My husband and I arrive just before 5 PM on a beautiful early summer evening. Some employees were setting up the outdoor tables and chairs on the sidewalk. At 5 PM when they started seating people my husband went in to get a table while I stayed out front with our yellow Lab. My husband asked the older female host for a table outside for two+ dog. The host got two menus and was going to seat us. At that moment a younger female host came up and said they are not seating people out side at the tables they just set up. We stopped in on a beautiful June evening, hoping to enjoy a drink and maybe a bite outside. I was looking forward to trying the small plates I'd read about. The weather was perfect, upper 70s, calm, and inviting, and the 4 tables on the sidewalk were empty. We sat down and waited, but after several minutes with no acknowledgment, it became clear we might need to check in. My partner went inside and spoke with two hostesses, asking about sitting outside. She was told there were no tables available, despite the sidewalk being visibly empty. When she pointed that out, the explanation shifted to "we aren't serving outside." That would have been perfectly fine if it had been communicated clearly from the start. After that interaction, things only became more uncomfortable. She got me and we approached the hostess stand together (I was with my hearing dog), and despite there being no line, we were left standing there while both hostesses focused on their iPad and did not acknowledge us for an extended period. It felt dismissive and unnecessarily awkward. Eventually, we asked to be seated at the bar, which was mostly empty, and were waved over to find seats ourselves. The bartender was lovely, but by that point, the experience had already left a sour impression. As we sat there, we watched others being greeted warmly and with ease, which made the contrast difficult to ignore. We ultimately decided not to stay for food. We couldn't make sense of the difference in treatment. Wasit was my trained service dog? The fact that we are a same-sex couple? Or something else entirely? Whatever it was the experience left us feeling unwelcome. The issue wasn't that the outdoor area was closed; it was the dismissive service that followed. A little attentiveness and courtesy would have made a big difference. No one wants to feel unwelcome while on vacation. read more

Haven't been to Everyday People in about 2 years. Came here with some friends for Thursday night burger night. Burger was $22 and included fries and a drink. Not a bad deal. Cocktail and fries were outstanding. Really good Mezcal drink. And the fries were really well seasoned. Everyone in our party of 4 got the burger, and sadly it was not the star of the show. Unless it's a smash burger I always worry when they don't ask how you want it cooked. This burger was beyond well done, super dry, and lacked flavor. Total disappointment. It was difficult to eat, but because everyone elses was cooked this way what was the point of complaining. On the positive side our server was totally awesome. Even though the burger sucked, he got an outstanding tip. We'll try coming again but I think I'll skip the burger. read more

Happened in on a Thursday night - burger night - which draws a big crowd. Chose to sit at the bar for Wdrinks and dinner. Had an issue with the red wine... first, too few choices. Second, the first pour - the Cote de Rhône - was fully turned to vinegar - sent it back. The second choice was the house red blend and it was also on its way to turning - had to send it back. Third choice was an ok red blend. The Bartender was not pleased as a result and copped an attitude the rest of our visit through dinner. First meal choice was The Asian Salad. It was dressing with some greens added in. Tasty but was looking for a salad not soup. The Tomato Boursin soup ordered to complement the salad was passable. The salmon dinner - modified for food allergies - was excellent. Ambiance was delightful. read more

Waitstaff is very personable and fun. Food is a touch pricey vs quality and portion, but most everything is delicious. Pass on the pasta, go for seafood type dishes, and you'll be quite happy. Cocktails are well above average in design and taste! read more

