, which is a bourbon drink that they smoke at your table. Very theatrical and fun! These drinks were $20+ so pretty pricey, but worth it for a fun occasion. We had a nice time just relaxing and catching up. I would say it's not a great spot for a large group, but definitely a fun date night place. They have a small food menu of offerings from the restaurant next door that sounded tasty. We had just eaten but I'd be interested in their small plates. I'm so glad I got to experience this place.
