Best Rueben I've had in awhile, also all you can eat walleye on Friday is great. Exceptional side salad.

I loved this place. They had a nice menu that's perfect for lunch. First off their spicy fried pickles were great. They had this like salad I saw someone eating and it looked like something out of a magazine. I ended up ordering the Rueben with a side salad. The side salad was mixed greens with tomatoes, onion and carrots. It was delicious and the Reuben was awesome. My boyfriend got the fried walleye and was also very pleased with his meal. We both picked other things to try another visit. This is very much a chill casual dining experience but their food is 10/10! The inside is very much a bar feeling but the food is like fancy. This place has impressed me several times at this point, so I figured it's time to leave a review. They're chilly, while in season, is fantastic. They serve it until just after summer starts, and it's worth the trip just for that. Their monster burger is also spectacular! I split it with someone, and it was plenty. Stopped in here for a snack and was pleasantly surprised to find such an interesting menu. Tried the Guacamole Bites and the Hushpuppies. Both were delicious. I had a grouper taco special, which hit just right. My partner got the salmon burger, which he also gave a thumbs up. Quaint place, great food and speedy and nice service. Popped in on a Sunday afternoon and tour surprise had some really great grub. We started with the rainbow trout spread (a must try) and then I had the walleye and chips - absolutely phenomenal. My pops had the cod and the ladies had kale salads with chicken. I started with the cheese curds which come with an amazing wasabi aioli. The cheese curds themselves could come out of the fryer a minute earlier. Another nice place to eat in South Haven. I don't think many people will try this place as it is not one of popular places. However, it is a must try. 527 is located at the start of Phoenix Street. It's a small place but clean, comfortable and has good food. The host and waitress were outstanding and friendly. They took our cell phone number and called us when our table was ready. My wife ordered the fish basket. She loved the fresh fish taste and crispy breading. It wasn't too thick or greasy. The fries were very good - nice and crisp with a slight seasoning. I ordered the BLT which was loaded with very tasty bacon. You won't get this much bacon on a BLT anywhere. The bacon had a fantastic flavor and crisp. The onion rings were very good as they had a nice large piece of onion. The breading was slightly thick and mildly greasy. The hush puppies were outstanding as well. read more

While in South Haven for vacation, I saw that Kitchen 527 had good reviews, so we decided to give it a try. I was a little nervous at first, because the floors were sticky and it sort of looked like a dive bar inside. But we were seated quickly and our waitress was so friendly, and before I knew it, she was bringing out our drinks and appetizer: spicy fried pickles. They were SO good! We then ordered our meals: breaded walleye with hush puppies, fried chicken, potato salad, and onion rings. Everything was delicious. We used to love Kitchen 527 until the present owner took over. Our first experience with the present owner was bad, but I figured we should give it another try. Our family of six had dinner there last night, and that will be the last time we frequent this restaurant. My husband ordered a dinner - size salad; however it was so small, he had to come home and have a snack. The owner came over to ask how we liked the meal, and when we complained about the size of a dinner salad, he acted like he could care less, saying that no one ever complained about the size before. It was in a soup bowl, hardly enough for a man's dinner. He actually was less sympathtic to our feelings. In addition, I asked for a burger wrapped in lettuce because I am gluten-free. I Yelped "lunch" in South Haven and this place came up. Figured it was worth a shot. Wd were seated immediately. We only ordered appetizers when we saw they have Fried Green Tomatoes on the menu. They were delicious! I heard a lot of other parties ordering them as well. Asked the server if people come here specifically for the Fried Green Tomatoes and she said they are one of the most requested appetizers. I'd believe it Adam liked the pretzel bites (also one of the most requested appetizers). We also ordered the cheese curds and the fried mushrooms. Cheese Curds were great. Put our name down at 6:20pm and we're told 1 hour, walk back in at 7:05 to see and they said it would still be another hour. We checked back in at 7:45 and were told 40 minute. We thought to lunch at 527 because our daughter loves this restaurant in South Haven as they offer a deep-fried grilled cheese sandwich. We were encouraged to stop there after discovering adequate parking behind the store with a back entrance handy. (SoHa very busy during tourist season.) We found the restaurant very poorly lit and somewhat rundown, but, unperturbed, we ordered Cobb salad with chicken and Sliced, smoked pork shoulder on a pretzel bun with fries. The Cobb salad was declared pretty tasty, but the pork sandwich was off with poor bread to meat ratio, anemic pickles and stale, canned onion rings. (For leftover lovers, I saved half the sandwich that I later repurposed the pork for a modified BLT that was better.) The fries were pretty good as they were hot and crisp. read more

every summer when we visit South Haven we get take out from Kitchen 527. They have a sweet potato, black bean burger that is amazing!

Came over here because Clementines was packed. It seemed like a nice little bar. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was how filthy it was. So gross!!! We waited 20 minutes to be offered anything. The waitress was definitely under the influence!!! She was a shorter blonde and couldn't even keep her eyes open. She was wobbling from table to table and seemed annoyed at us. Not a good look. The food was mediocre. I went to the bathroom and there was explosive diarrhea all over the toilet. This is a bar that sells food! In that context, this was pretty good. However the bar is mostly rail liquor so maybe pub is a better description? You're not going to find much fancier than this in south haven though so beware if you're looking for a "white table cloth" experience. The menu is predominantly fried food. With that being said, the cod, onion rings and fried chicken were pretty good. If I come back, that's going to be my exact order. The cod was fresh, the batter was fluffy and had a great crunch. The onion rings were your standard flour batter and came a little over-done which I really liked. The chicken was breaded in a cornmeal batter (I think) - really crispy! All wonderful. They also had blue gill which was fried as well, and although I love fresh blue Gill, the batter was a bit overpowering and you missed out on the flavor of the fish. They have a few non-fried options which were a salmon burger and the regular burgers. Ambivalent reviews from the party. The side salad was pretty dismal.. but again think "bar that sells food" and you'd expect that. Overall, one of the better spots in SoHa. I'd love if they served a few more non-fried options though. read more