Had an amazing 30th anniversary dinner here and Michael was our server. Super attentive, knowledgeable and funny! I ordered the Chilean sea bass and it was the best I ever had. Last night 2 of my best friends and I went there for dinner. The place was crowded for a Thursday which was great. We waited for 30 minutes which was fine. Once we got to our table we looked at the menu. Thursday was burger night, so of course we had to get one. My friend is a vegetarian and he asked if they had an impossible burger which they did. For drinks, I had the French Pear. Made with Grey Goose Vodka, St Germaine, Sparkling Brut, and Sugared Rim. My other friend had a Grey Goose Lemon Drop and the other friend had a Dirty Martini. We all had the burgers and fries. Also, the burger and fries come with a glass of Bordeaux Wine for an extra $5. Our server was nice and friendly. And of course, we had dessert. An Apple and Cherry Crisp with whipped cream. The dessert was warm and tasty. Matt the owner came out to talk to us and we told him how great our meal was. I was staying in south haven with my sisters and I'm so glad we visited the cute little town of Douglas. We loved this restaurant. We sat outside and had some amazing appetizers. The owner was friendly and came out to check on us. He recommended food and beer. The tuna app was amazing. We loved the pizza!! I'm not a lamb person but the lamb meatballs were incredible. My husband and I came back to Saugatuck a year later & had to return here for dinner. I forgot to take pictures but the lamb meatballs with pita and feta as an appetizer was excellent. We tried the tomato Boursin soup and we both had the filet saltimbocca. All I can say is WOW. It was an amazing explosion of flavor. We LOVE Everyday People Cafe. We stop by there every time we are in the Saugy/Douglas area. They have the best wasabi encrusted Ahi tuna. It's so good that we order a minimum of three orders each time we're there. The sauce served with it is so delicious. Their filet & Chilean sea bass are wonderful as well. The lamb meatballs are also a must try. Great staff too! We also had a fantastic creme brûlée dessert. It was one of the best desserts I have ever had! read more

I want to start off by saying that we (my delightful granddaughter and wonderfully aged mother) only came to this "establishment" because it was the closest parking spot to Maro's which is 1.3 miles away! By the time we got out of the car we were just so defeated and hungry we waltzed our pants inside the Everyday People Cafe. Now, you know me folks, I'm a down-to-earth mom of three kids and a two dogs (Jackie and Jason pictured below) and let me tell you, this place was just too rich for my blood. I gotta say, there's a time and place for "fine dining" but to call a place "Everyday People Cafe" sets up an expectation that is met only with disappointment. The prices at Everyday People Cafe are probably only acceptable for the Everyday People who park their private yacht out front. If an average of $40 or $50 per person sounds like a real fun time I would highly recommend this place. Unfortunately that is not me, and I was more than happy to just order something small and just leave knowing it was a fine place but just wasn't for me. But good lord my heart stopped when I saw that bill.. they had charged us for the bread which was offered by our server with zero disclaimer that it wasn't free? Now Lord forgive my language, but that is damn illegal. My final thoughts are as follows: if you are an everyday person as listed on the sign, stay away or at least decline the bread. Once a year my partner and I visit the area and we always have dinner at EDP one night. Friday was the night this year. We were seated right away much to my surprise and pleasure. This year we tried the Lamb Meatballs (my selection) and Crab Cake (partner's selection) as our starters. My partner loved the meatballs but felt the crab cake a little lacking in flavor. I on the other hand thought the crab cake was quite good though a bit salty for me while the meatballs could have had more flavor LOL. I've honestly never known anyone who ordered crab cake anywhere inland who said they were awesome so I don't hold that against EDP. We each ordered the Tuna Two Ways. As the menu appears to change frequently I'll explain that the first way was sesame crusted tuna, quite thick pieces, very juicy and fresh. I loved the sesame tuna while my partner felt it was good but not great. The second way was Tuna Poke, which we both loved. The Tuna Poke was too salty for me (but that's to be expected as it's marinated in soy sauce and I eat a low sodium diet almost exclusively). My partner was happy to finish my serving of the Tuna Poke, it was awesome. The entre included a scallion basmati rice with mushrooms and red pepper slaw which was a fabulous paring with the tuna. read more

We had such a great experience at dinner! Terrific wine list. Everyone raves about the corn and crab bisque. I had the Cesar salad to start-the Asian twist was fantastic! Our Group ordered the Tenderloin, the Orchette, and the Risotto and shrimp. All were so amazing! We finished dinner with dessert-One of each for all to share. Crème Brûlée Napoleon-so interesting and delicious. Chocolate Pot au crem-what's not To like? And Key Lime pie is always right. Save room for dessert. My only complaint-charging for a dinner roll. The Leeks Tart got me curious and did not disappoint! It was served chilled, which l did not expect, but was surprisingly delicious! Came with Chèvre, the aforementioned Leeks Tart, spiced almonds (not hot spice, but very uniquely seasoned), ground mustard and apricot chutney, and crostinis and lettuce leaves.
