    The marquee
    Jayray F.

Located in a former theater so easy to find on the main drag just look for the marquee. Food is spot on from the gumbo to the nutty salad with the apple pecan vinaigrette and the breasted chicken with potato wedges and coleslaw. All of us ate it all. Servers were friendly and available as needed but not intrusive. Fun place clearly appreciated by locals and tourists alike. You can sit at the bar, high tops, low tables or even weather permitting outside.

We originally popped into Phil's Bar & Grille just for a quick drink before our dinner reservation... and yeah, that plan didn't stand a chance. We grabbed seats at the bar, and the place was full of locals which honestly tells you everything you need to know right there. And not just full... but full of the nicest people. The kind of place where you feel like you belong within five minutes. Now let's talk about Jimmy... WOW. Absolute rockstar behind the bar. Not only was he making amazing drinks, but he was also doing his best to convince us to ditch our dinner reservations and stay honestly, he almost had us The drinks were so good we ended up coming back later that night for dessert... because clearly we weren't done yet. But here's the part that got me I casually mentioned it was my birthday weekend, nothing big... and the NEXT DAY while we were walking around downtown, we look up and there's my name on the marquee wishing me a happy birthday. Like... who does that?! That kind of thoughtfulness is just next level and completely made my day. Phil's isn't just a bar--it's a whole experience. Every time we walked by, it was packed, and after being there... I get it. They're doing a lot right. If you're anywhere near Saugatuck--GO. Sit at the bar, order a drink, and just enjoy it. You'll probably end up staying longer than you planned too

Don't let the name fool you. This is NOT your father's bar and grill! The place is dark, but not too dark. It's a very cozy place with red vinyl booths. The staff are outstanding. Very knowledgeable about the menu, and very friendly. The food is creative and quite tasty. We shared the Portobello mushroom fries - they were perfectly cooked and JUICY! I suggest not using the mustard sauce on them. It overwhelms the natural seasoning. We also shared the Nutty Salad - do yourself a favor and go with the recommended apple walnut dressing that was made specifically for this salad. You can't go wrong! They have a handful of beers on tap and a full bar. Check this place out if you are in the area.

This is a place for casual gatherings, couples, and families. The food is well prepared and delicious. Service is quick but there are no reservations taken so you may have a long wait for a table during busy meal times. We loved our meals! A fun surprise at the end was the waitress bringing to each of us a small cup of animal crackers as an after dinner treat.

Food was so tasty, we were very full. The service was good. Interior is bar like, good amount of space. We had Chicken and Shrimp Gumbo and it was excellent. Not too spicy. We had Goat Cheese Croquettes. They were amazing! Super filling for an appetizer really, really enjoyed. We also had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The potato wedges were crispy and the sandwich was very stacked. We really enjoyed this restaurant.

Another great option in the area!! Mix of locals and visitors. Old style pub with bar tables and lower tables near the back. There is outdoor seating. Has nice vibes and good music playing. We had a ham and cheese sandwich with a very yummy bun, chicken sandwich had great flavors, salad with avocado and garlic vinaigrette topped with steak that was nicely seasoned, and fish tacos with flakey fish and slaw. We had an order of homemade salsa and tortillas- those were a nice treat and great texture. Service was fine. It was busy but they managed and we felt like the food came out in a timely fashion. All of it was very affordable for four meals and where can you get $3 PBR on tap! Recommended!

So salty it hurt going down. I told the waitress it was salty and her reaction was "yes" .

We sat at the bar - good tip if it is packed since the bar is first come first served! The bartender was very friendly and the food came out quickly. The perch sandwich was very tasty and the animal crackers were a fun treat! Extensive drink menu too. We recommend it!

I was in contact with Amy for a few months leading up to the date, and she was so easy and pleasant to work with. Hardest working woman in the business! Noah and Carolina were our bartenders and they were fantastic! They helped keep our party private and were super fun to work with. Carrie was on food duty and she was so thoughtful to box up the leftovers for guests to take home easily. Michigan summer weather can be tricky but we absolutely lucked out. The venue right next to the boats and docks was so lovely; we could not have asked for a better summer evening. Overall, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Coral Gables for your next party! (Also: there were several bachelor/bachelorette parties happening in the various bars at Coral Gables, which made our post- dinner clubbing upstairs so much fun!)

I was overly impressed with the fish and chips as the fish had a great batter and was very crunchy and the fish was moist. I think they close upstairs around 7 or 8 but try to get a spot there you won't regret it.

Don't fret, they have umbrellas on every outdoor table in case you're worried about being exposed to too much elements! Our waitress came over quickly and took our drink orders. I had the strawberry summer spritz which was a little more tart than I expected but it was a good summer cocktail. My husband had some sort of pear smash which he said tasted like pears and was good. I had the new item on their menu which was the lobster and shrimp roll and instead of the chips, I ordered some truffle fries ($3) with my meal. My husband had the chicken sandwich and subbed the chips with fries ($2). Outside of all the extra charges, I think this place was pretty great. Our food were both excellent and our drinks were tasty. We ordered another round after. I am just having a hard time understanding why the fries carried an extra charge. I get the truffle fries being extra but regular fries substitution seemed a bit much but okay. This is our second time being here. I was obviously not phased regarding the extra charges from a few years back but I honestly cannot remember if this was the case or not. Anyway, great food, good drinks, and a waterfront scene. You cannot beat that!

I was offered a seat at the bar, which had chairs that I found uncomfortable and a two inch molding that meant plates couldn't be pulled close to eat over. I wanted a sit down dinner with a book. I did not get that. My halloumi salad was bland. The beans were undercooked -- hard, not starchy gone creamy, definitely not braised -- and under seasoned. The whole thing needed salt. The halloumi itself was good, very crispy. The Meyer lemon soda was good. I expected more from a chef with this pedigree. Apparently there were specials -- I heard the bartender mention them to the couple next to me as I was paying my check. That was the first I'd heard of them. 3% CC fee. I won't be back.

Didn't finish it on account of taste and texture; it just wasn't good and that was the general consensus amongst my entire group. One person opted for the Marguerita pizza and the amount of uncooked flour left on the platter and bottom of the pie was absurd. Flat out that's all he could taste was dust. They also were out of at least two or three tap beers on their list with no replacement and limited options. At least the server was nice and helpful but apparently if you have a larger group than 5 or 6 they cannot split bills. Ours did but we had to "keep it on the lowdown lest her manager hear" that that was allowed by this particular server. There aren't too many choice options in such a small town so I guess take the good with the bad or just go hit the hot dog food truck on the roadside instead.

Pumpernickels is a vibe and a great place to sit a spell in the summer here in Saugatuck, but when it comes to the food, while it matches the vibe and is presented beautifully, tastes very average and is not value oriented aka on the spendy side. We came in as a party of 6 around 2pm and quickly got a table outside. Our server was sweet and kind, and quick to take our orders, but once that happened we really didn't see her all that much, which was frustrating. On top of that, the main dish on the menu that brought us here (goat cheese dip) was sold out after lunch, which was a major disappointment. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, chicken sandwich (grilled), rueben, green bean salad, and a kids mac n cheese and chicken tenders. The best bites were the eggs and the green bean salad, but the portion on the salad was so petite that it was barely a meal for the person who ordered it. The chicken was dry and the sandwich incredibly generic. The reuben didn't have enough of the house corned beef and was also dry. Now I could be wrong here, but the fried green tomatoes seemed like a frozen product. with a uniform breading and cook, but the chicken fingers definitely were and the mac n cheese was quite literally Kraft. I'm going to hope that this is a hot dinner or brunch spot, because what we had was pretty disappointing. I was torn between here and the spot around the corner that featured a lot of local ingredients in a more casual setting, but chose this because it seemed to be more culinarily focused, and I was let down.
